in honour of canada’s first national day for truth and reconciliation i wanted to share a link that provides a bit more information and what non-indigenous people can do to support
and i also wanted to share a beautiful totem pole that was carved in honour of the holiday and commissioned by the mayor

But how could anybody assume that history is over when so many things are still going on and when the past is still there? Effecting so many Families, communities and Generationes. I think we all agree with that. But I also think that the First Nations won't rest until things are different and they have the feeling to be heared. Of course there are many things that need be changed. And of course that everywhere are many things that need be changed and when responibles never been charged for what they've done than something is going terribly whong.

Where the Spirit Lives is a movie about residential schools in Canada.
Warning: This can be very triggering. Watch at your own discretion.

Generation Guilty
Until what time are we responsible?
Tumblr media
When we talk about guilt, we talk about something that happed yesterday. We talk about something we've done a few minutes ago ... But what if it's something we've never done? Do we have the obligation to feel guilty? It is a very personal desicion and it is up to you to desides if you are responible for what happened or not. Of course we need to keep theese mories alive. Of course we need to talk about that, but are we doing this because we are feel "guilty"? Or are we doing this because we feel "responsible" for what happened? We are responible, but I woudn't say that we're, or I, am guilty, but like I said, It's a desicion that is up to you to deside.
People always say "It is a long time ago", but the last residential schools in Canada closed in 1996/1997 and I think we have to take a responsibility for certain things Today the Indigenous First Nations are sstruggeling with alcoholism and drug abuse. 42% of the Indigenous People are dealing with an addiction problem. The risk for Indigenous Woman to be raped or murdered is way much higher than for a non-Indigenous Woman and the solutionrate is incredible low. Yes, there is a lot we have to talk about and there is a lot we have to do to solve these problems and in my opinion we all have something you perhaps call "guilt". I heaven't thought about those things but that is a topic that have a philosophical aspect. Can a Gereration be guilty for something it never did? And until what time can you be responible? Well, I think there will never be an explenation for that kinds of questions. I think the "Generation Guilty" is in the eye of the beholder.
