"HOW DO YOU KISS A GIRL?" jungwon asked nervously, making you choke on your water. you coughed, trying to clear your throat.

"kiss?" you raised your eyebrows, feeling your heart sink. It was clear he liked someone else, asking such a basic question to you, his best friend and secret crush since age 5. your dream of romance shattered.

"yeah, kiss..." jungwon coughed awkwardly, making your heart heavier.

"oh..." your voice trailed off, thinking of what to say. "just go with the flow," you suggested. Jungwon thought for a moment and then paused.

"should I try with my crush, then?" he asked, leaving you puzzled.

"she's here?" you questioned, looking around the park.

"yeah, so should I?" Jungwon asked. your heart sank further, realizing he was about to kiss his crush right in front of you.

"yeah, you should," you replied, feeling burdened but determined to make Jungwon happy. Your hopes of him asking you out vanished.

and then it happened. In seconds of advising Jungwon to kiss his crush, you felt his lips on yours. everything clicked; you were his crush. It was unexpected, a rush of warmth flooding through you. his lips were soft against yours, and for a moment, the world stood still. frozen, you felt his cheeks burn as he pulled away.

"jungwon..." you began, but he interrupted.

"okay, if you don't have mutual-"

"I like you too, Jungwon. I've liked you since the beginning," you confessed, surprising him.

"me too," his cheeks flushed. "So, what are we?"

"maybe we'll figure it out after this," you said, leaning in for another kiss. the touch of his lips on yours sending a shiver down your spine, his lips perfectly fitting yours. everything was truly perfect.

you can feel the heat of jungwon’s blush against your fingertips as you cradle his face in your hands; the colour of your lipstick nearly blends into his flushed skin. “hold still,” you murmur, resisting the urge to laugh once again as jungwon continues to squirm. 

“i’m sorry,” he chuckles. his eyes shine as he smiles brightly, settling beside you once again. “it tickles.”

you turn to glance in the mirror across from you, using the opportunity to reapply the colour to your lips. little smudges against the corners of your mouth match the lipstick marks decorating jungwon’s face and neck. 

“this was your idea, you know,” you tease. jungwon’s smile grows when you wrap your arms around his shoulders, pressing yet another fleeting kiss to his cheek, just beneath his eye.

his laughter lingers in the room as you reach over to grab your phone, quickly opening your camera and propping it up against a nearby cup. jungwon shuffles across the couch next to you, gingerly wrapping his arms around your waist and propping his head against your shoulder.

you startle slightly when he leans in, pressing a chaste kiss against your neck. he moves so quickly you almost miss it entirely, had the evidence not been there in the form of a small smirk tugging at the corners of jungwon’s lips and a blush that threatens to crawl up to his ears. 

“are you ready?” he murmurs, relishing in the way your embarrassment mirrors his own.

turning to face jungwon once again, you can’t help but study his features. the universe seems to spread impossibly throughout his dark eyes. without the thick layer of makeup that usually coats his skin, you can see all of the “imperfections” that make him human. a hint of your lipstick mixes into the natural pink of his lips; the colour making them somehow even more inviting. 

a few more moments pass before you hum softly. “you’re missing something.” 

all of jungwon’s questions die on his tongue when you lean in. the soft gasp that catches in his throat makes you smirk against his skin. the stain the kiss leaves is deeper than the others; a faint mark of your lips against his skin now lingers. “there,” you murmur, nonchalantly turning back to readjust your phone’s camera angle. “now we’re ready.”

jungwon chuckles beneath his breath, leaning in to pull you into one final chaste kiss. “let’s make one of you next.”

a dark blush spreads across jungwon’s cheeks, staining the tips of his ears in a wash of bright pink. glancing down at the concrete below, he experimentally places one foot back onto the ground. you reassuringly squeeze his sides, smiling at him. “i’ve got you. i promise.”

with a soft nod and one last glance at the ground below, jungwon hesitantly pushes forwards until the wheels begin to glide across the concrete on their own. his shoes scrape against the grip tape as he readjusts his footing, trying to find a balance on the board. he cringes a little at the noise and his entire body feels tense, even as he slowly rolls to a stop, but his shoulders relax when you smile brightly at him. “how do you feel?”

“good,” jungwon replies, softly smiling back at you in return. his hands find yours, wasting no time in joining your fingers together. “it’s not as bad as i thought it would be.”

“i told you, it’s always scarier to think about than it is to do it.” jungwon freezes when you reach up to gently cup his cheek with your hand. your touch sends electricity coursing through him; you hold him captive with your gaze. he watches with wide eyes when you brush your hand against his cheek before carefully tucking a stray strand of hair behind his ear. his breath hitches when you lean in, just barely brushing your lips against his cheek - an act of stolen intimacy that makes his heart beat faster and his hands sweaty. 

“maybe next time i’ll teach you an ollie,” you tease. 

underneath the golden light from the streetlights above, only the stars bear witness to jungwon’s bright smile. “i would like that.”

JUNGWON SAT AT HIS usual spot in the school cafeteria, the chatter and clatter of trays and voices creating a familiar backdrop to his thoughts. lost in contemplation, he idly picked at his lunch, his mind wandering as he pondered the upcoming charity event. it wasn't until the arrival of his closest friends, sunoo and riki, that his tranquil lunchtime reverie was shattered.

their arrival was heralded by mischievous grins that spelled trouble from miles away. riki wasted no time in nudging jungwon with his elbow, a glint of excitement dancing in his eyes. "hey, jungwon, guess what?"

jungwon lifted his gaze, warily eyeing his friends. he knew that look, and it usually led to some sort of scheme. "what now, riki?" he asked, his voice tinged with cautious curiosity.

leaning in, riki's excitement bubbled over, practically vibrating in the air around them. "we've got some juicy gossip for you. you know that charity event the student council is organizing next week?"

"yeah," jungwon's interest was piqued, and he leaned forward, eager to hear more. "what about it?"

"well," sunoo drawled out, a smirk playing on his lips, "they're planning a kissing booth."

jungwon's heart skipped a beat. a kissing booth? that sounded... interesting. but then, realization dawned on him. "wait, you guys aren't suggesting what i think you are, are you?"

riki and sunoo exchanged a knowing glance before bursting into laughter, their amusement contagious. "bingo!" riki exclaimed between fits of giggles, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes.

"you're going to be the main attraction, jungwon," sunoo teased, slapping him on the back. "a dollar for a kiss with you."

the blood rushed to jungwon's cheeks, painting them a deep shade of crimson as he struggled to process the implications of his friends' words. a kissing booth meant... kissing someone. but who would be on the receiving end of those kisses? his mind immediately went to you, the object of his affections for the past two years.

he swallowed hard, trying to ignore the sudden flutter of excitement mixed with nerves in his stomach. "w-what if she doesn't want to kiss me?"

sunoo and riki exchanged amused glances before sunoo replied, "oh, trust us, she'll want to."

jungwon shot him a nervous smile, his eyes darting anxiously towards the approaching crowd. "i still can't believe you guys signed me up for this without even asking me," he muttered under his breath.

riki chuckled, slinging an arm around jungwon's shoulder. "come on, buddy, it's all in good fun! and who knows, maybe you'll finally get the chance to kiss your crush," he teased, nudging jungwon playfully.

jungwon's cheeks flushed scarlet at the mention of you. the mere thought of kissing you sent his heart into a frenzy of excitement and apprehension. he had admired you from afar for so long, never daring to confess his feelings. but now, with the prospect of actually kissing you dangling before him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of hope mingled with nervousness.

and then, as you stood face to face with the person behind the booth, you felt a jolt of recognition course through you. it was yang jungwon.

you smiled nervously, feeling a rush of excitement mixed with apprehension. this was it, the moment you had both feared and hoped for. with a shaky hand, you reached into your pocket and pulled out a dollar bill, holding it out to jungwon.

"ready for your kiss?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.

jungwon's breath caught in his throat as he leaned in, his heart hammering against his ribcage. and then, in a moment that felt like an eternity, his lips met yours in a gentle, tentative kiss.

standing in the middle of the hallway with sweaty and trembling hands, you thank heavens that you're alone there. well.. not alone completely.

there in front of you stood jungwon, the stuco president, looking directly at your eyes, in the search of some coherent explanation to the fact that you called him with the excuse "i have to tell you something important" just when he was about to close his locker to go home, but 5 minutes had passed and you were still trying to form a understandable sentence.

cursing mentally, 'i practiced this hundreds of times, come on!' you told yourself. of course you practiced this hundreds of times in the last two weeks but who, in their (in)sanity, would not forget almost everything in front of the person they like? not you, for sure.

jungwon seemed a little bit confused and you could easily tell that he wanted to go home by the way he furrowed his eyebrows and his stare went down to your feet up to your eyes again.

"what is it?" he asked, already getting tired of your preambles.

"I.." you went silent again. shyly looking at your shoes. jungwon's tired — and kinda annoyed — gaze was unnoticed by you, "I just can't bring myself to say it, but i swear it's important" you murmured and the boy in front of you felt guilty for slightly getting angry at you.

"it's okay. you can tell me tomorrow" he reassured you with an awkward smile, turning to walk away but you can't tell him tomorrow, you can't wait until tomorrow either. so, you grab his school's uniform shirt to stop him from taking another step. he turned around, a surprised expression on his face making you feel intimidated and immediately release your grip on his shirt.

"i can't really wait until tomorrow!" you started, your throat and lungs failing you when your voice cracked out nervousness, but that didn't stop you as you keep your posture, ready to say the four words that have been hanging on the tip of your tongue since the beginning of your junior year when you realized that jungwon, to you, was more than an acquaintance or a friend.

"i really like you" you closed your eyes, not because you were scared, but because it was a form of a shield which protected you from sturdy words and confessions, appeasing the impact they would have on you.

you did not fear what jungwon had to say, what you really feared is how much his words would hurt you, but being so focused on how to block the pain away didn't let you even process the words that let his heart-shaped lips:

"i think you're pretty, let's go out this weekend?" he looked so nonchalant with a small smile on his face, making you wonder if you were in a dream or you were just overreacting.

"oh, yeah. sure" short of words. you were short of words. "i'm free this weekend anyway" you mirrored his smile.

"let's go home now" he extended his hand, waiting for you to hold it. and you did, your smile growing wider.

you both walked hand in hand to the school's gates. having to part ways there due to the fact that your house was in the opposite direction from his. turning your back to him — not before saying good bye — jungwon smiled to himself, watching as the plushies hanging on your backpack jiggled with every step you took, eager to get home so you could text him, just as eager as he was to receive your texts and see you again.

“can i ask you a question?” you already ask, voice so quiet in the room bathed in the winter sunlight; your voice almost come out as a whisper.

with your back against the mattress, body perfectly hugged by a hoodie you bowered from your lover, who is mirroring your position— you can feel his head turn from the celling to you: “well you already did,” jungwon answers with a sly smile and you roll your eyes (you knew he was going to say that), “so go on, angel”

both of your elbows are resting on the same surface as your backs do, finger interlocked together. you suddenly feel shy and a calming, although full of thoughts, silence fills the room. and when it finally let your words be heard, your cheeks get a bit hot, “why do you love me?”

and, if jungwon would have to ask the same question, for sure you'd answer ‘because you never made me feel stupid or weird for asking too much things’ because the second your eyes lock with his, all your embarrassment goes away. reassuring eyes and comforting smile, he looks like he is genuinely thinking and is ready to answer.

“because,” he makes your hands fall into the bed, they bounce in a funny mention, “your hands and mine are a perfect fit,” he brings his locked hand to his heart, yours follows closely, “your heart and mine are a perfect match..” he lips press a tender kiss against the back of your hand, “so, i love you because the entire universe conspired to make me find you”

it would be an euphemism to say that your heart explodes in your chest— your lips shake from the smile you are desperately trying to keep away and you find nothing else to do but your face in your boyfriend chest, his laughter makes his chest vibrate as-well as it does with your heart.

with his hand on the back of your hair and the kiss he gives to the top of your head; jungwon built a home in your heart.
