Nothing can describe how insidious this is and how disgusting that Glazer’s words were so horribly twisted. The statements here given by some of these “creatives” are abhorrent and, unsurprisingly, missed the point. The letter is also just wrong and full of misinformation but that’s expected. Looking back, it makes so much sense why Johnathan Glazer was on that stage badly shaking whilst giving his speech. A reminder that it’s free Palestine today and always, and people like this should never live in a world where they can forget that.

I was re-reading 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez this week. And on the back of this particular copy I have, there is a quote from somebody else saying ‘This novel should be read by everybody in the world,’ or something like that.
Basically it meant that this novel should be read by everybody if they have an intrigue in reading or are wanting to learn about literature.
I feel the same way about this film.
If a person were to want to learn what movies are like and develop a knowledge of cinema, then I would put this picture in a canon at the very top. Real films are supposed to make you think. Just like books do. They are designed to be thought provoking and address big ideas.
I only got back from the cinema a couple of hours ago and I’m still upset and disturbed by what I witnessed. But this, as a piece of art, is just sublime. I would encourage anybody to watch it. For now, I’m trying to think about other things just to flush out what I’ve recently experienced. This is hard. I don’t think I’ll be able to ‘get over’ this picture, as it were.

Johnathan Glazer, Oscar winning Director of The Zone of Interest, a movie depicting the wickedness of apathy during the Holocaust:
“Our film shows where dehumanisation leads at it's worst. It shaped all of our past and present. Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people, whether they be the victims of October 7th or the ongoing attack on Gaza. All the victims of this dehumanisation. How do we resist? Alexandria, the girl who glows in the film as she did in life, chose to. I dedicate this to her memory and her resistance.”

David Zabel supports genocide. Variety lists the names of people who signed to denounce Johnathan Glazer’s Oscar speech and he’s on it. (So is Amy Sherman-Palladino.) He’s neither a good writer nor a good person 😫 I really hope we get a new showrunner! Didn’t you say a while back that you knew who AMC was considering hiring? What do you think she would do with canon and do you think she’d fix the retcon of Daryl?
Thank you for the heads up. I didn’t see his name on the list the first time I read through it, but yep, it’s there. It’s bad enough he’s unfit to write for Daryl and Carol, but I am terrified of how his affiliations are going to manifest in their show considering his overuse of war and religious imagery. At best, it’s insensitive to the current crisis and at worst, he’s abusing his power to actively push an agenda the overwhelming majority of Caryl fans are against. I don’t want him anywhere near this show. Carol and Daryl, Melissa and Norman, and all of their fans deserve a thousand times better.
I will answer the second part of your ask separately. The Variety article is here for anyone who wants to read.

Throwback Video
It’s been 10 years since this weird arty sci-fi movie came out from Johnathan Glaser. Probably one of the most interesting and art sci-fi film we’ve had in the last decade. Also always reminded me of the man who fell to earth. I still think about this one a lot a definite masterpiece of our era.
Also cool to see what Glaser can do with that genre and what Scarlett Johansson could do if she picked better movies to be in. She’s probably the best she’s ever been in this

5. Is there a song you don't like but like its music video?
karma police because johnathan glazer directed it and thom yorke dies. no that’s not true I also dislike that video hm.
youtube
I can’t stand his voice (we know) but I’ve always liked the way this video was filmed/just liked seeing anything a little creepy on the vh1 video reruns slot (this can also apply to some nine inch nails videos like I’m not a big fan of them but, we love the leather and chains imagery you know?)
29. Songs you love to dance to:
51. Is there an artist you used to love as a child/teenager and still likes, even if you don’t listen to them as much?
hmmm l mean in terms of artist I literally can’t listen to anymore but was OBSESSED with as a child/pre teen, mcr is right there. and like I’m sure maybe there’s something for me to defend in there if I bring myself to listen to them now but I just can’t. I really can’t think of one I still like that I just don’t ever listen to that often now. maybe like stuff my mom was into like fleetwood mac? and if you want an artist I used to like and now completely hate we all know it’s blur 😃 before I got on my recent emo and adjacent kick I could have probably had a lot more answers to this but well now I don’t do I.
