FOTD #060 : white cloud ears! (tremella fuciformis)
the white cloud ears fungus (also called snow fungus, snow ear, silver ear fungus & white jelly mushroom) is a parasitic fungus in the family tremellaceae. it is widespread, especially in the tropics, & grows on the dead branches of broadleaf trees !!
the big question : can i bite it??
yes :-) this fungus is edible (traditionally used in sweet dishes), has medicinal uses, & has history in asian beauty products.
t. fuciformis description :
"fruit bodies are gelatinous, watery white, up to 7.5 centimetres (3 inches) across (larger in cultivated specimens), & composed of thin but erect, seaweed-like, branching fronds, often crisped at the edges."

02/03/2024-Testwood Lakes
Pictures taken here today in this set are of; eyecatching Cormorants, a prepossessing female Marsh Harrier which I got an extraordinary view of flying over and putting up the waterfowl a special moment with a bird I love, magical scarlet elf cup mushrooms which I enjoyed seeing, beautiful views on a great time here, one of three Roe Deers I got excellent views of, mercury, Lapwing a key bird seen and heard with their pleasant "pee-wit" calls today and some smashing jelly ear or wood ear fungi it was sensational to see loads of on a tree near the scarlet elf cups I enjoyed seeing them my first ever. Other highlights here today were Shoveler, Gadwall, Greylag Goose, Oystercatcher, Great Crested Grebes, two Mute Swans fighting with another nearby which I could hear from the hide from the other side of the water the splashes and flaps strongly audible, amazing views of a wonderful Cetti's Warbler hearing their distinctive call well too, Ring-necked Parakeets, Stock Dove, male Bullfinch, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit and gorgeous daffodils and primroses.
