is there actually a good translation of rumi. I tried the coleman barks once and besides having read the criticism of them I thought it was corny trite garbage. but in my heart I am aspirationally a kabirpanthi and so from reputation I know Rumi and Hafez must be for me but they get a lot of those corny translations (so did Kabir, back in the day…you should have seen what Pound did to him)

I feel obliged to mention that I have been known in my family to have *never* had any affection for Rama, even when I was a child. Not even for political reasons, I was a child—-I could understand why people loved Krishna’s tricksterisms, or even Vishnu’s serenity, but I could never grasp the sincere love for Rama that most Hindus have—-which is the closest thing to blasphemy I ever said when I was a child. (Coming from a liberal Hindu family, it was generally okay to say “Rama was a monster to Sita“ or ”not honorable, look at the Sugreeva and Vali episode”, as long as you were willing to sit thru the rationalizations afterwards—-the only thing I can think of that *didn’t*, in my family, have rationalizations was Surpanakha, which would generally just make everyone kind of quiet). But if I mentioned that Rama simply didn’t touch me remotey, it was like I was an alien (I used to get a lot of “you’re a Kabirpanthi, aren’t you? Kabir loved Ram”).

but then my family was liberal Hindu in the specifically Brahminical-Tamil mode. If I said “I detest Rama” alone it would get either an eyeroll or some disappointment, mostly silence, but if I said “I detest Rama—-Ravana is my guy” they’d generally just switch to telling stories about how great Ravana is (my family believes the etymology of his name as coming from classical Tamil for king, Iraivan, like dogma).

17 June #KabirJayanti Bhagat Kabir was a Devotee and Spiritual Poet lived in Uttar Pardesh, India. He was a strict monotheist and follower, probably founder, of Gurmat. In Guru Granth Sahib, There are 227 Padas in 17 ragas and 237 slokas of Sri Kabir JI. - Kabir was born in Muslim family. He is revered by Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. He played the role of a teacher and social reformer by the medium of his writings. Like other Devotees, Kabir did not believe in Ritualism, the worshiping of Dieties, Brahmanism, Caste System and illusioned concepts of Hindu and Muslim priests. The Kabirpanthi sect which follow the teachings of Kabir, referring to him as their guru. Principle Teachings:- - The whole universe is the creation of one God and it is in the image of the lord almighty. - Discrimination between high and low caste is a product of human prejudice which creates an unassailable gap between man and Almighty. - God is not a monopoly of one group of people or religion. Unity with Almighty can be achieved through naam simran and loving Him. - The person who achieves this unity becomes fearless of death. Such a mortal proclaims loudly:- ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਰਨੇ ਤੇ ਜਗੁ ਡਰੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥ कबीर जिसु मरने ते जगु डरै मेरे मनि आनंदु ॥ - ਕਬੀਰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਰਾਮੁ ॥ कबीर ता सिउ प्रीति करि जा को ठाकुरु रामु ॥ O Kabeer, be in love with only that one, whose Master is the Lord. - ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਬਾਰੈ ਬਾਰ ॥ कबीर मानस जनमु दुल्मभु है होइ न बारै बार ॥ O Kabeer, it is so difficult to obtain this human body; it does not just come over and over again. - ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋੁਈ ਮੁਖੁ ਧੰਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਰਾਮੁ ॥ कबीर सोई मुखु धंनि है जा मुखि कहीऐ रामु ॥ Kabeer, blessed is that mouth, which utters the Lord's Name. - ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ कबीर सुरग नरक ते मै रहिओ सतिगुर के परसादि ॥ Kabeer, I have been spared from heaven and hell, by the Grace of the True Guru. - ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਲਿ ਕਰੰਤਾ ਅਬਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਅਬ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਇ ਤਾਲ ॥ कबीर कालि करंता अबहि करु अब करता सुइ ताल ॥ Kabeer, that which you have to do tomorrow - do it today instead; and that which you have to do now - do it immediately! - ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ कबीर मेरा मुझ महि किछु नही जो किछु https://www.instagram.com/p/ByzgJN-lHR3/?igshid=1b7khpuu5kcw1
