A Dance of Lions & Wolves
The sounds of screams and the horrific deaths of his family has plagued the Lord of Winterfell. The Old Gods speak to him, while the jaws of Winter ravage his precious Northern Lands, depleting its food stores, killing both low and high born, and with little resources to plant crops and feed his people, Eddard is forced to turn to the South for help, writing to the Reach, Stormlands, Crowlands, Riverlands, and Westerlands. Only one responds, with terms and conditions.
After having prophetic dreams of the fall and ruin of his house, Tywin Lannister has remarried after the death of his second son, and heir Tyrion Lannister, with hopes of having more children to replace Tyrion and kingsguard Jamie Lannister, and prevent the foreseen downfall of his house. In order to restore the pride lands, the lions must work with the wolves to heal their respected territory, however the Stags, Lionesses, Vipers, Krakens, and Dragons are also awakening, threatening the world the Wolves and Lions wish to build. Together, Lion and Wolf must lead the charge and protect their legacy from burning.

285 AC, Westerlands
Prologue: The Raven
Children's laughter brought the Warden of the West from his desk, abandoning the newest correspondence from the wintery wilds of the North, to the open window of his study. Tywin Lannister watched his twins play in their mother’s garden at Casterly Rock with their cousins. He watched with narrowed eyes as the golden haired cubs ran after one another. From what he could hear from his study, the children were playing knights and ladies.
“Fair maiden! I, Lancle Lannister, son of Keven Lannister, am here to rescue you from the tower!” He bowed and little Lancel, ran towards their makeshift tower, wood sword in his hand, as he “charged” the ferocious beast that was a dragon guarding his own daughter, Jeyne. His son, Damon, was the dragon, he wore the costume his twin made him in her lessons with the Septa’s, and he roared and slashed at Lancel.
“Fight me if you dare, little knight, but know, no one has defeated me in all these years I’ve guarded this tower!” Damon slashed his faux claws and Lancel jumped back, as they began their duel. Cousins “fought” while Jeyne shouted encouragement at her cousin Lancel.
“Be careful Ser! Watch from the dragon’s talons!” Jeyne shouted.
Man and beast danced, all while Tywin’s goodsister Dorna and sister Genna, watched the children from their pergola. He watched as his son and nephew fought until Lancel dealt the killing blow. Damon shouted and fell to the ground, making “dying sounds'' as his cousin stood over his dying body, smirking while Jeyne and Twyin’s sisters clapped, applauding the brave knight. Lancel bowed in his aunt and mother’s direction, before climbing the tower to rescue Jeyne.
“Oh Ser! How brave you were, defeating the dangerous dragon! How ever can I thank you?” She played up her role as the defenseless maiden. “My lady, only your favor will do, so I can show the world that I deserved the favor of Lady Lannister!” Jeyne giggled, placing her favor of westerlands roses and primrose, on her cousin’s wood sword.
Damon jumped up from the ground, clapping his hands as he jogged over to his twin and cousin. “You’ve been practicing your sword play cousin!”
“Yes. Yes I have. Was I better than last time?” Lancel questioned, insecurity filling his light green eyes. “Drastically better than last time! This time I had to avoid your blows and your footwork was more solid!” Damon complemented. Lancel thanked his cousin, together, he and Jeyne helped Damon out of the dragon costume. Free from the sweaty fabric, he shook his damp auburn hair. Jeyne shouted as the droplets of sweat splashed in her face.
“Sorry, Jeyne,” He blushed, scratching his head.
“Jeyne, darling, come here,” A tall woman, with auburn hair, wearing a light blue gown with primroses on her hem, walked towards Jeyne, a white handkerchief in her pale, slender hands. She bent down, wiping Jeyne’s face, brushing away her twin’s sweat.
“Thank you, mumma,”
Tywin looked away from the scene, and went back to his desk, leaving his new wife and their twins behind to focus on the letter in front of him. The North, Eddard Stark was writing about possible increase in trading. The winters were brutal and after the Rebellion, everyone in the North was replenishing their storages. However, it was impossible to feed the entire North while creating sufficient storage. Lord Eddard’s people were dying, and he was requesting help. Tywin laced his fingers together, staring long and hard at the Northern Lord’s blocky script. He thought of all the advantages this opportunity brought. Tywin had always wanted to infiltrate the North, and now with a new King in King's Landing, he was free to do whatever he pleased without an paranoid old fool mistaking his actions for treason and shouting for his and his family's heads on a chopping block.
He could finally reach his vision of having a Lannister in all seven parts of the Seven Kingdoms. Winterfell was known to be an impregnable castle, like his beloved Casterly Rock, and from what he could recall from his visit when he was but a boy, the castle was strong and has the potential to be another Rock, with thousands of men on guard. With his influence, Tywin could usher in a new reign of Cregan Stark with Eddard Stark. He could turn the second son into a formidable Lord like his ancestor. Afterall, the man was in mourning. Losing a son in the winter. Tywin huffed out a laugh, it seemed he held the key to Eddard Stark's salvation, or destruction.
With another look at the window where his family played and laughed, Tywin wrote a reply to the North, sealing Lords of winter fates.

i love how ugly grrm gets. he isn’t afraid to have ugly characters that wouldn’t be physically desirable. so many books describe the main character as this other worldly beauty that is perfect in every way. it has always pissed me off and made it feel so unauthentic. but in asoiaf we have these objectively ugly people or these people who are objectively beautiful that become deformed or maimed in some way AND THEY DONT LOSE ANY OF THEIR WORTH BECAUSE OF IT.
like jaime for example his one purpose in life is to fight and when he loses his hand he loses his purpose but it sends him on a different path of self discovery. his fighting was a big part of him but there is so much more to him that was overlooked because of his fighting.
brienne is ugly and so what she is quite literally hands down one of the greatest people in the entire story. she is strong and honorable and will do what she has to do no matter how hard but she is still kind. despite all the shit that has been thrown at her that would make anyone bitter and cruel she still has an unrelenting compassion for everyone she meets. and that’s not a weakness of hers it’s one of her greatest strengths.
jeyne and theon who feel less than human who have been humiliated and defiled still get a redemption arc because they are worthy of one no matter what. they are physically and mentally destroyed but they’re gonna make it through.
their “ugliness” is what makes them such amazing authentic characters.
i saw a post about this that i can no longer find but it was something along the lines of how jon went to save arya at winterfell no matter how much she had changed. he knew she had been through hell and was definitely not the same little girl he knew but he doesn’t care because no matter how “ruined” society would brand her she was still his little sister arya.
edit:

this goes perfectly with what i said above

i'd been wondering how sansa and jeyne poole's insulting names for the redwyne twins made it to cersei's pov in feast, and now i believe i've found the answer.
[Petyr Baelish, in the council meeting where he volunteered to treat with the Tyrells:]"I'll include Horror and Slobber in my party, and send them on to their lord father afterward [...]" -Tyrion VIII, aCoK
normally i'd find any instance of littlefinger creeping on sansa to be well, creepy and skeevy, and (given future events) any association of him with jeyne is especially revolting and repugnant, but there is something funny about imagining him lurking around them at some point in agot (probably during the tourney festivities), overhearing their disparaging talk of the redwyne twins and deciding he had to steal those names for himself to show off his wit with queen and council. maybe baelish's dislike of his own nickname means part of his revenge at the world at large means he can't resist any mean names for other more blue-blooded nobles he can find, and in this case he had to learn these nicknames from two 11yo girls. this pales in comparison to all his later crimes against those girls, though it does mean cersei likely thinks the names came straight from littlefinger, never knowing the true source she has to thank for shittalking the redwynes like that.

Fashion in the world of ice and fire
One of my favorite things about A Song of Ice and Fire is the elaborate world it presents, and so I wanted to reflect these different cultures through an overview of fashion in each region!! I tried to make each place distinctive- while also showing how styles flow between regions.

Crowns, Tiaras, Diadems of A Song of Ice and Fire
Tumblr media
This is a comprehensive list of every crown, tiara and diadem mentioned in the entirety of A Song of Ice and Fire and related books, because I'm insane. This is a very long post so enjoy.
The Rights of Inheritance
Tumblr media
Royal crowns, Tiaras and Diadems are usually inherited by the next monarch and destributed at their whim. Certain crowns in canon are symbolically important, lending credence to a claimant's claim to the throne. During the Dance, the crown of Aegon the Conqueror became of of two relics to confirm Aegon II's right to the throne throne at a time it was disputed. Even during the short Regency of Aegon II, Prince Aemond wore the circlet as an affirmation of his power.
The Fate of Royal Jewelry
Tumblr media
Many of the Crowns on this list haven't been seen in a while. I suspect as in royal jewels in real life, many of the pieces have either been sold off to afford wars or lavish livestyles or have been broken down to create newer pieces. It may be that the families are still in possession of these crowns but they have taken a new shape.
Crowns of Westeros
Tumblr media
Crown of Aegon I - The Conqueror's Crown
The Conqueror's Crown is an open circlet of Valyrian Steel and large square cut rubies. Aegon's crown was of the trappings of legitimacy for House Targaryen, worn by some of her more martial minded Kings. It's notable wearers are Aegon I, Aenys I, Maegor I, Aegon II, Daeron I "The Young Dragon" and unusually, Prince Aemond for a period during the Dance. The crown was lost in Dorne during the campaign of The Young Dragon.
Crown of Aenys I
The crown of Aenys I was a large, ornate circlet of yellow gold inlaid with pearls and jade. It also depicted the faces of each of the Seven gods. Aenys' crown was worn by Aenys and later, for a time, his son Jaehaerys I. It's current whereabouts are unknown, likely broken up for the gems or kept in storage.
Crown of Jaehaerys I
The crown of Jaehaerys I is an open circlet of gold set with seven coloured jewels to represent the Seven and the Seven Kingdoms. This crown was worn by Jaehaerys I, Viserys I, Rhaenyra I. It was sold by Rhaenyra during the Dance to pay for passage abroad a ship.

The crown of Baelor was a crown of vines and flowers.
Crown of Aegon IV
The crown of Aegon IV was a large circlet of red gold with each point fashioned into the likeness of a dragon with eyes of gemstones. It was worn by Aegon IV, Daeron II, Aerys I and Aerys II. Current whereabouts unknown, very likely to have been destroyed after Robert's Rebellion.
Crown of Maekar I
The crown of Maekar was described as "warlike". It is an open circlet of red gold with large points of sharp black iron. Notable wearers were Maekar and Jaehaerys II. The whereabouts of this crown are unknown, likely in storage at the Red Keep.

god... imagine if cersei knew that jeyne westerling's great-grandmother was maggy the frog (i don't think there's any evidence that she knows or even gives a damn about the westerlings, but if she knew that they were descended from maggy the frog she WOULD). forget stannis and renly, forget margaery, jeyne is now public enemy #1. ymbq CONFIRMED, at least in cersei's mind. she goes to tywin like we gotta blow the starks off the map and he's like don't worry i got it under control, the young wolf will be dead soon. and she's like i don't care about him i need to kill his WIFE!!!

If this is how Sansa treats her best friend, who would want to be her friend?
She chose a simple dress of dark grey wool, plainly cut but richly embroidered around the collar and sleeves. Her fingers felt thick and clumsy as she struggled with the silver fastenings without the benefit of servants. Jeyne Poole had been confined with her, but Jeyne was useless. Her face was puffy from all her crying, and she could not seem to stop sobbing about her father.
"I'm certain your father is well," Sansa told her when she had finally gotten the dress buttoned right. "I'll ask the queen to let you see him." She thought that kindness might lift Jeyne's spirits, but the other girl just looked at her with red, swollen eyes and began to cry all the harder. She was such a child.
It's funny to me that Sansa thinks everyone else is being childish and immature, when really she is too. She just lacks any ability to self-reflect because she thinks she's the bomb diggity.
Then you have her betraying her family for her beloved Prince Joffrey and Queen Cersei.
"How well I know that, child," Cersei said, her voice so kind and sweet. "Why else should you have come to me and told me of your father's plan to send you away from us, if not for love?"
You really have to wonder how Sansa is this oblivious to reality? How - after everything they have done so far - can she trust Queen Cersei and Prince Joffrey, especially over her own father? And people think she's going to turn into a political mastermind 🤣🤣
And then her not even giving two hoots about her little sister.
It was not until later that night, as she was drifting off to sleep, that Sansa realized she had forgotten to ask about her sister.
