Can you suggest me some good bromance dramas with crime and investigation as main genre?

I watched S.C.I Mystery, Killer and Healer, The Devil Judge, Under the Skin and Sleuth of ming dynasty.

Can you suggest me some good bromance dramas? Chinese dramas are more preferred. But korean ones are also fine.

Hello! Oh, you absolutely came to the right blog about this particular question, as crime dramas are what I mainly watch!

As I can see, you've watched pretty much all the dramas that I would recommend for good bromance and good crime dramas. But I do have some others to recommend.

Cdramas

Master, Wait a Moment is a good one, though it is subbed by MangoTV so the subs are kinda...iffy. But if you can watch it without subs, then you should be golden. Love the bromance and it has a good overarching case, which we like. You will find one of the female love interests insufferable and unfortunately, that's the only downside but it's okay, you can just skip over her scenes if you really can't stand her.

Another good one is Psych-Hunter. Again, you will find the female lead insufferable (if you took her out the drama would still literally be the same, just minus all the dumb romance plot they had to throw in to pass censorship). But again, it's okay because the cases are interesting and the chemistry between the main leads is great. The ending though will fuck with your brain a little, so just be prepared for that.

Now, this isn't a bromance, but Couple of Mirrors is glorious. Supposedly they're working on a season 2 (because the ending of season one is very open ended) but oh man, oh man will you love these girlies. You'll hate Youyi's husband though and want to kill him every time he opens his mouth so...yeah. He's insufferable and I hate him.

Checkmate is another good bromance. If you've seen My Roommate is a Detective, then you'll know that it's the same main leads from that drama in this drama. I've never actually finished MRIAD because I could not stand the female lead (no seriously, I got through ten episodes before I had to drop it because of how much I hated the female lead) but I did finish Checkmate and I loved it. A few of the cases are based off of Agatha Christie's books, like Murder on the Orient Express. It's really good, good overarching case, lots of twists that you don't see coming...I enjoyed this one a lot

A League of Nobleman is also another good bromance, it's very interesting how the leads are tied together and the cases are quite fascinating.

Jiang Hu Shao Nian Jue is a short drama, with like 20 eps and each episode is short but if you like the dynamic of Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou or Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao, then you'll really enjoy this one

Pledge of Allegiance is another good bromance (there's like romance between one of the leads and the female lead but like...there's more chemistry between the main leads so bromance) but whoo boy will this one fuck you up a little. But it's got a lot of whump if you like that. And the cases are interesting

Desire Catcher is a lot like S.C.I. but darker. Ho my god, is this drama darker. But again, good overarching cases, the bromance is *chef's kiss* but be warned, there are two episodes that have sexual assault (not seen of course but you know what's going on in those scenes) and there's a scene where a character slit their wrist (on dramacool it's blurred but you can still see it and apparently on youku, it's not blurred at all) so just be warned. But would definitely recommend this one

Order of the Sommelier isn't a case drama, per se, but oh my god the bromance is so good. Again, if you like the dynamic of Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi, that's what these two give off and I was living for it while watching it. (Episodes are really short, so there's a complied movie on youtube that's like four hours long. However, you're going to have to go to either dramacool or kisskh to watch the last epi because the movie doesn't have an important scene towards the end)

Original Sin is another good drama to watch. The ending is open because we were supposed to have a season 2 but I don't know if that's ever going to happen. I fucking hope it does but...*sigh*

I don't know if you like jdramas but if you do, here are some good ones

Doubles (I always recommend this one. It's one of my favorites)

Nippon Noir: Detective Y’s Rebellion (a little trippy, it fucks with your head but it's good and the cases are interesting)

Sherlock: The Untold Stories (Can't go wrong with a Sherlock adaptation. This is probably my favorite adaption of Sherlock, just because I really like the actors)

Chiisana Kyojin (very police procedural, corruption, the usual in most japanese crime/police dramas)

Aozora No Tomago (good/interesting crime drama, we love the bromance between the leads...it's a good one)

Where Do I Come From? (Boku wa Doko Kara) (if you like yakuza, this one is also a good one. And while this is like a crime drama, sort of, you're really more focused on the leads)

Rinshou Hanzai Gakusha Himura Hideo no Suiri and Rinshou Hanzai Gakusha Himura Hideo no Suiri SP (I really enjoyed these and I think you will too)

(These three are mainly just crime/cold case dramas. No bromance but the cases are interesting)

BG: Personal Bodyguard

(These two aren't crime dramas, per se, but the cases they take are interesting and the two leads are great. One of the leads is a main from Rinshou Hanazai Gakusha Himura Hideo no Suiri)

The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window (this one is based off of a manga and it's great. Love the actors and love the bromance (even though the manga/anime is BL)

Rasen no Meikyu: DNA Kagaku Sosa (a very science based crime drama but we love the leads and they argue like an old married couple. I think you'll enjoy it)

Bokura no Shokutaku (Not a crime drama, but the sweetest BL you will ever watch, if you haven't watched it already)

Kdramas

Missing Noir M (A good crime drama, open ending, cases are dark and a little fucked up but still good)

Tell Me What You Saw (this drama is dark and also fucked up, no bromance but the cases are good but do not watch this at night, it will fuck you up)

The Good Detective (S1&S2) oh I love the drama. It's a really good case drama and there is some bromance there. Second season is a lot more fucked up than season 1 but season 1 is still pretty angsty. But highly recommend

Beyond Evil (you need to watch this one. Need to. It's a must. It will fuck with your head and you will cry at the end but you will have been so glad you watched this)

Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (cute, short BL. Definitely good)

The Guest (good drama, very dark, would not recommend watching at night if you don't like horror but the bromance is good)

Color Rush (another good BL)

You Make Me Dance (a BL that made me cry so...it's a good BL)

The Veil (no bromance but it's a great action/case drama. Will fuck with your head a little but I still recommend it)

Chimera (A mixture of the Devil Judge and Killer and Healer. Definitely something to watch)

Tinted With You (a really sweet BL)

Bad and Crazy (great case drama and great bromance)

Through the Darkness (I haven't finished the last 4 eps (i need to) but from what I've seen so far, I really enjoyed it. But holy shit, it's dark. It's dark. It's fucked up. You need to watch this during the day time do not watch it at night)

This is a great drama, love the bromance between the leads but again, it's dark. It's probably one of the darker dramas, up there with Tell Me What You Saw, Desire Catcher, and Through the Darkness. This isn't a drama you should watch at night because it's gruesome. And violent. But oh my god, it's so good

Ahhh, I got absolutely unhinged and feral when Jin Da Cheng arrested Chen Yuzhi for opium. I seriously despised Da Cheng for awhile when our soft doctor encountered such a disturbing situation (but of course, that was my first viewing, now my attitude for Jin DaCheng is different; I love that man!) But yeah, that moment was so nerve-wracking, plus Jiang Yuelou did all those things to Da Cheng just to save Yuzhi. Yuelou made it abundantly obvious that no one is ever allowed to touch Yuzhi! <333

If this is the first time you've heard of this magnificent tragedy set in early 20th century China, ravaged by the scourge of opium introduced by the British in the wake of the Opium Wars, then take these few minutes to read this review and be convinced to watch it. The two protagonists both want the good of the people of the city of Jingcheng, but each achieves their goal in different ways. Everything seems to oppose them at first sight, yet they will soon find themselves working together to foil a terrible political plot to bring down the city in the hands of the country's biggest opium trafficker.

Jiang Yuelou, a policeman, and Chen Yuzhi, a renowned doctor in the city, meet in a rather brutal way, one ending up behind bars for being suspected of collusion with the traffickers by the other. From there, everything goes wrong! The doctor's younger sister suddenly disappears while he is in prison, and the police fail to catch the head of the opium ring in Jingcheng. After a trip to Hong Kong, the two young men become allies, and then friends, and realise that the ring is much bigger than they thought. Deciding to put a definitive end to this evil that is ravaging so many lives, they plunge into the heart of the problem, putting their lives on the line to discover the one behind it all, San Ye.

Between betrayals and unacknowledged feelings, the plot, rather banal at first, quickly develops, creating a complexity that makes you want to go all the way to the end to find out the final word. Filled with action, murder, and manipulation of all kinds, you will quickly find yourself thrown from crime scenes to hostage situations, from chases to plot twists. The numerous characters of the series, their diversity, and their always very well-worked-out stories make this series a little marvel whose condensed emotions are appreciated. If the tendency is rather tragic, the relationships between each of them bring a great sweetness and a particular touch of sensitivity to this weighty story.

One of the strong points of this drama is the evolution of its characters. Each episode plunges us a little more into their psychology, past, and apprehensions. As endearing as enjoyable, it quickly becomes difficult to face the numerous deaths that precipitate a little more the tragic end of this drama. A dramatic plunge into a completely exotic universe thanks to the perfectly realised immersion in China at the beginning of the last century gives this picture a little bit extra to make it a collector's item worth seeing. me, every time i have to explain to someone that Killer and Healer is INDEED A LOVE STORY and just because there are no explicit kisses or confessions doesn’t mean that this whole story isn’t built on a romance or romantic foundation. and that the reason why it is all butchered up to the point where the final aired episodes don’t have the cut/trimmed scenes is because of the usual--c*nsorship--but also the reason why it’s not as popular is due to mgtv’s poor management and lack of promotions and cheapskate ways and also that Republican Era dramas in general tend not to do well with international viewers. And the fact that this is an original script not based on any BL novel makes people scrutinize this drama even further despite that it’s quite obviously a love story even based on the title alone because the title is called “ 恨君不似江楼月” which is based on poem of high romantic connotations and imagery and at one point one of the characters recite this to the other man and--

Hi! I'm with Au hadcanon again. Dying in Chen Yuzhi's arms, Wang Meng told him that he wanted to be brothers with him in the next life. And his wish is fulfilled. Our days. Wang Meng wakes up in the hospital and learns some news. Firstly, he is alive and now the 21st century. Secondly, he's a cop in the drug squad/Wang Meng laughed at such irony for a long time/. Thirdly, his mother is alive and a very cheerful old lady who can easily chase him with a broom if she does not like something in her son's behavior. Wang Meng is discharged from the hospital and at home his mother says that his cousin and younger sister will arrive soon, their house is not ready yet and therefore they will stay with them for a while. Wang Meng grumbles, but agrees. He is happy that his mother is alive. On the day when the guests are due to arrive, Wang Meng goes to the train station to meet the guests. And imagine his shock when his cousin turned out to be Chen Yuzhi. The former drug dealer remembered his dying wish and thinks that fate spoils him too much. Yuzhi does not remember anything about his past life, but this does not prevent him from winning friendship with Wang Meng again. Keing immediately won the older man's heart, he adored her. Wang Meng returns to the service and finds out that he was paired with Jian Yuelou to investigate the latest case. Wang Meng reminds himself not to kill him, even though Jian Yuelou infuriates the hell out of him. And naturally, Yuzhi and Yuelou get acquainted and immediately a spark flashes between them. Wang Meng is not happy with this, but seeing that the sarcastic and dangerous, even rabid Jian Yuelou becomes an affectionate cat with his brother, decides not to interfere in their relationship. But he will definitely warn Demon Jingchen that if he offends his little brother, then Wang Meng knows many ways to kill a person and hide a corpse.

As he laid dying, Wang Meng couldn’t help but wish that he and Chen Yuzhi were brothers in the next life

It was a good wish, a happy wish, and while he knew it could never come true…it never hurt to wish

So imagine his surprise when he opened his eyes to find himself in a hospital bed hooked up to a bunch of different machines

As he laid there, he blinked a few times, absolutely stunned as to how the fuck he was alive, when he heard soft sniffling from his bedside, making him look over to see his mother holding his hand and crying softly

“M-Mother?”

At his voice, his mother turned and when she saw that he was awake, she let out a gasp

“Mengzi!”

She then gave his hand a squeeze as she shook her head

“You…don’t scare your poor mother like that!  I thought you had died!”

‘I thought so too’

He then looked around the hospital room

“Where am I?  What year is it?”

His mother tsked softly

“Oh dear, you must’ve hit your head harder than the doctors thought.  You’re in the hospital.  It’s the yar 2023”

Wang Meng blinked; 2023?  Was he in…the future?!

‘What the hell?’

He then looked over at his mother, whom he still couldn’t believe was alive (she looked so much healthier and younger too), and gave her hand a squeeze

“Mother…how did I end up here?”

His mother looked at him before she hummed

“You were doing a narcotics raid when a crate of opium fell on you and knocked you unconscious.  You been in the hospital for a while”

Wang Meng frowned

“Narcotics raid?”

His mother frowned

“Don’t you remember?  You’re a police officer with the Narcotics Division”

Wang Meng’s eyes widened before he began to laugh, long and loud

Him?  A cop?  And one in the Narcotics Division no less?  Oh…oh the universe had a very funny sense of humor (i.e. fucked up)

As he laughed, his mother looked at him as though he was crazy before she smiled and shook her head

“I’ll get the doctor.  Hopefully you can be discharged soon”

She then released his hand and stood up, heading out of the room as he continued to laugh at the fucking irony that was now his life

A few days later, after he was released from the hospital, his mother told him that his cousins were coming to stay with them for a while, since their house wasn’t quite finished being renovated, and that he needed to pick them up from the train station

Wang Meng looked at her in surprise; he had cousins in this life?  Really?  Huh

But he agreed and headed to the train station, waiting on the platform for the passengers to depart, and as he scanned the passengers, his eyes widened in shock

Departing the train was fucking Chen Yuzhi and his little sister Keying

‘You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me’

He then walked over to them and cleared his throat

“Chen Yuzhi?”

Chen Yuzhi and Keying looked over at him before Keying giggled and let go of Chen Yuzhi’s hand, running over to him and throwing her arms around him in a hug

“Hi!”

Wang Meng looked down at her in surprise before he chuckled fondly and patted her head

“Hello Keying”

He then looked at Chen Yuzhi, who hummed

“So aunt sent you to pick us up?”

Wang Meng nodded, causing Chen Yuzhi to smile

“Always the filial son”

Wang Meng huffed

“Oh hush”

He then motioned with his head

“Come on, mother’s got food on the stove and she’s waiting for you”

Chen Yuzhi nodded as Wang Meng took Keying’s hand and they began walking, Wang Meng glancing over at Chen Yuzhi every now and then

He honestly couldn’t believe that Chen Yuzhi was his cousin in this life

The universe sure had a funny sense of humor

Well…he had wished for them to be like brothers in the next life so…he would take it

“Are you still a doctor?”

Chen Yuzhi looked over at him and smiled

“Of course.  How could you forget what your own cousin does for work?”

Wang Meng huffed

“Well excuse me, I don’t see you very often, so I don’t know if you’ve changed jobs or whatever”

Chen Yuzhi laughed before he hummed

“What else can I do?  Being a doctor is my calling”

Wang Meng hummed as Chen Yuzhi looked at him

“I heard you just got out of the hospital.  Are you okay?”

Wang Meng nodded

“I’m fine”

He was pretty sure Chen Yuzhi had no idea of their past life and that he literally died in his arms but that was okay…he didn’t want him to know that anyways

Chen Yuzhi then huffed

“You should be more careful”

Wang Meng chuckled; there was the Chen Yuzhi he knew

“I will, I will.  Now come on, the foods gonna get cold”

The next day, Wang Meng heads back to work, many of the officers coming to greet him

“Meng-ge!  You’re back”

Wang Meng hummed

“What’d I miss?”

One of the officers hummed

“Um…not much.  Chief Jiang is just finishing up the paperwork for the case”

Wang Meng paused

“Chief Jiang?  Jiang Yuelou?”

The officers nodded

“Yeah.  Your partner”

Wang Meng froze before he shut his eyes and took a deep breath

“Are you fucking kidding me?”

Now the universe was just being a dick

How could it stick him with Jiang Yue-fucking-lou of all people?!  Like, how dare it!

Just then, Jiang Yuelou came downstairs from his office and when he saw Wang Meng, he walked over to him and hummed

“You’re back?”

Wang Meng narrowed his eyes at him before he huffed

“Obviously”

Jiang Yuelou nodded

“Good.  Now come on, we’ve got another case”

He then walked past him, all of the officers looking at him with wide eyes

“But Chief Jiang, he literally just got here!  Shouldn’t he be on desk duty or something?!”

Jiang Yuelou paused before he looked back at them

“If he wants to go on desk duty, he’s more than welcome to…in a different unit”

He then turned and continued walking out of the department, Wang Meng and the police officers staring after him before Wang Meng huffed

“Still an ass, even in this life”

He then looked at the police officers and smiled

“If you’ll excuse me”

He then pushed past them and rushed after Jiang Yuelou, soon catching up to his “partner”

They continued to walk side by side in silence before Jiang Yuelou looked over at him

“How are you feeling?”

Wang Meng looked back at him in surprise before he nodded

“Fine”

Jiang Yuelou nodded

“Good”

Just then, a cry rang out, making them look up in surprise before they looked at each other and nodded

They then took off running and soon came upon Chen Yuzhi fighting against three men who were trying to take Keying away from him, causing Wang Meng’s eyes to widen

“Chen Yuzhi!”

At his name, Chen Yuzhi looked over and due to Wang Meng’s “distraction”, one of the men grabbed Keying and took off running, the other two following behind, causing Chen Yuzhi to turn and stare after them with wide eyes

“Keying!”

He then made to rush after them when Jiang Yuelou suddenly took off like a shot after them, causing Chen Yuzhi to stare in shock as Wang Meng ran over to him

“Yuzhi.  Are you okay?”

Chen Yuzhi looked at him and nodded

“I’m fine”

Wang Meng nodded before he motioned to the clinic

“You can explain what happened inside”

Chen Yuzhi looked over at his clinic before he looked back at Wang Meng

“But Keying—”

Wang Meng shook his head

“Don’t worry.  My partner’s got her.  He’ll bring her pack safely”

Chen Yuzhi raised an eyebrow

“That man is your partner?”

Wang Meng nodded

“Mm.  Now come on, let’s go inside and wait for them to come back”

Chen Yuzhi nodded before they headed inside, Chen Yuzhi sitting down on the edge of his desk as Wang Meng crossed his arms

“Who were those people?”

Chen Yuzhi shook his head

“I don’t know…they just came in and started eyeing Keying before one of them grabbed her.  I tried to stop them but—”

Wang Meng shook his head

“Don’t worry.  Like I said, Jiang Yuelou will get her back”

Meanwhile, Jiang Yuelou continued to chase after the kidnappers and Keying, soon tackling one of the men to the ground before quickly taking out the other one, leaving just the man holding Keying

As the man looked at his unconscious companions, Jiang Yuelou huffed and pulled out his badge, flashing it

“Police.  Release the girl and I might just spare you”

The man looked at him with wide eyes before he pulled out a pocket-knife and flicked it open, pressing it to Keying’s neck

“And if I don’t?”

Jiang Yuelou sighed and placed his badge back before he cracked his neck

“Then I’m not going to be so nice”

He then rushed forward, so fast that the kidnapper didn’t even have time to blink, and grabbed the man’s wrist, yanking it away from Keying’s neck before he punched the man in the nose

He then released the man’s wrist and watched as he fell to the ground, unconscious, before he looked down at Keying, who looked traumatized

“Are you alright?”

Keying looked up at him and whimpered, causing him to sigh softly before he knelt down before her and smiled softly

“Hey, you’re okay.  You’re okay.  You’re safe now”

Keying looked at him before she surged forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder as she let out a sob

Jiang Yuelou blinked before he gently wrapped his arms around her and pet her hair

“Oh, sweetheart.  You’re okay.  You’re okay, honey”

He continued to gently pet her hair before he pulled away and looked at her, gently wiping away her tears

“Come on.  Let’s get you back to the others”

Keying nodded and took his hand as he pushed himself to his feet, both of them heading back to Chen Yuzhi’s clinic

Back in Chen Yuzhi’s clinic, Chen Yuzhi paced aimlessly, Wang Meng watching him with a small frown, just as Jiang Yuelou and Keying appeared and stepped into the clinic

“Gege!”

At her voice, Chen Yuzhi’s head shot up and when he saw her, he gasped

“Keying!”

He then rushed over to her and knelt before her, wrapping his arms around her as she buried her face in his shoulder

“Oh Keying”

He then looked up at Jiang Yuelou and smiled tearily

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou blinked, stunned by his smile, before he cleared his throat

“You’re welcome”

Chen Yuzhi smiled again before he gave Keying another squeeze and pulled away, looking at her

“Now, what do you say, Keying?”

Keying nodded and looked up at Jiang Yuelou, smiling

“Thank you!”

Jiang Yuelou chuckled softly

“You’re welcome”

He then looked at Wang Meng and motioned with his head

“Come on, we still gotta case”

Wang Meng nodded and walked over to him, both men heading out of the clinic

Chen Yuzhi and Keying watched them leave before Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened

“Ah!  I didn’t get his name!”

As they walked away from the clinic, Jiang Yuelou looked over at Wang Meng

“You know him?”

Wang Meng hummed

“He’s my cousin”

Jiang Yuelou nodded slowly

“I see”

Wang Meng glanced over at him and narrowed his eyes

“I see the gears turning in your head, Jiang Yuelou.  Don’t even think about it”

Jiang Yuelou looked at him in shock before he huffed

“I’m not doing anything and I’m not thinking about anything”

Wang Meng clicked his tongue

“Liar.  I saw the way you looked at my cousin.  Hell no”

Jiang Yuelou huffed

“I told you, I’m not going to do anything, you fucking weirdo.  Now let’s go”

Later that evening, after they finished work for the day, as Jiang Yuelou was heading home, he was surprised to see Chen Yuzhi walking towards him, his kit in his hand

“Oh.  Hello”

Jiang Yuelou smiled

“Wang Meng’s cousin, right?”

Chen Yuzhi smiled and dipped his head

“Yes”

He then held out his hand

“I never properly introduced myself.  Dr. Chen Yuzhi”

Jiang Yuelou smiled and shook his hand

“Chief Jiang Yuelou”

Chen Yuzhi smiled and pulled his hand away as he cleared his throat

“I never uh, thanked you.  For saving Keying”

Jiang Yuelou shrugged

“No problem.  Happy to help”

He then looked at him

“Have you eaten yet?”

Chen Yuzhi blinked before he shook his head

“Oh, no.  But um, I actually have to get home.  Keying and Wang Meng are waiting for me”

Jiang Yuelou hummed

“Well then, let me escort you home.  It’s late”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened before he smiled and dipped his head

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou then waited for him to lead the way before they began to head towards Wang Meng’s house, a comfortable silence between them

When they reached Wang Meng’s house, Chen Yuzhi stepped forward before he paused and looked over at Jiang Yuelou

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou smiled and nodded

“You’re welcome.  Have a good night”

He then turned and began to walk away when Chen Yuzhi took a step towards him

“Jiang Yuelou”

Jiang Yuelou paused and turned, raising an eyebrow

“Hmm?”

Chen Yuzhi blushed slightly, rather grateful that it was dark enough that Jiang Yuelou couldn’t see it

“Um…instead of dinner…maybe we could do lunch tomorrow?”

Jiang Yuelou stared at him for a moment before he smirked

“Are you asking me out on a date, Dr. Chen?”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened before he blushed deeper

“You’re the one who asked me first!”

Jiang Yuelou laughed and he nodded

“You got me there.  Sure, I can do lunch tomorrow.  Shall I go and get you from your clinic or will you come to me?”

Chen Yuzhi blinked before he shrugged

“Whatever works for you”

Jiang Yuelou smiled

“Then I’ll pick you up.  See you tomorrow, Dr. Chen”

He then turned and walked away, Chen Yuzhi watching him leave before he bit his lip and blushed slightly, a small smile on his face as he turned and walked over to the front door, heading inside

The next day, as Wang Meng and Jiang Yuelou were working on their paperwork, Wang Meng noticed that Jiang Yuelou was whistling, which he found odd

“You’re in a good mood today”

Jiang Yuelou glanced at him and smirked

“I am”

Wang Meng huffed

“Care to share with the class what’s got you in such a good mood?”

Jiang Yuelou smiled

“I have a date”

Wang Meng’s eyes widened

“You what?!  What poor soul would give you the time of day?”

Jiang Yuelou chuckled

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Wang Meng narrowed his eyes

“You can’t just tell me?”

Jiang Yuelou shook his head

“Nope”

Wang Meng clicked his tongue

“Ass”

Jiang Yuelou chuckled and Wang Meng couldn’t help but smile; maybe having Jiang Yuelou as a partner wasn’t so bad

A little while later, around noon, Jiang Yuelou stood to his feet

“Alright, I’m gonna head out”

Wang Meng raised an eyebrow

“We gotta case?”

Jiang Yuelou shook his head

“Lunch date”

He then headed out of the office, Wang Meng watching him leave before he pushed himself to his feet and followed after him, both men heading downstairs and over to the door before he paused, his eyes widening in shock to see Jiang Yuelou walking over to Chen Yuzhi, who was waiting outside

“I thought I told you I was going to pick you”

Chen Yuzhi huffed

“I was in the area for a house call.  I just figured it would be easier if I just waited for you here”

Jiang Yuelou hummed, just as Wang Meng stormed over to them

“This is your lunch date?!”

Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wide eyes before Jiang Yuelou huffed

“Nosy”

Wang Meng huffed

“So what if I am?”

He then looked at Chen Yuzhi

“Really?  Him?”

Chen Yuzhi rolled his eyes

“It’s just lunch, Wang Meng”

Wang Meng hummed

“That’s what they all say”

He knew damn well that they would end up together, if his memory from the past before he died served him right

He then walked over to Jiang Yuelou and leaned down so that his mouth was by his ear

“If you break my cousin’s heart, I’ll break every bone in your body and then bury it where no one can ever find it”

Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he laughed

“Quite the threat”

Wang Meng narrowed his eyes

“It’s a serious one”

Jiang Yuelou nodded

“Alright, alright, I won’t do anything.  Like he said, it’s just lunch”

Wang Meng hummed and crossed his arms before he waved them away

“Go on”

Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi nodded before they turned and walked away from the police station, Wang Meng watching as they began to animatedly talk with each other, Chen Yuzhi throwing his head back at one point as he let out a laugh, Jiang Yuelou grinning brightly at the sight

As he watched them, Wang Meng hummed softly; he really did mean what he said to Jiang Yuelou

If he hurt Chen Yuzhi in any way, then Wang Meng would hurt him in a way where no doctor, not even one as skilled as his cousin, could put him back together again

So, now that Checkmate is over, I can give my thoughts on it.

First of all, I enjoyed this drama so much more than I did MRIAD.  Like I was actually able to finish the drama, unlike MRIAD where I only made it to ep. 10.  I enjoyed the characters, I really enjoyed the cases....overall, I really enjoyed the drama.

Second of all, I loved Situ Yan and Luo Shaochuan.  Their relationship reminded me a hell of a lot like Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou and anything that reminds me of them makes me very happy.  In the last two episodes, I really thought they were going to disappoint me and they were having this whole fight, little did I fucking know that they PLANNED this shit.  Situ and Shaochuan never fucking disappoint.  God fucking bless. 

Third of all, I was actually pleasantly fucking surprised at the antagonists in this drama, mainly Jin Qiming and Zhou Mowan.  I didn’t fucking see them coming at all, especially Jin Qiming.  He looked so innocent and nice but that’s why you can really never trust the innocent ones.  Also, I’m kind of glad that Mowan was a villain in the end.  Liked that little twist. 

Fourth of all, I liked that Situ and Shaochuan were almost always together in this drama compared to MRIAD where it ended up being that Luo Yao was always somehow with BYN and Chusheng was left behind.  Also, while yes there were hints of romance in this drama, they never really went anywhere, which I’m grateful for. 

And yes while Situ is leaving Shaochuan, just like Luo Yao left Chusheng, Shaochuan isn’t alone, Situ is the one who is alone.  And the final hug between Situ and Shaochuan is so much happier than the hug between Luo Yao and Chusheng.  I kind of like that they flipped the MRIAD ending and made it happy in this one.  Like yes, thank you.  Do I wish that they could have stayed together?  Of course I do.  But I will take this ending over the MRIAD ending any fucking day.

And finally, for anyone who wants to start Checkmate, you cannot go into this drama expecting it to be anything like MRIAD.  Yes, a lot of the actors from MRIAD are in this drama, but their personalities are not the same and you cannot expect them to be.  This isn’t a sequel to MRIAD, this is a whole new drama with whole new cases.  So don’t try to compare MRIAD and Checkmate because they are not the same

But, overall, 10/10 would definitely watch this drama again

Okay, so.  I’m going to consolidate my two new fic ideas into one post because it’s much easier for me to find it that way.

1. A/B/O detective case fic.  Alpha!Jiang Yuelou, Omega!Chen Yuzhi.  This one is definitely inspired by a lot of the yaoi detective bls that I’ve read and some of the cases are probably gonna be pulled from some of them but of course, there won’t be any sex because you can write a/b/o without sex

2. Kei x Yaku style fic.  Police officer!Jiang Yuelou, Yakuza/triad leader!Chen Yuzhi.  I’ve written a lot of triad leader Jiang Yuelou and not enough Yakuza/Triad Leader Chen Yuzhi.  They have to work together to find Chen Yuzhi’s little sister, Keying, who was kidnapped by another triad and they only have so many days to find her before the other triad kills her

These are both gonna be so fun...the a/b/o one is probably gonna be a chaptered fic while the keixyaku one is gonna be a very long oneshot.  But I’m excited to write both, that’s for sure

You know what's funny, anon? I had an idea for this like a year ago but never did anything with it...maybe I should rehash it out and make it better.  Also, definitely went way overboard with this...but that’s okay.  Probably will turn this into a fic because I like how it turned out

Jiang Yuelou is a pirate and the captain of the Black Opal. He’s known throughout the world, both on land and on sea, as a ruthless pirate who has no problem killing anyone who gets in his way

Chen Yuzhi is a prince of the kingdom Jing An and protector of his little sister, Princess Keying

Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi meet one day because Jiang Yuelou’s subordinates decide to kidnap Keying from one of the palace’s gardens under Chen Yuzhi’s watch.  The minute Chen Yuzhi sees Keying being carried off by pirates, he’s running after them

“Stop!  Let her go!”

However, the pirates don’t listen and instead continue to run through the kingdom, Keying screaming as she’s carried off. Chen Yuzhi knows there’s no way he can keep up with them on foot so he quickly borrows a horse from a nearby stable and mounts it before he rides after the pirates, who make their way to the docks

The docks are a crowded mess and there’s no way for Chen Yuzhi to make his way through on horseback, so he dismounts and starts running after the pirates on foot again.  At one point he loses them and he looks around with wide eyes, ice shooting through his veins

“No.  No, no, no, Keying”

“GEGE!”

At her scream, Chen Yuzhi whips towards the sound and sees the pirates running up a gangway to a ship

“Oh no you don’t”

He then shoves his way through the crowd, making many of the peasants around him glare at him but he doesn’t give a damn, his sister is being kidnapped by fucking pirates and he needs to get her back

As he runs towards the ship, he notices that the ship begins to depart from dock and he knows that if he’s not fast enough, he’s not going to get Keying back so he quickly runs to a nearby ship that’s close to the port of the departing pirate ship and slices one of the ropes on the ship, holding onto it tightly before he runs across the deck and launches himself into the air, using whatever momentum he can get to propel him onto the port of the pirate ship

All of the pirates look at him in surprise as he draws his sword and points it at the two pirates that are holding Keying hostage

“Let her go”

Just then, there’s a sword at his throat and he looks over to see Jiang Yuelou smirking at him

“You’re outnumbered, princey”

Chen Yuzhi growls and knocks Jiang Yuelou’s sword away before he begins to fight him, much to Jiang Yuelou’s surprise.  The two spar and Jiang Yuelou is surprised at how good Chen Yuzhi is with a sword because he wasn’t expecting a prince to be well-versed in a sword.  He thought it was just for show

They continue to fight until Keying lets out a scream, causing Chen Yuzhi to look over at her with wide eyes to see one of Jiang Yuelou’s first mates holding a dagger to her throat

“Drop the sword or I slit her throat”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen, and he immediately drops the sword, the tip of Jiang Yuelou’s sword immediately pressing against his throat

“Don’t…don’t hurt her.  Please”

Jiang Yuelou huffs

“I don’t think you’re in the business of telling me or my men what to do”

Chen Yuzhi looks over at him before his eyes harden

“You want a royal, take me.  But let her go”

Jiang Yuelou huffs and presses the tip of the sword deeper against his throat, making him wince

“Again, I don’t think you’re in the business of negotiating”

He then looks over at his first mates

“Take them to the hold”

His first mates nod before they drag Keying, and Chen Yuzhi, down to the hold while Jiang Yuelou hums and looks down at his sword; that was his first sword fight in a while that felt…invigorating

A little while later, he goes down to check on Keying and Chen Yuzhi to find Keying curled in Chen Yuzhi’s arms, scared out of her fucking mind.  Chen Yuzhi is doing his best to comfort her but he doesn’t really know what to say or do because he’s scared too

Jiang Yuelou walks over to them and Chen Yuzhi immediately places himself between him and Keying, glaring at him

“Don’t fucking touch her”

Jiang Yuelou chuckles

“You’re a feisty one, aren’t you?”

He then reaches out and grasps Chen Yuzhi’s face in his hand, turning it from side to side, humming

“Pretty thing too.  You’ll make a pretty penny on the black market”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen and Jiang Yuelou chuckles again before he turns and heads back upstairs, leaving Keying and Chen Yuzhi in the dark.  As soon as he’s gone, Keying whimpers and buries herself into Chen Yuzhi

“Gege, I’m scared”

Chen Yuzhi shakes his head

“Don’t be scared, A-Ying.  I’m here.  I won’t let anything happen to you”

Up on deck, Jiang Yuelou is looking out over the ocean as his first mate Song Rong comes over to him

“What are we going to do with them, Captain?”

Jiang Yuelou huffs

“Sell them, obviously”

Song Rong nods and turns to head back to work as Jiang Yuelou looks back out over the ocean

Later on that night, there’s a terrible storm and the ship is rocking so bad and while everyone above deck is trying to not get yeeted off, below deck Chen Yuzhi is doing his best to keep him and Keying from going all over the place

It’s also cold and damp, so Chen Yuzhi takes off the cloak he was wearing and wraps it around Keying, making sure that she doesn’t get sick (forgoing his own safety and health because of course he is)

Keying, however, doesn’t want him to get sick either so she tries to give it back to him, only for Chen Yuzhi to wrap it around both of them before pulling Keying onto his lap, holding her close so that she stays warm

The next morning, when the storm passes, Jiang Yuelou goes downstairs to see how the siblings are faring and finds them both asleep on the floor, Chen Yuzhi’s cloak wrapped primarily around Keying as they curl around each other

Jiang Yuelou stares at them for a moment before he walks over to Chen Yuzhi and shakes his shoulder

“Hey.  Hey. Get up”

Chen Yuzhi lets out a soft groan before he opens his eyes, jolting when he sees Jiang Yuelou staring at him.  He then immediately sits up and looks at the pirate with wide eyes as Jiang Yuelou huffs

“You need some sun.  Come on, up”

Chen Yuzhi nods before he reaches out and shakes Keying’s shoulder

“A-Ying.  A-Ying”

Keying, however, doesn’t stir, making Chen Yuzhi frown

“Keying?”

Jiang Yuelou looks down at the princess as well, frowning

“What’s wrong with her?”

Chen Yuzhi shakes his head before he gently touches her arm, only to feel it shaking underneath his hand.  His eyes widen and he quickly removes the cloak before he presses the back of his hand to her forehead, hissing when he finds that it’s burning up

He then looks up at Jiang Yuelou with wide eyes

“She has a fever”

Jiang Yuelou frowns before he kneels down as well, reaching out and gently placing two fingers to Keying’s pulse point

“Her pulse is too fast”

Chen Yuzhi nods before he looks at him

“Do you have a room I can take her to to treat her?”

Jiang Yuelou frowns before he nods, motioning for Chen Yuzhi to follow him.  Chen Yuzhi quickly scoops Keying into his arms and follows him, both men heading into a very luxurious bedroom

Jiang Yuelou motions to the bed and Chen Yuzhi quickly places Keying down on it as he begins to feel her over

“I need a towel or a rag and clean water”

Jiang Yuelou scoffs

“I’m not your servant”

Chen Yuzhi turns to glare at him

“Do you want her to die?”

Jiang Yuelou is quiet before he heads to the door of the room and barks out orders for someone to get him a rag and clean water. He then turns back to see Chen Yuzhi beginning to undress Keying, making him frown

“What are you doing?”

“These extra layers are wet and damp and they’re going to keep her sick.  If I can get her down to her under clothes, she’ll feel better”

Jiang Yuelou hums and watches as Chen Yuzhi carefully removes all of the heavy clothes and shoes until Keying is just in her under clothes, still shivering and now whimpering

“Shh, shh.  It’s okay, it’s okay.  Gege’s here, it’s okay”

Jiang Yuelou stares at them for a moment, just as Sun Yongren, his other first mate, enters the room with the rag and the clean water

“Captain”

Jiang Yuelou takes the items before he brings them over to Chen Yuzhi, who looks up at him before he smiles slightly

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou blinks; the prince has a pretty smile. He then watches as Chen Yuzhi dips the rag into the water and squeezes out the excess before he begins to gently wipe Keying down, ridding her of the sweat that’s beading on her brow and arms

Keying whimpers at the touch, causing Chen Yuzhi to hush her as he continues to wipe her down

“Shh, shh.  You’ll feel better soon, sweetheart”

He then shivers, making Jiang Yuelou look at him with a frown before he reaches out and touches his forehead, making him jolt and look up at him with wide eyes

“What are you—”

“You have a fever as well”

Chen Yuzhi shakes his head

“I’m fine.  Keying’s health is more important”

Jiang Yuelou huffs

“I cannot have two sick royals on my ship, so you need to rest too”

Chen Yuzhi shoots him a glare

“When Keying is better, then I will rest.  But not before”

Jiang Yuelou groans but doesn’t try to argue because Chen Yuzhi seems stubborn about this.  However, since he does have a ship to run, he has Song Rong and Sun Yongren take turns watching over the siblings to make sure that Keying gets better and that Chen Yuzhi doesn’t get worse

His first mates are a little perplexed that their captain is being nice to their hostages, but they just shrug and help Chen Yuzhi in any way they can, as that was literally what Jiang Yuelou assigned them to do

Keying’s fever eventually breaks, which is good, and now Chen Yuzhi just has to make sure it stays broken and that it doesn’t dissolve into something worse.  At one point, Jiang Yuelou comes to visit and hands Chen Yuzhi a steaming cup of something, making him look at him in shock

“What is—”

“It’s tea. Helps keep up the immune system.  Which you need right now”

Chen Yuzhi blinks before he takes the cup of tea and blows on it before he takes a tentative sip, humming

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou hums before he looks down at Keying

“She better?”

Chen Yuzhi looks down at her as well before he nods

“Yes.  Her fever broke, finally”

Jiang Yuelou hums again

“That’s good.  Sick princesses don’t do well in the market”

Chen Yuzhi laughs softly

“No, I suppose they don’t”

He then looks at Jiang Yuelou and smiles

“Thank you”

Jiang Yuelou frowns

“For what?”

“For letting me take care of my sister”

Jiang Yuelou huffs

“I didn’t do it out of the goodness of my heart.  I did it so that you’ll be in peak condition when it comes time to sell you”

Chen Yuzhi hums

“Sure.  Whatever you say”

Jiang Yuelou growls but doesn’t say anything else as he turns and heads out of the room, leaving Chen Yuzhi alone with his tea and with Keying

A little while later, the ship suddenly rocks violently, making Chen Yuzhi gasp and quickly hold onto something while Keying opened her eyes and frowned

“Gege?  What’s going on?”

Chen Yuzhi looks over at her with wide eyes before he shakes his head

“I don’t know, sweetheart”

Just then, the door bursts open and a pirate, who definitely doesn’t look like one of Jiang Yuelou’s crew, runs over to them and grabs Chen Yuzhi by the arm

“Hey, what are you—let go of me!”

The pirate doesn’t listen to him and continue to drag Chen Yuzhi away from Keying, who holds out a hand to him

“GEGE!”

Chen Yuzhi growls and quickly grabs his mug of tea before crashing it into the pirate’s head, watching as he crashes to the ground. He then lets out a harsh breath before he looks around and notices a sword nearby, causing his eyes to widen before he runs over to it and grabs it off the wall

He then looks at Keying and points at her

“Stay here.  Do not move.  Lock the door behind me”

Keying nods as Chen Yuzhi quickly takes the sword and stabs it through the pirate that just tried to take him away, making sure that he’s dead before he runs out of the room and shuts the door behind him to keep Keying safe

He then looks out over the deck to see Jiang Yuelou’s crew and another crew fighting, making his eyes widen in surprise before he notices that Song Rong is in trouble and backed up against the side of the boat, about to go over

He quickly runs over to the man and stabs the pirate that was trying to hurt Song Rong, yeeting him over the side of the boat before looking at Song Rong

“Are you okay?”

Song Rong looks at him with wide eyes before he nods

“Fine”

Chen Yuzhi nods and looks around, trying to find anyone else he can help, when he notices Jiang Yuelou and another pirate fighting and that Jiang Yuelou seems to be injured

His eyes widen and he quickly runs up to the poop deck to help him, kicking away the pirate before looking at Jiang Yuelou

“Are you okay?”

Jiang Yuelou looks at him in shock before he sees the pirate coming at them

“Look out!”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen and he quickly gets out of the way as Jiang Yuelou protects him from the attack before they both attack at the same time, attacking the pirate before sending him overboard

Once he was dead, Jiang Yuelou looks at his crew

“Shoot them down!”

His crew shout back replies and they begin to man the cannons to take the pirate ship down when a scream echoes through the air and everyone freezes to see a pirate holding Keying hostage, a knife to her throat

“Nobody moves or I’m throwing her overboard”

Everyone freezes and looks at the pirate and Keying with wide eyes before Keying suddenly jabs her elbow into his gut, causing him to cry out in pain as she slips away

The pirate quickly recovers and lets out a growl as he follows after her, only to suddenly fall dead as a gunshot echoes throughout the air.  Everyone then looks up to see Chen Yuzhi holding Jiang Yuelou’s gun in his hand, panting harshly, before he hands the gun back to Jiang Yuelou and runs down the stairs to check on Keying

Once he makes sure she’s okay, he looks over at the other pirate ship to find that they’re gone, allowing him to let out a breath of relief before he remembers that Jiang Yuelou was injured

His eyes widen and he quickly releases Keying before he heads back up to find Jiang Yuelou lying on the deck, his face contorted in pain

“Hey, hey!  Hey!”

Jiang Yuelou groans and Chen Yuzhi quickly checks him over before he looks down to see that he’s been stabbed in the abdomen, causing him to gasp softly

“Help!  The captain! He’s been stabbed!”

Song Rong and Sun Yongren quickly come running up the stairs as Chen Yuzhi looks at them

“He needs to be treated.  Quickly”

Song Rong nods and quickly scoops Jiang Yuelou into his arms before they all run down the stairs and into the room Keying was occupying, making Chen Yuzhi blink.  The room they were using…was Jiang Yuelou’s room?

However, he can’t dwell on that because Jiang Yuelou’s hurt so he quickly starts stripping Jiang Yuelou down before he looks over at Song Rong and Sun Yongren

“I need clean water, rags, anything you can get me. Now!”

The two men nod and quickly snap into action as Chen Yuzhi reaches into his robes and pulls out a small roll case which has small scissors, suture needles, and thread inside (a doctor is always prepared)

When Song Rong and Sun Yongren return with the items, Chen Yuzhi quickly takes the rags and dips them in the water before using them to clean away the blood so that he can see what sort of damage he’s dealing with

Once he can see the damage, he quickly threads the needle and begins working, Jiang Yuelou grunting and gasping and trying to get away

“Hold him down or I’m going to mess this up”

Song Rong and Sun Yongren quickly walk over to the bed and hold Jiang Yuelou down as Chen Yuzhi quickly and skillfully stitches up his stab wound.  He then ties off the thread and cuts the excess as Keying, who came to help, hands him the bandages, which he then takes and carefully wraps around Jiang Yuelou’s waist

“Alright…I think that should be good”

Song Rong and Sun Yongren nod and the four of them watch as Jiang Yuelou slips into unconsciousness, sweat beading at his brow. Chen Yuzhi then sighs softly before he looks at Song Rong and Sun Yongren

“Thank you.  I’ll watch over him”

Song Rong nods

“Let us know if you need anything”

Chen Yuzhi nods before he points to the dead man in the room

“Could you remove him, please?”

Sun Yongren nods and drags the man out as Song Rong gently guides Keying out of the room to give Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou some privacy.  Once they’re gone, Chen Yuzhi, who’s still suffering from a fever, shivers but quickly pushes it down so that he can look after Jiang Yuelou

When Jiang Yuelou wakes up hours later, he finds himself in his room before he looks over to see Chen Yuzhi asleep in the chair next to him, shivering and also incredibly pale.  Jiang Yuelou frowns and slowly sits up, only to gasp and clutch at his abdomen

He then looks down to see it bandaged and he frowns before he remembers, vaguely, Chen Yuzhi barking orders and stitching him up. He then slowly sits up again, making sure to not injure himself more, before he reaches out and gently touches Chen Yuzhi’s face, hissing

“This idiot”

He then carefully, as carefully as one can while injured, maneuvers Chen Yuzhi off the chair and into the bed next to him, making sure to cover him with the blanket before he grabs the bowl of water and rags and begins using them to try and bring Chen Yuzhi’s fever down

When Chen Yuzhi wakes up later, he finds himself in bed, next to Jiang Yuelou who’s sitting up and looking out the window.  He gasps and quickly sits up, making Jiang Yuelou look over at him

“Oh good, you’re awake”

Chen Yuzhi frowns

“What—”

“I thought you said you were going to rest after your sister got better”

Chen Yuzhi blinks before he huffs

“I was and then you got hurt.  You’re welcome, by the way”

Jiang Yuelou hums

“Thank you, I guess”

He then reaches out and cups Chen Yuzhi’s face in his hand

“Your fever’s broken, which is good”

Chen Yuzhi blushes and quickly pulls his face away as Jiang Yuelou looks at him

“You some kind of doctor?”

Chen Yuzhi blinks before he smiles

“Sort of.  I’m still learning, but I know the basics”

Jiang Yuelou hums

“Maybe instead of selling you, I should keep you around.  We don’t have a doctor aboard”

Chen Yuzhi shrugs

“If I can be of use, I’ll try”

Jiang Yuelou hums again before he reaches out and pushes Chen Yuzhi back down

“You need to rest.  Go back to sleep”

Chen Yuzhi frowns

“What about you?  You were stabbed”

Jiang Yuelou waves his hand

“I’ll be fine.  I’ll rest in a little bit”

Chen Yuzhi sighs and shakes his head before he gets comfy and soon falls back asleep, Jiang Yuelou watching him before he carefully pulls the comforters up over his shoulder and reaches out to run his fingers through his hair

After Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi get better, Chen Yuzhi and Keying get acclimated into the Black Opal crew, with Chen Yuzhi being the new doctor and Keying just…being Keying

Everyone on the crew is surprised that Jiang Yuelou decided to keep the royals instead of sell them until they realize that hey, having a doctor on board is like…actually really great.  And having one who can fight too is a bonus

Keying does get sword training because if she’s gonna be on a pirate ship and a part of a crew, she needs to know how to use a sword.  Chen Yuzhi’s got that covered due to him being a prince and training with the knights (but he and Jiang Yuelou spar sometimes, just for funzies)

One night, while everyone is sleeping, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi are up, watching the stars, when Jiang Yuelou looks over at Chen Yuzhi

“Do you miss it?”

Chen Yuzhi looks back at him

“Miss what?”

“Home”

Chen Yuzhi blinks before he nods

“From time to time”

Jiang Yuelou huffs

“I’m honestly surprised you didn’t beg me to take you and Keying back”

Chen Yuzhi huffs

“I know all about you, Captain Jiang Yuelou.  I know you won’t hesitate to dispose of someone if they anger you, which is why I did my best not to”

Jiang Yuelou stares at him

“You know about me?”

Chen Yuzhi huffs again

“Of course.  Everyone knows about you”

Jiang Yuelou blinks before he chuffs

“You know about me, but I don’t even know your name”

Chen Yuzhi blinks before he smiles

“Chen Yuzhi”

Jiang Yuelou smiles

“A pretty name to match a pretty face”

Chen Yuzhi blushes as Jiang Yuelou sighs

“How unfortunate that I’m not able to keep such a pretty treasure for myself”

Chen Yuzhi frowns

“What do you mean?”

Jiang Yuelou looks over at him

“I’m taking you back”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen

“Back?  As in to the kingdom?!”

Jiang Yuelou nods

“A life at sea is no place for a prince…or a princess”

Chen Yuzhi frowns

“But why?”

Jiang Yuelou shrugs before he looks over at him

“Do you not wish to go back?”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen again and he shakes his head

“No, no, I do!  I just…I wasn’t expecting you to let us go”

Jiang Yuelou smiles sadly

“I don’t want to…but I know it’s for the best”

Chen Yuzhi frowns

“You could…keep us”

Jiang Yuelou chuckles as he reaches up to gently cup Chen Yuzhi’s face

“I could…but I can’t”

Chen Yuzhi frowns but doesn’t try to argue as Jiang Yuelou’s mind seems to be made up.  Instead, he just scoots closer to Jiang Yuelou and leans against him, Jiang Yuelou clenching his hand into fists to prevent himself from wrapping an arm around Chen Yuzhi and never letting go

They stay like that for a while before they both head to bed but neither man really sleep.  The next morning, the Black Opal docks at the docks in Jing An and everyone bids goodbye to Keying and Chen Yuzhi, save for Jiang Yuelou, who can’t bear to watch them leave

Chen Yuzhi, however, goes to find him and finds him sitting alone on his bed.  When Jiang Yuelou hears the door open, he looks up and when he sees Chen Yuzhi, his eyes widen and he quickly stands to his feet as Chen Yuzhi walks over to him

“You didn’t come to say goodbye”

Jiang Yuelou scoffs

“I don’t do sentimental crap”

Chen Yuzhi smiles before he leans forward and presses a gentle kiss to Jiang Yuelou’s cheek, causing Jiang Yuelou to look at him with wide eyes as he takes a step back

“Goodbye, Captain Jiang”

Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widen and his mouth falls open in shock as he watches Chen Yuzhi turn and walk away and as he walks away, Jiang Yuelou reaches out before he closes his hand into a fist; he shouldn’t reach for what he can’t have

As Chen Yuzhi and Keying exit the Black Opal, Chen Yuzhi looks over his shoulder and his eyes widen in surprise to Jiang Yuelou standing up by the wheel, looking down at them.  He smiles and dips his head to him before he and Keying disappear into the crowd

Jiang Yuelou keeps his eyes on them until he can no longer see them and then he looks at his men and waves his hand, ordering them to get the ship moving along.  There’s nothing here for them

When Chen Yuzhi and Keying return, they’re smothered by servants and their parents, who were worried like hell for them.  When Chen Yuzhi asks them why they didn’t come looking for them, they explain that they did but they couldn’t find them. Jiang Yuelou’s ship was too far out for them to find

Chen Yuzhi hums and says no more as his parents have the servants immediately strip them of the “rags” they’re wearing and change them into “proper” clothes

After that, Chen Yuzhi and Keying are thrusted back into royal life and the siblings are miserable.  They don’t show it, of course, but they’re miserable. They miss being out on the ship, they miss the open ocean…and Chen Yuzhi definitely misses Jiang Yuelou

Jiang Yuelou and the crew of the Black Opal aren’t fairing any better…things are worse after Chen Yuzhi and Keying leave, mainly because Jiang Yuelou is always in an irritable snit that like…everything sets him off

And his crew kind of wishes that Chen Yuzhi was back with them because if he was here, Jiang Yuelou wouldn’t be angry and if Jiang Yuelou’s not angry then everyone’s having a good time

Months later, Chen Yuzhi’s parents decide to throw a masquerade ball to celebrate their children’s return so they dress Keying and Chen Yuzhi up in their finest dresses and suits and everyone in the kingdom is invited.  What they don’t tell Chen Yuzhi is that the ball is also to help him try and find a wife because he’s getting old enough to marry soon

Chen Yuzhi, however, isn’t stupid, he knows what the ball is actually for and he hates it.  However, he puts on a “brave” face and dances with everyone and tries to have a good time, but he just can’t so he decides, when no one is looking, to slip away to the garden to get some air and just fucking breathe

“Nice party”

Chen Yuzhi’s head snaps up and looks over to see a figure leaning against the side of the palace, a small smirk on his face

He frowns and slowly pushes himself to his feet, walking over to the figure and as he gets closer, his eyes widen and he lets out a soft gasp

“Jiang Yuelou”

Jiang Yuelou chuckles and pushes off the wall, standing before him as he shakes his head

“What are you…what are you doing here?!”

Jiang Yuelou smiles

“Stealing what’s rightfully mine”

Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widen and his mouth falls open in shock

“You—”

Jiang Yuelou chuckles

“I’ve come to take you back.  Keying too”

Chen Yuzhi nods

“Let me go get her.  Wait here”

Jiang Yuelou nods and watches as Chen Yuzhi slips back into the ball, careful to avoid people as he walks over to Keying, who’s standing in the corner avoid people because she’s tired, and leans down to whisper in her ear about Jiang Yuelou

She looks up at him with wide eyes and he nods. She then takes his hand and they quickly and quietly slip out of the ball and run back over to Jiang Yuelou, who smiles when he sees them

“Shall we?”

Chen Yuzhi and Keying nod and the three of them quietly slip out of the garden and out into the kingdom, heading to the docks. Since everyone is at the ball, there’s no one out in the streets to stop them

When they reach the docks, they quickly run up the gangway to the ship, where Chen Yuzhi and Keying are greeted with warm smiles and hearty hugs from Jiang Yuelou’s crew

They then pull away from the docks and ride off into the night, the ship celebrating because their prince and princess are back. Later, when it’s late, everyone retires and before Chen Yuzhi can head to bed with Keying, Jiang Yuelou pulls him into his cabin, making Chen Yuzhi look at him with wide eyes

“Jiang Yuelou?”

Jiang Yuelou then smiles as he reaches up to remove the masquerade mask covering Chen Yuzhi’s eyes, humming contently

“There.  Now I can see my pretty prince’s face”

Chen Yuzhi blushes before he looks at him

“You came back”

Jiang Yuelou scoffs

“Of course I did.  I told you—”

He then reaches out and snakes an arm around Chen Yuzhi’s waist, pulling him close

“I came to steal what’s rightfully mine”

Chen Yuzhi chuckles and knocks his head gently against Jiang Yuelou’s, Jiang Yuelou smiling as Chen Yuzhi looks at him

“My pirate”

Jiang Yuelou looks at him with wide eyes before he smiles devilishly

“My prince”

He then kisses Chen Yuzhi soundly and Chen Yuzhi makes a soft noise of surprise before he melts into the kiss and Jiang Yuelou, the prince and pirate kissing under the soft stream of moonlight that enters Jiang Yuelou’s bedroom

Probably my fic S.C.I. 谜案集. However, it's a fic that carried over from last year, but I think it still counts. I completed it with 227,913 words. Longest fic that I wrote (or rewrote) this year would be In Too Deep with 62,178 words. Second longest completed fic that I wrote this year would be The Demon and the Angel with 53,869 words

Okay, my definition of short is like...not like others. But my short fic completed this year was Welcome Home with 1,210 words

9. longest wip of the year

My baby, 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer. It's the Killer and Healer drama rewrite and so far we're at 172,474 words and 96 chapters

10. shortest wip of the year

None of my wips are short, anon...I don't really do short. So far, my other wips, 灵魂档案 | The Spirit Files and SPY x FAMILY are both about 36-37K (37,502 for The Spirit Files and 36,927 for SPY X FAMILY). The Spirit Files has 23 chapters so far and SPY X FAMILY has 18 chapters.

11. fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year

I always, always, always enjoy writing for the Killer and Healer fandom (I currently have the most fics written for said fandom and there will be more once I answer these prompts in my ask box). But I found that I also enjoyed writing for the Under the Skin fandom. The dynamic of the two leads is very similar to Killer and Healer and I think that's why I enjoyed writing for it as much as I did

I always enjoy writing about Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi (for me, they're kind of like a packaged deal)

That's really hard to pick...I can write to pretty much whatever, so I don't have a specific song that I listen to when I write

Can't Lose You for the Devil Judge fandom. I stopped writing for them mainly because I got overwhelmed with the amount of prompts that were coming in (I think I had like 80 asks in my ask box at one point and majority of them were TDJ prompts) but I had gotten a very nice anon requesting for the fic and because they were so nice about it/worded it so politely, I decided to write it.

15. something you learned this year

Something I learned this year is that I have no idea what my readers will like/will gravitate towards. Some fics I put a lot of time and effort into don't get that many kudos and another fic that was also good but not something that I spent like hours outlining and writing gets more kudos and bookmarks. It's very odd, but I don't blame my readers. I just think it's interesting

Chen Yuzhi and Keying, obvi.  They always tend to go like “twinning” costumes, like zookeeper and tiger cub, farmer and vegetable, etc.  So, when she told him that she wanted to go like him and Jiang Yuelou for Halloween, he was a little surprised, but he just asked who she wanted to go as.  She wanted to go as him, so he had to ask Jiang Yuelou for a spare police uniform, much to Jiang Yuelou’s intrigue and confusion.  But he lent him the uniform, and on Halloween, when he saw the siblings together (with Keying in her lab coat and Chen Yuzhi’s empty doctor kit while Chen Yuzhi wore the spare uniform) he couldn’t help but smile because it was cute (and maybe Jiang Yuelou found that he liked Chen Yuzhi in the uniform, who knows)

Second Most Likely

Zhan Junbai and Yu Tangchun.  They’re both opera singers, they have a plethora of outfits that they could use as costumes and so much makeup that they could use to paint entirely new faces onto their own.  So yeah, they’d dress up, for sure

Least Likely

I doubt Jiang Yuelou or any of the other officers would dress up, mainly because they’re worried that there would be a higher uptick in crime, just because people are in masks and costumes and it’s easier for them to get away with shit.  But they’d be in their uniforms (or Jiang Yuelou in his three-piece grey striped suit and wide-brimmed fedora that makes him look like a mob boss) and someone would definitely (probably a little kid) would say that they look cool (which would be the highlight of their evening)

So, I've got three WIPs that I'm currently working on at the moment, but all of my answers for this ask are gonna come from my WIP SPY x FAMILY. All of these scenes are from upcoming chapters.

For context, I don't know if you've seen my postings about this au, but Jiang Yuelou is a spy, Chen Yuzhi is an assassin, and Keying is a telepath. They're posing as a family for Jiang Yuelou's mission, but over the course of the story, they become a real family because I'm a sucker for found family dynamics

            “Ah, ah, ah!  Take one more step and we’ll strip the little lady!” the punk declared before he reached down for the hem of Keying’s uniform dress, just to make a point, when he was suddenly slammed up against the wall of the accessibility ramp, Chen Yuzhi’s arm on his throat.

           “If you even dare to inappropriately touch my daughter, I will not hesitate to break every. single. bone in your body and then send you to the emergency room, no, the morgue, in a body bag” he snarled, looking at him with murder in his eyes.

WIP Tag Game

Thank you for the tag @hils79.  I’m always a slut to talk about my WIPS

The Demon and the Angel - this is my newest WIP and the one I am currently putting pretty much all of my creative energy into right now.  Like, I can’t stop writing it.  It’s basically a demon/angel au + detective au because I love both and I’m surprised I hadn’t done one yet.  Demon!Jiang Yuelou x Angel!Chen Yuzhi with lots of angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, domesticity...it’s got everything.  It is a mature fic due to the contents (it’s a detective au/cafe fic so like...shit’s gonna get dark).  The draft is currently at 22K and I genuinely have no idea how long this thing is gonna be.  It might be longer than The Detective and the Assassin, since that one was like 23.6K but who knows

 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer - my baby, my precious, my Killer and Healer rewrite.  We’re currently at 77 chapters and I’m also currently working on the next chapter but because I’m at the cringey part of ep. 16 where Zhao Moqing is trying to seduce Jiang Yuelou by acting helpless next to her car, I stopped working on it.  But I will get back to it...once I’m tired of working on The Demon and the Angel

I Could Never Forget You - Amnesia au/Temporary memory loss where Jiang Yuelou gets hurt during a case and forgets that he's married to Chen Yuzhi.  Chen Yuzhi is hurt but doesn't try to force the relationship, even though everyone else is like bruh, Jiang Yuelou is dating someone else; someone who is not you.  Jiang Yuelou thankfully regains his memory whenever he finds out Chen Yuzhi is hurt and in the hospital

My Pirate, My Prince -  based off of this ask.  I've written a pirate au for Junchun, where it's pirate!Zhan Junbai x mermaid!Yu Tangchun, but I haven't written a pirate au for Yuezhi yet.  And I had a story written before semi-plotted out like a year ago but I just wasn't feeling it.  But this one?  Oh, I'm feeling this one

Prettiest Flower in Town - Florist!Chen Yuzhi x Triad Leader!Jiang Yuelou.  Funny story, I was actually working on this WIP when the idea for The Demon and the Angel popped into my head.  But, I love me some mafia aus so obviously there has to be more, right?  You can never have enough mafia aus

So This Is What Love Feels Like - Jiang Yuelou has a crush on Chen Yuzhi but he has no idea what the feeling inside of him is (it's love, Jiang Yuelou.  It's love) so he asks Song Rong, who is definitely not the person to ask, but he plays "dumb" and says that Jiang Yuelou should go see Chen Yuzhi because whatever he's experiencing sounds "serious".  Pour one out for Song Rong, best fucking wingman in the Jing City Police Department

Stake Me Through the Heart - it’s a vampire au but it's a twist!  Vampire Hunter!Jiang Yuelou x Vampire!Chen Yuzhi.  My past vampire aus have been where Jiang Yuelou has been the vampire but not this time!  I'm actually quite excited for this one because I've never written a vampire hunter x vampire fic before, it's always been vampire x human so...I'm gonna have fun.  Oh, there is gonna be angst in this fic, I can tell you that much

Tattoo on My Arm and In My Heart - this is just the title for now, but it's Tattoo Artist!Zhan Junbai x Street Singer!Yu Tangchun.  I actually got this idea when watching one of the many Killer and Healer behind the scene clips and noticed that of the main four, Chen Yucheng is the only one who has tattoos on his arms.  So...tada!  Idea is born, all from literally staring at an actor's tattoos on his forearms (writers are weird man, ideas come from anywhere)

You're a Good Father, Jiang Yuelou - Single Father!Chen Yuzhi x Police Chief!Jiang Yuelou.  Don't know why I wanted to write this fic but I just feel like it needs to be written.  Of course it's gonna be fluffy because there's baby Keying involved but there's also gonna be angst (because it's me and because we need to get Jiang Yuelou's past involved, obvi)

Nothing Can Separate Me From You - I don't know if I'll write this one, it's there in my WIP folder but basically the premise of this one is Zhao Moqing is doing her damndest to try and get Jiang Yuelou all for herself by giving him gifts or following him (and just being creepy) but unfortunately he's in love with Chen Yuzhi and that pisses her the fuck off.  So she actually ends up causing a rift between the two by kissing Jiang Yuelou suddenly in front of Chen Yuzhi and that's a whole mess...she thinks she's got Jiang Yuelou all to herself now but nope!  He's still very much so in love with Chen Yuzhi.  So Zhao Moqing decides to frame Chen Yuzhi with opium and get him arrested and when that plan fails, she flies off the handle at Chen Yuzhi and demands to know how Chen Yuzhi got Jiang Yuelou to be so devoted to him because she's done everything, even framing Chen Yuzhi with opium, to get Jiang Yuelou to pay attention to her but it's not working.  Little does she know that Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi planned the whole arrest thing to get her to incriminate herself so she gets arrested and Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi go home for cuddles and apologies

High School Au - based off of this ask.  I don't know if I'm going to write this one either but I have thoughts and I just have to detail them out better I think.  But I'm pretty sure the K&H fandom doesn't have a high school au yet and if it doesn't have one, that means I probably have to write one

I’m very new to the fandom and was afraid there wouldn’t be much content for it, let alone new stuff. I was so glad to be proven wrong! You are almost single-handedly keeping the killer and healer tag on both tumblr and ao3 alive and I have nothing but respect for you.

Aw, thank you so much! I didn't honestly think I would be the one to keep this fandom alive but there's just something about Killer and Healer that like...has not let me go for the past year. Like, most times, I'll watch a drama, get into it for a little while, then move on. But Killer and Healer? Nah fam, that shit gripped my heart, put it in a fucking cage with a lock on it and was like "you're mine" and I'm just like "okay". But I do feel like our little fandom is growing slowly, because I do notice when people start reblogging/liking a lot of my Killer and Healer posts, which always makes me happy because I want more people to join, to experience the absolute beauty (and pain) that is Killer and Healer.

I'm honestly really proud with how much I've written for this story and I'm so proud and grateful that everyone is loving the story as much as I'm loving writing it. There's still gonna be deaths (as I can't save everyone) but there won't be as many because jesus fucking christ it's like we were just cutting down people like they were flies. And we don't even SPEAK of the last five minutes of ep. 37...honestly, we don't speak of ep. 37 at all but unfortunately, it but be written. HOWEVER. There will be a happy ending because GOD DAMN IT my boys and my characters deserve one. The ending for this fic I have planned out and oh...my god. It's gonna be good.
