Japanese Kanji/Word of the day!
目 (め)
JPLT N5: Vocabulary
Kanji pronunciation: "me-y"
Meaning: eyes, vision, eyesight
Caution: this kanji is only for describing the physical eye, not to be confused or used with "Megane" which is specs / eyewear.
めがね which means specs are is actually a different kanji all together!

To anybody out there studying Japanese with the Genki textbooks, I've created an Anki deck with all of the vocabulary and Kanji from the first Genki book! I have the 2nd edition books, so this will probably be slightly off if you use the 3rd edition, but I believe it covers mostly the same things. I make these cards as I go along with the book, so I can't promise a deck of the second volume anytime soon, but it will come... eventually! I'll come back to this post when that comes, but for now, here's the deck! https://app.box.com/s/9yitqcl2xpp698xn89588p5yai6imvhj

Will we have any Soshiro Hoshina stuff? I have seen that you might have moved on. I’m just questioning if we will have more of him since it’s been a while since nothing with nothing or maybe I have not been able to get to see. I am grateful if you respond to this. This is just a simple question.
Hi love,
I am currently taking some time off from writing in general (stress, writer's block, getting ready for a JPLT exam, etc)! But I love Soshiro just the same and of course I'll continue writing for him! In fact I'm counting the days for the Kaiju no. 8 movie next week! Maybe you haven't seen but one of the last fics I wrote was in fact for Soshiro, you can read it here! 💜

Language Learning Goals
Currently I'm learning German, Japanese, and recently decided to add Mandarin Chinese. I'm about at A2 for my German, starting N5 for my Japanese, and starting HSK 3.0 Band 1 for my Mandarin Chinese. I needed a place to collect all my thoughts and I figured someone else might be curious, so why not! I’m very excited to learn and I like the prospect of being able to communicate with others. I've always found other languages fascinating!
Mandarin Chinese:
-> For HSK 3.0 Band 1, I want to reach this around August 2025 - September 2025 (I'm picking around this date since Japanese seems to be going pretty well for me the past four-ish months so I think this is doable)
Their criteria is as follows:
to have 269 syllables(which I'm not entirely sure as to what that means so if anyone does, please lmk) ((unless does that mean how they pronounce things? like an alphabet of sorts??))
to know 300 characters and 500 vocabulary words
48 grammar (I'm assuming this means like rules/particles)
your handwriting must be faster than 10 character/min
you must have simple communication skills on familiar topics
basic knowledge of Chinese culture
Japanese:
-> For JPLT’s N5, I want to reach this around December 2024 - February 2025ish (I’m putting some buffer space because of university, but I could also finish early since my winter break is a month long so who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Their criteria is as follows:
be able to read and understand Hiragana and Katakana (been there done that, woooo)
understand topics regularly encountered in class and daily life
Get the gist of basic information when spoken slowly
100 kanji and 800 vocabulary words
German:
Now, I only know German because I took 3 years of it in high school and somehow I’m still at an A2 level🧍(we don’t talk about that, but my teacher wasn’t the best so-) I would like to continue to pursue it because of the familiarity and I do like the language (it’s easy for me to spell in and stuff, though it can be hard for me to read sometimes when the words get really long).
-> For Goethe Institute’s A2, I want to reach this by January 15, 2025 because that’s when my second semester starts and I’m taking Beginning German 2 (BECAUSE MY SPOKEN GERMAN SUCKS BOOTY, hmmm I wonder why…) so now is the time for me to improve it before the class.
Their criteria is as follows:
understand frequently used expressions
use simply language to describe background, family, and surroundings
topics directly related to the speaker’s circumstances(shopping, work, etc.)
understood in simple and direct exchange of info on familiar and common topics
other things associated with immediate needs expressed in a simple way
That's all, thanks for reading :D

My JLPT N1 Test Results for 2023
I finally got my results back from the JPLT N1 exam I took in December 2023, and the results were not surprsingly.
I failed, as expected.
However, the results were not what I expected:
CategoryResultsVocab / grammar28 / 60 (pass)Reading7 / 60 (not pass)Listening26 / 60 (pass)Total Score61 / 180 (100 needed to pass)
I had expected to fail listening more so than reading, the listening section…

*he jplts from Neb suddenly speaking before calming himself* Hi Neb...an anon gave it to me. I know it's supposed to be a self defense weapon, but it feels... strange to put it one way.
I can feel a bit of a strange energy from it, almost otherworldly.
(so, mod got into OFF, a game that has a banger soundtrack, but apart from that beng the only thing I know about it, it has a sense of morality)
Neb visits Yarnor to see how he's doing
*Yarnor is...doing. He's laying face up pondering things like being a crown bearer, several events in the past, and this new bat, which feels....off*
