heartsdesire456 has been my fandom name since the beginning, even though its kind of a dumb name, and it’s like a brand now. People know me as heartsdesire456 so I decided to FULLY EMBRACE IT as a full FANDOM experience.

But feel free to still call me Chelsea or Chels like everybody else does on here!

Alright, so I finally finished reading my good friend @jchelseaw‘s masterpiece, A Fighting Chance, and I am just blown away.

I have known her for a long while, and I have read herother work and I know she is a fantastic writer, but this is by far my favorite Malec fic (edging out even In the Sin Bin and a couple other truly amazing ones) and probably my favorite fic of hers altogether. 

This fic has everything, from the humorous, to the romantic, to the infuriating, to the suspenseful, action, drama, smut, feels, everything.  I have to say for someone who talks so much about fics not needing smut to be good or a big kiss to show a happy ending, Chelsea pulls no punches (pun intended) with the smut in this fic which is both genre subversive and right on the mark for steaminess.

God, there is so much to love about this fic and I don’t want to spoil it for any of my followers who might end up going to read her brilliant fic, but let me just give a couple quick snapshots of things I absolutely loved; Magnus being SUPER Bisexual and extremely proud of it, actual real to-fucking-life angst over being closeted and how that FUCKS your mental health up real bad (a lot of fics cover the coming out angst, but not how emotionally crippling it is to live with being closeted for so much of your adult life, I should know as a closeted gay man myself), Magnus being a complete badass, Alec being so frekaing adorably damage, Jace being just the right amount of insufferable jerkass and supportive brother, Isabelle being the queen of everything, Raphael being a fucking goober in secret to his adorably weird boyfriend Simon and a stoic asshole to literally EVERYONE else, incredibly detailed writing that shows how much effort Chelsea puts into her research on any topic no matter how mundane or trivial, and overall some of the best writing I’ve seen in this fandom, personally.

Finally, I’ll leave you with the sole comment I left on her works page, which is that Chelsea manages to do something very masterful here that many fic writers attempt, but very few, if any manage to achieve, and that is to make us HATE a character for how they’ve treated another one, but for us to not only fully understand why they did it, not only to empathize with their struggle as well as the victim’s, but to still be rooting for them in the end after everything.  (those two scenes at the end, right before the thing and after the other thing I just...  I was crying my eyes out it was so good)
