This is a really amazing and well put together video I think every Skyrim fan should see. Here’s an in depth look at Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak. His life, his choices, his experiences. It provides an excellent analysis into Ulfric’s character and his motivations.

This was just supposed to be an inking practice but I just quickly colored it. I am getting way too obsessed with this guy, seriously. Even if he shouts me off mountains when he tries to defend me. Actually I'm way too obsessed with Skyrim.

The civil war quest line in Skyrim always get to me when it comes to Whiterun.

I usually end up siding with the imperials for both personal and role play reasons. When General Tulius sends you off to Whiterun, Jarl Barlgruf will ask you to deliver an axe to Ulfric Stormcloak, basically as a gift and to test the waters in a way. When you do get to Wildhelm and try to deliver the axe on Barlgruufs behalf, Ulfric will apologize and turn you away. It’s important to mention that Ulfric and Barlgruuf used to be friends. And as far as I can tell, pretty good(and close) friends at that. I can only imagine how Barlgruuf feels when the Dragonborn shows up as a soldier and messenger in Whiterun, being told that his once close old friend plans to siege his home.

I can honestly see it in my mind. Barlgruuf offering his sword, asking his once friend to tell him it’s not true. Getting his sword pushed back into him, and told to stand. They cannot fight properly if he grovels, mourning a friendship that Ulfric feels is long over.

Both feel betrayed, but for entirely different reasons.

(Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I’m autistic and it’s been a long day) (on another note, do y’all have any thoughts?)

Ulfric, Galmar, and Rikke

*As Ulfric dies*

Rikke: "Talos be with you..."

Tullius: "What was that, Legate?"

Rikke: "Nothing. Just saying goodbye." 

I think a lot of people forget that Ulfric, Galmar, and Rikke all fought together during the great war. They’re all good friends who ended up on different sides of the civil war. I also like that in the reverse of this situation Ulfric and Galmar actually asked her to leave the room several times. None of them want to be in this position. None of them want to have to have to kill each other. But they all stand by their beliefs and are willing and ready to die for them. 

Galmar: "Stand aside woman. We've come for the General."

Rikke: "He has given up. But I have not."

Ulfric: "Rikke. Go. You're free to leave."

Rikke: "I'm also free to stay and fight for what I believe in."

Ulfric: "You're also free to die for it."

Rikke: "This is what you wanted? Shield brothers and sisters killing each other? Families torn apart? This is the Skyrim you want?!"

Galmar: "Damnit woman, stand aside."

Rikke: "That's not the Skyrim I want to live in."

Ulfric: "Rikke. You don't have to do this."

Rikke: "You've left me no choice... Talos preserve us." 

*Rikke is killed*

I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil! I fight for their wives and children, whose names I heard whispered in their last breath. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing! I fight... because I must.
