Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Palette
So, if I had the personality for YouTube, I would totally utilize it because I know seeing is better than believing. I recently purchased the Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Palette, the 35T Morphe Palette, and the Eye Slay Brush Set from Ulta by Morphe.
I’m sure you have gathered that this post is about the Jaclyn Hill Palette.
So, before I bought this palette, I’d actually never watched a Jaclyn Hill tutorial. I typically watch a lot of quick Instagram videos or anything by Jeffree Star. The main reason I bought the palette in the first place is because of a close friend’s sister. It’s her favorite non-drugstore brand makeup piece, so I thought I would give it a whirl.
And come on, the shade range is incredible.
This palette has been pretty consistent when it comes to price. It’s $38 USD, which is $15 more than an average Morphe Palette (not including tax). I’m a person that is heavily into drugstore makeup because of the price factor so when I say that this palette is worth it, trust me.
I’ve bought almost every palette, except for maybe three, by Maybelline in their 12-shade series. On average, I spend about $10 a palette if I buy from Walmart. At Ulta, they’re around $14. Using the Walmart price, I am paying $.83 a shadow. The Jaclyn Hill Palette comes with 35 high-quality shades. Those shadows roughly cost $.92 a piece. At the end of the day, it’s still affordable for what you are getting.
I absolutely love the product itself. It was something I was excited to buy after playing with the tester in the store the week before. I told myself that I wouldn’t buy another palette for the rest of the summer, but that was a false promise. The shimmers are really creamy and smooth and the mattes blend very well. I will say that I wish there was more of a shade range when it came to the matte colors because I don’t like putting shimmers in my crease.
Jaclyn Hill’s formula for her shimmer shadows felt different from anything else I’ve ever tested or used. I think they work better when I use my fingers rather than a brush when I’m trying to go for a super pigmented look on my lid. If you’re a person that wants to use a brush, my suggestion would be to dampen it first.
Overall, I think this is a wonderful product. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone that likes to try different looks. I only have two issues with it. The first being that it’s difficult to pick up shimmer shades with a dry brush. I felt like I was always having to come back for more product with very little progress. That’s really a solvable issue, but it’s still disheartening that first time you go to apply and there’s barely anything on your eye.
My second issue involves the shade range of the matte colors. I felt like there were tones of light brown colors that all looked similar. I don’t mind it because I can build with those shades, but it does make it a little difficult when trying to build your crease for the greens, blues, and purples.
I know that I mentioned the Morphe Brushes at the beginning of this post, but they were not the brushes I used when I got this palette. I used a fluffy blending brush from a brand my grandmother found on Groupon, as well as a flat EcoTools brush. The most expensive brush I used was from Glamour Dolls and it was a blending brush under the Romantic Rose set. Honestly, it’s the best brush I’ve ever used and it’s only $4.99. I was gifted mine from my mother after she received it in an Ipsy Bag.
And since I will be writing a lot of sorority-based articles, I thought I would add how I feel about it on that level. Honestly, it’s a beautiful palette and it’ll look great for semi-formal, formal, and other events but it’s not an overtly natural palette. If you’re looking for something that is natural for ritual, or things that you have to do a more low-key look for, there are other palettes by Morphe that will do the job at a cheaper price.
Of course, that’s just my opinion. Nine times out of ten, it wouldn't be what I reached for in those situations. But outside of sorority events, it'll be one of my favorites. I'll be rocking it on dates, in class, etc.
Have an opinion?
