It's ok to use #astrology for fun or to feel culturally connected. My wife does this & we lovingly joke about it. But it's different to use it for making life decisions, or influencing other people-- especially if you gain from it. Aside from having no #logical explanation, or its ambiguous language, astrology has failed testing. One example comes from the #skeptic #JamesRandi. Randi gave a group of people a horoscope & then asked them to rate its accuracy (most were high: a 4/5 or 5/5). They then switched papers and found they all had the same version. A more rigorous study comes from a Manchester research team. They analyzed the #zodiac pairing of 10 million marriages using UK census data. As they said: "If there is even the smallest tendency for Virgos to fancy Capricorns, or for Libras to like Leos, then we should see it in the marriage statistics. "When you have a population of ten million couples, then even if only one pair in a thousand is influenced by the stars, you'd have ten thousand more couples than expected with certain combinations of signs. "There's no such evidence, though: the numbers are just what we'd predict based on chance." In 1985, a well-designed double-blind study was published in Nature--a prestigious journal of #science. Many astrologers claimed that previous tests were biased & based on misconceptions. To avoid bias, 30 of the best astrologers (identified by their peers) helped design the study. They agreed to assess 116 natal charts of "clients." For each chart, they were given 3 anonymous personality profiles. One profile belonged to the client, but the other 2 were random. Neither the administer no astrologer knew which profile was which. All the profiles came from real people using a scientifically accepted personality questionnaire. The astrologers then tried selecting the best profile that matched each chart. Despite being the best in the field, & agreeing o the study was fair, they only guessed correctly 1/3 times--the same as chance.
