In honor of yesterday's fight club tiktok I wanted to add some fight club content that might give some perspective to people who haven't seen it/read it.
First of the book starts with some homoerotic innuendo and we also get some hints of it further on in the book. Here are some examples(it is a bit lowkey but remember the author of the book is gay so I don't think this is a coincidence).
(Gun in mouth->read it as bj, fighting->sex)
Secondly, if I remember correctly we talked about the fight club before when just like you mv dropped. There was a comic of yogi the bear and the original comic says something along the lines of first rule about the park is dont feed the bears and people conected it with quote from fight club that says first rule of fight club is you dont talk about fight club
And lastly smiley. In fight club smiley first appears in a scene where the Narrator gets a call from Marla. This is the screenshot from it(it might be a reach but it looks like the same type of sticker that rbb and sbb were using).
The sticker foreshadows project mayhem where the goal is to destroy the world and make something better of it. The symbol is once again a smiley that shows up on the burning building. (Smiley and soap are popular symbols of the movie)To me smiley screams Louis.
This are just some of my first toughts when it comes to connecting louis to fight club. Also one of the main points of the movie is fighting capitalism/consumer culture and i think louis kinda stands for that.
I tried to be as objective as possible but I'm quite a fan of fight club soo...Idk this might be a bit of a stretch to connect louis to fight club.
(If you think this theory is a bit of a reach dont post it:)
As always lots of love and thank you for all your work in this fandom <3
Hi love. Yay, thank you for coming back and adding more thoughts to this conversation. I’ve neither seen the movie, nor read the book. All I’ve done is read up on it, so I don’t have much of a personal opinion other than these theories sound very reasonable to me.
In reference to this post about Fight Club and COACOAC.
what does the screen say behind him bc the only thing I can read is "fucked him" 😭
99% sure it says "dragged him down and fucked him" 😅
ahhhh, so that's apparently a new take on the lyrics from BTY ("you drag me down, you fuck me up") that appears on the screen during the song (if I remember correctly, it looks like newspaper cuts, kinda reminescent of the JLY mv)
For context. Louis is a Manchester United fan, I find it hard to believe with all the thought that went into this video that he would include one of their biggest rivals 'just because'
Hi sea, there’s always been a debate amongst the gp when discussing H and L about how ‘proud’ Louis is. I was wondering if you have any thoughts about Louis and his relationship with being seen as a gay man. I do know several former students from his school have reported consistent stories of him being quite mean to gay/more feminine boys to the point of bullying while he was a teenager. Are we looking at his actions through rose-tinted glasses by assuming he’s been proud and secure all along?
Hi!
I made a couple of posts, but will also link this excellent post by @rougeandtonic.
Every closeted person’s personal history is different, and they do evolve. Dan Howell talked about his transformation. Along the way, people can transform for the better or for worse, and can become more tolerant or less tolerant.
A closeted musician probably won’t go all out supporting LGBT causes, but we don’t see any lateralized homophobia in professional-musician-Louis-Tomlinson, and we see many, many instances of discreet support.
Fandom also tends to discuss Louis’ case as if he has full control and all that he does to show pride is by choice. I think this is very misleading. The Just Like You lyric video is brilliant performance art that shows, by virtue of its execution, the way that a closeted artist is held hostage by the homophobic industry (this idea was suggested to me by a mutual).
The graphics in the video are presented with cut-out magazine and newspaper clips like a kidnapper’s hostage note. The cut-outs of Louis are like paper dolls that can be shredded and disappeared.
The lyrics are presented this way as a riddle— a puzzle to solve. Louis, who loves crime shows and documentaries and Ronson’s A Psychopath Test (which started with an online puzzle), and conspiracies (lol), has presented a puzzle for us in this video, in which the communication and the news pieces are all about industry exploiting artists.
I don’t think someone with this hunger for communication is trying to hide his sexuality. Instead of rose-colored glasses, I think people who don’t see it are willfully ignoring it.
None of these articles are random. It’s not a coincidence. The overarching theme here is displaying the struggle of individuals who have been marginalized. Whether by race, sex, or sexual orientation, he’s giving voice to minorities.
I know u saw this already, but mannnn….now the green eye makes so much more sense!!🤯😮 Louis’ mind>>>>
Yeah. I do think there was definitely a nod to George Michael. I mean, there’s so much about him that both Louis and Harry have a connection to. From Harry riffing the beginning of the song Faith when he used to play Anna in concert, to Louis using clippings about him in his Just Like You music video to RBB and SBB using his image (from the album Faith, no less) you can see that there are more than one or two references to him. George Michael was a closeted artist under Sony when he was their top superstar. His background, his fight, his music mean a lot to any queer person involved in music and the music industry.
so now the question becomes: how much creative license did louis have in this lyric video? given the fact that this was released because the story is that the label didn’t see it fit as a single, but louis wanted to put it out there anyway, i’d say he was given some leeway. it’s not an official single. he knows this fandom. he knows how we are. he knows we’d find the small things when the people giving the approval would just see a cool aesthetic.
