it’s just so incredibly painful watching the videos of people melting down and asking him to do cheesy poses and asking really leading questions about eddie and steve (which make me want to die inside oh my GOD) but also like HELLO it’s new joseph quinn content soooooooo

being in fandom for as long as i have (ugh i know i sound pretentious shut up) means it’s still hard for me to listen to people geek out in person?? i just get second hand cringe SO hard. i grew up where you hid that shit and only let it out in private or on the internet to Your People. i love going to cons, but god, sometimes people just go so hard and it hurts me on a deep level lmao

Is it one thing to change certain aspects of a character, and even downright mischaracterise them, while aware that said character, canonically, isn't like that, and coming from a place of love. I know that the version of Enjolras that lives in my head is not quite exactly canon, but I don't see him the way I do only because I find Aaron Tveit incredibly hot which i do or because I want to be edgy; my version of Enjolras stems from the fact that I see certain parts myself in him, and so his character gets all warped in my head. And that's fine! So many people, consciously in fandom and unconsciously every day, see themselves in fictional characters and thus end up changing them, however purposefully or not. That's the beauty of fiction! And if you're in fandom, as long as you realise that such characterisation isn't completely canon, especially with such beloved and important characters like anyone in Les Mis, it is perfectly alright.

However, if you butcher a character's whole personality and essence while not actually knowing nor caring at all about them, and with the only reason being that the actor that plays them is attractive, then we're gonna have a problem. Moreso if, again, said character carries so much importance in what he signifies and represents, and has done so for more than 150 years.
