Skymetal Reaver
“Seismic Elemental” © Wizards of the Coast, but Jasper Sandner. Accessed at his deviantArt page here
[The original Hackmaster version of this is the “festering reaver”, with the ability to create rotting wounds and ignore iron weapons and armor. Now, these sound like pretty random abilities, but they happen to match up with two of Pathfinder’s seven skymetals. So making it a skymetal themed monster, and creating variant abilities for the other skymetals, seemed natural.]
Skymetal Reaver
CR 12 NE Aberration
This rocky monster is nearly featureless, except for its two glittering eyes and its large, shovel-like limbs. Veins of exotic metals run through its body.
Skymetal reavers, sometimes called mineral monsters or living asteroids, are strange aberrations that drift throughout space and sometimes make planet-fall. They are of animalistic intelligence, and are concerned only with eating and breeding. They consume minerals of all kinds, but have a special fondness for organic minerals such as shell, tooth and bone. This leads them to ambush and kill living creatures to consume, although they allow the flesh to rot away before feasting on the bones left within. Some skymetal reavers live in mutualistic relationships with oozes—the acidic slimes consume the flesh and leave the bones for the reavers.
Each skymetal reaver contains veins of two kinds of rare and precious skymetal. A skymetal reaver’s body contains 4,000 gp worth of each skymetal alloy it contains--a successful DC 20 Knowledge (arcana) or Craft (metallurgy) check is required to successfully extract it.
Variant Skymetal Reavers
The sample reaver contains veins of abysium and inubrix, giving it the ghost iron and poison special abilities. Other skymetal reavers may have different skymetals in them. This switches one or both of the ghost iron and poison abilities with one or two of the following abilities below:
Adamantine: A skymetal reaver containing adamantine gains DR 10/adamantine and its natural attacks overcome DR and hardness as if they were made out of adamantine. It still cannot affect iron and steel if it also contains inubrix.
Djezet: A skymetal reaver containing djezet has a malleable and semi-fluid body. It gains the amorphous and compression special qualities.
Horacalcum: A skymetal reaver containing horacalcum acts slightly faster than its speed and agility would allow, as its body is slightly accelerated in time. It gains a +2 insight bonus on all attack rolls and initiative checks.
Noqual: A skymetal reaver containing noqual is incredibly resistant to magic. It gains SR equal to 15 plus its CR (27 for an average reaver).
Siccatite: A skymetal reaver containing siccatite radiates heat and cold. Its natural attacks deal an extra 2d6 points of fire or cold damage—the reaver can switch between damage types as a swift action.
