shiny mew OBTAINED - and successfully traded over to my na copy of emerald version! i named them 'canto' as a reference to poems/songs as well as the kanto region :D and ofc i had to catch them in a dive ball... (i bought 99+ dive balls for this hunt so, naturally, canto stayed on the very first one i threw.)

i'll probably do a full write-up about how i got this mew at some point jic anyone is interested in the more technical side of things, but tl;dr it involved a full playthrough of a japanese copy of emerald version and then a Gentle Injection of the flags for the event into my game's file (via pkhex... gasp... i know... the sacrilege of it all). i have very loose plans to make canto into a ribbon master - but i'm also procrastinating on my current ribbon masters, so who knows how long thatll take. at least mythicals don't have to brave battle towers until gen7 :')

either way: i absolutely love canto, and finally experiencing this event was ABSOLUTELY a childhood dream come true!!!

I feel like I get duped a lot because, obvsly I'm hella vulnerable to manipulation, but I also buy into the 'people can change' line whole-heartedly. I do this because I feel like I've changed for the better. I've had a lot I've needed to unlearn over the years and I hope I'm a kinder person for it, and I hope that I continue to do that. I have been having a Time™️ kitchen leak I just finished fixing (for now) and I realized beautiful Nightshade’s paws need ointment. It’s summer (yes I know it’s not but we’ve had a triple digit (in F) day already, okay? It’s fucking summer as in heat.

So we literally can’t keep thinking of it as spring, I had to readjust the water for the garden because normally during this time of the year (for desert plants) 1 a week is fine in spring. I have to turn down the water heater because the water needs less heat because the sun bakes it

However now the water needs to be every 4 days and that will continue to adjust to how hot the days get and if/how low the night cools down. Once we get into those high triple digits it sometimes needs every day, because as urban structures continue to go up, the desert in developed areas isn’t allowed to cool at night like it’s supposed to. The asphalt buildings, concrete etc soak up the heat during the day and it lingers and can make busy places like Phoenix AZ go up to 150f+ on the streets. So the water retention dries up faster and the ground grows harder and less likely to absorb water etc etc and the plants and animals don’t get a chance to cool off and recover

Much more scientific people could explain better but basically, we have to treat it like it’s already summer. Which also means adjusting for high tick and flea, brushing more, massaging and moisturizing paws, making sure he has extra water dishes around the house jic and that sometimes we lock the dog door during the heat of the day (that doesn’t happen until triple digits again tho, he adjusts somehow and can handle bricks that could cook a pizza)

But also the monsoon weather is already acting up and we’ve had several small haboobs despite not being in season.

And this is a problem especially because tourists around us aren’t expecting the weather and are idiots

If you’re going to be a tourist. Don’t be stupid. Look up local natural disasters, the normal weather for that time of the year, the weather that COULD happen and what’s going on rn. I don’t care how fashionable you are or aren’t, if you go somewhere cold get protective gear. If you go somewhere hot, same thing. It doesn’t matter if you’re dark or light skinned or anywhere between, you can get sunburned!!!! Especially if you’re not used to the strength of the sun on a desert!

Also dust is dangerous. As cool as those dust-devils and dust cloud and dust storm and wall of fucking dust look, enjoy from inside a window and sure as fuck don’t let your kids play in it to ‘experience’ it. Where I live not only can it damage your lungs there are spores that can make you very ill.

My cousin (who used to work outside in the sun all day) got heat sick walking two hours on a shaded river while visiting my parents because he came from a state that still has melting snow. Your body needs time to adapt my dear people, you cannot just go and jump into a new climate.

It will get back at you, even if it’s just crashing and getting sick at the end of your trip. Or something worse.

ESPECIALLY PETS AND CHILDREN

A dog that is fine walking on concrete in a different climate, or a child going barefoot can be severely hurt.

The seat buckles in cars here can burn you. To the point you need burn cream. That is on an adult. It’s worse for kids.

BE CAREFUL WHEN SEATBUCKLING CHILDREN. Especially if you they aren’t wearing a lot so they don’t overheat. Especially babies who can’t explain what’s wrong in hot car seats!!

Those things are painful! You can’t just put a baby directly into a hot car seat that’s primed to bake a bun!

Your bun just came out of the oven! Don’t put it back in!

Don’t leave kids or pets or elderly in an off car for even a few minutes. Take them inside and THEN get the groceries or leave your car running with the parking brake down for safety or something.

Haxorus w/ whatever, just to have a strong Dragon type

Baxcalibur w/ whatever I can fucking get, Dragon & Ice which is super good

It turns out Gliscor learns no offensive Ground type moves organically; the idea is to teach it Poison Jab via mushroom and then try to replace that with a TM-ed EQ, Earth Power, or High Horsepower. Still swapping its Tera to be Ground type tho jic

W/ the passive Pixilate, Togekiss transforms Relic Song into Fairy type and gets STAB + attack bonus; it also can do this with Tri Attack. Since Togekiss gets Serene Grace, the likelihood of paralyzing, burning, freezing, or putting the opponent to sleep is increased. And since it's shiny it gets +3 luck. This is probably the craziest Pokémon I will ever have

A Trevenant with Harvest would be helpful as a weirder way to farm berries w/o a Pickup mon; however it's a hidden ability. Getting to the Graveyard takes a hot second so I could have an Ability charm by then, but it's more likely I get Natural Cure which tbh is still great

Mamoswine is easy to find, no idea why I have never done a successful run w it lol. Baxcalibur is rare; I've encountered it before in Wasteland (which I can get to from Graveyard route I think) but it'll be weird. I think Mamoswine or Baxcalibur could work either way; I want Trevenant for type coverage and the aesthetic so I'm indifferent here.

Ummmm TLDR it'll be awesome ^_^ I still am going to wait a bit before I lock in on it; I have another dream run I'm trying to cook up, the only issue is I don't know if anywhere lists Bloodmoon Ursaluna's moveset and I do like definitely need that info for that one, so. I might just have to do a run with it and see what happens?

In a recent reblog about Dune and Chani, I was discussing with OP that the issue isn't that Chani should have been left alone, but both that:

despite what OP was sayaing abt execution being dunt Pt2's failing bc Chani was never important canonically to warrant a change anyway

AND that issue, I thought, was that Chani needed some sort of agency bc of how..."shiny native helpmeet" Herbert already made Chani in a story against imperialist dictators as if gender wasn't already an intrinsic layer of such history and politics

And that I needed to then question why I was so opposed to Alicent's HotD rewrite (even though I've said it several times jic, to myself bc that's just how critical thinking works) in a way that I am not for Chani's when both of their original stories had them arguably stereotypical.

Besides how I don't actually think bk!Alicent was all that stereotypical or that i her case this would be a bad thing:

Was talking to the lady running the shop, she's a retiree and was mostly doing this for fun from what I could tell. Was told a story about this lady she knits with, she would knit up socks and then bring them to her to finish them. Thought at first that this must of been someone new to the hobby, but no. They have been doing this for 12 whole years. And.. she has tried teaching them. told her that she can't do this forever. She's 88 she needs to learn how to do this herself. but no. and that's just kinda wild and kinda cute? and I love it

Nothing special to say really other than I’ve been dressing in a lot of white and light blues (sometimes pink) to mimic Pachirisu colors, mostly oversized clothes, and it’s surprisingly been helping me go out more.

Still hating being human but it’s a little easier to look at myself lately. So… thank you.

I might make a new Rotomblr soon, be more open about how I feel. Maybe meeting others who feel like I do could do me some good. It’d help me feel less alone, or ‘trapped’ in my body, at least.

Since I'm freezing in a horribly insulated house at the moment and weather is always on the brain, if it's getting colder where you are you could get some mittens / arm warmers / earmuffs to keep the pachirisu going & stay warm. I know someone back at base who has blue & yellow striped arm warmer sleeves, makes them look like a luxray when they have a black sweater on. Wait... Ahhhhhhhhuh I'll keep it in mind jic

I'd say if you're ready to be open about it it will probably be very good for you. I'm obligated to say people will be people, some are going to be jerks. However, the risks of them existing versus the potential gain of you getting more comfortable and happy with yourself and getting to build a community with people like you. The possible benefits are way too much to pass up if you're in the right place to get them. If that makes sense.....
