Hey music lovers! 🎶 Let's dive into the soul-stirring journey of Stone Temple Pilots and their iconic track "Interstate Love Song."
In the early '90s, amidst the grunge revolution, four talented souls – Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz – came together in California. Their musical chemistry was undeniable, leading them to create the band that would resonate through generations. But hey, how did they come up with the name? Legend has it, they flipped through a STP motor oil sticker booklet and voilà, Stone Temple Pilots was born!
Fast forward to the '90s, and their music was a testament to their raw talent. Hits like "Plush" and "Interstate Love Song" became anthems of an era, blending grunge with a unique STP twist.
Now, here’s a fun tidbit: during their tours, the band used to play pranks on each other. One time, they convinced Scott Weiland that their tour bus was haunted! Imagine the rockstar shivers!
But alas, in 2013, the music world mourned as Scott Weiland left the band. His struggles were real, but his legacy lives on. In 2015, the world lost this incredible artist, leaving behind a void no one could fill.
But fear not, music aficionados! The remaining trio didn’t let adversity dim their light. With Jeff Gutt as their new lead vocalist, STP powered on, releasing new music and captivating audiences worldwide. Their resilience is awe-inspiring, reminding us that the beat goes on.
Join us in celebrating the magic of Stone Temple Pilots! Dive into their timeless tunes and witness the evolution of musical legends.

Our Tastes In Music Related to Time, Part II: Goo Goo Dolls
Today's albums were 1998's Dizzy Up the Girl and 1995's A Boy Named Goo by Goo Goo Dolls.
I mentioned how much I love "Iris," so they were my prime band to start with. Today, it perhaps ranks amongst one of my favorite songs of all time, particularly for the chorus, the overall cathartic feel of the tune, and the way it flows between time signatures. It's a song that I enjoyed in its time, but didn't really fully appreciate until many years later. When one of my favorite (and underappreciated) vocalists of all time, Jeff Gutt, reappeared on X Factor around a decade ago, he finally found some success. On one of his final shows, he got to sing "Iris" with John Rzeznik, and that's when it really hit me. It's one of only a few songs that will make me tear up nearly every time I hear it. I could write a whole post about its beauty, and the psychology about why I identify with it and how I interpret it. (There are various interpretations, the most common mirroring the plot of the movie it was written for, about an angel who gives up his immortality to be with the love of his life, and in doing so, becomes vulnerable to both the joyous and undesirable qualities of being human, like love and joy versus pain and loss. But I also think the great thing about music is how fluid the definition of a song can be based on people's own experiences. I don't seek out romantic relationships very often. And even if I'm interested in someone, I may not even approach them unless I feel compelled to by a detail about them that I find out. But when I do find someone I like, I'm all in. I know I'm an enigmatic, stoic, weirdo, so I just “want that person to know who I am.” I'm really honest, and never shy away from being vulnerable, and try to paint the perfect picture of who I am – a person who I'm very proud of these days. Sadly, and painfully, things haven't worked out, but I'm always peering through my spyglass, observing my world to find my next “Iris.” But enough about why “Iris” is so damn good.) With Dizzy Up the Girl, I knew the big hits well: “Iris,” “Slide,” and “Broadway,” but found some other great songs as well. There are a few slow spots, but overall it's pretty good. I feel like Rzeznik's voice has dimensions I never knew about, and they're a little more punk influenced then I originally thought. Then I went right into A Boy Named Goo. There I really was only familiar with the big hit, “Name.” But the rest of the album feels even more upbeat and punk-ish. There's even an F bomb at one point. Punk, and grunge, aren't necessarily genres I liked as much, so I'm not sure how I feel about the more punk-ish stuff. But there's still a lot of great, anthemic pop rock there as well, like “Long Way Down,” Flat Top”, “Ain't That Unusual,” and “Eyes Wide Open.” Ultimately, I'm not sure how much I'd crave listening to the deeper cuts of Goo Goo Dolls, and I didn't find a gem like yesterday's 3 Doors Down track that dumbfounded me, but the hits definitely stand up well today. Also for reading this far, I'd like to remind you of one of my favorite stupid jokes. It came from Andy Richter as part of one of Conan's In The Year 2000 bits. I don't remember it verbatim, only the basic punchline, but let's say it went something like this: Baby's everywhere will fill stadiums when Lady Gaga and the Goo Goo Dolls decide to unite, forming the supergroup Gaga Goo Goo.

Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Sons Deliver Outstanding Performances at Toyota Amphitheatre

(Pictured: Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan welcomes the crowd at the Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland.)
In a season where we are all doing our best to escape the Northern California heat, there are few things better than watching a beautiful concert surrounded by the cool evening air. Lining up early at the Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland, thousands of eager fans waited to see the Smashing Pumpkins on their World is a Vampire Tour along with openers Stone Temple Pilots and Rival Sons this past Monday. The peaceful farming community of Wheatland served as the perfect reprieve from the bustling city of Sacramento, and the doors of the amphitheatre opened into a seemingly magical place where fans could connect with one another and enjoy refreshments as they cheered on each band in succession.
The first band to take the stage, Rival Sons, hailed from Long Beach, CA, not far from our radio station’s headquarters in Irvine. Bringing their unique brand of musicality to the Toyota Amphitheatre, singer Jay Buchanan warmed up the crowd and drew a significant amount of dancing and cheering from the pit. As rock-and-roll veterans, their band had been performing since 2006 and their experience translated into the success of their dynamic performance. From their upbeat and heavy-hitting song “Mirrors” to slow burners such as “Rapture,” Rival Sons showcased their diverse catalog, much to the audience’s enjoyment. They effortlessly maintained a unique sound while preparing the crowd to welcome the coming acts onstage.

Next up were the Stone Temple Pilots from San Diego, CA, who graced the stage with energy and enthusiasm. Playing many of their highlights from the 1992 release Core, which ranged from the upbeat opener “Wicked Garden” to the soft and moody “Plush,” longtime STP fans were rewarded with some of their favorite classics from the band. Stone Temple Pilots’ newer work served as a perfect transition to the Smashing Pumpkins, with energetic songs like their 2010 track “Meadow” pairing perfectly with the flashing stage lights, engaging new listeners alongside longtime fans.

Lead singer Jeff Gutt drew in the crowd with his strong lead vocals and entertaining monologues between songs, brandishing his microphone stand victoriously in the air as he sang. Fellow bandmates Dean DeLeo on guitar, Robert DeLeo on bass and Eric Kretz on drums incorporated engaging solos that blended effortlessly with the rhythm of the band’s tracks. As the sun began to set, Stone Temple Pilots continued on to thank their supporters for having them back in the Toyota Amphitheatre for the first time since 2020. They closed out their set with “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart” and “Sex Type Thing,” affirming their dedication and excellence in the world of rock-and-roll.

As the stars slowly began to emerge in the night sky, it was time for the legendary Smashing Pumpkins to take the stage. Originating from Chicago, IL, the band was established in 1988 and later reunited in 2008 under the leadership of frontman Billy Corgan. Drawing on their lauded catalog, the group hooked their eager audience immediately with the punchy track “The Everlasting Gaze,” easing into the softer songs “Today” and “Disarm” before turning up the energy with “Purple Blood.” Guitarist and co-founder of the band James Iha performed a beautiful acoustic duet of “Tonight, Tonight” with Corgan, before which the pair remarked their amazement at being involved in the Smashing Pumpkins for nearly 37 years. The song brought a hushed admiration upon the crowd, resonating from the front of the house to the highest seats of the amphitheatre.

While many of the band’s most notable tracks from the 1995 Grammy-nominated album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness were featured in their setlist, including “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “1979,” the Smashing Pumpkins did not hesitate to include some of their newer songs from 2012’s Oceania and 2020’s CYR. Corgan’s humor and humility shone through his monologues between songs, allowing the band’s seamless performance to speak for itself on “Empires” and “Cherub Rock” as fans eagerly jumped and cheered along in the stands. Several songs also featured impressive interludes on guitar and drums, complimenting Corgan’s vocals and adding depth to the set. Closing the show with the timeless “Zero,” the Smashing Pumpkins delivered an incredible finale to their loyal fans and made a lasting impression on newer and older generations alike.

Dessuten kunne han synge over fire forskjellige oktaver.
Jeg liker best hans siste album som heter "Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk" (utgitt i 1998) og særlig elsker jeg sangen "Nightmares by the Sea". Teksten sier:
"Stay with me under these waves, tonight. Be free for once in your life, tonight".
Frysninger.

El más reciente fue ‘Perdida’ en 2020. 4 years ago, on this day (March 8), Johnny Depp attended and was one the special guests on the Stone Temple Pilots’ third concert of their 2018 North American Tour, rocking The Rose, in Pasadena, California.
On that day, Johnny went on stage to play guitar on the last three songs. First he played “Down”, and then with Joe Perry played Aerosmith’s cover of “Toys in the Attic” (making this the first and only time the Stone Temple Pilots performed the song) and “Sex Type Thing”. This show also marks Johnny’s second time as special guest on their tour, after attending and performing on stage on the first show on March 2, 2018.

@relaxvideobar www.relaxvideobar.com (at RELAX VIDEO BAR) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChoJ5cAsWwB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
