#300 #366photochallenge A selection from today’s walk beside the lake. 1. That light reflecting on the water is Moonshine. 2. The lake. This time of late afternoon by the water is simply magical. As well as the lovely light, reflections and soft colouring of the trees, the sound of all the birds calling to each other and saying goodbye to the day is really special to hear. . 3. #238 of #366project2020 Photos 1 and 2 No matter which way I look there is rippling water and racing clouds across a moody sky. We didn’t see many of the boat people on our run this morning - I think they’d battened down the hatches and were staying inside their narrow boats. . But this view is always changing because the narrow boats that moor up on the towpath are only permitted to stay in one place for up to 14 days, then they must move on to a new place to tie up. . . Many of the boat people seem to have Monday as their moving day - there are often a lot more boats passing by on Mondays. . . 3. Sunflower It was evening so this could do with brightening up a little but even so on a dull and windy evening it was lovely to be greeted by the cheery yellow sunflower head dancing and bobbing around in the wind. . 4. Me! I’ve cut my hair a little! Floss is like a magnet for horses - they are intrigued by her and have to come over to check her out. Luckily for once Floss just looked and did not bark. Day 128/366. Floss and I walked in the smaller wood today. . 1. There are a few bluebells still looking bright and pretty. 2. And 3. We tried taking selfies in the woods. . 4. This clapperboard arrived today from @designmuseum ! I thought it might be fun to use when making videos! But I love anything vintage film or camera anyway. 5. Sunset was pretty from the balcony this evening. I took my cup of tea up and carried on working at the table. It is warm there in the afternoons and evenings as the balcony catches the sun and sitting working to a background of birdsong and the coots fluttering about on the canal, sorting out the pecking order, and hooting like bicycle horns is just lovely! 6. It’s a special moon this evening. Big, white and bright. This iPhone photo does not do really it justice. 7. Day 6 1st photo: My favourite corner or shelfie. . Well the corners are slightly strange in this house as we are mid-terrace the house is built more of a parallelogram rather than square shaped house. So corners are not the usual angle. So here is a favourite area that seems to have evolved its own floral theme. It’s actually one of the few tidy parts of the house as I am also doing some space clearing and reorganising.. The photos following are a second shelfie - this is my shelf with lots of precious bits and pieces on it and then on the shelf above , just a couple of model trains - that shelf is mr JGP’s - not mine! 3,4,5,6 photos are a selection from our exercise walk this morning. Bluebells are coming into flower nicely and the huge chestnut tree in the corner of the woods is coming into leaf. The other photo here is the view of the canal taken from the upstairs blue painted balcony. We overlook some office buildings but I can blinker those out and I only see the canal!!. Sometimes our weekly or daily rituals need to change a little to accommodate new things.. . Ironing is usually carried out once a week in an evening but now it’s being done more often and during the day. . Sometimes it is life’s little rituals that help us to keep our sanity when everything around us is moving so fast and perhaps difficult to understand. . . Tidying up, putting things in order, space clearing.. . Day 65/366 Whenever I can, I try to go and visit my 100 year old mother-in-law at the weekend. Today I was able to pop in at lunchtime. The original version of this photograph was on her windowsill. And this is my digital iPhone photo of the original printed photograph. The youngest child, front left, with the short brown hair is my (now 100 year old) mother-in-law when she was aged around 6 or 7 yrs old. She was the youngest of 7 children. All shown here with her parents. I love the formality of the original photograph and at first I was a little disappointed that there is a reflection of me making my photo now showing in my photo of the original photograph. But after looking a little more closely I realise that, I really like that I have become part of the original photo and I especially like that you can see a reflection of my hands in it. The hands, to me, now look as though I am nurturing the children in the original photograph in my own hands, especially Rebecca, my mother-in-law. For me this symbolises that I cherish the friendship I have with the remarkable 100 year old lady. And the original photograph once again, demonstrates that photographs so often become more precious as time passes.. . And this is another reason why I love photographing families and weddings. The thing is not everyone feels really comfortable having their photograph taken. Some people just feel really nervous, uncomfortable or even stagestruck as soon as the camera comes out. They might worry about how that's going to look in the photos, whether they're going to look really false and starchy and maybe not at all natural. But the thing is, you don't have to be standing there smiling, looking straight at the camera to get a good photograph. This wedding couple were both really nervous about the photography. In fact sadly, the groom’s father had died only a few weeks before the wedding day. And I knew they wanted lovely natural photographs to help them remember the day and all that is important about being together and with their friends and family Message me if you’d like to learn more about how I work and the steps to help relax the nerves. Day6/366: So today was a dull and grey - a grey winter’s day. I’ve photographed this tree last winter when I found it at in the early evening , silhouetted against a blazing red sunset. No sunset today but I liked the structure of the tree’s branches against the grey winter sky. I may be late to the party but I’ve just found these:- Little melting pots for Babybell cheeses for use only in the microwave! This is not just about the Babybells - its Babybells that include a cute little microwaveable Babybell-sized special melting bowl to melt the little round cheeses in - just microwave for about 20seconds. I’m so delighted I just had to share a new achievement. I belong to The Master Photographers Association (The MPA). Each month we can submit photographs from recent weddings, for critique by one of the senior MPA judges and to be judged with other MPA top wedding photographers. The standard is very high and the competition is very tough. I entered an image from a recent wedding at The Orangery in Holland Park. And I’m very proud to have won Highly Commended for my photograph here of bride and groom Lizzie and Richard on their wedding day: As a professional wedding photographer I love to create a moment in time to photograph that may not have happened without my creativity or input: This photograph may look like I just happened to notice the bride and groom walking away from me and happened to photograph them as they happened to naturally look round. Well no. That is not what happened! I had been capturing photographs of the bride and groom in another part of the grounds but I was looking to find better light. I then noticed the path leading up the steps. I suggested that the wedding couple might like to walk up the steps. I kept my distance to give them some time together and because I wanted to include plenty of the pretty gardens around them. They were enjoying chatting about the day so far after an exciting morning. I waited until they were in just the best place for light and location before calling their names and asking them to pause for a moment. When they looked back to camera, I was ready to capture the photograph and freeze this moment in time.
