Amelia hated to admit it, but she felt bad for Klaus. She watched the way his jaw would clench when he’d join them and Maylin would tell him about their day. As much as she didn’t get along with him, she’d be jealous too if the roles were reversed, and she had to admit, he handled it really well. To her knowledge, Maylin hadn’t noticed him acting any different around them, and honestly, she probably wouldn’t have if she hadn’t been looking for it already. With a deep sigh, she turned to face him after Maylin excused herself to check her bread, “You should tell her.” Klaus flinched, spilling some of his coffee on the table, “Excuse me?” Amelia rolled her mismatched eyes, “Dude, clean that up, I just cleaned that table.” Klaus’s cheeks flushed as he shot her a blue glare, quickly using a napkin to wipe the table, “What do you want, Amelia?” “For you to pack your bags and go back to your brother’s house, but we both know that isn’t happening.” Amelia glanced over her shoulder to see Maylin was still in the kitchen in the back of the cafe, she’d prefer for her wife not to hear their conversation. “So, just tell her. It’s painful to watch you be so in love with my wife. You make a dumb face whenever she tells you about anything we do together, your eye twitches when she giggles at my jokes, and honestly it’s annoyingly noticeable.” She felt her annoyance build when Klaus looked up at her like she had two heads. “You want me to tell your wife that I’m in love with her?” Amelia crossed her arms over her chest, “Gods don’t say it slow like I can’t understand you! Ugh, yes! I want you to stop brooding about having feelings for her and just tell her. You’re insufferable to watch, you’re like a kicked puppy.” Klaus crossed his own arms and eyed her suspiciously, “And what do you gain from all this? Her kicking me out when she gets uncomfortable with my feelings?” Amelia groaned, why did he have to assume everyone had ulterior motives. “Look, you don’t have to trust me, but I really am just tried of seeing you act like a kicked puppy. I get how it feels to be watching her from the sidelines, and I don’t think she’d toss you to the wolves for liking her. Even if I asked her to.” The two quickly turned to the back of the café as Maylin rushed out with a large tray, “It almost burnt, but I saved it! Oh, was I interrupting something?” Amelia smiled softly at her wife, “No, you could never be an interruption.” Maylin eyed the two curiously, but shrugged as Klaus added, “We were discussing today’s chore schedule.”

María Félix (Doña Barbara, La Mujer sin Alma, Rio Escondido, La Cucaracha)—Maria Felix is still possibly the most well-known Mexican film actress. She turned down multiple-roles in Hollywood and a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer in order to take roles in Mexico, France, and Argentine throughout the 1940s, 50s, 60s. She was so famous and so respected as a dramatic actress that she inspired painters, novelists and poets in their own art--she was painted by Diego Rivera, Jose Orozco, Bridget Tichenor. The novelist Carlos Fuentes used her as inspiration for his protagonist in Zona Sagrada. She inspired an entire collection by Hermes. In the late 1960s Cartier made her a custom collection of reptile themed jewels. She considered herself to be powerful challenger of morality and femininity in Mexico & worldwide--she routinely played powerful women in roles with challenging moral choices and free sexuality. But even still, years after he death, she is celebrated with Google Doodles, and appearances in the movie Coco, and holidays for the anniversary of her death.

Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins)—Oh where to start .... I'm not sure I even know how. She's just perfection. And it's not fair I can't bring post 70s work into this, because she just gets better and better, and her drag performance in to die for. But in the era I CAN talk about, she shows she has THE RANGE. María Félix is one of the most iconic actresses of the Golden Era of Mexican Cinema. La Doña, as she was lovingly nicknamed, only had one son, and when her first marriage ended in divorce her ex-husband stole her only child, so she vowed that one day she’d be more influential than her ex and she’d get her son back. AND SHE DID! María Félix rejected a Hollywood acting role to start her acting career in Mexico on her own terms with El Peñón de las Ánimas (The Rock of Souls) starring alongside actor, and future third husband, Jorge Negrete. She quickly rose to incredible heights both in Mexico and abroad, later on rejecting a Hollywood starring role (Duel in the Sun) as she was already committed to the movie Enamorada at the planned filming time. Of this snubbing she said, quote: “I will never regret saying no to Hollywood, because my career in Europe was focused in [high] quality cinema. [My] india* roles are made in my country, and [my] queen roles are abroad.” (Translator notes: here the “india” role means interpreting a lower-class Mexican woman, usually thought of indigenous/native/mixed descent —which she had interpreted and reinvented throughout her acting career in Mexico— and what abroad was typically considered the Mexican woman stereotype, with the braids, long simple skirts, and sandals. This also references the expectation of her possibly helping Hollywood in perpetuating this stereotype for American audiences that lack the cultural and historical contexts of this type of role which would undermine her own efforts against this type of Mexican stereotypes while working in Europe) She was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world of her time by international magazines like Life, París Match, and Esquire, and was a muse to a vast number of songwriters (including her second husband Agustin Lara,), artists, designers, and writers. Muralist Diego Rivera described her as “a monstrously perfect being. She’s an exemplary being that drives all other human beings to put as much effort as possible to be like her”. "Yes, although I don't think it's really necessary here because it's so cold. In the mornings we always go into very cold water for one minute. It's good to wake up, to wake you up and to get you ready for the day."

It's been a long time since you've been with the national team. Has this change of context been good for you?

"Above all to get away from it all. It's true that in Barcelona I had injuries and relapses, but I wanted to come to the national team, to be here in a training camp with my teammates. I feel very comfortable and I'm getting better every day."

"That's right. A lot of coaches throughout my short career have asked me to do that. They've told me to get into the box a lot more, that I have to score goals and give assists. In that position it's much easier. Also, here I can play with Morata, who fixes the centre-backs very well. For a '10', having a striker like that makes everything much easier. It's a spectacle to play with Morata."

Which attacking midfielders does he look at?

"There are players who may not play in that position but have the qualities of a playmaker, like Musiala, a player who may play as a winger but can play inside. Or Wirtz himself. They are players who have been playing at a very high level for many years and you learn from them."

"These are two teams that have been very consistent, both in the group stage and in the round of 16. We've always played the same way, the same football, scoring goals and winning games a bit more calmly. That's why it's going to be a spectacular game."

Is there any other team that has caught your eye?

"Switzerland. We knew beforehand that they were a difficult team, but they are having a spectacular tournament and they are a tough opponent."

On this day, 15 July 1954, the right-wing dictatorship of general Francisco Franco amended the 1933 vagrancy law to criminalise homosexuality. The amendment also authorised the detention of all those convicted under the law in labour and concentration camps (content note: sexual violence). Over the next 25 years, around 5,000 LGBT+ people would be imprisoned – mostly gay and bisexual men and trans women. They were housed in specialist prisons in Huelva and Badajoz, and in a camp in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, and many were subjected to brutal sexual violence, and medical abuse like electric shock treatment. Most of those prosecuted for breaching the law were working class, and historian Pablo Fuentes told the Guardian that it was "not uncommon to hear homosexuals from the upper classes and the aristocracy speak about the Franco period as a great time." After Franco's death in 1975 and the subsequent fall of the dictatorship, political prisoners were released, but LGBT+ prisoners were not. The homophobic law was eventually overturned in 1979, although those imprisoned because of it were not recognised as victims of Francoism and awarded compensation until 2009. Speaking at a rally for America First, founder and white supremacist Nick Fuentes called for a holy war against Jews on Sunday evening as well as going on an antisemitic rant, followed by influencer Sneako appearing on stage and calling him the future President of the United States.

"If a Gentile hits a Jew, he must be killed," Fuentes said as he began his antisemitic rant. "But, when a Jew murders a Gentile, there will be no death penalty."

Fuentes founded America First, a far-right organization that has questioned the number of Jews who were killed in the Holocaust and believes that Israel has a malicious influence on US policy.

"Do you think it might be a problem that the people that are running your banks, that are making the movies your children watch...," Fuentes added. "Do you think it's a problem that they believe that all Christians must die? It's a big problem. It's a huge problem."

Fuentes is a known Holocaust denier who first gained prominence after participating in the white supremacist "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville in 2017 and was banned on Twitter in July 2021, amid the platform's crackdown on far-right extremists, particularly in the wake of the insurrection at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Holy war with Jews?

Fuentes went on in his speech to call for a holy war on Jews, saying, "We're in a holy war and I will tell you this. Because we're willing to die in the holy war, we will make them die in the holy war. And they will go down."

"We have God on our side," he continued. "They will go down with their Satanic master. They have no future in America. The enemies of Christ have no future in this world."
