While not (quite) finished, the Maggie’s are already shining in their new environment. No, the speakers aren’t where the audiophile in me would have them, and they aren’t where my wife might prefer them. We compromised (as we all do so often in life). Trying not to overload myself during this time of enforced stay-at-home. So I’m picking one album/disc a day to sit and enjoy. Today, the @jeffrowland Design Group Continuum S2 integrated into my Magneplanar 1.7i speakers is taking this Chesky SACD by drummer Jimmy Cobb (of Kind Of Blue fame) and turning out some of the most beautiful music I’ve heard. Of course it helps when the recording is so painstakingly done as are all Chesky sessions. Cobb has the support here of Russell Malone on guitar, Roy Hargrove on trumpet/flugelhorn, and John Webber on bass. The musical selections are all ballads, that Cobb chose because he knows Hargrove loves ballad playing. So the music is slow, sensual, and perfect for winding down with. This album is part of Chesky’s “New York Sessions” series of SACD’s, so after you’ve sampled this one, you might want to explore the whole series.
