♒ - cooking/food headcanon

When Jin Sakai does eat, he usually enjoy a variety of foods and are happy to try new things out. He is known to be adventurous, and never picky, although he has preference over the delicate amalgamation of sweet, salty and spicy. However, if he is dedicated and focused on a goal or a mission to fulfill, he may not even be able to taste his food, because his mind is elsewhere. He literally can go from ignoring food for long periods of time to being the most adventurous epicureans. Because he tends to be unaware of his body’s hunger cues. 

If he gets extremely stressed and under a strenuous burden, Jin’s ‘demon’ can take into an immature, unhealthy form. While Jin Sakai normally is focused on moderation and a big-picture vision, he may suddenly become impulsive and reckless. He may binge eat, or else deny food altogether and go on without food at times. He may crave especially strong flavors to become more in touch with his physical bodies and mental distresses.

What are your thoughts on Norio and Jin's friendship?

As shown in this gifset (x), I think Jin and Norio has a lot of things in common. Leading a respected life of a samurai and a monk, they are the last of their kinds (Clan Sakai and Monks of the Cedar Temple). They both have experienced so much loss and death, and shared feelings of powerlessness and incompetency. But most importantly, they have people counting on them to defeat the Mongols and keep Tsushima in peace. They also share the character traits; the dichotomy of them being mostly sweet-spoken, gentle and caring, but having high propensity to experience bouts of berserk-anger, because they are traumatized people who push themselves beyond their limitations.

While they do certainly experience anger, although they prefer to remain in control of their emotions as best they can. They don’t want to allow their inner feelings to dictate their choices, which can cause them to push these things aside in hopes of focusing on what is rational. At times, this is easy for them to do, because they have semblance of control through their upbringing and training, but other times burying these feelings causes them to seep out in other ways. They might find themselves having frustrated outbursts, and deep within, they know where it all stems from their guilt, not being able to save those that they lost, and not being powerful enough. When it comes to justified anger, they seem to be perfectly fine allowing this to be expressed, especially in situations where they feel it is necessary in order to get their point across.

Hot take: I only own a PC and a laptop, and do not own any console-related games, including Mortal Kombat. Seeing all the gifsets related to Ghost of Tsushima on my dash, I think I do appreciate the fact that Jin Sakai does sound much like Hanzo Hasashi in the fact that he stands as one of the last surviving members of his clan. And him being resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. Besides that, no, the only thing that’s keeping me hyped as of now is reading the manga Vagabond (for all the uncanny connection which happens to be linked with Hanzo, with the fact that Musashi, one of the protagonists in the manga was also played by Sanada in Westworld and Sanada plays Hanzo/Scorpion in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie) and the said MK movie coming out next year.
