Finally made it down to the beach this week! We had a picnic at harkness state park. It was great to connect with some of the wild plants growing there. Pictured are elderberries, blackberries, Japanese knotweed, and beach plums. It was cool to see the seaweeds. I believe I was holding some Atlantic dulse in the picture. Happy earth day! Today we celebrate the love for our planet and all the things that we do to protect the earth. One positive byproduct of the coronavirus is that people are getting closer to nature! There is less smog in LA, you can hear the birds in NYC, and overall less fossil fuels are being used! Mother Earth is getting a much needed reprieve and I hope it will be a shift in the way of life for many. The more people realize how valuable it is to be sustainable the more positive changes we can make for the world. This is one of my favorite times to forage for wild edible and medicinal plants. As long as we sustainably harvest there is so much of nature that is available to us. So get outside and enjoy this beautiful day. Let the rays of the sun wash over you, breathe in the fresh air, hear the birdsong, the babbling brook, whatever sounds of nature are around you.
