The story of how I got into BTS

I got into bts before the pandemic and right after I got out of rehab. I honestly think that played a major part, because even though I had been discharged, I still wasn’t in a good headspace. Also, army has always said that you discover them when you need them.

Now for the exact way I discovered them. I’ve always been a huge doll collector, but I mainly collect Barbies. So, when the dolls came out I was super excited because Mattel hardly ever came out with Asian male dolls. I was hoping to get a couple for some customization projects.

The first doll I got was Taehyung because I liked his outfit and cotton candy colored hair. Inevitably, I got curious about them and wanted to know what their deal was. So I watched the Idol mv which was what the dolls were based off. I am gonna be honest, I didn’t dig the song too much.

When I told my sister, though, she got super excited. She’s a k-pop listener, and likes a lot of groups. When I told her I had the Taehyung doll, she told me I had to watch the Singularity mv and so I did. I actually dug that song a whole lot more and wanted to see more mvs. From there I watched DNA. My sister said I’d like it just cause Taehyung looked really good in it.

When I watched DNA, I was like something clicked. In that moment it felt like that was the greatest song I had ever listened to. At first, it felt like it was the only song I could listen to. Eventually, I moved on to the Save Me mv.

And holy moly.. that one rewired my brain. It was also when I discovered the man who ultimately became my bias. Something about Hoseok’s verse in Save Me just hit different.

After that, it honestly became a blur of what mvs and what live performances I watched. One thing was for sure. My eyes were always drawn to the one who just danced with incredible flow and precision. The one who radiated with much energy and whose smile always shone brightly.

One hilarious memory I have is when I told someone I got into them through the dolls, and their response was “You entered the magic shop through the vents” and now that lives rent free in my head.

It might be super weird to say, but I’m honestly glad I didn’t die those times that I tried, otherwise I would have never known about these seven incredible men.

Ahh, Hobi's stage was amazing, I'm speechless. He has so much confidence these days, it's like he's really comfortable in his own skin and that's something I really love to see.

A few pjms / Jimin biased always seem a bit surprised by this so I just want to make this clear - all solos and a good part of armys who are diet solos legit despise Jimin more than any other member ever. Part of it is because this fandom is made of shippers but that's not all of it. Its because pre chapter two every dumbfck army had a totem pole of popularity for the members and they always had Jimin third. Then they had a totem pole for talent and god knows where they put Jimin on that one - it was near the bottom for sure. And then finally they had their totem poles for solo ambition / capability and they all placed Jimin dead last as the member who cared the least about a solo career and the one who would be the least artistically involved in his solo work

Chapter 2 has finally come and every other member has performed almost exactly as they were expected to except Tae who underperformed a fair bit and Jungkook being a bit more of a sellout than expected. But apart from that there's not a single member who didn't fall in line with armys imagination save one of course - Jimin.

This is why Jimins achievements rile them up so much because they still look at everything he does through this lens. They won't consider that they severely underestimated him or that talent and good music can make that much of a difference because what does that say about their fave who's still in the pits of obscurity or needing millions of dollars of payola to achieve the same thing? Aren't rap line supposed the geniuses that built BTS? Isn't Taehyung supposed to be the most popular kpop idol ever? Isn't Jungkook supposed to be the golden maknae who is positioned as the successor and true inheritor of BTS' legacy? What's Jimin doing at the top of the charts everytime he releases anything? Why's his solo music loved by most casual fans who dip their toes into BTS' solo ventures? Isn't he just Jimin who's only good at dancing but still not the best dancer from BTS?

This is what they all think. They're wrong but I swear this is what each and every one of them thinks which is why they'll all swallow bot farms and thirty versions and any other bs that gets thrown around because they do not want to accept reality - that Jimin is and has always been one of the biggest reasons BTS got as big as it did and that him not bragging about his talents or hyping his own image is just him being (a little too) humble and not an accurate reflection of the truth. Truth is his solo music has always done extremely well, truth is his dance has always been more compelling to watch than jhopes, truth is JK sounds like every run of the mill sm male kpop idol whose stans will brag about a voice that nobody listens to. But these are not the narratives that have run through this fandom for years like a disease

I don’t think any pjm is surprised at armys behavior because them treating jimin like an outsider has been a thing for a while now. It’s just the natural disbelief that armys still have the gall to be peddling “OT7” and believing that solos are the worst people ever when a good chunk of them clearly have very strong feelings of resentment towards him.

JIMIN'S HYPE BOY

I often think about the Festa 2022 dinner where Jimin talks about the new songs he was preparing for his album.(It was June'22 and Jimin had already started working on Face)

Jhope said he had listened to his songs and we had Jungkook pouting and complaining to Jimin for not sending his songs. Of course, all in good fun. But there was a hint of genuineness in JK's complaint, lol. And RM didn't miss this chance to say "jhope is #1 to jimin" or something along those lines. Which is true.

I have a theory why Jimin doesn't seek out JK for feedback on his work. Simply because Jungkook is heavily biased. I don't think Jungkook would critically criticise Jimin's work with brutal honesty. There are so many instances that will backup this theory:-

1. JK always having Jimin's back when members tease Jimin. He teases Jimin too, but when members do it, he chooses to take Jimin's side. It's always a reassuring touch, or just straight up defending.

2. Praises Jimin's cooking even when other members express distaste. Instances found in BV and Run BTS.

3. He even liked the cucumber drink Jimin got for everyone which others said was terrible (including Jimin). Now that could be JK's personal taste too.

Jungkook is very aware and conscious of Jimin's insecurities, I feel. And he knows how hard Jimin works. He doesn't have the heart to tell him where he lacks.

Meanwhile, jhope, rm or suga would do a better job of giving Jimin positive criticism and honest feedback.

Jikook have the Most Dance Chemistry Bar None

I’ll admit, I do pick my battles sometimes on social media. And one of those battles that I will always die on is that Jikook chemistry on stage dancing is UNMATCHED not just in BTS btw but the entire industry. No one does it like they do. There is a mildly harmless y/n Jimin and JHope biased account that I follow. I say she’s a y/n because I think she has a crush on Jimin and thinks he’s bf material (she’s not wrong) but she doesn’t do or say anything overtly weird. Ya’ll know y/n’s are right up there with tkk for me. She makes mostly cute edits of Jimin. But she just lost me and I couldn’t scroll past it without engaging. She posted a kind of suggestive partner dance between two dancers with intricate choreo and claimed that this would be perfect for JiHope and that their chemistry is unmatched. Now, J-Hope is an EXCELLENT dancer. He’s one of the main dancers of BTS for a reason. His technique level is insane and he is a powerhouse on stage. But his chemistry with Jimin unmatched?? Really?? If his chemistry with Jimin dancing is so palpable why didn’t he lift Jimin in the pas de deux for MMA 2020 Black Swan? Tell me, I’m waiting. If his chemistry with J-Hope is unmatched then why haven’t they done duo stages like Black and White? Why didn’t he do the Own It choreo with Jimin? I think this girl is an aspiring dancer or something, and while we love that and we love having biases, sometimes you have to be subjective. JiHope doesn’t even hold a candle to the level of Jikook when it comes to dancing on stage. I don’t have to take dance lessons to know that. I cited my sources with no response other than agree to disagree. I can’t help but feel like this is another instance of Jikookphobia and downplaying their chemistry. I’ll leave you with this masterpiece to ponder. Oh and keep in mind that chemistry aside, Jungkook was the ONLY member that could technically do this lift. Oh and fun side note, it’s official that I will be getting a tattoo on my trip to Korea this summer done by none other than PolyC and it may be inspired by a certain event that happened during this stage. 🤭 Sorry, couldn’t help but share because I’m so excited. And if you are one of those that wants to act like getting a tattoo by PolyC is an invasion of privacy, then drink some water, touch some grass, and grow up. I’ll gladly block you.

It was already known Tae is a smoker before i joined the Fandom. Then Yoongi literally included scenes in MV. JKis the only member I was surprised because he used to preach about anti smoking. Wasn't it easy to guess that Joon smokes ? 😭 I mean if it not for the cig, he once posted a cig burnt hole in his pants and then slipped a lighter in a live 🤷‍♀️

Now there's only Jin, Jimin, jhope left. I'm a JM biased... n yes, we haven't seen anything which connects Jimin to smoking till now, except his partner is a smoker 🤡 ? BUT IF one day something comes up I hope Jimin stans are level headed enough to not to overreact and embarrass everyone.

i went and took a quick gander at the jkk tag just to keep up and saw that there was a jkk blog who has stopped shipping/believing in jkk bc they’ve come to the conclusion that all of the members have the same level of intimacy. for example they said that you could swap jimin or jhope in for tae in jk’s recent bangtan bomb and the interaction would be about the same. saying other members would all interact w eo like that. they said they’ve come to the realization that essentially there is nothing more special or intimate about jkk over any other pairing and they are all the same. we only see intimacy and something different/special because of our own preferences.

Well, I don’t really agree with their take… though I do applaud them for seeing sense finally on Jk and Jm not being together.

I think all member pairings have their own way of interacting. They all have different characters which come with different levels of comfort and intimacy. The hyungs are generally less inclined to be physically close, while maknae line are all cuddlebunnies. Jm is the most physically affectionate one in BTS in my opinion, which is why you will find many instances of even Yoongi being soft with him (Yoongi being way way less comfortable with cuddles). Namjoon is very much the type to be affectionate when he sees someone struggle, but in a subtle way and not necessarily with a huge long hug. To me it’s not as though you can just swap any member for another, Jm and Jk are different from Jm and Jin for instance and no one moment will have played out exactly the same with another member. But it’s in the same way as how me and my siblings all have different ways of interacting. We all know each other well, but all pairs are different just because the characters differ.

So how are Tae and Jk different to me? I’ve written about this a lot, so you can search my tags for more if you want. But in general, Tae and Jk are more soft with each other, it’s very subtle (and never highlighted), but to me there’s an intimacy that’s closer and more familiar and more automatic than it is between them and the others. It’s hard to show in clips or pics, just because of the fast amount of footage. To me it manifests in their soft touches, the many times their eyes flick to the other in silent communication, the duration of physical moments, the anticipation in their bodies when they are close.

Earlier of August, I got to see my biases getting on the stage singing one of their collaboration song called 'strange' . It's on D-2 album belong to yoongi. It feel like one of my dream come true to witness this 13 years and counting on friendship show their magic. Namjoon who I've been admired even before become an army. Yoongi who try to get my attention away from namjoon 😝 with his piano. And of course made me a rapline crumbs with jhope as their bestie.

These two who started it all. The foundation of bts. I'm not discredit the other 5 half of them, but just to appreciation post for these two for being a seasoned bighit employees. I know they are pretty underrated duo compare to others. I think it's just because they both showing love to each other with different ways. They seem just casually support each other but people know how much they care and love towards each other with gestures, words and expression.

I know art is subjective and it's fine to like certain styles or dancers more. I'm just saying that even when I was a ymk biased army, I had no idea for a long time that Hobi was in any way involved in that dance battle with block b. Every fancam or cut I saw of that was of Jimin. Same goes with Jimin's fan dance. When I was a baby army it took me ages to realise it was a group song with 3J opening and not some solo Jimin dance from a BTS concert. That when you watch a video with iconic moves from BTS, it's going to be 90 percent Jimin or a pair choreo involving Jimin.

And then this fandom has the nerve to act like saying Jimin is the superior dancer in BTS is a slight against Jhope. But not the other way around right? The nonsense we have to sit through....

If armys truly thought hobi was the better dancer, then it’d be the easiest thing in the world to highlight more of his performances over Jimin’s but they don’t. They know who the real draw is. Armys just don’t like giving Jimin his dues.
