Fun fact, Romeo was probably the first newsie I really got into (cuz he was played by Julian DeGuzman and Nico DeJesus and as a pinoy I love seeing Filipinos succeed) so he’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Another fun fact: Spencer’s Romeo terrified me when I first saw him — it was the first time I’d ever considered Romeo a threatening character which was an interesting choice.

99 things I've noticed in newsies live, but I'm autistic, Part 1:

1. For some reason, Jack and Crutchie seemed to be sleeping on the fire escape or the roof of some kind

2. The lighting is amazing! The blue lights with an orange background (which is kinda like Jack is blue and Crutchie is orange) but it also show sunrise.

3. This is so random but I know they make the newsies shave their facial hair to seem younger but they made Jeremy Jordan shave under his arms as well.

4. The watch me stand bit is the only part of the musical for the next 30 minutes Andrew isn't smiling

5. Sky and Ben's voices

6. Mush/Nick checking out Albert's/Sky's ass.

7. Finch appears out of nowhere just to yell at Albert

8. Sky seemed to have trouble with his suspenders so they just cut half of it out

9. Buttons had his hat in this back pocket idk if that's important

10. Mike and Ike switch hats and so do Henry and Mush on the other side

11. Crutchie polishing his crutch with his vest

12. Why does Mush have a stick?

13. Buttons scratching his head, the dude has unlimited fleas

14. Buttons just letting the newsies do whatever, also Chaz having to flitch his eyes when Iain throws his had over his eyes, like he's going to hit him

15. Anthony hitting Chaz's head so gently, like bro, what happened in rehersals for them to be so gentle with the dude

17. Jack tieing Crutchies shoe and sniffing his feet

18. Crutchie stealing Finch's slingshot and shooting him, when Finch comes back to get him, Jack spins him.

22. Iain Young is so much taller than I thought, when you see them all line up before the bridge, you notice he's just as tall as Jordan and Jeremy. Also his hair is so curly I love it

39. I just noticed which one was Oscar which one was Morris, I always assumed the one with the vest was Oscar cause he was taller and Oscar is the oldest? But no, the one with the suspenders is Oscar, and I swear I'm not the only one that has made that mistake.

41. Fun fact, Oscar and Morris are Weasles nephews.

Literally all Oscar did was push Race slightly cause he was in his personal space, and Morris decides to throw Crutchie to the ground for no reason, Oscar then has to rush over to stop any fight between Race and Morris because his brother was being a moron. Poor Oscar ends up with a crutch to the shin even though he did nothing wrong. Poor bastard did nothing wrong so far lmao.

Patrick “Finch” Cortez is wasian, half Filipino half white. Personally? I want it to be a Germanic country.

Finch’s mama is Filipino so everyone thank Ms. Cortez right now I’m so for real.

She spoke to him in Tagalog sometimes and did cook some Filipino dishes but he can’t remember it all in detail. He misses it, he just doesn’t know where to get it.

Finch can’t speak Tagalog. He’s too embarrassed to learn and he’s kind of got some kind of internal racism going on which sucks because Filipinos 🔛🔝!!!

Compared to Romeo and Smalls, I think he’s actively hiding the fact he’s Filipino. He really doesn’t have because I don’t believe newsies ask about it often but Finch avoids the topic altogether.

His slingshot reminds me of the Filipino homemade shakers made out of a stick and bottle caps.

I feel like when he joined the newsies he abandoned that part of himself until Romeo showed interest in his own Filipino culture and Smalls was there to teach both of them.

Romeo is 100% Filipino. Mom and Pops are Pinoy as hell and so is he.

He’s sort of like Finch and he doesn’t know much about his culture since he lived with the Manhattanites almost his entire life.

He’s not fluent in Tagalog but is trying his best once he starts learning.

Romeo is overall an excited little bug and likes his culture because to him it just gives him another connection, another reason to feel like he belongs somewhere after being in limbo for so long.

He loses it when he finds out about the food. To me? Romeo is an entire hungry little munchkin and he absolutely loses it when he finds out what lechon is.

I feel like he’d be really good at Tinikling and really enjoy it.

When Smalls offers to teach him about his culture, Romeo is so friendly with Smalls, he’s so excited and happy to learn and make a new friend through that.

Smalls is also 100% Filipino, but only lived with his dad, older brother, and little brother before his dad kicked him out.

He’s fluent in Tagalog and is an active participant with being able to cook Filipino dishes as well as having a baro’t saya in his past (He’s aiming to get himself a barong one day.)

After he was kicked out and went to Manhattan for refuge in the midst of becoming the new leader of the Bronx newsies, being able to find Romeo and Finch was a massive comfort to him.

Smalls in my head is ftm (Sorry girlsies! I just y’know with Julian DeGuzman.) and because I struggle with this, Smalls struggles to changing his pronouns when referring to himself in Tagalog. He’s so used to being referred to and having to refer to himself as she/her it’s hard. (I specifically struggle with this when speaking French)
