↳ ❝ [a love story - 3.] ¡!❞
Hank Voight x Kazuha Takahashi (asian ofc)
Summary: Kazuha is going to deliver some coffee at Intelligence, though there is one thing she has to keep in mind: desk sergeant Trudy Platt.
Warnings: None
Wordcount: 0.8k

♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
I really hate to admit it, but Hank Voight is becoming the highlight of my day. I look forward to seeing his face in the cafe and if I’m really lucky, I see him before I go to work. I wave at him, he waves back, we exchanges smiles from our respective sides of the street, before we go our own way.
‘Get that smirk off your face,’ Josie interrupts my beautiful daydream where I am on a date with Hank Voight. ‘I bet it’s daddy Voight getting you all smiley.’
‘What did I say to you?’ I ask. ‘Don’t call him that.’
But that command falls to deaf ears.
I prepare the carton holder, where I’m putting in six of the cups. I hold the hazelnut latte in my hand and say: ‘Be right back.’
‘You tell me if he undressed you with his eyes when you entered the room.’
‘I highly doubt he will do that,’ I say. ‘I assume Hank Voight is a very respectful man. Besides, we barely texted after the last time.’
She shoots me an annoyed look. ‘Well, I can tell you took extra good care in your appearance,’ she says. ‘I know you are better in heels than in flats, but these heeled boots are reserved for special dates, am I right.’
‘Shut up,’ I say, walking away from her, though I must applaud her for her sharp eye.
‘I bet you’ll get arrested for that outfit. Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur,’ she singsongs.
‘I’m not even wearing jeans, let alone apple bottom jeans and the boots are without the fur.’
‘Well you get me. I don’t know a song about a scandalous crop top.’
‘I’ll be back in a few,’ I say, ignoring her completely. She winks at me and I stick out my tongue, before making my way over to the police station.
I’ve never been into a police station, but it’s not a maze. It’s pretty straight forward. When I walk in, I see a desk with a woman behind it. She looks like the woman Hank told me about. ‘Hello,’ I say, causing her to look up. ‘Hi, are you perhaps Trudy Platt?’
From the looks of it, she is not in a good mood. ‘What do you want?’
I’ll take that as a yes. ‘I have a coffee order for the Intelligence unit. I brought you a hazelnut latte.’
‘You brought me a hazelnut latte?’ She cocks not just one eyebrow, but two. ‘You thought you could bribe me?’
I blink my eyes as I’m trying to think what to say to her. She sure is intimidating. ‘No… I… Sergeant Voight said to bring you a hazelnut latte. I even brought you a brownie. That’s my treat.’
A few agonizing seconds pass. She’s either impressed or is gonna kick me out.
‘You’re an angel,’ sergeant Platt says. A smile appears on her face, making her a lot more approachable. ‘I honestly needed this so much. Everyone around this joint is awful.’
I chuckle. ‘I put a lot of love and patience in it.’ I place the latte on the desk.
‘I absolutely love you,’ she says. ‘What’s your name?’
‘Kazuha. I work at the Java Cup.’
‘You’re a cutie. You can always bother me at the desk. I’ll buzz you up, honey.’
I made friends with the desk sergeant.
I suppose that is quite the accomplishment.
I pull open the iron door after I hear a buzz and make my way upstairs. I hear familiar voices, though they come to an abrupt halt once they hear someone’s approaching. Those boots might not have fur, but they do announce my presence.
‘I sure hope I am not interrupting,’ I say, as I make my way into the so called bullpen. My eyes meet Hank’s and I smile. ‘But I brought coffee.’
Hailey smiles widely when she sees me. ‘Kazuha from the Java Cup. Is that…?’
‘Your chai latte? It sure is.’
She stands up and helps me with the carton holder. I recognize the rest, as Josie has helped a few of them. Adam, Kevin, Jay and Kim all gather around us and I hand them all their respective coffees. I grab the last cup and walk over to the sergeant. ‘Here you go,’ I say, giving him his double espresso. ‘I’ve put it all on the tab.’
Hank nod.
I lower my voice when I say: ‘Oh, thanks for the hazelnut latte tip. Sergeant Platt loves me. Thinks I’m a cutie.’
Before he can say something to it, Adam says: ‘You know, I can get used to it.’
‘Don’t give him my number,’ I say to Hank, as I am making my way towards the stairs again. ‘I only do deliveries when there are six coffees and that man,’—I point to Adam—‘will take advantage of it.’
I leave a smiling and caffeinated Intelligence unit behind as I walk down the stairs.

October studyblr challenge by @studynostalgic
So I think I'm gonna do this, it's a few minutes before midnight where I am so I can actually start on time:
Day 1: What do you hope to achieve this October? Include some autumn activities.
I really want to finally finish moving into my "new" room. I also want to perhaps do some autumn decorations and make some spooky treats.
I also hope to have a good start into the new semester, starting on the 14th.
I also really wanna ace my semantics presentation and the paper I have to write for that course.
Lastly I want to finish the online Java course I'm doing right now and seriously get started on learning dutch.
Wish me luck my friends
Love, Josy

There are several important places in Floribeth's story. Most of them fall within the TVDEU and the books (TVD, The Secret Circle, Night World, The Forbidden Game and Dark Visions) but there are also crossover elements going on with First Kill and True Blood respectively; most info comes from the respective wikias and * denotes a personal headcanon.
Maple Hollows, South Carolina: Floribeth's hometown. She was the one to tell Josie about the 'biggest ball of yarn in the country'.*
Grove Hill, Virginia: Jeremy Gilbert found Floribeth at the Grove Hill Trauma Center after she escaped the Triad Industries Detention Center.*
Mystic Falls, Virginia: Home to numerous shops and establishments like The Grill, Mystic Falls High and the Salvatore Boarding School. The game store More Games can also be found there.*
Chance Harbor, Washington: The home of the Chance Harbor Circle and Selena Harman's hometown.* Establishments include Chance Harbor High School, the Boathouse Bar & Grill (located down at the Sunset Marina), Java Brew, the Abandoned Carnival, the Abandoned House (also known as the headquarters of the Chance Harbor Circle), Wilson's Antique Shop and the Crowhaven Motel.*
Fort Valley, Georgia: One of Derek Machado's known locations.*
Savannah, Georgia: Home to Maya Machado and her mother after they moved away from Mystic Falls. Home to the Burns family and the Fairmont family. Derek's last known (and seemingly permanent) location.*
New Orleans, Louisiana: Home to numerous factions and families, including the Mikaelsons, Marcel's vampires, the Crescent Wolf Pack, the French Quarter Coven and tons of humans.
Shreveport, Louisiana: Home to establishments such as Fangtasia, the Moon Goddess Emporium, the Dorchester Hotel and the Styx Rivers Suites Motel (known for catering to vampires).
The Dark Dimension: Another dimension that can only be accessed through Demon Gates or a Malivore Pit. The Dark Dimension consists of three parts: the City of Darkness (located in the upper hemisphere of the Dark Dimension), the Underworld (located in the lower hemisphere of the Dark Dimension - Malivore is also part of this*) and the Celestial Court (which can be found to the south of the Dark Dimension).
The Night World: An underground society made up of different kinds of supernatural creatures (also known as Night People) like vampires, werewolves, witches and shapeshifters. It is a secret society amongst the humans world. Night People are governed by laws and the Night World Council makes sure that those rules are adhered to.
The Dark Kingdom: It is a secret Night World kingdom established in the mountains near Washington State. It was founded by Chervil Redfern, son of Hunter Redfern, and his companions. It was ruled by Chervil's descendants until finally coming to an end with the toppling of its rulers.

TikTok’s ‘Edward’ trend inspires viral Starbucks coffee order
What The Frapp?
Dripping in extra whipped cream, caramel syrup drizzle, pumps of cinnamon dulce and honey, five bananas and more — this sticky, tricky Starbucks order has social media percolating.
And the TikTok trend that inspired the messy mix is enough to make even the most seasoned barista need a post-shift drink.
Josie, a Starbucks employee, took to Twitter over the weekend, venting about the complicated Venti Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino that a customer named Edward had ordered.
“On [today’s] episode of why I wanna quit my job,” the coffee-craftswoman complained in a now-viral tweet Saturday.
His digital grievance was accompanied by a snapshot of “Edward’s double blended” drink and the 13 sweetly specific ingredients it commanded — a recipe that evidently peeved Josie.
But Edward’s busy Starbucks beverage is just one of the many that have been inspired by a new TikTok trend, which encourages coffee-lovers to get outlandishly creative with their orders.
Under the hashtag #Starbucks, imaginative content creators are sharing hundreds of customized drinks from the café chain’s unofficial “secret menu” that their followers and fellow patrons can purchase.
The good news is: coffee fiends are finding funky ways to jazz up their java.
The bad news is: baristas abhor making these elaborate, time-consuming treats.
“This order comes in every other week,” a fellow Starbucks staffer tweeted, empathizing with Josie via a picture of a Green Tea Creme Frappuccino with 29 supplementary specifications.
“I raise you this,” another coffee maker carped, alongside a flick of a Caffè Misto with over 30 additional demands.
And customers who are waiting behind the “Edwards” of the world aren’t fond of the TikTok coffee craze either.
“I was behind a woman who had an order that ridiculous and insisted it be heated to 37 degrees celsius ..’not 36, not 38–I will KNOW the difference,’ ” one patron said in response to Josie’s tweet.
“The Starbucks employee asked for her name..her reply “Sexy Vivacious,” she lamented, adding the eye-rolling emoji for emphasis.

So far, Josie is taking the new-found Twitter fame in stride. But the loyal barista just hopes he doesn’t get fired for spilling the beans about Starbucks’s overly-crafty clientele.

Masterlist // One Chicago Masterlist // a love story masterlist
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
‘So basically she is this close of dating the Hank Voight,’ Josie says to our friend Wendy as we’re sitting outside in the sun. We’re having some lunch at one of our favorite places and the weather is so absolutely amazing—not too warm, but also not too cold—that I’m enjoying my time outside and am not a drenched and sweaty mess.
‘No way,’ Wendy says. ‘I hate how we haven’t seen each other for so long! Look what I’m missing.’
‘You’re just too busy with your fancy job at that law firm,’ Josie says. ‘I highly recommend working at the Java Cup with us so we can gossip all day.’
Wendy was originally Josie’s friend, but after bonding with Josie over work, Wendy and I naturally became friends as well. She’s our token white friend, the one with no sense of rhythm and can’t handle spicy food.
We love her for it.
‘Tempting,’ Wendy says. ‘I’ve heard the name Hank Voight so many times, I had no idea what to expect and then I saw him.’ She bites her fist. ‘I mean, I am in a very happy relationship, but that man.’ Wendy continues to fan herself and I roll my eyes.
‘I would risk it all for him,’ Josie says. ‘Thanks to our sweet Kazuha I see him on a daily basis almost.’
‘But you went on a date with him,’ Wendy says, ‘but that’s it?’
‘Well, a girl was shot,’ I say. ‘That kinda broke the magic of our date. I might be highly inexperienced, but part of me actually thought we would kiss.’
Josie groans. ‘I already heard the details, but it still gets to me.’
As time passes by, we eat our food and continue to order a refreshing drink after another. It’s nice the three of us can meet again and we take ridiculous selfie and now Wendy has my phone as she films me and Josie.
‘You two have the same mannerisms,’ Wendy notes. ‘I conclude you two are spending too much time together.’
Right when Josie wants to say something, we all hear loud bangs, almost like gunshots rapidly following one another. ‘Down, down,’ I exclaim and the three of us quickly hide underneath the table. We hear deafening screams once the gunshots die down and a car rapidly makes it way. ‘Are you okay?’ I ask my friends, who both nod, clutching their hearts.
But I can’t just sit here doing nothing. I crawl from underneath the table and after I told my friends to call 911, I rush over to the restaurant next to us, where I can see tons of people on the floor. They’re breathing, but I witness blood scattered all around the people.
I untie the thin cardigan from my hips, realizing I am going through a lot of my cardigans if I keep up with this rate of helping people. A woman holds my hand when I try to stop the bleeding.
But when I look around me, I realize tons of people need help.
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
It all happened so fast and it all happened in a blur. I stare at the scene, as paramedics are helping everyone. I’ve spoken to a few cops now, already sharing my statement multiple times. I stare at my hands, that are covered in blood. My white pants is filthy and my shirt and chest are also covered in the dark red color of blood of who knows how many people.
‘Kazuha!’ I hear from behind me and I turn around, seeing it’s Hank. ‘Are you okay?’ he asks me, once he’s close and he holds my upper arms in his hands.
‘I’m fine,’ I say.
‘The blood…’
‘It’s not mine,’ I tell him. ’I think the shooting came from a black SUV.’
He shakes his head. ‘Wait, wait, wait.’ I want to continue with my statement, though I already told it to someone else, but he folds his arms around my upper body, pulling me close to his frame.
Not caring I’m smeared in blood, because I feel his hand on the back of my head and his fingers massage my scalp in an attempt to sooth me.
And it works.
I close my eyes as I nuzzle against his shoulder, letting out a tense exhale. I wish this could last forever, however we part at the same time. ‘Thank you,’ I say, clearing my throat.
‘We’ve got your statement,’ Hank says. ‘Do you want me to drive you home?’
I shake my head. ‘No, my friends are here. We’ll drive home together. If… Can you…’ I groan, as words are stuck.
‘If we need your help, we’ll let you know,’ he says. ‘And if I hear about the victims, I’ll keep you posted.’
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
After masterfully scrubbing the blood of my body and washing my clothes (and calming down my grandparents), I lock myself up in my room. I sit on my windowsill, going through my phone. I answer Josie and Wendy, who are both pretty shaken up.
As I’m closing apps, I see my photo roll, so I decide to check it out, realizing Wendy was taking a video of me and Josie. I continue to play and replay, before I realize I might have something valuable on it. I send it to Hank, before I call him.
‘Yes?’ Hank asks when he picks up.
‘Did you get my message?’
‘I barely got time to check it out.’
‘I’m sorry.’
‘No, no, I’ll check it out now. Don’t hang up.’ I hear some background noise, before he says: ‘A video?’
‘Yeah, and you can see the black SUV I told you about, including the driver.’
‘I’ll call you back.’
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
Hank didn’t call me back, however I don’t want to pry and push, so I decide to just let it go. Instead, I cooked with grandma, FaceTimed with Josie and Wendy and when I’m in my bed, my phone rings. ‘Hi,’ I say, after I saw who called me.
‘Hi,’ I hear that familiar raspy and husky voice say. ‘How are you?’
‘I’m okay.’
‘Are you sure?’
I shake my head. ‘I don’t know.’ I lean against the headboard of my bed. ‘A lot happened today.’
‘I know,’ he says. ‘Want to hear something?’
‘Sure.’
‘Thanks to your video and your tip, we managed to catch the offenders.’
‘Already?’ I ask.
‘Yeah, I just wanted to let you know,’ Hank says. ‘I did tell you I would call you back.’
I smile. ‘Thank you, Hank.’
‘I’ll make it up to you, okay?’
‘No,’ I say. ‘Don’t. I… Just be careful.’
I can hear him smile when he says: ‘I always do.’

The Best Programming Languages to Learn, According to HubSpot Software Engineers
When Liam Harwood, a Software Engineer at HubSpot, was in elementary school, he loved playing video games. But unlike most kids his age, he also created them. As a 10 year-old, Liam would spend hours hunkered over an old computer in his basement, coding simple games in QBASIC or Quick Beginner's All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code.
Liam quickly mastered QBASIC and created the most advanced games he could in the rudimentary language. But coding basic games didn’t scratch his creative itch anymore. He had visions for more sophisticated games and projects he wanted to develop, so, at the age of 13, he decided to teach himself as many programming languages as possible, like HTML, Javascript, Java, and Python, among others. By the time Liam graduated high school, his insatiable curiosity and unwavering passion helped him earn a full computer science scholarship to attend Marist College.
Today, Liam is a software engineer on HubSpot’s Design Platform team, where he works on the backend of our Design Tools, Template Marketplace, and other design-related services.
Now -- who says video games just rot your brain?
If you aspire to become a successful software engineer like Liam, but you haven’t learned any programming languages yet, don’t feel pressured to follow his exact path and learn every language under the sun. In fact, if you’re a beginner, Liam recommends only learning three.
“For anyone who wants to dive head first into the technical side of things and really understand how their programs work, I would start with C. It keeps things simple and straightforward, and is the closest a beginner would want to get to writing pure machine code. It also forms the basis for most modern programming language syntax, giving you the skills that can easily be applied to other languages,” he says. “On the other hand, Python may be a good choice for beginners because it has a very simple and digestible syntax, as well as extensive libraries that can help simplify complicated computations. Lastly, Java is another good choice because it’s one of the most widely used languages -- I use it here at HubSpot -- and similar to C, it teaches you fundamental skills that can be applied to other languages.”
Like Liam, a lot of software engineers agree that C, Python, and Java are the best languages to learn as a beginner -- they can help you grasp the fundamental coding skills needed to pick up other, more robust languages. But some software engineers argue that honing your programing skills requires an even more foundational understanding of computer science. According to Josie Barth, a Software Engineer on HubSpot’s Big Data Infrastructure team, learning the principles of computer science -- not specific languages -- is what will sharpen your programing skills the most.
“While it’s common to get started learning on an object oriented language, like C++ or Java, I think it’s less about learning a specific programming language and more about learning the foundations of computer science, like data structures, algorithms, discrete math, operating systems, computation theory, and more,” she says. “I also wouldn’t necessarily bucket programming languages as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. You choose programming languages based on the kind of tasks you want to do. But there are definitely easier languages to get started on. For example, Java might be easier to get started on than C++ because Java abstracts certain concepts away, but if you needed to program within finer control of the machinery in mind, you’d likely use C++ over Java.”
So while learning specific languages will help refine your programming skills, mastering the fundamentals of computer science will help you reach your potential more than anything else. Because before Liam Hardwood was coding the backend of HubSpot’s Design Platform, he was programming simple video games on a dusty computer in his basement, building his foundational skills with an old language that was considered outdated, even back then.
However, this still begs the question …
Which programming language should you learn first?
If you’re a beginner, most software engineers recommend learning C, Python, or Java first. Below, we’ll give you a rundown of each of these programming languages, describing what they’re used for and how much demand they have in the software engineering labor market.
5 of the Best Programming Languages to Learn
Java
Python
JavaScript
C/C++
C#
1. Java
The Java Virtual Machine lets Java run on virtually any hardware and operating system, making it the most widely used programming language by businesses in the world. And with over 90% of Fortune 500 companies using Java to develop the backend of their applications and 62,000 Java programming jobs posted on Indeed.com last year -- the most out of any language -- Java will be in high demand for a long time.
2. Python
Python has a very simple and digestible syntax, as well as extensive libraries that can help simplify complicated computations, allowing you to hit the ground running when you want to learn other languages.
As a general programming language, Python is mostly used for web development and support for software engineers, but it’s also used a lot in machine learning, which helped it become the second most sought after programming language on Indeed.com, with 46,000 jobs advertised on the online job board.
3. JavaScript
Used to develop the front end of most business’ applications, JavaScript is one of the most popular programming languages out there. 4. C/C++
C is the most simple and straightforward programming language around, and it also forms the foundation for most modern programming language syntax, giving you fundamental skills that can easily be applied to other languages.
A successor of C, C++ is an object oriented language, which aims to represent real-life objects as code and is more equipped for developing sophisticated applications, like system or application software, video games, drivers, client-server applications, and embedded firmware. Last year, over 31,000 C++ programming jobs were posted on Indeed.com.
5. C#
Another successor of the C programming language, C# is an object oriented language that’s intuitive to learn, making it the fifth most popular programming language for building software. Microsoft developed C# to run on their .NET platform, and it’s heavily used in video game development. Last year, over 28,000 C# programming jobs were posted on Indeed.com.

@TVGuideMagazine @Kyle_MacLachlan & @DAVID_LYNCH on the long-awaited return of #TwinPeaks.
When David Lynch and Mark Frost’s surreal Twin Peaks debuted on ABC in April 1990, the nascent World Wide Web was not yet a delivery service for instant feedback—or spoilers. Audiences found themselves frustrated yet intrigued with having to wait, week after week, to learn clues about the trippy show’s central mystery: Who bumped off small-town bad girl Laura Palmer (played by Sheryl Lee)? But even in today’s era of information overload, Showtime has unveiled only the most cryptic of teasers about the much-anticipated 18-episode revival, leaving fans waiting yet again.
Returning star Kyle MacLachlan, who revisits his lead role as unorthodox FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, also has remained mum on what Coop’s beat will be. Is there a new murder? Is java-loving Agent Cooper still seeing apparitions? Will anyone’s deceased soul find its way into a drawer’s knob? (Yes, that actually happened—along with jazzy dance breaks, soul-stealing supernatural entities in jean jackets and lots of ebullient appreciation of doughnuts and sandwiches.) “I wish I could tell you more,” the actor says with a laugh. “I’m just incredibly excited about what people’s response is going to be.”
Here’s what’s known: It’s now 25 years after the Northwest community of Twin Peaks parsed out the demise of homecoming queen Palmer, with her last seven days rumored to provide a crucial clue to the new narrative. Lynch is directing and cowriting—with producing partner Frost—all 18 installments of the limited series. So how was it to be back in the director’s chair? “Close to heaven on Earth,” says Lynch (below, with the late Miguel Ferrer). “It’s like a feature film divided into parts, so in order for it to hold together, it should be [made] by the same bunch.”
In fact, fan faves such as Mädchen Amick (Shelley), Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey), Kimmy Robertson (Lucy), Harry Goaz (Deputy Andy), Dana Ashbrook (Bobby) and James Marshall (James) are all back. “We’d see each other, and within seconds it’d be like no time had passed at all,” says Lynch, who also reprises his role as comically hard-of-hearing FBI Chief Gordon Cole. Plus, a bevy of new faces in secret roles adds star power to the 217-person cast, including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Naomi Watts, Richard Chamberlain, Ashley Judd and Laura Dern.
This incarnation also marks a TV milestone: The first two parts are making their debut this month at the Cannes Film Festival, the first time in the fest’s 70 years that series television will be shown alongside glitzy gala movie premieres.
“I love revisiting the world and the characters of Twin Peaks,” Lynch says, noting the reboot might not all be set in the town we once knew. Given the various celebrations and fan sites in the show’s honor, so do many viewers. How good is your recall on Twin Peaks?
Here’s your ultimate A-to-Z guide to the seminal drama—including some cool trivia. Cherry pie and cup of joe optional. (Additional reporting by Jeff Pfeiffer)
Angelo Badalamenti The American composer nabbed a Best Pop Instrumental Grammy in 1991 for Twin Peaks’ haunting main theme. Another fun fact: He’s scored six of Lynch’s films and even has a small role in one of them: 2001’s Mulholland Drive.
BOB, aka Killer BOB This evil ghoul from the supernatural realm (Frank Silva, left) possessed Laura’s tortured dad, Leland Palmer (Ray Wise), and eventually, per the final moments of the ABC series, Agent Cooper. Lynch cast Peaks’ set decorator Silva in the pivotal role after spotting him in a mirror’s reflection, which would later—prophetically—become BOB’s creepy visual signature.
Carlton Cuse The Bates Motel cocreator admitted, “We pretty much ripped off Twin Peaks” to capture the tone of the Psycho prequel. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Diane Keaton The Oscar-winning actress directed the not-very-well-received Season 2 episode “Slaves and Masters,” which wrapped up shady businessman Ben Horne’s (Richard Beymer) bizarre delusion that he was a Civil War hero.
Emmys Peaks won a pair of trophies (for costuming and editing) but was nominated for a whopping 18 total, including drama series, leading actor (MacLachlan), leading actress (Piper Laurie as Catherine Martell, the town’s sullen saw mill proprietor) and supporting actress (Fenn, as teenage seductress Audrey Horne).
Fire Walk With Me The maligned 1992 big-screen prequel film—which has since developed nearly as much of a cult following as the series—starred Lynch, Kiefer Sutherland and singer Chris Isaak as agents investigating the murder of Teresa Banks (the show’s other initial murder case) and tied into the last week of Laura Palmer’s short life.
Great Northern Now known as the Salish Lodge and often flocked to by superfans, the rustic inn seen in the lush opening credits has been renovated into a chic resort and spa that overlooks the Snoqualmie Falls near Seattle.
Horne’s Department Store Audrey’s job at her dad’s retail outlet in Season 1 led from her becoming a swoony Lolita-type into a full-fledged spy, infiltrating his secret brothel after discovering that salesgirls were being lured into prostitution. Scandalous!
Invitation to Love The faux soap opera watched by several Peaks characters often mimicked the series’ own storylines, including one involving a twin cousin. (Lee also played Laura Palmer’s more demure, brunette cousin, Maddy Ferguson.)
Johnson, Shelley After auditioning for the role of winsome high schooler Donna (played by Lara Flynn Boyle, who is not returning for the revival), newcomer Amick (now starring on Riverdale) so wowed the producers that they created the role of put-upon Double R Diner waitress Shelley just for her. She quickly became adored by fans.
Kiana Lodge The Poulsbo, Washington, locale was used for the Great Northern’s interior shots and as the Blue Pine Lodge, which was a residence shared by Catherine, her goofy fisherman husband, Pete (Jack Nance), and the sultry Josie (Joan Chen), a Chinese émigré with a dodgy past who famously kept a low profile in the industrial township.
Log Lady The recently departed Catherine E. Coulson’s memorably deadpan mystic—who shared a very special connection to her beloved wood—helped Cooper by giving him clues throughout Laura’s murder investigation. The Log Lady (seen right) was famously spoofed in an episode of the Rob Morrow series Northern Exposure.
Man from Another Place, The As the key resident of Cooper’s dream-induced Red Room, Michael J. Anderson’s scary-cool “dancing dwarf” spoke in backward riddles and proclamations. (Our favorite: “That gum you like is going to come back in style.”) He later inspired a memorable bit on The Simpsons.
Northwest Passage This was the original name of the pilot script written by Lynch and co-creator Frost. Not as catchy!
One-Eyed Jacks Owned by Ben Horne and run by madam Blackie O’Reilly (Victoria Catlin), this casino was best known for peddling drugs and hookers and, most importantly, for being one of the last places its young employee Laura Palmer was seen alive.
Project Blue Book Agent Cooper was briefed on this real-life 1950s–1960s secret probe into UFOs conducted by the U.S. government, which he was told included activity around the perimeter of Twin Peaks—hence all the ghostly goings-on.
Queen of Diamonds The famous playing-card royal served as inspiration for Audrey’s outfit at One-Eyed Jacks on her first night as a new hostess…which almost ends with Audrey’s being “broken in” by the owner, who is (gasp) her father!
Roadhouse The show’s biker bar hosted several clandestine rendezvous, as well as Cooper’s meeting with the Giant (the main figure in Cooper’s many dream states), the ill-fated Miss Twin Peaks pageant and musical performances by Julee Cruise’s ethereal house chanteuse (who also sings Peaks’ main theme, “Falling”).
Silent curtain runners High-strung town weirdo Nadine (Wendy Robie) served as its resident inventor too, including this unusual solution for the screech heard when opening draperies.
TV Guide Magazine Twin Peaks placed No. 20 in our 2004 countdown of TV’s Top 25 Cult Shows. (Yes, we know it should have been higher!)
Uproar What happened when fans didn’t find out who killed Laura in the Season 1 finale or even the Season 2 premiere. BOB’s deadly deed was finally revealed in the November 10, 1990, episode, but by then, the low ratings proved more lethal than he was.
Violence Despite the fact the primetime show was on a broadcast network shackled with standards-and-practices regulations, eyebrows were routinely raised for its unflinching portrayals of domestic abuse, electroshock torture and, indelibly, the signature image of Laura Palmer nestled in a body bag.
Wrapped in Plastic This same image in the show inspired the title of rocker/devoted fan Marilyn Manson’s 1994 song about dysfunction, which also samples Laura’s screams from the series finale. A meta treat for fans.
X-Files Before the truth was out there, David Duchovny (left)—then dating actress Robertson, who plays baby-voiced police secretary Lucy—made his television debut portraying trans FBI agent Denise Bryson.
Yamaguchi, Fumio The actor credited with playing Season 2’s mysterious Japanese real estate investor “Mr. Tojamura” turned out to be a fake! All along, it was series regular Piper Laurie’s believed-to-be-dead Catherine in full-on Mission: Impossible–level disguise. Had us fooled!
Zen It proved to be the preferred mental state of dogged crime fighter Agent Cooper, whether he was calmly dictating into his prized tape recorder or hanging upside down to meditate. Will he still be as cool 25 years later?
