#OnTheJob #TheMissing8. Finally found the time to watch this! The On The Job film tackled how prisoners were being hired as hitmen and it showed the inner workings of how they're trained on the job. It was thrilling yet conflicting because you're not sure who to root for since they're all evil, only in different hierarchies. The Missing 8 is another side of the story where corruption ran deep in governance, the police force, and even the media. This time, a media outlet is brought to its knees with an ad boycott, following the release of a critical story about the local government. But it doesn't stop there as the outlet's survival came at the cost of eight lives. For context, the film made up the first two episodes with additional scenes. Can be considered as a separate season since they were a bit unrelated to The Missing 8. The sequel did showcase the film's concept and had special appearances of prominent characters to establish the connection. A couple of things that really appealed to me: First, the editing. I love the way they weaved in the floating headlines and socmed screenshots as the camera moved. This meant to showcase what was being reported and said in real-time as the story unfolded. Next, the soundtrack. I admit, I'm not as familiar with most of the songs used. But the selection really echoed that raw Filipino sound and jived well. It's similar to the song choice for BuyBust's closing credits. Third, John Arcilla and the entire cast. With each character reveal, I was amazed by how big and star-studded the cast members were. I mean, so many industry veterans with @johnarcilla taking the lead. Just wow! Another is the comedic timing. It's a serious watch, no doubt. But there were little moments where there are dead pan or sarcastic remarks that are actually quite funny and got a chuckle or two out of me. Lastly, the overall theme. It's a social commentary driven by a powerful narrative with less BuyBust- or OTJ-like action. Reminded be of Shugo Praico's BagMan and Raya Martin's Smaller and Smaller Circles.
