Sims tag
Thanks for tagging me, @twofee!
1. what’s your favorite sims death?
If I need to kill a sim without cheats, then fire because it's quick and easy. In my normal gameplay, however, I'd say any death that feels random. Most of my sims live until the old age, so having the game pull the rug from under me is always exciting.
2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
A secret third thing aka my downloads folder is older than most modern CC systems.
3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?
No, I like the variety it adds.
4. Do you use move objects?
Yep, more often than not.
5. Favorite mod?
Traits, for sure.
6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?
Nightlife and Family Fun Stuff.
7.  Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?
aLIVE
8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
I haven't made sims in so long that I honestly don't have an answer to this question.
9.  Have you made a simself?
Nope.
10. What sims traits do you give yourself?
Hot-headed, socially awkward, artistic, handy, cat person.
11. Which is your favorite EA hair color?
Brown.
12. Favorite EA hair?
The soft looking male hair that came with Free Time. The one Julien Cooke has.
13. Favorite life stage?
Adult.
14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the game play?
Both.
15. Are you a CC creator?
No, aside from a couple of base game painting recolors.
16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sims squad?
I've known one person from simblr for a really long time, and we share some other fandoms, too, so I guess I have a friend.
17. What’s your favorite game (1,2,3,4)?
TS2, obviously.
18. Do you have any sims merch?
No.
19. Do you have a youtube for sims?
No, but I watch a lot of building videos by other people.
20. How has your “sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
I wouldn't say it did, although I pay more attention to the wants now.
21. What’s your origin ID?
Tumblr media
22. Who’s your favorite cc creator?
Anyone who adds preview pictures to their CC in jpeg format instead of png and doesn't use special characters in file names.
23. How long have you had a simblr?
Oof, wow, about nine years if I count my previous blog.
24. How do you edit your pictures?
I cut them down and adjust brightness in PS.
25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next?
Not relevant to TS2, but I guess I'm interested in other life simulation games that are in development now. Don't think I'll ever move on from TS2 as it's been my hobby for almost two decades now, but competition is good for the genre.

Vivien Leigh and Ralph Richardson in Anna Karenina (Julien Duvivier, 1948) Cast: Vivien Leigh, Ralph Richardson, Kieron Moore, Sally Ann Howes, Niall MacGinnis, Martita Hunt, Helen Haye, Patrick Skipwith. Screenplay: Jean Anouilh, Guy Morgan, Julien Duvivier, based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy. Cinematography: Henri Alekan. Art direction: Andrej Andrejew. Costume design: Cecil Beaton. Film editing: Russell Lloyd. Music: Constant Lambert.  Greta Garbo was the best reason for seeing Clarence Brown's 1935 version of Anna Karenina, but Ralph Richardson is the best argument for watching Julien Duvivier's. As Karenin, Richardson demonstrates an understanding of the character that Basil Rathbone failed to display in the earlier version. Rathbone played Karenin as a cuckold with a cold heart. Richardson wants us to see what Tolstoy found in Karenin: the wounded pride, the inability to stoop to tenderness that has been bred in him by long contact with Russian society and political status-seeking. Unfortunately, Richardson's performance exists in a rather dull adaptation of the novel. Although Vivien Leigh was certainly a tantalizing choice for the title role, she makes a fragile Anna -- no surprise, as she was recovering from tuberculosis, a miscarriage, and a bout with depression that seems to have begun her descent into bipolar disorder. At times, especially in the 19th-century gowns designed by Cecil Beaton, she evokes a little of the wit and backbone of Scarlett O'Hara, but she has no chemistry with her Vronsky, the otherwise unremembered Irish actor Kieron Moore. It's not surprising that producer Alexander Korda gave Moore third billing, promoting Richardson above him. The production, too, is rather drab, especially when compared to the opulence that MGM could provide in its 1935 heyday. There's a toy train early in the film that the special effects people try to pass off as full-size by hiding it behind an obviously artificial snowstorm. As usual, this Anna Karenina is all about building up to Anna's famous demise, this time by taking us into her foreboding nightmare about a railroad worker she saw at the beginning of her affair with Vronsky. And also as usual, the half of the novel dealing with Levin, Tolstoy's stand-in character, is scuttled. In this version, Levin is a balding middle-aged man whose only function is to be rejected by Kitty, who is then thrown over for Anna by Vronsky. There's a perfunctory scene that gives a happy ending to the Levin-Kitty story, but it adds nothing but length to the film. Some of the scenes featuring the supporting cast, especially those with Martita Hunt as Princess Betsy, bring the film to flickering life, but there aren't enough of them to overcome the general dullness.

The third season of EXTREME E is set to start this weekend in NEOM, promising to be even more action-packed than ever. To mark the occasion, ZENITH is offering the rare opportunity to acquire all four DEFY Extreme E Season 2 pieces numbered 0/20 in a one-of-a-kind box set. Ahead of the debut of the 2023 Extreme E championship, which ZENITH is proudly continuing to support as its Official Timekeeper and Founding Partner, the Manufacture is offering a unique opportunity to acquire all four editions of the DEFY Extreme E pieces in a single boxed set – all bearing the special limited edition number of “0/20”. Crafted in lightweight yet rugged carbon fibre and titanium and featuring the high-frequency 1/100th of a second El Primero 21 movement, each of the four pieces bears the official colours of a championship race: Yellow for Desert X Prix, orange for Island X Prix, purple for Energy X Prix and coppery-brown for Copper X Prix. Bringing sustainability and environmental awareness to the forefront of ZENITH and Extreme E’s partnership, the DEFY Extreme E limited editions are delivered with a rubber strap infused with materials of upcycled Continental CrossContact tires that were used in the first season’s races. These four watches come packaged in a suitably sturdy waterproof and crushproof watch case inspired by the extreme conditions of the rally, incorporating various upcycled elements from the side-lines of the first season’s races. The case’s lid coating is made from E-grip recycled tires, while the plate covering is made from parts of an Extreme E racing tarpaulin. In addition to the box set, the buyer will receive rare collectibles and gain access to unique experiences, including a helmet from season 2 signed by Extreme E teams and drivers. An invitation to one race from the upcoming Extreme E 2023 season is also offered as part of the set, complete with a VIP pass and accommodation aboard the St Helena ship for one night. The buyer will also have the opportunity to spend time with Extreme E founder Alejandro Agag and ZENITH CEO Julien Tornare on the sidelines of the race. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpw0zkuLWlB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Julien Temple Musicals: ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS (’86) and EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY (’88) By Raquel Stecher
Tumblr media
Director Julien Temple has built his filmmaking career showcasing creative types. Musicians are his forte, although he’s also made films about poets, filmmakers and other artists. Best known for his music videos, he’s directed artists such as the Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Billy Idol, Van Halen and Paul McCartney. He became interested in filmmaking when he discovered the work of French filmmaker Jean Vigo, whom he would later direct a biopic about. He began working alongside the Sex Pistols and made his debut feature film The Great Rock ’N’ Roll Swindle (’80) about the band’s tumultuous break-up.
Temple had a front row seat at a time when music was revolutionizing culture but was also interested in how the music of the past influenced the present. Among his films are two outliers, a pair of films inspired by Temple’s love of Hollywood musicals: ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS (’86) and EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY (’88). An homage to the early days of rock ‘n’ roll, ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS was an adaptation of Colin MacInnes’ 1959 novel. Set in 1958 during the time of the Notting Hill race riots, it explores the cultural revolution of the time, when jazz was falling out of favor, rock ‘n’ roll was making a scene and teenagers were being recognized as a major influence on popular culture. Eddie O’Connell stars as Colin, a photographer who falls in love with fashion designer Crepe Suzette (Patsy Kensit) and gets caught up in the local music scene. The film features performances by Sade and Davide Bowie, two musicians Temple had previous directed music videos for.
Tumblr media
According to the website Supajam, ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS was at the time “the most expensive British film ever made.” When the shooting wrapped, Temple was fired. He had no involvement with the final editing, which was handled by three different editors. The end result was a musical that strayed from Temple’s vision. In an interview, Temple called the production “a half-nightmare, half-dream” and said that he wishes it would have come out differently. The film was a flop and bankrupted British movie studio Goldcrest Film International. Temple goes on to say in his interview with Supajam, “It was strange being accused of destroying the British film industry… for many decades, it seemed to be circling Pluto, but it seems to have made its way a bit closer back towards Earth these days.”
The film caught the eye of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Temple is quoted as saying, “It turned out the Jackson family were fans, particularly Michael and Janet, who used to copy the dance sequences as it played on their cinema screen.” Temple went on to direct two music videos for Janet Jackson. “When I Think of You” pays homage to ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS urban setting and “Alright” is a throwback to the golden era of Hollywood musicals and features cameos by the Nicholas Brothers, Cab Calloway and Cyd Charisse.
When Temple left the UK to work in the US, he made another go at the musical feature film with EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY (’88). This science fiction romantic comedy musical hybrid starred then real-life couple Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum in their third picture together. Written by Julie Brown, Terrence E. McNally and Charlie Coffey, the story follows California girl Valerie (Geena Davis) who, in the midst of romantic turmoil, is visited by three furry aliens: Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans. The aliens are given a makeover to best resemble humans and they cause a ruckus in the Valley with their new look.
Tumblr media
The movie is chock full of 1980s esthetics and slang, making it a nostalgic delight for anyone who lived through, or just loves, that era. It even includes a cameo by the mysterious lady in pink Angelyne, who was herself a precursor to today’s celebrity influencers. The film also serves as a throwback to 1950s science fiction films like Forbidden Planet (’56) and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (’56). The trio of aliens learn human behavior and language from watching classics on television like Gun Fury (’53), Rebel Without a Cause (’55) and The Nutty Professor (’63).
Given his newfound reputation, Temple had a difficult time finding a studio or production company for the film. Warner Bros., MGM, 20th Century-Fox and New World Pictures all expressed interest but eventually turned it down. It was picked up by De Laurentiis Entertainment Group, which was set to distribute, but they filed for bankruptcy shortly after filming. The movie didn’t make a splash at the time, however it’s gone on to earn the cult classic status it so rightly deserves. EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY served as the inspiration for the Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea music video for “Pretty Girls” released in 2015.

Anna Karenina (Julien Duvivier, 1948)
Cast: Vivien Leigh, Ralph Richardson, Kieron Moore, Sally Ann Howes, Niall MacGinnis, Martita Hunt, Helen Haye, Patrick Skipwith. Screenplay: Jean Anouilh, Guy Morgan, Julien Duvivier, based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy. Cinematography: Henri Alekan. Art direction: Andrej Andrejew. Film editing: Russell Lloyd. Costume design: Cecil Beaton. Music: Constant Lambert. Greta Garbo is the best reason for seeing Clarence Brown's 1935 version of Anna Karenina, but Ralph Richardson is the best argument for watching this one. As Karenin, Richardson demonstrates an understanding of the character that Basil Rathbone failed to display in the earlier version. Rathbone played Karenin as a cuckold with a cold heart, but Richardson wants us to see what Tolstoy found in Karenin: the wounded pride, the inability to stoop to tenderness that has been bred in him by long contact with Russian society and political status-seeking. Unfortunately, Richardson's role exists in a rather dull adaptation of the novel, directed by Julien Duvivier from a screenplay he wrote with Jean Anouilh and Guy Morgan.

Summary: “There’s someone, right there, on the porch, hiding.”
or
sometimes the people you never knew existed have a funny way of showing up in your life.
//////////
Zane tapped his fingers on his thigh before finally leaning back and relaxing into his seat. Soft rock playing in the car as they drove through the city, the sun just beginning to set, and the sky getting ready to darken.
Cole’s voice came through the gentle atmosphere that had been built. “Ah, looks like she’s out already.”
The blonde looked over his shoulder, peering into the backseat. And sure enough their now sleeping six-year old was leaning to one side in her booster seat, eyes closed. The glittery flower and vine “tattoo” shining around the side of her left eye.
They were just coming home from the school’s spring pageant, that had admittedly ran a little long. But it was all worth it to have those memories of their daughter in a pretty lavender dress singing ‘Everything Grows’.
After all, those were moments that could never be replaced.
Smiling, he turned around, facing forward again. “It’s going to be quite the challenge cleaning all the glitter off of her face,” he said, chuckling.
Cole gave a fake heavy sigh, taking a peek at her in the rearview mirror. “You’re telling me!” He lifted a hand off the steering wheel, running it through his hair. “I thought it would have been harder just to make it stay on - it was coming off everywhere in the beginning. So, uh, don’t mind the mess in the bathroom.”
Zane hummed, closing his eyes. “You’re still cleaning it up.”
His husband scoffed. “Of course, punish the artist. It took real work making it look so pretty!”
“I know. It looks great.” he said, turning and giving Cole a smile.
The silence returned again, and Zane watched as the buildings disappeared, and the houses began to appear outside the passenger window.
He felt a hand wrap around his hand resting on his thigh. Zane gave a squeeze back before looking up at Cole again. He watched as Cole kept his eyes forward on the road, opening his mouth as to say something, before closing it again.
“What is it?”
“I was just thinking...maybe we should adopt again?”
“Hm? What brought this up?”
“I just think it’d be good for her, you know? I didn’t get to grow up with siblings and I wish sometimes that I did...besides, she’s getting older,” Cole suddenly jerked their clasped hands closer to his chest, startling Zane before continuing, “and I don’t think my heart will be able to handle her going into first grade next year!”
Zane pulled his hand back gently, Cole replacing his hand on the wheel as they rolled into their driveway. “Maybe,” the blonde said, a smile appearing on his lips.
Cole turned off the car, and Zane got off, opening the rear car door.
He gently unbuckled his daughter, careful not to wake her, before lifting her into his arms, her head on his shoulder.
Zane walked around the back of the car, about to make his way to the front door. “I just remembered that Kai, Nya, and Jay surely must have fulfilled the roles of sib- what’s wrong?”
Cole held his arm out in front of him, keeping him from walking any further. “Wait.”
Instinctively, he slightly tightened the hold on his child. But, Zane couldn’t see anything, or hear anything suspicious. The silence enveloped them for a few seconds, the blonde growing anxious as to why they were not moving - why they weren’t going inside the house.
Cole spoke very carefully, his words coming out in an urgent whisper.
“There’s someone, right there, on the porch.”
“Where?” he asked, trying to scan through the darkness.
“They’re lying there, on the ground. Trying to hide.” Cole’s tone strengthened at the end, before he started to move towards the door.
“Cole! Come back!”
But Zane’s frantic whispers were ignored, as Cole marched over to the porch, all tense, his fists clenched at the sides.
Zane held his breath as Cole stepped slowly onto the porch.
Making careful movements, he peered down at the floor, almost crouching before turning back to face him.
“It’s a kid....and they’re.... asleep? I think?” He said, calling out into the darkness.
Zane felt his heart restart, beating to ward off the cold feeling that had started to settle in his chest. He moved closer to the porch, keeping the hold on his daughter. He stood closer to Cole, finally catching a glimpse.
Sprawled out on the porch, using a backpack as a makeshift pillow, was this teenaged boy clothed in ripped jeans, a sweatshirt that appeared a size too big, and some worn converse high tops with brightly colored shoelaces. With one arm over his stomach, the other arm over his eyes, coupled with the sight of his calm expression - would have given anyone the impression that this boy was back at home, sleeping in his own bed.
“What do we do?” the blonde whispered in the dark.
Cole thought a moment before answering back. “I don’t know..he doesn’t seem to be danger-”
They were both surprised by the kid’s sudden jerk on the ground.
The noirette pushed Zane back behind him as the kid sat up, rubbing his eyes. He blinked a couple times before looking around, before his eyes traveled back up to Zane and Cole standing above him.
Nobody spoke.
“Um...excuse me, are you alright?” Cole asked, still wary of the stranger.
The teen’s voice broke through the silence, slightly higher than Zane expected, and much more embarrassed. “Oh...Oh! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to fall asleep here.” He placed an arm on the floor of the porch, trying to heave himself up onto his feet before Cole offered him a hand.
Now that he was standing, Zane realized he was much taller than how he looked on the ground. About as tall as him, almost as tall as Cole. His shy brown eyes looked down for a moment before turning back up.
“Do you need help?” Cole asked.
“Yes! Actually I came because-” the teen rummaged through his pants pocket for a second before pulling out a folded square of paper. He opened it before speaking again. “They gave me this address for someone I was looking for?...” he said, his voice trailing off.
Zane, who had remained almost completely quiet during this whole...encounter...decided to speak up.
“I’m afraid you might have the wrong address, I’ve lived here all my life.” He readjusted his grip on his daughter, trying not to jostle her too much.
“Oh....” The teen glanced at the number plate by the front door, “Isn’t this 4612 South Birchwood?”
“....Yes.” The blonde replied warily.
The stranger across from him piped up excitedly. “Maybe you can help me then!” Catching himself in his burst of energy, he paused a second before toning himself down a notch. “I’m actually looking for -” he glanced back at the paper again, “Charles Julien.”
“Actually-”
Zane was about to tell him, that, unfortunately, his father had passed away. But the next words were lost as soon as the teen spoke once again.
“I’m looking for him...because...well...
I’m his son.”
The cold slowly seeping back into his chest, Zane felt as if time had frozen - leaving him at a standstill.

Hehehe. >:D
Honestly, this was all inspired by the influx of Echo content brought on by angst week.
What do y’all think? Should I continue? :D
Edit 09/03: I made a part two :)
