Vespa mandarinia aka the Asian giant hornet; and by its less affectionate Internet moniker “murder hornet”, is the world’s largest species of hornet! Native to temperate and tropical East Asia, South Asia, Mainland Southeast Asia, and parts of the Russian Far East. First two photos courtesy of @aaiZveGu1X7nWwX (Twitter) who has a wide variety of photos and video clips of giant hornets he tends after. When isolated from a hive body and handled with care they aren’t the monster most make them out to be. All hornets are wasps, but not all wasps are hornets. In the U.S., we have no native hornets. Our main hornet is the European hornet which was introduced into New York in 1840. It looks like a large yellowjacket—about ¾ to 1½ inches long—and nests in the ground or in hollow trees.

Can you tell us more about Blizzardwing and Holly's toxic marriage?
Sure! I'll leave the meta reasons for why I feel so strongly about the changes out of this, and just focus on the new HollyBlizzard dynamic
There is brief periods of peace in their mateship, but they're increasingly rare.
Sometimes it seems like Hollyflower is looking for reasons to take out her frustration on Blizzardwing. You can 'feel' it coming.
The kits quickly learn when things are about to get loud, and begin walking on eggshells around their parents
But, there's always a spark that sets off chaos.
Blackkit often feels like it's his fault. He'll do something 'wrong', and then Blizzard is paying for it, and as a result Blizzard makes him pay for it back.
Black dreads Blizzard's visits to the nursery, he wishes they would just stay apart because he can "handle" Holly on her own.
Flintfang and Fernshade were in the older litter, with Blackfoot slightly younger. About one year apart or so.
They were always huge reliefs to him. They would often show up just in time and whisk him away to do fun activities. They showed him how to hunt frogs. They taught him how to skin a vole. Blizzard and Holly would have left him without basic skills otherwise.
But at the end of the day, he would have to go back to the nursery.
Flint and Fern know what it's like growing up in that kind of environment, but at least they had each other you know?
Never, NEVER suggest to Holly or Blizzard that maybe they shouldn't be together. They will unite just to turn their anger onto you.
Blizzard: "She's my mate. I made a promise that I'd always be there for her. You think I'd just play a game with her love? Are you trying to tell me I'm not loyal?"
Holly: "Yeah sure we fight, but that's because I love him. I've never loved anyone else and I never will, how dare you try to drive a wedge between us!"
We're Drowning Together
Coming out of that environment, Blackfoot was a bit of a bully. He wanted to prove his worth to ShadowClan, and sometimes lashed out just to throw his weight around. He was a big boy that came out of the union of The Vicious Hollyflower and Son/Grandson-of-Snowtuft Blizzardwing, and that made a lot of people afraid of him.
That desperation, loneliness, and sadistic streak made him a favorite of the deputy Brokentail, who soon became Brokenstar. He wasn't his first deputy; but it was clear that Brokenstar was preparing him for the role by providing him lots and lots of opportunities for advancement at a young age.
But, I'm getting ahead of myself. The Holly/Blizzard dynamic has been OVERHAULED for BB.

Round 2, bracket A, poll 7
Propaganda for Lacenet: "Lacenet is so so good because of the sheer potential it has!!! They have a ridiculous amount of fanmade ship content considering they're from a game that isn't even out yet, partly because Silksong fans are just a little bit insane and also partly because what little we've been shown of them is too good to just simply ignore.
Hornet is the princess-protector of her shitty dad's forgotten kingdom, testing the strength of anyone who would try and end its stasis with her needle. Basically everyone Hornet loves is either dead or as good as dead, which is likely the reason for her stoic, closed-off attitude, serving as a way to mask her emotions for the difficult job she has to do, as well as an effective way to distance herself from others to prevent herself from getting hurt when they inevitably die. Unfortunately Hornet can't catch a break AT ALL because the game ends with someone she loves being torn away from her AGAIN and then she's kidnapped and whisked off to some random ass kingdom
Where she meets Lace!!!!! Who is her sadistic rival, taunting/flirting with Hornet as she tries to assassinate her. We don't know a lot about Lace besides her presumed importance in the narrative, playing a similar role to Hornet in the original game, as well as her sizable amounts of wedding subtext- from her second fight with Hornet taking place on a field of white roses to her literally wearing a Japanese wedding garment while dressed head to toe in white. It's also implied that she frees Hornet from her kidnappers at the start of the game, and that the reason she's trying to kill her is to protect her from any worse suffering she'd face later on in her journey, which has led a decent amount of people to theorize that Lace and Hornet could potentially end up allied together by the end of it
And if they DO end up allies then they would 100% be a power couple- they're already extremely strong alone, but TOGETHER they're two fucking unstoppable lesbian bug warriors, freeing Pharloom from its curse through force and also making out sloppy style along the way
Also Lace calls Hornet "delicious" the first time they meet and if that isn't gay then idk what is"
Propaganda for Shadowgast: "again, what's sexier than wizards NOTHING! they're wizards! they're war criminals! Essek shows affection by crushing assassin's that try to kill Caleb into tiny balls with magic and Caleb shows affection by throw Essek at the healers when he's polymorphed as a giant ape! forehead kisses! you were not born with venom in your veins! young man! there's SO MUCH"

Wasp Hornet Kingdom
Tumblr media
I felt uncomfortable with wasps in Bug fables...And I noticed that in Japan the word "wasp" generally refers to hornet!
The reason why I thought the "wasps" of bug fables were thin and cute was because the "wasps" familiar to us Japanese were Yellow hornet and Asian giant hornet.
Hornet Kingdom is what my friend uttered when he heard it. That's why I couldn't get images like this out of my head for the rest of the day.

I've seen that it's okay to throw weird ideas in here.
Imagine some of Baki's characters as insect-like creatures (spiders or mantises? Basically insects with females eating males) Male insects bring food to the female as an offering and a chance not to be eaten. I find it funny that Baki's insect-like characters, wanting to mate with the human reader, not knowing how human mating occurs, but they are afraid, and bring her lots of food. So that she gets full and they can fuck in peace.
Or another point to this, if the food offering wasn't there and they just fucked? Insect! character wakes up, in the arms of the reader, and frightened, waiting to be eaten. The character is greatly relieved and happy when he learns from the reader that he will not be eaten before or after sex
I love ‘weird’ ideas. Adore them. Live for them. ❤️🩷
But if they found out they could mate with human reader without the repercussions? Poor little human reader would never be left alone 😭
Also! Here’s what I think the Baki boys would be as Bugs:
Katou: Cockroach (duh)
Hanayama: Rose hair tarantula
Katsumi: Golden ringed dragonfly
Jack: Emperor scorpion
Baki: Jumping spider
Retsu: Orchid mantis
Sukune: Goliath bird eater tarantula
Suedou: Easter lubber grasshopper
Kureha: Rosy Maple moth
Kosho: Death’s head hawkmoth
Oliva: Stag beetle
Yujiro: Hercules beetle
Shibukawa: Bullet Ant
Kozue: Great purple emperor butterfly
Doppo: Japanese giant hornet

One of the most metal things I can think of is how the Japanese Honey Bees kill Giant Asian Hornet.
The worker bees form a defensive ball around the Hornet and through the combined heat of their body temperatures, cook the Hornet alive. Temperatures can reach upwards of 46 Celsius, enough to kill the Hornet.
Using the stinger will kill them, so instead of potentially losing their lives, they use this method to take care of those hornets.
Another reason is that Asian Hornet’s are basically tanks. Their skin is heavily armored and virtually immune to bee stings. Moreover, it has enormous mandibles. A single giant Hornet can kill 40 honey bees in less than a few minutes. And just a few can kill an entire hive, decapitate the queen, and steal the larva.

日本蜜蜂[Nihonmitsubachi] Apis cerana japonica
日本[Nihon] : Japan
蜜[Mitsu] : Honey, nectar
蜂[-bachi|Hachi] : Bee, wasp
It is a subspecies of 東洋蜜蜂[Tōyōmitsubachi](Apis cerana.) 東洋[Tōyō] means the East.
In Japan, there is also another type of bee called 西洋蜜蜂[Seiyōmitsubachi](Apis mellifera,) which was introduced during the Meiji period (1868-1912) because their herd is larger and they could collect more honey. 西洋[Seiyō] means the West.
Seiyōmitsubachi differs from Nihonmitsubachi in that it is slightly larger and its abdomen is partially indistinct stripes with orange tinged. And, they have no way to defend themselves when attacked by one of their natural enemies, 雀蜂[Suzumebachi](Japanese giant hornet,) but not Nihonmitsubachi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbMLzSMJ12U
茶の木[Chanoki] Camellia sinensis
茶[Cha] : Tea
の[No] : Of
木[Ki] : Tree
Its origin seems to be around southwestern China. It is estimated to have been introduced from China in the early Heian period(794-1185.) The custom of drinking tea and the tea ceremony became widespread after the Kamakura period(1185-1333.) The great majority of green tea consumed in our country today is the やぶきた[Yabukita] cultivar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisai https://japan-food.jetro.go.jp/greentea/

Here's some new characters for a side story I'm writing. They're an animatronic band built in the early 1980s by a Japanese company. The band is a Jazz Fusion band named SweetPea.
The purple one is Jinx Caida, he's based on a Giant Cicada, he's the band's drummer.
The yellow one is Seguchi Maximilian, he's based on an Asian Honeybee. He's the band's Hype man.
The pink one is Rachael, she's based on a Giant Asian Hornet. She's the band's keyboardist and lead singer.
The green one is Sparx, he's based on a Nut Weevil, he's the band's guitarist. (His guitar is based on a Casio DG-20)
Their storyline is that in 1988 they were put into storage for repairs. Believing that they're going to get scrapped three of the four Animatronics escape and end up getting involved in Japan's Motorsports scene.

Reminder this is US based, but let me know what invasive species you feel has had the biggest detrimental effect on where you live. Please share others of what you feel isn’t on this list it was hard to narrow it down to just nine.
I’m biased in my own answer (though it was difficult for me as well) as my capstone research was to document the ladybug species caught at my school’s field station, both what i caught myself and what they had in their pinned collections. I was horrified to find none of the bugs i caught or what my professors other classes caught were native almost all were the multicolor Asian lady beetle. The rest were other invasive beetles. Even in the pinned collections after the year they were introduced they dominated eventually beating out natives.
That being said if you’ve ever had the displeasure of battling knotweed you know how frustrating it is.

Elaine Hornette design notes. Elaine is the mother of Claudette and the wife of Claudis Hornette. Elaine is a very frail woman causing complications when trying to get pregnant. Even so, she managed to have a singular brood. Like most insects, Elaine doesn't wear much clothes in her bug form, opting to wear some simple lingerie under her lab coat. Unable to produce neck fluff, her necks pattering is visible.
Due to her weak body, she cannot enter Reverse;Gene, meaning she can't protect her colony from potential invaders.
Being a Japanese Giant Hornet, she takes on an asian appearance in her human form. Her hair is short and straight, with 2 fringes at the sides. Ironically, she's the only Hornet queen to dress in colors that match the look of a real life Hornet Queen.
