100%'s Minwoo: A Special Post

(TW: discussion of death and mental health, mention of suicide)

One of the things I’m committed to on this blog is ensuring that the k-pop idols who have passed on—especially those that have taken their own lives—are remembered; hence, the “special reviews” page. The official report stated that he “experienced cardiac arrest”, which only means that his heart stopped beating, and doesn’t point towards what he actually died from, which could have been anything from an undiagnosed genetic condition to suicide. And while I could stand here and theorize for five paragraphs, that wouldn’t be very productive, because, really, we’ll never know. But when I was doing Minwoo’s section of the special reviews, it was almost impossible to find any information other people had posted about him. 

And, well, you know what they say, you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. So, here I am, realizing that if I wanted to paint an accurate portrait of Minwoo I would have to do it myself. So, here I am, doing this review, hoping both to find a good song or two and to find out more about a man I don’t know and will never get the chance to meet. If you’re in the same boat as me, come along for the ride! And if you’re a fan, I hope I do him justice.

Minsung fic recs Part 2: Asexual Character

Here's the second installment of minsung fic recs and it's all about asexuality! Some lovely ace rep of all kinds, including demisexuality, graysexuality, sex-repulsed aces and sex-favourable aces. Mostly ace!Jisung. Additional comments by me will be in brackets and italics [like this]

Jisung has never quite gotten the hype about sex, but touch-starvation is creeping up on him. When Felix jokingly suggests going to a sex worker to “get exactly the kind of affection and experience he wanted”, Jisung can't quite put the idea out of his head. He ends up in bed with kindest man who is willing to just hold him and let him ask dumb questions. He should have known he was doomed to fall. Or The five times Jisung books an hour of Minho's time, and the one time Minho shows up unannounced on his doorstep.

He’s vaguely aware of how little he’s helping to clear up the confusion, but Felix seems to understand anyway, the realization dawning on him. “Wait– like, the Minho? Childhood best friend Minho?” Felix questions, talking in English too. Jisung nods slowly, taking his bottom lip between his teeth, chewing it – yet another nervous habit he can never seem to break. He doesn’t know why he didn’t consider this – running into Minho again. Afterall, he did move back to Seoul, the exact place he had fled from. “I still don’t know what you two had a falling out over,” Felix points out, his tone gentle. Jisung shakes his head. “I– I still don’t want to talk about it. Just know… I fucked it up.” or: After running away from Seoul years ago, Jisung finds himself moving back with no choice but to face Minho and what he's done, learning new things about himself along the way.

Minho ignores the sound of his heart sinking down like the wreckage of an abandoned ship, because the key word here is that it’s abandoned; Minho’s heart beating all loud in the vacuum space of his chest is old news, nobody is close enough to hear it, not even Minho anymore. So he chooses to focus on what’s important: helping Jisung. "So, What are you gonna do about it?" “I was thinking maybe I could trick my brain by going on something like a date before hooking up with Doyun hyung. If I can fulfill my emotional needs, maybe it’ll be easier to fulfill my sexual ones. So—” Jisung stops, straightens up and clears his throat, speaks all theatrically. “Minho hyung, will you go out on a date with me?” - - - - - - or: Jisung can't have casual sex without feeling an emotional connection, so he asks Minho to take him out on platonic dates before his hookups. And Minho is nothing if not a good friend, and a pathetically weak man.

Changbin and Chan make a great couple, don’t get him wrong, but Jisung is struggling with longing for something like them. It still stings to wonder if he could have had something like that with Jonghwan, but he knows that it isn’t possible when he simply got tired of respecting Jisung’s boundaries. And however much Jisung promises himself that he isn’t going to try again—that it’s not worth it—he will always be a bit of a hopeless romantic. And not even fifty hours after he returned home, he already finds himself attracted to an old friend. Because damn, Lee Minho became handsome. OR: Jisung comes back to his hometown after a bad breakup and swears to never date again, thinking he will never find someone who will respect his boundaries. This all changes when he reconnects with his brother's childhood best friend, Minho, who flips his world upside down.

The very first time Minho meets him, he has that instinctive urge to protect him, to do something. He doesn’t know what he’s protecting him from, doesn’t really know why, but every time they run into each other it grows – he just wants to shield Jisung from a world trying to eat him alive.

Felix has never seen a more perfectly suited pair than Jisung and Minho, if only they weren’t so oblivious to their clear attraction. To that end, Felix has made it his mission to make them realize their feelings before Minho graduates.

Jisung doesn’t recover like Felix did, doesn’t move on and he can’t figure out if he was born broken, or was made to be so. Maybe if he had been born normal, whole, he wouldn’t have to fight so hard to be alive. Or, Jisung is a sex-repulsed asexual without the language or context to understand it. WARNING: this story opens right in the middle of a sexual assault. Make sure you’re in the right headspace for it. Also has mentions of suicidality and extensive references to ace people being broken/deficient.

Changbin does that sometimes, he’s a very visually oriented person so he’ll just see someone and announce his intentions to whoever is nearby. They’re going on stage in ten minutes though, and they have to meet up with Chan basically right now to get their mics. Changbin’s sexual overtures are going to have to wait.

Jisung needs to find a rebound after his latest breakup. He needs to prove himself that he can still be intimate, still be good at sex, after the betrayal. So, with the help of Felix, he sets up an account on Grindr and starts looking for his redemption booty call.

All of Jisung's friends know how he met Minho - he'd been going to a BDSM club for months, cycling through doms until he finally found one that fit. Gushed about him once they first started playing, told his friend what they were doing. He doesn't hide the kinky side of him, not from them. Answers questions when he gets them. It's not his fault no one else seems to understand. An attempt at a kinktober story.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — A new study by Brown University researchers suggests that gold nanoparticles — microscopic bits of gold thousands of times thinner than a human hair — might one day be used to help restore vision in people with macular degeneration and other retinal disorders. In a study published in the journal ACS Nano and supported by the National Institutes of Health, the research team showed that nanoparticles injected into the retina can successfully stimulate the visual system and restore vision in mice with retinal disorders. The findings suggest that a new type of visual prosthesis system in which nanoparticles, used in combination with a small laser device worn in a pair of glasses or goggles, might one day help people with retinal disorders to see again. “This is a new type of retinal prosthesis that has the potential to restore vision lost to retinal degeneration without requiring any kind of complicated surgery or genetic modification,” said Jiarui Nie, a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institutes of Health who led the research while completing her Ph.D. at Brown. “We believe this technique could potentially transform treatment paradigms for retinal degenerative conditions.” Nie performed the work while working in the lab of Jonghwan Lee, an associate professor in Brown’s School of Engineering and a faculty affiliate at Brown’s Carney Institute for Brain Science, who oversaw the work and served as the study’s senior author.

100% Deep Dive: 12 Years & They Can't Say Goodbye

100% was formed in September of 2012—they’re just coming up on their 12th anniversary—by Andy Lee of SHINHWA, of all people. At debut, they had seven members: Rockhyun, Jonghwan, Chanyong, Hyukjin, Sanghoon, who left in 2014, Changbum, who left in 2016, and lastly, Minwoo, who passed away in 2018.

Here are my credentials: As is par for the course by now, I really don’t know much about this group. But my interest in them now isn’t only because of their upcoming anniversary. If you’re only here for the music review, please skip the next few paragraphs and heed the warnings.

Crylite name origins. Warning lowkey cringe and I can't remember all the details and stuff. Nothing for LaLaLi cz they're so old and my first group so I don't remember anything

I think I had the most trouble with his so it totally does sound like a stretch. But when I was assigning letters to the members, I was trying to figure out which parts of their names could go with it (since I wanted to pick stage names slightly differently than I have before), and landed with yori -> ri (sounding like ari) and then (also bc ri just looks a little awkward alone) I thought it'd be funny to put a bts reference in his name and split it up as R.E (rap Expert 😼😼😼😼😼😼😼😼😼😼😼 fiiire 🔥)

tbh I do not remember why I gave her the Y other than deciding a girl member must get it cz there's like no english y boy names and I didn't want to make another reach like R.E
