Today is World Arthritis Day. Brenna and I spent the afternoon playing outside, making our favorite dinner, and spending time as a family. Just because she has an autoimmune disease doesn't define her or her ability to enjoy life like a normal child. Though we are lucky that she is on medications that have been helpful to her road to remission, we still have a long ways to go. My platform, "Brenna's Brigade: Juvenile Arthritis Awareness" is inspired by my sister, Brenna, and her brave battle with a pediatric auto-immune disease. She is #StrongerThanJA and inspires me not only as a titleholder, but more importantly as her big sister, to serve the 300,000 kids who fight every day. These amazing kids and I had a fun day together at Camp Cambria/Courage; a place where they can be themselves, make new friends in the arthritis community, and enjoy a lifetime of fun memories! Everyone knows someone with arthritis. For me, my sister Brenna is my biggest source of motivation for wanting to create change. She is my hero; facing relentless pain, a frustrating search for a diagnosis, multiple doctor’s visits and treatment, missed work and school, limited mobility, a maze of medical and insurance paperwork, and the desire to live a full life without the limitations that arthritis creates. Yet, she is filled with hope and positivity that someday, we will find a cure for Juvenile Arthritis. . The Walk to Cure Arthritis is the largest gathering of the arthritis community in the world, raising funds for research, resources, better treatments and a cure.
