Pick up an instrument you can’t play, or play one you can in a different way. One of David Kosten’s favourite approaches is that if something sounds too ordinary and lacking in character, the instruction will come over the headphones to ‘Try to play it worse’. Professionalism is sometimes the most boring thing of all and you need to relocate the amateur in you. I like to remind myself that the word amateur, so often used as an insult, actually comes from the Latin ‘amare’, to love. So being an amateur means you’re doing something simply because you love doing it.
I spent about 2 days trying to find this song because going by title I immediately only found the '71 version and I reached the point of assuming I just made up the song I heard until I realised they recorded another version
OCTAfan's Obscure and Weird Musical Instruments Tournament Round 1 Part 6: Jaw Harp VS Musical Saw
Also known as the Jew's Harp, Juice Harp or Mouth Harp, the Jaw Harp is a lamellophone that's pretty cool. Its played by placing it on the mouth, and plunking the reed and blowing into it. The pitch can be changed by changing the shape of the mouth and how much air is blown into it. You can even speak into it, creating a really cool effect!
Looking very, VERY out of place in the lineup, the musical saw, also known as the Singing Saw. It is an idiophone instrument that's basically a regular saw that is played by bending the tip and bowing it. It sounds very similar to a theremin.
aliens kidnap me and ask me what the best musician humans ever put on this earth was and i tell them jnew for having songs that feature jaw harp prominently and yet make you cry uncontrollably
The Dissembler's Harp.
Homebrew magic item from @DungeonScribe.
It's been a while since I've seen a Jaw Harp (or Mouth Harp), and I think it'd be a fun, portable little instrument for a bard.
Fuck classical musical instruments! :D Give freedom from notes and chords! I bought myself a Potkin's khomus(Yakut jaw harp), learned to play it in half an hour, now I'm playing and enjoying it. After the new year I want to buy another one, now from the master Glazyrin, "Yakut" or "Samurai"
