Marry: Shay (something about Shay's quiet strength and secret *is it even secret at this point* softheartedness I think, which bumps Shay up from 'kiss' level.)

Kiss: Joony

Slap: Qiu (sorry, I don't think Nat would actually slap Qiu but they absolutely would not slap Joony or Shay).

Shay

Marry: Honestly, probably Nat too because after all their struggles and shenanigans, they'd probably want to marry someone who feels fun and kind and silly and who'll have their back no matter what

Kiss: Qiu (oh, Shay'd be attracted as heck to Qiu's tough enigmatic exterior for sure.)

Slap: Joony (I'm imagining something like a play slap or a omg bro you drunk kind of light wake-up slap)

Qiu

Marry: Honestly, given these options Qiu would probably not marry.

Kiss: I'm standing by my Qiu-Shay casual fuckbuddy/one night stand assessment. Though Nat could also be a one-time meet-cute/deep convo where they spill their guts, slow soft kiss and disappear forever kind of vibe.

Slap: Maybe Joony HAHA but nah, Qiu is a hugely verbal fighter, very unlikely to be physically aggressive

The whole Thing with Qiu?????? Delicious. The Incident flashback was so good, u nailed the tension and the anxiety of the scene so well that I audibly yelled 'FUCK' when qiu's mom opened the door lol. Also I love the option to go on a long rant about how much MC loves qiu like thats a straight up marriage vow type stuff the MC said. ALSO THE REUNION SCENE???? QIU YOU HOT PIECE OF ASS YOU. Like, I was gonna say yes right away anyway honey but keep begging we love to see it 😌 also, also, the line:

"You can see [them] wonder how much to ask for, and you find yourself wondering how much to give."

IS MY FAVORITE LINE. HELLO??? THE HESITANCE??? I LOVE.

Half way reading the qiu flashback I had a realization that the whole thing is just Taylor Swift's 'You're Losing Me'

+ Oh I actually have never heard that Taylor swift song before, so thank you for the rec! It truly IS exactly like that charged moment between MC and Qiu (and everything's falling apart). Amazing.

(Honestly Taylor seems like she's had a lot of experience with this sort of thing e.g. August/All too well, etc.)

So first of all, love love LOVED this update and am already far too eager for the next one hahaha. Second of all, if its not too spoilery I have a question about our besties Joony:

So post-The Incident, it kind of seems like Joony thought the tension between Qiu and MC was...juvenile isn't the right word, but with the two of them not getting into what actually happened, from Joony's POV it probably just looked like the kind of fight a lot of high school couples get into when things are stressful. Shitty, painful, but rarely so significant that it's worth leaving things on that kind of note. And they also seem genuinely remorseful when they see MC's reaction and realize too late that they overstepped. With that in mind, would Joony still have told Qiu about MC leaving for the US if they'd known the full scope of The Incident and the aftermath?

Oh, obsessed with this headcanon.

I don't think Joony thought of it as juvenile/not a big deal, but they just had no idea what happened between Qiu x MC, and wouldn't have guessed that it was so heavy. Also they were 18 then, and truly Joony still believed that everything in life could be fixed.

I think Joony was just like, "c'mon, y'all were so close, and you're leaving for four years. Don't leave like this." And you're absolutely right, when they see MC's reaction they're like oh fuck. Is there something here that I didn't understand??

If they understood the full context, they definitely wouldn't have gone and unilaterally told Qiu about the gathering without asking MC first, but they definitely would've have asked MC to consider inviting Qiu.

You're sitting on your bed with Joony, the both of you listening to music together. Joony scratches their head, and props their head up on an elbow.

You know they get like this when they're trying to muster up the courage to say something, so you just nudge them with a foot. "What? Spit it out. You look constipated."

Joony bites their lip. "I was just thinking about..." they pause, and after a long silence, they try again, meeting your gaze. "Are you really going to leave for NY without telling Qiu?"

Immediately, your entire body stiffens. "Yes," you say, expression hardening.

Joony takes one look at your face, and expels a huff of breath. "Wow," they breathe. "Okay. Got it." They lean in closer to you, your shoulders touching. A new song comes on, and you let the music slowly wash over you, feeling it slowly soothe over the burning in your chest.
