Thinking about a project idea on creating memorials. Especially for #IndigenousCanada #VeteransDay2023 and Secondary 3/4 history sections on 1812, WW1, etc ... Today is Orange Shirt Day, and marks the first time for the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation for Canada. The last few months have been eye opening, heart wrenching and also the most informative of my indigenous background, I have learned so much in the last few months, than I have learned in the previous 46 years of life. I come from the Kitaumkalum band, which is part of the Ts'msyen Nation, and I am part of the Gisbutwada (Killerwhale) clan. My indigenous family, comes from Prince Rupert or in Lax Kw'laams. My father Cecil, was taken and sent to the Port Alberni residential school, as were my uncle's and cousins; my grandparents went elsewhere. Over these last few months, I have had a lot of conflicting emotions, for reasons only known to the ancestors, I have been feeling an immense guilt that I never went to residential school, that because I was raised by my non-indigenous mother and my grandparents from her side, I was spared from being taken. But at the same time, I feel guilt that I do not know much of my own heritage and culture, because the residential schools were so freaking effective. I do not know how else to quantify my emotions, I know there has never been a time in my life, where I have cried so much, and I have never been one shy to shed a tear; so that is saying something. I want everyone to take a moment today, learn, listen, respect, and if you can, please wear orange. Gitsmgeelm de wil 'wit waattgm! Take it or leave it

Leave. Forget. Forgive. This are heavy words, espacelly when you think about the huge Impact that history have on Communities. I've been reading a lot of postings and I am still reading a lot of them and I belive that history is something you can't kill. It is something you can't mute and it never will be something you can forget about. But it is something you can teach, it should be something you need to teach!
I am talkinga lot to an activist because I wanna learn about how people feel about it and how they think about surtain things and I came to the conclusion that there is still too much anger to listen. Too may thinks still where left unsaid and these feelings block the thought of coming together and find solution.
Tumblr media
But how could anybody assume that history is over when so many things are still going on and when the past is still there? Effecting so many Families, communities and Generationes. I think we all agree with that. But I also think that the First Nations won't rest until things are different and they have the feeling of being heared. Of course there are many thinks that need be changed. And of course that everywhere are many things that need be changed and when responibles never been charged for what they've done than something is going terribly whong.
People have to understand that there is a need in bringing attention to the public
The riots show that, but riots are causing troubles. It split the relation to those who should listen. It poisend the Society and does the opposite. And yet many people think that there is no other way.
Tumblr media
Everywhere aroud the Coutry people are calling to action. It is not only because of the dead children. It's also because of what is callsed "Child and family service", a measure around putting Indigenous children into the care of a foster family.
Tumblr media
I can't say if some of the statments I've read on Messanger are overreactions but I do know that something is going wrong and people are protesting. Canada should be on a crossroad, and people need to reflect their achtions.
It is hard to tell what's wong from right when you are facing such a big thing. It's not that easy to keep calm and doing the right thing but now it is important to think.
The RCMP published in 2021 a Statement, that caused a lot of outrage in the First Nation communities. It is always difficult to talk about guilt and responbility. Can you be responibility for something you never have done? Or do you have nothing to do with that because you done nothing? I guess the trueth is somwhere in between and it is irresponsible to say neither the one nor the other.

Today is the national day for truth and reconciliation in Canada and we are hounoring the residential school survivors. I thought I would show you two books that I’ve read recently and have opened my eyes to the truth about indigenous communities in this country. I would love it if you could put in the comments any useful books or resources that you might have stumbled upon so we could all educate ourselves! May we all heal! . . . . . #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #indigenouscanada #darkacademiaaesthetic #lightacademia #messydesk #darkacademia #studyblr #studysession #studyathome #studentsofinstagram #workspaceinspo #studycommunity #paperless #studynotes #studyspace #studygramcommunity #deskgoals #studyspiration #booktography #bookaesthetic #booknookstagram #cornersofmyworld https://www.instagram.com/p/CUcv6bkLvqs/?utm_medium=tumblr

Posted @withregram • @ohkairyn Native women face murder rates more than 10x times the national average. Read that again, then ask yourself “why?” They’re not “more vulnerable” they are targeted, and there’s a difference. Today I am wearing red and bringing awareness to this epidemic that is devastating our communities, and to honor the families of those MMIWG2S – Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit. 🌹❤️ Ask yourself, “what can I do?” You can do the obvious things, like educate yourself about the racist systemic issues and settler colonialism facing our communities. However, as allies, I would say take it a step further and do the things that require a bit more than simply reading about our tragedies. When you see an indigenous womxn or femme traveling alone home, offer to walk with them or watch out for them. If you see something that seems suspicious on a night out - intervene somehow, call for help, get security involved, get them an Uber or taxi home. Take what you know now about MMIW2G and take small, important and life-saving steps to make a difference in your everyday life - it could very well save a life. ❤️ Ishniish 🌿 Donate/Support: @nwac_ca @mmiwhoismissing @niwrc #mmiwg2s #twospirit #mmiw #reddress #canada #indigenouscanada #nativeamerican https://www.instagram.com/p/CfifNeCj3YAO0uTnNuwUFTUKbEPJh06MzSXmS40/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this Canada day let's take time to reflect and stand in solidarity with the indigenous community. This is a difficult time and anything we could do is to stand United. Let's support and vouch to protect our indigenous people. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #canada #toronto #canadaday #canadaday2021 #indegenous #indian #indigenouscommunity #indigenouschildren #indigenouslivesmatter #indigenouscanada #britishcolumbia #yukon #alberta #saskatchewan #manitoba #ontario #quebec #novascotia #newbrunswick #newfoundland #northwesternterritories #nunavut (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQyq_SxLGfs/?utm_medium=tumblr

Posted @withregram • @ohkairyn Anyone else find it weird when non-indigenous organizations ask indigenous folk to come in and deliver these land acknowledgments on their behalf? Yet there’s little to no indigenous leadership in that organization. And they’re not doing anything to support the #landback movement. #landacknowledgement #aunty #canada #nativecanada #twospirit #nativepride #traditionallands #indigenouscanada https://www.instagram.com/p/Cfiefu6Dg4iA6T6GnouYp2CFCOFsdUTFsKBQj40/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
