Day 13: Hasn’t Changed

Pairing: Mer Wolffe x Reader

Summary: A pearl brings you and an old lover back together and you aren’t letting him go this time.

Author’s Note: What? I totally got this in on time. It’s still the 13th in another time zone.

Warnings: I imply something 18+ happened off screen, but that’s about it.

Prompt: When he sold me the pearl, he said he stole it from a mermaid, and that I should watch my back from now on.

You swear you know that pearl from somewhere. It’s a beautiful blue pearl shimmering in the shop window and it’s being sold way too low of a price. And once the shopkeeper notices that you are looking at it, they drop the price even more. How could you refuse? You should have known it was way too good to be true.

Once the credits are exchanged, the shopkeeper quickly informs you he stole it from a mermaid and to watch your back from now on. The shop door is locked behind you as you are quickly pushed out the door.

You turn around and bang on the door, but you know that’s not gonna work. You groan, but head home for now with the blue pearl in your pocket. Nothing else you can do, but hope you can negotiate with an angry Mer.

The next day, you are back at work in the shipyards. You try not to think about the pearl in your pocket. You had thought about leaving it at home, but decided it was best to have it on you for whenever you ran into the Mer.

You pause from your work a moment to watch a group of Mer Troopers go by; with the continued push for stormtroopers, their armor was becoming rarer and rarer to see. It then finally clicked where you had seen the pearl when you saw the grey armor paint on their commander.

“Wolffe…” It had been over a year since you last saw him, but you knew that paint anywhere. Especially after spending almost three years together under General Plo Koon; you did repairs to make sure the battleship kept going until they got to the next port. It wasn’t till the end of the war that you got transferred out. Your hand sunk into your pocket and you rolled the pearl around. In fact, you remembered when the Jedi gave this to him.

You found him later that day in front of the jeweley store. His jaw tight as he glared up at the windows.

“You looking for something, Commander?” You asked stopping beside him. Wolffe stiffens at first when he hears your voice before relaxing.

“Something stolen. What do you want Corvid?” While he might sound gruff, you can hear the fondness underneath. You had missed bantering with him too.

“Oh?” You slowly pull out the pearl. “This what you’re looking for?” Both eyes widen as he stares down in shock.

“How did you…?”

“I saw it in the store the other day. And he might have mentioned he stole it from a mermaid.” Wolffe lets out an annoyed snort as he took the pearl. He gives it a quick sad glance before tucking it away.

“Of course, he did.” He takes a deep breath before looking at you straight in the eyes. “Thank you.”

“Always.” You say a little too breathlessly for your liking before shaking your head. “Wolffe, I…”

“Not right now.” Wolffe cuts you off and you glare at him.

“What do you mean not right now!? I haven’t seen you in a year. And you haven’t contacted me! I thought we…” He quickly puts his hands on your shoulder before angling his head. Your eyes dart to the side and you catch a quick glance of a T-K Trooper behind one of the buildings. Your stomach churns.

“Not now. But I promise soon.” Your ex whispers as a group of people passes you both by and he hurries off amid the crowd.

He lays in bed with you later that night with his chest to your back. You both lay there just enjoying the other’s company and warmth. Turns out words could wait a bit longer.

“I’m happy you’re back.” You meant that in more ways than one. He had acted so odd after the fall of the Jedi order.

“I’ve missed you.” He mumbles against your head and you smile. It’s quiet for a long moment after that. “But it wasn’t safe.”

“When has it ever been safe?” You grumble even though you know he’s right. With any massive governmental change, there was always instability.

“I’ve gotten mixed up in a lot recently.” He pauses for a long moment; his arm pulling you a little tighter against him. That at least explains why he was being watched. “I might have to leave soon. Will…”

“I’ll follow you anywhere that hasn’t changed.” You whisper, holding his arm close. You understood exactly what he was trying to convey with as few words as possible; they had to be careful just case. “But I expect a better explanation later.”

“Of course.” He sounds exasperated, but the soft chuckles give away his amusement.

Within two weeks, both of you and his men are gone without a trace.

So, I always wonder how much money 💸💸💸 King Maven Calore spent on Mare.

Disclaimer: I know Mare was not living her best life during her imprisonment, but it didn't stop Maven for spending a fortune on her.

First of all, her wardrobe. Mare is a prisoner, she should be wearing a potato sack, but NOOO, freaking gorgeous gowns that she wears almost everyday. Maven even made her wear expensive jeweley and gowns COVERED IN RUBIES. Like dude, we get it, you kinda like her, but chill with your wallet.

The fancy room she was imprisoned in, not a nasty, dusty, crusty ass dungeon. A FREAKING ELITE BEDROOM FIT WITH A FUNCTIONING BATHROOM, SO SHE COULD ELECTROCUTE HER GUARDS WHEN SHE IS BORED.

Oh and of course, THE PLATES, THE CERAMIC, THE FANCY CHINA THAT MARE ENJOYED CHUCKING ACROSS HER ROOM. EVEN IRIS NOTED THE SMALL FORTUNE MARE WASTED ON THOSE PLATES!!!

And let's not forget the labor cost. The people assigned to cook her meals, dress her up, heal her wounds and guard her (cause Mare is a handful). Like it cost SO MUCH TO KEEP HER HAS PRISONER AND WITH LITTLE REWARD. Maven didn't got much info about the Scarlet Guard, didn't got much newbloods and DIDN'T GOT ANY AFFECTION FROM HER.

Maven might be a cruel king, but he was a WHOLE ASS SUGAR DADDY with mommy and daddy issues.

Just..damn. RIP Maven's wallet. Should have spent some on a therapist.

Based on the wiki, I'm gathering that the name Pyrope ("fire eye") was suggested by MSPA Forum user Dragoshi in reference to Terezi's distinctive red sunglasses (since we hadn't seen her equally red eyes yet) -- Hussie naming Terezi's (sort of) parent after the stone's supercategory could be a play on the meaning of "parent" in the context of tree data structures? Or it's just simple association, idk.

There's an almadine mention in "the Rift's Carbuncle", one of Gl'bgolyb's monikers, but I tend to view this and Terezi's stuff (and glowing jeweley robot eyes) as part of a broader Red Sun motif. The significance of garnets is probably just as an abundant source of specific red rocks
