More bonus headcanons for something I’m considering. May not end up in an actual Smiling Critters AU (if I make this into one), but more likely to appear in a oneshot or something.
Fuzzy Wuzzy
•One of the four miniature Huggy Wuggies
•Yellow fur
•Was the first one to trust and befriend Catnap after he defended them from a particularly rowdy and aggressive kid
•When carried by Catnap, Fuzzy is usually held in his left arm
•Enjoys reading books or listening to Catnap or others read to them (has started to take an interest in dinosaurs and other prehistoric life)
•Not a picky eater, but loves vegetable soup (don’t put a bowl near them without telling them wether or not it’s not for them, this child will also drink the broth)
•Likes quiet, calm moments so they can read in peace
•Terrified of doctors and the sight of medical tools, just like his siblings and Catnap
•Tends to cry when they’re overwhelmed by flashlight lights
•Introvert
Snoozy Woozy
•The second of the four miniature Huggy Wiggies
•Green fur
•Last to trust Catnap and was very defensive of his siblings when he didn’t
•When carried by Catnap, is usually sitting on his shoulders or holding onto his right shoulder
•Enjoys puzzles, and can most likely be seen putting one together by himself or with others
•A fairly picky eater, but loves grapes (will not eat stuff with too much sugar because the sugar will start to make his teeth feel cold and he hates it, and also hates certain “versions of certain flavors)
•Like his name suggests, really enjoys a nice nap when he can and is a pretty deep sleeper (as long as it’s only 20 minutes or he’ll wake up not know where he is, who he is, or what year it is for a moment)
•Terrified of doctors and surgery tools
•Very determined to protect his siblings and will always put himself between them and any threat
•Ambivert
Cuddly Wuddly
•The third of the miniature Huggy Wuggies
•Purple fur
•Third to trust Catnap
•When carried by Catnap, usually hold onto his left shoulder or lifted up by his tail
•Enjoys music (favorite instrument to listen to is the piano)
•Often a little scared to try new foods because they’re worried they won’t like it and upset the person who made it
•Likes to lay on top of or next to her siblings while she naps, it helps to know that someone’s nearby
•Also terrified of doctors and their tools
•Really likes water for some reason, but always asks Catnaps for permission first before trying to go in
•Ambivert
Sweetie Weetie
•The fourth of the miniature Huggy Wuggies
•Red fur
•Second to trust Catnap
•When carried by Catnap, is usually held in his right arm
•Really likes the idea of cooking and wants to learn
•Not very picky, but if it can be helped, there are certain flavors and foods they’d rather not eat
•Likes to help Catnap take care of their siblings when they can
•Just like their siblings, has a big fear of doctors and sharp tools
•Likes crystals or any rock they find to be cool and would bring one to their siblings and Catnap
•Extrovert
Again, these are IF I add them. If I decide I want to or if someone asks, I don’t mind explaining how they know Catnap.
I would love to write these four giving the other Smiling Critters a hard time and Catnap wakes up from a long-needed, well-deserved nap and goes “Littles?” to get their attention. In one second, the day-long chaos suddenly stops and the four rush to him acting all innocent. Catnap knows they’re not innocent in the havoc he walked in on, he just knows that they listen to him and not his friends.

It's the end of a long week,
so why not come visit,
just cuddle with us lemurs,
snoozy, and relaxed,
all nestled up against fur
and wrapped in tails,
long and slim and fuzzy,
just like yours,
aw, don't be shy,
you'll fit right in
with hands for feet,
bright round eyes,
more and more fluff,
all cosy and warm,
feels like home, yeah?
you're welcome to stay
and be a lemur~ <3

(yesterday)
I made a flourless chocolate torte for my moms birthday. It's the first cake-like thing and first torte I've ever made and it ended up well. I made the torte all by myself. I added raspberries to the torte and arranged a "58" on the torte itself, and on the sides for decoration. I showered for the first time in 6 days. I wrapped my brother's present(s) for my mom, one looked good because the bow turned out well and the other didn't turn out as well because the bow didn't really look like a bow. I played hostess for the beginning of the evening when mom had her friends over (less so after the cake). I saw hidden figures the night before, getting out at midnight to start mom's birthday with her. I paid for my own ticket. I had a bad dream that my mom was remarrying my ex-step-father and it was actually very unsettling and upset me quite a bit after I woke up. I had champagne for the first time and I was not particularly impressed. John Green made it sound really good but really it's just sparkling wine and I don't have much of a taste for wine yet. I went and got dinner for myself at canes and paid with a gift card. I napped for three hours. Mom & I hung out by the fire and we were each in our fuzzy blankets. The animals were similarly snoozy and comfy. We played taboo, my mom, brother, and I were on a team and we won. Laying in bed before going to sleep after the day I'm filled with plans and some energy even. I actually /want/ to go do things. I want to go to the gym and work out, not just the hot tub. I want to spend a day downtown going to the a couple movies and having lunch all by myself. I want to go bowling and hang out with friends. I have a hesitancy, no rather a concern or anxiety about spending next weekend at my dads. Not because of it being next weekend or what have you, but because I feel like I'm not as welcome and I haven't been living up to expectations recently, and I feel tension because of that. I did decently on my health/Fitbit goals for the day. Not all were reached, but it was far better than the last few days. I took antibiotics as prescribed and I'm already feeling the effects of it, and I have more energy and drive, though not always at the most convenient times, I wanted to write these thoughts down and I plan on sharing them at therapy on Tuesday if there's time.
#personal#I'm on mobile so I can't do a read more otherwise I would have sorry#don't reblog pls#this is more of a journal entry than anything else & I'm too tired to write it in my actual journal

Naps are really beneficial. Here's how to take them.

Naps are really beneficial. Here's how to take them.

Sneaking a little midday snooze feels unspeakably indulgent. While the rest of the world is hard at work or dealing with the drudgery of household chores, you’re snuggled up in your own cozy dream world. Whether it last a few minutes or a full REM cycle, boy, does it feel good to get away.
But naps aren’t always full of fuzzy sheep. Sometimes, you can’t drop off, or you fall so deeply asleep that waking feels like fighting the all-consuming pull of a black hole. No wonder scientists are divided on the health benefits of a dozy afternoon.
Friends and family members may suggest tips for hacking your way to better sleep, but what does the science say on napping? And how can you actually do it better? We took a look at the evidence.
The health effects of midday sleep
Ideally, everyone would get a perfect eight hours. We would all wake up like we imagine our ancestors once did, without an alarm, relying on only the pink streamers of early sunlight and the crowing of the birds to guide us back into the waking world. But that rarely happens.
In the United States, 15 million Americans work the graveyard shift, which puts them at higher risk for all manner of disease, including obesity and diabetes. And daytime workers have their own problems, including insomnia, poor time management, and shallow sleep. Artificial light, especially the blue light that illuminates our phones, doesn’t help either—it encourages us to stay up far later than our candle-loving ancestors did.
Naturally, catching up on sleep during the day has been heralded as one solution to our snoozy problems. Startups sell special workplace pods that would allow employees to take 20-minute naps in the office with relative privacy. The Google search “Can I nap at work?” turns up 39 million hits. The results are mostly advice on how to nap, with some legal advice on whether you can demand an in-office siesta (or conversely, if you can fire a napping employee) sprinkled in.
However, some research suggests that napping could have a dark side. Long daytime naps are associated with increased risk of death, particularly from respiratory illness, according to a longitudinal study in the United Kingdom that controlled for factors like age, weight, and income. But this study, which spooked many a reader in 2014, showed a correlation, not a causation. While more research still needs to be done, experts say that instead of naps causing disease, it’s possible that people who are developing respiratory conditions simply take more naps. Similar studies have found correlations with other health issues. For example, elderly Japanese people were more likely to nap regularly if they smoked or struggled with insomnia, among other problematic health factors. Napping didn’t cause these problems, per se, but it didn’t appear to fix them either.
Studies like these rightly complicate the notion of napping as cure-all, but other research has shown many benefits to naps—especially short ones. For example, over the course of a day, people’s ability to respond to stimuli—like an email from a coworker—naturally dwindles. A 2014 study in the journal Nature Neuroscience showed that people who took a 30-minute midday nap paused this decline in attention, and those who snoozed for 60 minutesactually reversed some of that day’s deterioration. Different studies have shown other positive impacts of catnaps. For people with depression, napping seems to help refocus attention away from bad experiences. Napping can assist airline pilots and their flight crew to get through grueling shifts with their mental states relatively intact. One small study on the general population showed a reduction in pain sensitivity after a midday doze.
Just tell me how to nap already!
Here’s your new naptime mantra: “Keep it brief.” While everyone you know swears by a certain magic number (7 minutes! No, 17 minutes!), the National Sleep Foundation has this to say: “a short nap”—say, 20 minutes—“can help to improve mood, alertness and performance,” without side effects like grogginess.
When you lie down for those 20 minutes of shuteye, even if you’re really tired, it can be hard to actually fall asleep. To help, try to simulate nighttime conditions. Reduce light with a mask, blackout curtains, or—if for some strange reason your office actually invested in one—a workplace nap “pod.”
If you still can’t convince your body it’s time to zonk out, try listening to some music before you go to sleep. One study, published in a 2017 edition of the journal Sleep Medicine, showed that listening to music before napping helped patients sleep for more of the allotted napping time. They were also more alert than non-musical nappers when they woke up.
Feeling really experimental? Try napping after drinking coffee. Several studies have shown that if you caffeinate before as short nap of 15 to 20 minutes, you’ll wake feeling even perkier than usual, because caffeine takes about 20 minutes to kick in. As Vox put it, “coffee naps are better than coffee or naps.”
Whatever you do, don’t try to replace your evening z’s with napping. While it has plenty of benefits, 20 minutes of shuteye in the afternoon is nothing like a good night’s rest.
