Klub Kubo's latest Q&A
The other day I posted about the latest Q&A and what it revealed about the quincy arrows and overall powers. <(a link) But the factoid that most people are discussing is related to Yhwach's Shrifts.
Aka the powers he grants to his chosen Sternritter, the elites of his quincy army. Such as Uryu's "A the antithesis" or Haschwalth's "B the Balance".
Going by story alone it's portrayed as quincy exclusive but Kubo revealed that it actually isn't. It's only exclusive in the sense that he's exclusively giving it to his chosen soldiers.
Tumblr media
Truth be told I do not see the issue here for a few reasons given in-story.
1) Yhwach is the founding father of the quincy race. He sees them as his "precious sons" or "children" because they are. Every quincy carries his blood in their veins.
I know some question the quincy timeline lately and even if it's revealed that Yhwach isn't the "first quincy" it doesn't change the fact that he's the source of the "current quincy".
He can give them power or take it. It also makes sense as to why he'd exclusively give them shrifts.
Tumblr media
2) Yhwach's whole origin story and base power is the ability to divvy up his soul and give it to others.
I highly doubt the village he was born into was a quincy village. They were just people but people that he granted powers and healing to. And once they died he took his soul back along with the power and knowledge that person developed.
It's perfectly in-line with his abilities that he could, should he choose, give a shrift to other beings. He simply won't because they aren't his quincy.
And even if he did he'd likely use said individual and take the power back in short order.

This vid does offer a few other neat Kubo facts but this is the one that grabbed my attention.

So, Yhwach's name in Japanese is pronounced "ユーハバッハ/yuuhabahha." This is seemingly due to the "wach" part of it being pronounced the German way, and Japanese employing betacism (using Bs for Vs) on top of rendering the "ch" fricative at the end with a breathy "hha."
So in English, you'd get "yuuhavahhk" (the hhk at the end being how I'm trying to represent the guttural ch noise, which the IPA transcribes as /x/).
But I've recently seen some people posit that Yhwach's name, when spoken in English, is actually supposed to maintain the B-sound that is found in the Japanese pronunciation "yuuhabahha" because Kubo consistently always uses "ヴ/V" kana when there should be a V sound in a character's name. Such as...
Loly Aivirrne (アイヴァーン/aivaan)
Ggio-Vega (ヴェガ/vega)
Invaders Must Die (インヴェイダーズ/inveidaazu)
Even Haschwalth (ハッシュヴァルト/hasshuvaruto) and Wandenreich (ヴァンデンライヒ/vandenraihi) use V kana, while Yhwach doesn't.
...and since Yhwach doesn't have a ヴ/V kana, but does have the バ/B kana, it's an indication that it intentionally should be pronounced with the B regardless of what language you're speaking.
Which I thought was an interesting observation, though not an airtight one, as he still does use B kana to represent V noises in many resurreccion names.
Volcánica (ボルカニカ/borukanika)
Cierva (シエルバ/shieruba)
Veruga (ベルーガ/beruuga).
(Though, interestingly, in Spanish the letters B and V are pronounced nearly identically anyway, so Kubo probably didn't feel it necessary to make a distinction here since they're all Spanish terms?)
But it did leave me wondering why Yhwach does have a B kana in his name despite other names and terms immediately related to him using V.
And the only reasons I could come up with are:
It's to indicate that his name is much older than others, to the point that more modern conventions hadn't been brought about when he named himself. (I don't think this is that likely since YHWH's name itself is rendered with a ヴ/V kana, and that name predates even Yhwach's.)
Kubo just thought having a バ between the ハs looked more aesthetically pleasing.
The shapes of the kana ユ, ハ, and バ themselves give off a sort of Hebrew silhouette as well, while ヴ kinda doesn't, and since Yhwach's name is derived from YHWH (יהוה‎), that is probably intentional.
Now a quick search on Wikipedia tells me that the letter that represents the V sound in modern Hebrew (ב)* used to represent the B sound in ancient Hebrew -- and continued to do so for a time if geminated or following a consonant (which the "V" in Yh'v'ach technically does).
*=I also think it's funny how ב looks like ユ.
With that in mind, I suppose one could say that Kubo was possibly trying to do some fun linguistics thing where he applies German phonology to a Hebraic-inspired name, but utilizes ancient Hebrew pronunciation in recognition of Yhwach's age. So the end result is you get a German word -- "wach" -- that's pronounced "bach" due to how betacism used to be employed in Hebrew.
Which is fun in a super roundabout way.
All this is to say, I still think Yhwach's name should be pronounced "yuuhavahhk" outside of Japanese (besides the places where the language conflates Vs and Bs anyway, I guess), but this was a fun topic to delve into.
Though whether it should be a V or a B sound, I think we can all agree that the English dub keeping the "hha" at the end is objectively stupid, since it's obviously supposed to be the /x/ fricative. Even the Japanese actors sound like they understand they're supposed to be approximating a "ch" sound there.

Bleach TYBW ep 7 spoilers
Spoiler ! (I don't know how to put the banner)
Sooo, Tite Kubo promised that there would be some extra information and scenes in the anime.
A flashback of the first Goteï 13 is very nice !
But of all the thongs that Kubo sensei choose to show us, he decided to explain why Chôjiro had to go down first.
And I find it hilarious to find out that it's because Juha Bach has still been salty about being backstabbed by a guy that should have been dead XD
Chôjiro is a hero and a new meme lord now =')

The Secret of Yhwach's Mother & Ichibei's SCARY TRUTH !!
youtube comments
My theory on Yhwach. The Reio seperated his fear of death from himself in order to be a ideal saviour for the bleach world. Since Reio embodies the power to combat the fear of death Yhwach was defenceless baby with no connection to the world without his non working senses. Since the Reio didn't fear death he didn't care when the Tsunayashiro clan took advantage of him since the fear of death is what drives one for progress. Baby Yhwach would either end up dying or upon seperation he would become apart of the circulation of souls in the world. I theorize that Yhwach is Bleach's virgin birth since he is an evil Jesus anyways. Rumors spread of this miracle baby and he gains a cult following. Thus the Quincy are born.
7 days ago Well that would fit with Pernida, the "Progress" arm of the SK siding with Yhwach
Pernida is evolution. But why evolve when you have no will to live? You wouldn't constantly fight to preserve your existence without fear so you wouldn't wish to evolve anyways. In other words Reio didn't use his OP power to rightfully preserve his existence.

💭 + the gotei 13 ( maybe their over reliance on a teenager too )
| | |  @kamisword  | | |   ᴘʀᴏᴍᴘᴛ:   ᴀᴄᴄᴇᴘᴛɪɴɢ   !
Tumblr media
Ichigo has a ... complicated relationship with the Gotei 13,   to say the least.   From being introduced to them as an enemy,   to being relied upon because of his latent ability as a War Potential,   to being spied on by them incase he ever went rogue.   His trust in the Gotei has garnered and wavered multiple times over the years,   as the difference in ideals between Ichigo and the organization always tend to differ.   After the time without his powers,   and aging properly,   becoming more mature and self aware,   he has reflected on some of the ... questional tactics the Gotei has employed over the years.   From willing to execute Rukia so effortlessly,   to exterminating the Quincies and starting the entire war in the first place.
His biggest grievance has surely been the Combat Pass acting as a device to spy on Ichigo,   as well as limit his abilities somewhat,   because deep down they never trusted him in the first place.   Because of their experiences with Ginjou,   it’s sort of understandable,   but still doesn’t justify lying straight to his face for several years,   while also leaning their lives onto his 15 year old shoulders ...
That’s another thing Ichigo is wary of,   as a kid he was used by the Gotei to win a war he wasn’t supposed to be part of.   Made to give up his own happiness,   life,   and powers just to protect them,   because none of them could overcome Sosuke Aizen,   a problem they also created.   It’s truly unfair how much this organization has truly groomed Ichigo into viewing himself as expendable,   meant as a weapon of War to fight for them,   even though they’ve only ever done the minimum to gain is respect and appreciation.   Sure they gave him his powers back,   but it took 17 months of depression and self deprecation ( that they all knew about cause of him being spied on ) for them to take any action,   and even in the end it was only for him to execute Ginjou Kugo,   or be cut down himself with their full might.
There’s also the way they treated both Kisuke Urahara and the Vizards in the aftermath.   Some would say it’s not their fault but like ... it lowkey is and they never cared until Aizen revealed himself,   and even then they didn’t care until the Vizards and Kisuke helped in the war against Aizen and the Arrancar.
SO YEAH,   Ichigo has a very rocky relationship with the Gotei for good reason.
