EB's hiatus and head canons
I'll be on hiatus starting tomorrow (7/4) until 7/13 - when I get back that weekend I'll answer anything in my inbox why does this sound corporate can you tell I've been an adult for too long.
But!
Before I leave, I wanted to gift ya'll with some head canons from my upcoming Jean x reader fic. These are not spoilers, but if you want *everything* to be a complete surprise - don't read!
It's a modern au featuring ex-Jeankasa angst (I promise they don't hate each other or anything, but it is tense!) and ex-you x someone else angst (I ain't tell you shit about that yet). Most characters are assumed to be in their late twenties and early thirties. Assumed Reibert and Aruani and Pieck x Porco (I don't actually know the name for this help).
Pieck
Unironically asks Porco the worm question
Has a pet tortoise ("he was here before Porco, he'll be here after Porco!)
Porco
Doesn't understand the worm question
Pretends he doesn't like pickles so he can always give his to Pieck as restaurants
Marcel
Has a scar from when Porco threw a knife at him as a child
Goes to the gym late at night and developed a habit of re-organizing the weights for the staff
Connie
His credit card chip doesn't work because it went through the microwave. Nobody knows how this happens, least of all Connie.
Doesn't understand how time zones work.
Bertolt
Wore Velcro shoes until the 5th grade because that's how long it took him to tie his shoes
Marching band nerd (trumpet)
Reiner
Is a talented baker, but can't cook for shit
Rides a motorcycle and taught Bert so they could go on boyfriend motorcycle rides
Mikasa
Kickboxing queen
Has a nose piercing
Annie
Sold a record amount of Girl Scout cookies via intimidation tactics
Is a Swiftie. She will deny this at gun point (only Armin knows)
Armin
Drives a Prius with a "coexist" sticker
Doesn't know how to swim, but he's taking classes
Sasha
Banned from half the buffets in Trost
Unironically wears Crocs
Marco
LOVES puzzles
Fosters rescue dogs
Eren
Won the last spot on the varsity basketball team as a freshman (Jean was pissed about this)
Had braces for an extra year because he refused to wear the rubber bands
Jean
Despite his best efforts, didn't have sex until after college (and despite what he'll have everyone think)
Has a small collection of Converse and Vans

I was sad so I was making jeankasa headcanons and I decided Mikasa makes breakfast and lunch and Jean makes dinner in their house, Jean also does the grocery shopping. But I also have headcanons about Jean making omelettes for breakfast so I decided on weekends, Jean makes breakfast.
Also, Mikasa's cooking is more homely, she tries to recreate some of the dishes her mother used to make but hardly can because she doesn't really remember, she remembers a few of Carla's recipes, the rest she learns from Mrs. Kirschtein. She tries some recipe books but they're also homecooked meal type recipes. Jean on the other hand is the fancy one, he tries to make fine dining experience type food, and obsesses over presentation etc. While it isn't always a success, his dessert making skills are unmatched.

Update on that Jeankasa smut story.
JESUS CHRIST! Why is it so hard to write smut?
I swear I’m going to try publish it by late friday or the weekend.

(stalactice) 11 and 18 for the deep fic ask?
Thank you VERY much for this ask!!! It makes me real happy to talk about those!
11. Has a fic you’ve written ever caused issues/controversy?
Oh boy... all of the long fics have (Eremika)! Which is good and I love it, actually (some of the comments, not all).
- In I did not live until today, Mikasa's character was quite controversial because she had issues with her father and she was quite selfish and took it out on her mother. I received a comment saying that they really liked the story but couldn't stand Mikasa, so I guess I was doing a good job! Later on, right at chapter 20, I think, Eren and Mikasa have *the fight* because she hasn't told him she's going to pursue singing instead of dancing, and damn, those comments were so full of people saying Team Eren or Team Mikasa and people answering each other and debating! It was very incredible and I loved it, but it was my first fic and I was very nervous about it. I also received two anons saying that they didn't like that Mikasa had felt attracted to Levi at the beginning, and that they didn't like that Eren was bisexual (the latter made me cackle).
- In Instead they said, the bathtub convo between Mikasa and Eren was quite a thing. An anon commented that if Mikasa liked Jean's *thing* better, she should stay with Jean and didn't know why she was with Eren? It was a weird comment and I woke up with a lot of people fighting for Mikasa in the comment section :') which I guess was nice, but it also made me wonder if I had phrased something wrong so that the anon hadn't understood that love! Admittedly, at first I thought I would get hate for writing Jeankasa and Erehisu, but people were very nice! I remember comments telling me that they hated the ships but loved my fic, so I guess it was alright.
- Rotten Judgement... has had a lot of controverse. Long author notes explaining myself, long conversations with my sister, too. Some nasty comments accusing me of racist in my fic, indirects on Twitter on how I made Grisha racist when Grisha in canonverse loved Mikasa (pfffff, do people understand what fanfiction is?), some nasty things about the characters when they hadn't even read it or skimmed through parts. But I guess this comes with writing morally grey characters in the end.
18. Do you only write when you’re inspired, or do you try and sit down at specific times and write no matter what?
I'm still trying to figure a schedule that doesn't tire me out or makes me abandon my novels half-way. But what I've done for almost 5 years (with novel and fic) is to get up everyday (almost) at 6/6.30 (not on weekends) to write. I try to write everyday, no matter what. I am trying to change this pressure now, knowing that it's alright if I don't write everyday, and still trying to enjoy it.

Made a drawing for Jeankasa week held by @jeankasaevents
Well, summer is associated with beach and I like retro swimsuits, so here it comes. And Mikasa sure likes when her hair is long so I draw it this way! And... What colour is Jean's hair?.. I can't understand
Ah, I want to go to the sea

@heichou-in-my-head requested Flowershop using Alexa and this is The flower Shop au Alexa kind of suggested. Sorry, it’s not canon. Ask Alexa/Siri prompt | “Las Flores” by Café Tacuba
Tumblr media
The answer is in the flowers Jeankasa Summer Weekend | AU | Fluff
.
Summary: Every two Fridays ten minutes past seven, like a clock—unless the train arrived late—, the same guy entered her shop. First, he’d walk around the greenhouse for a few minutes, then he’d approach her, asking for flowers. It’d be a short conversation while she finished the day. Mikasa noticed the pattern by accident, the first time he wasn’t on time. For eight months he did the same. A different flower every time, as if he had a list, in alphabetical order.

It isnt entirely winter themed but I felt like uploading this self indulgent Jeankasa I drew for a Band AU I have been rping for awhile with friends. I've posted art about it before 😉 For some context; we based the band Jean (and Eren) started off of Twenty One Pilots, hence why Jean's look is self indulgent on my part lol...
I did draw this with a winter tour in mind though so I figured I would share it during the @jeankasa-events winter weekend in case I don't do anything else with it~

between the stars and waves
Jeankasa Fairytale AU.
Title from the song 241 (My Favorite Song) by Rivermaya and quotes from the song 214 by Rico Blanco. Happy reading!
(A summer night in heaven
Between the stars and waves
Gaze across the old bonfire;
Trample on my heartbeat)
He is standing on the shoreline, head tipped back and admiring the Milky Way, when everything around him illuminates with a blinding flash of light and he watches as a star falls to earth and crashes in the ocean, a little too close to the shore. He is momentarily blinded by the light and forgets to make a wish. He blinks and rubs at his eyes, his eyes watering as he does so, and when he finally opens them, everything has turned dark once more.
He is about to head home when a girl emerges from between the waves like a goddess clad only in a flimsy, see-through material with long dark hair framing her face and clinging to her shoulders. He watches, wide eyed, as she makes her way to him. His brain is telling him to run but he is transfixed by her beauty, his body unmoving.
She cups his face in her hands the moment she is close enough. Her hands are cold as ice and he flinches from the contact.
This is it, he thinks and closes his eyes.
He thought that she might kiss him and take his life away. Aren’t stories with ethereal beings always, always end up with a man giving up his life for a taste of her? He didn’t know if he wants to die just yet so he takes a step back and her hands fall from his face.
When he opened his eyes, he found her face closer than he had expected. He takes another step back, wanting to put as much distance between him and her – this mysterious fallen star – but she follows suit and clutches at the shirt he’s wearing with her hands.
He readies himself to bolt - plants his feet firm on the uneven sand and rakes his brain for ways to push her hard enough to get away yet not too hard so as not to hurt her – when he notices the expression on her face and the frightened and distraught look in her eyes.
Supernatural happenings weren’t new to him, he had always been gifted, so to speak. People in their little village would always come knocking on their door and ask him to look into their futures. He doesn’t read palms or use tarot cards or anything like that. He dreams instead.
But when she fell in the waters of his island home, he was utterly surprised. None of his dreams had prepared him for this, none of them had told him of a falling star. Living on his own was hard enough as it is and now he has to look after some girl who came from the cosmos.
Thanks a lot, dreams.
But despite this, he tries his best - tries to make conversation with her, tries to figure out what she is, and what she needs in the days following her arrival. But she is silent, always so silent, and does nothing but watch him with sad, lonely eyes.
It’s been more than a month since. And Jean has provided her with everything and yet he still knows nothing about her except that she sleeps most of the day and would tug at his shirtsleeves at night to accompany her to the shoreline to watch the night sky.
They would sit side-by-side. He’d cross his legs and lean back on his hands and she’d hug her knees to her chest and stare longingly at the stars. He’d often steal glances at her as they sit in silence and would try to figure out what’s going on in her head as a gentle breeze blows from the sea.
Sometimes, he’d see her wiping at her eyes and something inside his chest would always clench at the sight.
He hurts for her, for his silent fallen star.
He is awfully aware of her presence and her wide-eyed stares whenever he does the most menial of tasks at home – whether it be fixing the leaky faucet or washing the dishes or hanging up the laundry. She would always be hovering around him, taking everything in with childlike wonder. And always always observing – almost as if she wants to learn but cannot express her intent to.
So, to combat this, he teaches her and shows her how to make a home. There are nights where they prepare dinner together and there are mornings where he wakes up to the smell of fried eggs and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
Ever since she crash-landed into his life, his psychic dreams have ceased. And for the first time in his life, he doesn’t know what tomorrow would bring. He can’t decide quite yet if he likes his dreamless sleeps or not but one thing is for sure – he likes having her around despite her silence.
He would often tell her stories of his work in the fish market, or of the crazy antics of his friends, or of the beauty he sees on the ocean floor when he goes diving for mother-of-pearl. Even though she doesn’t say anything, he knows that she enjoys hearing about his day for when he had first told her stories, she smiled and laughed and urged for him to tell her more.
And he thinks that her smile is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.
The first time he heard her speak was when he was scaling a coconut tree to harvest its fruit.
She was a few feet away from the base of tree with a wicker basket in her arms, ready to catch the coconuts as he tosses them her way. His foot had slipped as he was coming down and he heard her say be careful in such a soft voice that it would have been lost to the wind if he weren’t so attuned to her so much.
He’d run to her then, with the biggest smile plastered on his face, and almost knocked her to the ground. She dropped the basket in surprise and gave out a yelp as he picked her up and swung her around. He was laughing and so was she.
She was not mute after all.
They fall into a routine.
She would always make breakfast, pack his lunch for work, and they would always make dinner together. He loves coming home to her and he would often give her trinkets that he thinks she’d appreciate – a hairbrush, star-shaped hairpin, or a dainty necklace with a seastar pendant. Sometimes, he’d bring her flowers as well and she’d put them in a vase and place them on display the following day.
Lazy Sunday afternoons are his favorite. Most of the times he’d read to her from his old worn book of fairytales under the shade of the palm trees, his head nestled on her lap while she plays with his hair. Sometimes, he’d teach her how to read as she leans back into his chest, his heart against her spine, and he thinks that exchanging his dreams for her company is not quite so bad after all.
She still prefers to be quietly observing and she still has lots to learn. He doesn’t mind it though. He likes the silence and he likes being there for her.
On idle days, they’d sit by the shore, the waves lapping at their feet and he’d point out things to her and recite their name – sand, sea, shore – and she’d repeat them to him. Sometimes, she’d point at things she hasn’t learned the name of yet and he’d gladly tell her – sky, boat, tree.
It suddenly occurred to him that he still hasn’t told her his name, despite living together for more than a year now. And so, he tells her on one sunny afternoon while they were out at sea.
She was seated across from him and he wasn’t quite sure if she heard him for she didn’t stop leaning over the side of the boat and watching the fish swim below amongst the brightly colored reef.
He flushed, suddenly self-conscious, suddenly aware of how generic his name was, how ordinary. Maybe she didn’t like his name, maybe she thought it was lame, maybe she’d hope that his name was something cooler. Just as he was about to will himself to turn into smoke and ask the ocean to swallow him whole – she whispers his name. The sound of it rolling off her tongue made him flush him even more and his heart hammer away in his chest.
Clear skies at night are her favorite. He’d point out the constellations to her and traces them with his finger, as they lay under the stars. Orion and its belt, the raging bull, the twins. He wonders if she can recognize her fellow stars from down here, if she can see where she once was amongst the multitude of asterisms and star systems in their vast, vast universe.
He steals a glance at her and the same look of longing still etched on her face.
“Would you like to go back?” he asks, his voice low.
He dreads what her answer might be. A part of him wants her to say no, wants her to stay even if he knows that he can’t keep her with him forever. Another part of him knows that it is selfish of him to restrain her, to tie her to him, to keep her in a jar like some specimen meant for his eyes alone – especially when he knows deep in his soul that she wants nothing more than to be back up in the night sky with her brothers and sisters. She belongs to the stars, after all.
He had long accepted the fact that she might leave him someday but he doesn’t ever want to know what that entails for him.
He doesn’t want to know a future without her.
“Yes.”
It hurt – her answer hurt more than any physical pain he has ever experienced. It felt as if someone punched through his ribcage and took his heart out. And her presence at home only makes the heaviness in his chest even more unbearable.
So, to combat this, he tells her that he’d be sleeping over at a friend’s place for a couple of nights. He’d half-expected her to protest, to stop him from leaving, but all she said was take care of yourself.
And it sounded as if she was saying goodbye to him for good.
A week passes before he’d gathered enough courage to return home. If she wants to leave, she can leave. You’ll be alright, Jean. As you have always been.
He’d arrive home late and expected her to be out by the ocean, looking up at the galaxy, but was surprised to find her sitting on the bamboo stairs of their nipa hut.
Her face lights up for a fraction of a second when she sees him and something in his gut twists and his heart clenches in his chest.
“You were waiting for me,” he’d said. She must have been terribly lonely without him.
She nods and takes his hand in hers and led him towards the ocean. Jean thinks that this is it – she’d say her goodbyes to him on the shore where she came crashing into his life all those months ago. But she leads him under a row of palm trees instead and he is surprised to find a blanket laid out underneath. She sits down and he follows suit.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you,” she blurts out, her voice small and broken, as tears start to spill out her eyes.
His heart shatters at the sight and he pulls her toward him, cupping her face in his hands and wiping away her tears, “You can leave if you want. I won’t stop you.”
She shakes her head, “I’m not going to leave. I want to stay here with you, Jean.”
He was prepared for the worst and her confession caught him off-guard. He blinks at her – once, twice, three times – before what she’d said finally sunk in. His heart soared and he can’t quite decide whether he wants to kiss her or he wants to marry her right then and there. So, he rests his forehead against hers and cries instead, tears of mirth spilling out his eyes.
A troubled expression passes over her features, “Are you not happy? Don’t you want me to leave?”
This time it is he who shakes his head, “No, never.”
“Then why are you crying?” she inquires, her hands bunching up the fabric of his shirt, her eyes searching his face. With this, he laughs. She must think of him a lunatic now.
He takes her hand in his and brings it to his lips, kissing her palm, “I’m so happy I’m crying and I never wish to be parted with you again.”
(Take my hand
And gently close your eyes so you could understand
That there's no greater love tonight than what I've for you)

For the prompt... Jeankasa/ the princess and the frog?... maybe a late entry for the fairy tales weekend?
Thanks for the request!  I took inspiration from the Grimm Fairy Tale version and the Disney version, but it’s really condensed.
On a bright mid-summer morning a girl strode through a wild meadow.  She had no direction or aim, but to be free for only a moment.  Her boots found the stones of a creek and she balanced her way down the current.
Mikasa did not allow herself much indulgence, for to find her dreams she knew she must work hard.  During the day she went to school, then work, then home.  The weekend was filled with more work and study.  And one day a month she set aside for this.
Out here there was no waiting alarm clock, night shift, or chores.  She could grieve and cry.  Or rant and kick.  Stomp through the grass or let water wade through her fingers while she watched it trickle past.
Her creek led to a pond.  Willow branches dipped into the still pool, cattails bobbed on a breeze, and dragonflies kissed the water between lily pads.  Her soul relaxed here.  Anger had been simmering in her heart–any trip to the bank was laced with a strong dose of reality–and her thoughts had spiraled until now.
She sat in a beam of sunlight on soft grass, stretched out her legs and closed her eyes.  Peace.  She could only hear the rustle of the leaves, the babble of the creek, the little splash of frogs, the–
“Hey.”
Mikasa leapt to her feet, her fists ready, and spun to find herself completely alone.  As her heart stilled she asked the emptiness, “Hello?”
“Yeah, hey.”
A voice, clear as day, right next to her.  Mikasa looked up, scanned the other side of the pond, searched for the source of the voice.  But there was no source to be found.
“Sorry, you seem a bit riled up…” The voice continued, “You planning on attacking me?”
She looked down at her fists, knuckles white, and decided against dropping them.  A girl could never be too careful.  She was not a fool, not again.  That day had made her guarded and cautious.
“Where are you?”
“Well, first promise you’re not going to punch me.” The voice was male, but wrong somehow.  A deep…croaking quality.  Was it an invisible person?  She had heard of magic deep in these woods, witches and hags ready to curse anyone foolish enough to cross them.  But here?  This part of the wood was always safe.  And invisible boys was not something she’d ever heard of before.
“Show yourself and we’ll discuss it.”  She was still pivoting on her foot, her eyes scanning, scanning.  She balanced on the toes, ready to spring in any direction should the voice appear.
“I get that I scared you, I’m sorry, but I don’t mean you any harm.  Honest.  If you could just…” his voice moved, “Stop moving…” moved again, “You’re getting dangerously close to killing me, here.”
Mikasa nearly threw her hands up in exasperation.  The voice continued to hop around…
She looked down.  Ants scurried through the grass, a cricket jumped and a moth fluttered away, and a frog sat near her boot.  A big frog, bright green and slimy.
“Please stop staring, I know I look disgusting.”
Somehow, the voice coming from the frog did not scare her.  It shocked her, certainly, Mikasa was frozen in place.  Though, she supposed, if he did turn out to be evil she could just step on him.
“Figures.  First person to come here and it’s a hot girl.”
His speech was youthful for a frog, like it should be coming from a teenager and not an amphibian.  She couldn’t bring herself to respond.  If she didn’t acknowledge it, maybe he would go away.
The frog hopped over to a log and sat atop.  She didn’t understand how, but its frog features appeared miserable.  Pathetic, really.
“Listen, I was gonna ask for your help, but I can’t.  So can you please just leave me here to rot in peace?  Or, at least, just stop staring cause you’re really beautiful and I swear I don’t look like this normally.”  He groaned, which turned into a croak, and then groaned again.  His frog hands covered his eyes.  “I need to just shut up.”  He shook his head back and forth, before throwing his hands down and crying out, “I’m so much better looking than this, I swear.”
Mikasa understood that he was no threat, but rather pitiable.  While he prattled on about his looks she had made a few deductions about him that gave her pause.  When he was finally quiet she asked, “Are you normally human?”
“YES!” He wailed, “But I didn’t know she was a witch when I said that.  How could I know?  I was just being honest.”  He took a deep breath.  “Anyway, here I am.  Been stuck here for weeks.”
She wrinkled her nose, picturing the scene of a human boy trapped as a frog in the woods for weeks.  Oh, gross, what did he eat?
“Don’t pity me, I beg you.  I’ll figure out how to get this fixed…” He was quiet for a second, then he looked up at her, “Any chance you’d, maybe, carve your number into this log before you go?”
Her mouth dropped open.
“Never mind, it was worth a shot,” he sighed.  “Anyway, thanks for listening.”
“Wait,” She called before he could hop away, “Did she tell you how to break this curse?”
His cheeks puffed up, like he was holding in his answer.  Then he slowly answered, “Yeah…”
“What do you need to do?  I might be able to help.”
He hung his head.  “You definitely would, but…uh, can’t.”
She crossed her arms.  “Do you want to stay a frog?”
“Of course not.”
“Then stop being a child and just tell me.”
He closed his eyes.  “Fine.  The witch said I could break the curse ‘if I could find someone willing to kiss a frog.’”  Mikasa pursed her lips, but he was already shaking his head.  “But no.  No way.  I don’t expect you–”
“You’re being dense.”  She walked over to the log and knelt down.  She supposed it was kind of gross to kiss a frog, but somehow, the idea that he was actually a person helped.  “A kiss is only a second.  Two seconds and you’re free.”
He considered.  “I guess…”
“Hold still.” She didn’t close her eyes, this wasn’t a romantic gesture, but just leaned forward and placed a small, gentle kiss on the frog’s head.  She sat up straight and wiped her mouth on her sleeve.  He was much wetter than she anticipated.  She swiped at her mouth again.  Two more times.  Okay, it was a bit grosser than she expected.
And while she rubbed her lips, sparks of light caught her eye.  Enchantment swirling around the log, engulfing everything in light, until it all vanished with a radiant snap.  And in place of the frog sat a boy.
He opened his eyes and looked down at himself.  His hands roamed over his t-shirt and down to his sneakers.  He jumped up.
“My legs!”  He caressed his own cheeks and ruffled his short, ash-blonde hair.  Mikasa looked away, refusing to acknowledge that he’d been right, he was definitely more attractive than a frog.
While his elation subsided he began to take notice of her again.  His cheeks turning a bright red.  “Uh, thanks.  Thank you.”
She nodded and stood up beside him.  Now that he was a boy, and an attractive boy around her own age, their tranquil pond had become an awkward oasis.
“So…um,” he scratched at his cheek, “Any chance of getting your number now?”
That made her smile.  It had been a long time since she smiled.  Mikasa put her hands in her pockets, “Don’t get ahead of yourself.”  She gestured for him to follow and he ran to her side.
“To be fair, though, we’ve already kissed once so it wouldn’t be weird to do it again.”
Mikasa pushed his shoulder, hard, knocking him completely off balance and into a bush.  “You’re pushing it.”
She left him to untangle himself from the bush, obviously not fully adjusted to having human limbs again.  But she walked slowly.  Plenty of time for him to catch up.
