Note
hiiii i recently watched kanthony (the so called bridgerton show or whatever) and was wondering if u have any fic recs... 👉👈🤭
okay i litchrally have never compiled a list even tho ive been asked before bc i have read too many to keep them organized. but ill do it. Finally. for YOU.
first. my fav period setting fics <33:
tete a tete by caciopepebowl (14k~) this is REQUIRED reading to ME. its a quick read that explores kate and anthonys roles in their family. with an emphasis on KATE specifically bc of the additional hurdles of being a woman with limited funds. and anthony losing his mind on her behalf while shes breaking his heart by being like "the way i was treated was normal?? you dont know anything" and hes like "what? kate you deserved everything. you deserve ALL the love in the world!!" and shes all ">:( well if i do. you do too." . and hes like "oh. well...no. you see.. bc i suck" and shes like -_-. its really sweeeeeet and lovely <3) and really finally gave me the exploring of kates family issues that THE SHOW DID NOT!!!
the longest betrothal by caciopepebowl. (90k~) my FAVVVVV regency setting fic. its sooo good. its basically a continuation that fills in the gap AFTER they get engaged but BEFORE theyre married. and them trying SO hard to be normal about how in love they are lol. SO funny and sweet. and with IMMACULATE characterization
in vino veritas by wagamiller. (~10k) a one shot about kate going to a ladies society event and coming home drunk to anthony and him being soooo smitten with her. sauuuur cute. ive read this like 4 times <3
for reasons wretched and divine by penny_loaf. (~18k. locked fic. need an account.) basically kate and anthony get stuck in a time loop on that first day edwina is receiving suiters. they both think theyre alone in the loop and its depressing until they realize the other is stuck with them too. they try to break the loop and fail repeatedly. after a while they just give up and start fucking bc theres no consequences so who cares LOL. surprisingly tender and sweet
the harsh light of day by burnerraccount. (~22k. locked) explicit one shot. kate has the idea that they should fuck before they get married so theres less pressure on the wedding night. she decides all this without mentioning it to anthony (LOL). so she shows up at his house the night before their wedding. and his footman is like "theres a woman outside to see you" and he in all his goofy almost-married bliss is like "i dont want to see Any woman but my gorgeous, beautiful, amazing WIFE" and his footman is like "well. you see.. it is your wife. uh fiance" and anthonys like "[voice crack] huh ?". very FUNNY
green in its many hues by burnerraccount. kate and anthony decide they are going to be chaste and proper leading up to their wedding. they suck at it SO bad lol
next. modern AUS my best friends <33:
la semi dolce vita by caciopepebowl (~170k) my FAVVVV modern au of ALL time. kate is a private chef. anthonys family hires her when they go on vacation. hes being so normal about it. i promise. this is one of the best characterizations of kate AND anthony in a modern setting. with an extra emphasis on focusing on kate issues. and not JUST anthonys. which is what makes the dynamic sooo good. 10/10. hot. and i love LOVE <3
close encounters of the acutest kind by caciopepebowl (WIP ~74k. only incomplete fic ill put on this list i PROMMY. bc its by the prev author. and i Looove their writing and its sooo good so far <3) kate and anthony meet for the first time the DAY her dad died which is also the SAME DAY hyacinth is born. theyre both having a panic attack and end up running into the same empty hospital room to have it. are then intrinsically linked forever. as one is. run into each other multiple times over the years. with different feelings each time. and they are so normal (lying) <3. i love them
chosen & cherished by trash4ficsaboutlurv. (~42k) this is so underrated. kate runs a charity organization. anthony is CEO of whatever the fuck. she goes to his company when theyre holding some audition for what charity theyre going to invest in and kate is the last speaker and when its finally her turn he doesnt even pay attention. and shes exhausted and overworked and just oveeeer it All. so she just ends the meeting and tells him to go fuck himself. LOL. genuinely really good. and hot <3
sidelines by ramarro. (~60k) this was THE quintessential kanthony modern AU in 2022. took a far fetched premise and somehow made it soooo good. and hot. and cute. kates an artist who sees a picture of anthony on tinder and thinks he looks obnoxious (lol) but screenshots the photo so she can use it for sketching practice. and then she see him and his grown ass on a date with her BABY sister. and shes like well i was right about him. and lets him know to his face how she feels (LOL). its wild. it slays. read it. theres an explicit follow up to it which also slays
three cities and we never lived here by ramarro. (~25k, ~40k) very different modern au where kate and anthony meet on vacation and are very casual with them both not looking for anything (genuinely for once lol) and then seeing each other multiple times over 2-3 years in different cities and still keeping it casual. but slowly slowly slowlyyyy it doesnt feel as casual as it used to. theres 2 fics in this. the first is kates pov. the second is anthony. both very good.
just go with it by suitsusboth. (~18k) kate when booking a flight sees the potential titles like ms, mrs, dr, and "viscountess" listed as a legit option and has a laugh like whos picking this goofy shit and accidentally clicks it. and then on her flight gets upgraded to first class next to anthony bc they assumed she was his wife. and he tries to be mad about it. but well. hes stupid for her in every universe so lol. funny and sweet
the air i breathe and the bane of my existance by the_loosest_moose. (image fic) these are textfics told through instagram, twitter, article and text message screenshots. with some regular text. would just check them out to gauge how you feel about the storytelling method. very fun reads once you get the hang of it
heirlooms by waterlilyrose. (~12k) modern au where kate gets anthonys ring stuck on her finger for days and has to wait to get it off. he is of course very normal about it
a devils love by irony_rocks. (~57k) this may not be for everyone but kanthony season came out around the same time as the batman (2022) and as someone who was crazy insane about both. this was the MOMENT for me in spring 2022. its a crime mafia type au where kates character is inspired by selina kyle and the pebble lounge where she worked in the batman movie. and well. if youre about that specific combo check it out. if you arent i wouldnt recommend this lmao. its not a batman au
break point (series) by penny_loaf. (multiple. ~25k) like prev this entire series gets kind of dark bc it really delves into the pressure of the world its set in. on TOP of the issues kate and anthony already have. i LOVED it. BUT also i am an ANGST and crazy, complicated characters STAN. which may not be the case for everyone.. but again very GORGEOUS to ME <3 and hot. LOL
take me home by kendal_lynne. (~12k) romcom type explicit one shot where kate makes the mistake of telling anthony her ex couldnt make her come. and hes all like i volunteer as tribute PLEASE PKLEASE PLEASE PICK ME CHOOSE ME PLWASEE etc
we never made a sound by writergirl8. (~4k) spy au that was soooooo good and sexy. i wish it was longer
with elaichi by serendipityinwords (~6k) the two biggest bitches at a dinner party find out they're soulmates. LOL. hilarious dialogue
theres probably more i loved that im not remembering rn and maybe ill update this but for now have fun! yippee <3

Kanthony Fic: A Weekend in The Country
Summary: Each summer, the Sharma family joins the Bridgertons for their annual Flowers and Hearts Ball, and Kate and Anthony invariably butt heads. This year, when Kate returns with news of an engagement, a different sort of sparks fly.
Tumblr media
Each year, there was no event as anticipated as Violet Bridgerton’s Hearts and Flowers Ball.  The crème de la crème of the ton took their most ornate carriages out to the country to spend the weekend at the Bridgerton’s ancestral home, Aubrey Hall.  It was a place to be seen and no expense was spared, by either Violet Bridgerton or her guests.
Kate Sharma stepped out of her carriage, the plain stylings in contrast to the gilded cages that would line the driveway later that evening.  The Sharma family had never had the funds to throw money at appearances.  Besides, the Bridgertons were not a family they needed to impress.  Violet was a childhood friend of Mary Sharma, back when Violet was a Ledger and Mary was a Sheffield.  Kate had been coming to Aubrey Hall since she was a child.
            “Kate!”
The eldest Sharma daughter looked up just quickly enough to see a mass of chestnut hair throw themselves at her.  She laughed, stumbling back at the sheer force of the other woman.  While she hadn’t fully seen who was hugging her, she recognized the tight grip.
“Eloise, it is so good to see you.”
            “You are late.”
Kate grinned indulgently and said, “I am afraid the Atlantic Ocean is to blame.”
Kate and her family had planned to arrive earlier in the week, but inclement weather during the sea portion of their journey had waylaid them.  Eloise tugged her toward the house.
“Since you weren’t here, Colin won pall mall.  He’s been gloating ever since.”
“It’s been – what – six years since he’s won?”
“Seven,” Eloise corrected.  “I was a close second.  Naturally.”
Kate smirked.  “Of course.  Who got last place?”
Eloise grinned wide.  “Anthony.  Please bring it up when you see him.”
“Oh, I most certainly will,” Kate said with delight.  “I’m guessing he didn’t get the mallet of death this year?”
            “No, he did.”
“He got last place with the mallet of death?”
“It was an exceedingly bad game for him.”
Kate spotted Anthony and said, “Excuse me, Eloise.”
Spotting her brother, Eloise said, “Give him a little bit of a hard time, will you?”
Kate smirked.  “I’ll do my best.”
She walked toward Anthony, who had appreciated her approach and halted his move toward the front door of the house, and she said, “My condolences, my Lord.”
He looked at her with confusion.  “For what?”
            “Your pall mall game.”
Anthony’s jaw ticked.  “It had rained the day before.  The entire lawn was a mess.”
“I would not have taken you for one making excuses for a fair loss.”
“Did you approach just to irritate me?”
“Of course not, my Lord.  Just a convenient byproduct.”
Kate delighted too much in his irritation, but it had always been this way.  Ever since they were children, both had taken enjoyment out of needling the other.
“Of course,” he parroted back, shaking his head.  “And stop calling me that.”
“Calling you what?” She returned, knowing very well what he was talking about.  Having known each other since children, he never required her to use his title.  She only did it to annoy him.
He narrowed his eyes.  “See, when others use my title, it is as a sign of respect.  When you say it…”
She grinned wide.  “I assure you, I mean nothing but respect, my Lord.”
Anthony held her gaze for one heated moment, his gaze shifting from frustration to something more calculating, and then he said, “I see it is just yourself, Ms. Edwina and Mrs. Sharma.  Still without a husband, I see?  You are now, what, eight and twenty?”
            “I don’t see a Lady Bridgerton, either.”
“I can choose a wife whenever I wish.”
“Oh yes, of course, because you are a man.  How could I have forgotten?”  Kate held her chin high.  “If you must know, though, I am engaged to be married.”
Anthony blinked with surprise.  He hadn’t expected that.  “Are you?  Where is he then?”
            “He had business.”
“Business,” Anthony repeated.  “And what business is that?”
“He is a solicitor.  His livelihood does not afford him the luxury of taking an extended holiday.  He must work.”
The insinuation was clear that Anthony’s given title did not require him to work, a misapprehension as being the Viscount kept Anthony exceedingly busy, but he didn’t take the bait.  It would be too easy.
Instead, he said, “Tell me about your solicitor.  Who is it that captured the discerning eye of Ms. Kate Sharma?”
Kate didn’t like him asking questions.  Not that she hadn’t brought it on herself, which she did.  She shouldn’t have mentioned James.
“He is kind and fair,” she said carefully, setting him with a level look.
“Kind and fair,” Anthony repeated slowly.
Feeling a criticism on the horizon, Kate said, “And industrious.”
            “And industrious?”
“Yes,” Kate said irritably.  “Why are you repeating everything I say?”
“He sounds like quite the gentleman.  A shame he couldn’t join you here.  I would have loved to have made his acquaintance.”
“And what of you?  Has the time come for there to be a Lady Bridgerton?  Or will you waste yet another year away with opera singers and actresses?
“You say waste.  I say I have received …” he stepped closer, lowering his voice, “and given immense pleasure.  That hardly sounds like a waste to me.”
Despite herself, Kate felt her breath catch and she knew he had won.  Damn it.
“I believe I have other guests to attend to,” Anthony said, stepping around her.  As he passed, his sleeve brushed her bare arm.  “Good day, Ms. Sharma.”
Kate settled into her room, enjoying the moment of quiet before the preparations for the ball that evening would begin.  Her thoughts drifted back to her conversation with Anthony.  She held her left hand in front of her, examining her engagement ring.  It was an intricate design, a pattern of small diamonds and pearls swirling above a yellow gold setting.  Not at all the ring she would choose.  But then again, James wasn’t exactly the husband she would have chosen, either.
She hadn’t lied before to Anthony.  James was kind, fair and industrious.  He was a steady and strong match.  Which was exactly what their family needed.  Edwina had gone and married a penniless writer for love.  Kate never begrudged her sister for that, but it did leave her with the responsibility of securing their mother’s future.  Their father had not been a wealthy man and each year, the funds on which Mary lived dwindled.  She did not love James, but he made a good living and, having always been practical to a fault, that was enough.  When he asked her to marry him, the only logical answer was yes.
The respite was too short before there was a knock on her door.  A moment later, her sister’s voice sounded on the other side of the door.
            “Kate?”
Reluctantly, Kate sat up on her bed and said, “Come in, Edwina.”
The door opened and Edwina came in, climbing onto the bed beside her sister.
“Why are you hiding in here?”
            “I am not hiding.”
“I saw you and Anthony talking.  You two aren’t at odds again, are you?”
Kate laughed.  “We haven’t even been here a day, Edwina.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time you two have started warring early.”
“We are not at odds,” Kate assured her.  “I actually told him of my engagement.”
“You did?  Well, I am sure that he was immensely happy for you.”
Kate thought of his reaction, but kept it to herself.  Instead, she said, “He was most congratulatory.”
“That is wonderful to hear.”  Edwina grasped Kate’s hand.  “Did you ever think this day would come?  Both of us happily married?”
Kate kept the truth of her engagement from Edwina, not wanting her to know the position that her marriage had put them in.  The guilt would consume her sister.
“It is a miracle, indeed,” Kate said, squeezing Edwina’s hand.
That evening, the who’s who of London made their appearance at Aubrey Hall.  The usual names were there, and some unusual ones, as well.  Kate kept to the side of the dance floor, watching the others dance.  While she always enjoyed coming out to the country during the summer, she never quite enjoyed the ball.  It was a beautiful affair, of course.  Violet would never allow anything short of perfection.  But when she was younger, the conversation had always been about who she would marry.  When she proved herself a likely spinster, the conversation was then about who Edwina would marry.  Then, when they had exhausted that topic, it was comments on the flowers and how the roses or lilacs or whatever other flower was center this year was an inspiring choice.  Even at a young age, it bothered Kate that in a room filled with intelligent women, all they could seem to talk about was marriage and flowers.
Kate went out onto the balcony, needing a bit of fresh air.  A moment later, the door opened and Anthony stepped out onto the balcony.  She looked back, catching his gaze and for a moment, he seemed to reconsider making the rest of the way over to her.  She watched the hesitation pass on his face before he closed the door behind him, decision made, and joined her at the railing.
“Seems you had the same idea as me,” he said.
“Did you also need to escape endless questioning about your thoughts on the flower arrangements?”
“No, I am escaping Cressida Cowper.”
            Kate winced.
“It seems my mother told a few of the marriage mart here that I am looking for a wife.  They all are setting their daughters on me.  Cressida is the most forward of the bunch.”
Kate snorted, drawing an amused look from Anthony.  “Your mother is an enterprising woman.”
“I will be sure to tell her that.”
“Why don’t you want to marry Cressida?  She’s pretty.  Smart, too.”
“I do not like to speak ill of women, but she is awful.  Absolutely awful.  I swear, I don’t think I have ever met a woman as awful as Cressida Cowper.”
“Come now, she’s not that bad.”
“You only see her one month a year.  I have to spend the other eleven months with her.  Just trust me on this.”
“Okay,” Kate said with a shrug.  “She is awful then.”
Anthony glanced over his shoulder, and then suddenly pulled Kate over to a dark side of the balcony.  She yelped, only to have Anthony put his hand over her mouth and whisper, “Be quiet!”
She bit his hand and he swore, pulling it away.
            “What the-“
“Cressida just came out here,” he hissed.  “So please, shut up.”
Kate’s eyes narrowed.  “Don’t tell me to-“
He covered her mouth again with his hand, quickly glancing over his shoulder again.  To his relief, Cressida seemed to have a change of heart about being outside, and she turned on her heel and went back into the ball.  He removed his hand from Kate’s mouth just as she drove her heel down into his foot.
“What the hell!” He railed, stumbling away from her.
“I could say the same thing!” She hissed back.  “You couldn’t just talk to her like a normal person?”
“Not out here!  Knowing you, you would have left us outside here and Cressida would have maneuvered us into some compromising position and I’d end the night an engaged man!”
“That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.  Not all women go around scheming to trap a man into marriage.”
            “Maybe not you, but –“
“Do you have that low an opinion of women?”
Anthony clenched his jaw.  “No!  I am merely saying – “
“Or that high of an opinion of yourself?”
            “Well, I mean, I am a Viscount.”
Kate’s eyes widened.  “You cannot be serious.”
“While you may not want to marry me, believe it or not, many other women are not so inclined.”
Kate wanted to refute him.  It went against her very nature to agree with him, but she knew he was right.  His position did make him a catch for just about any woman in London.  The doors opened again, and almost by instinct, Anthony stepped forward and pushed her into the dark corner again.  He was pressed close, his hands against the building on either side of her waist, his mouth a breath from hers.  If either moved a fraction of an inch, they would be well past the point of decency.  Of course, neither could move.  Coming out of a dark corner in company was just about as bad as being found there.
His eyes met hers and she nodded almost imperceptibly, agreeing that they had no recourse but to stay how they were.  Kate closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she found him looking at her mouth.  She licked her lips nervously, and felt him track the movement of her tongue.  His hands flexed beside her waist, like it took effort for him to keep them there.  His eyes met hers again and it felt as if all the air was sucked from her lungs.
Behind them, Kate heard the couple outside go back into the ball.  The coast was clear, but neither of them made a move.  It was as if they were frozen in the moment.  Kate heard the opening chords of a Mozart concerto begin, and it jogged her out of her momentary insanity.
            “Anthony?”             “Yes?”
“Since I have no intention of trapping you into an engagement, we probably should move.”
That pulled him out of his reverie, and he sprang away from her, looking about as shaken as she felt.  He ran his hand through his hair, straightening as he regained his composure.  With a slight inclination of his head, he said, “Good night, Ms. Sharma.”
As he departed, she said, “Good night, Lord Bridgerton.”

You Know They're Engaged, Right? - Chapter One
Tumblr media
A/N - Hey guys, this is an updated version of Chapter One as I had to make some edits to the plot. Hope you guys enjoy! Comment a 🌻to be added to the tag list.
Masterlist
Kate Sharma’s classroom was a mess.
She had planned a makeshift art session for her Year 9 students to help them become motivated to learn about The Great Gatsby but it had gotten increasingly out of hand. First, one of her students had squeezed a paint bottle too hard, meaning blue paint had splattered all over the table and onto her carpet. Then, she’d made the mistake of having glitter as an option, resulting in the floor being covered.
She groaned at the sight and started loading art supplies onto the trolley she had borrowed, deciding she couldn’t leave the mess for the cleaners to sort out. A knock sounded on her door as she grabbed the last paint bottle, turning to see the Head of Art glaring at her.
“What are you doing here so late, Miss Sharma?” He questioned, leaning against the door frame. She scowled and checked the clock, noting that it had only been 15 minutes since school had ended.
“If this is your definition of late, Ben, you have some serious explaining to do. And aren’t you meant to be on bus duty anyway?” She quipped, returning the paint bottles to the tray.
“Not today, I got Dorset to take over as I took his shift on Wednesday. And I’ll have you know that I am very good at being on time.”
“Uh-huh. Then who was in my house this morning looking for his ‘lucky pencil’ until quarter-past eight?”
“First of all, it’s our house according to the rent I pay every month, and second of all, it isn’t my lucky pencil…it’s just the best one for me to use. And we were on time, so technically this morning doesn’t count.”
“Ben, I’ve had to wake you up every morning this week…and I’m running out of things to throw at you.”
“In my defence, alarms are way too quiet.” Benedict chuckled, raising his hands in surrender as a polishing cloth flew his way. “And you throwing pillows at me is guaranteed to wake me up.” Grabbing the polishing cloth, he started cleaning the table near him. “You do know that the school hires people to clean the classrooms, right?”
“Yes I know. I just feel really guilty leaving a mess. It’s not their fault my Year Nines got overzealous with the glitter.” Kate grimaced, peering around at the classroom.
“On any other day, I would stay behind and clean with you, but-” Benedict started, eying the clock anxiously.
“Why are you so anxious to leave all of a sudden? It’s not like we have plans.” Benedict’s fidgeting paused at this, a guilty look crossing his face.
“Benedict Bridgerton, what are you hiding from me?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all.” Kate raised an eyebrow in response and turned to face him, crossing her arms in the process.
“Fine. You know how you said you didn’t want to celebrate your birthday this year?”
“Oh no, Ben. What did you do?” Kate groaned.
“I didn’t do anything. I told my mum that you weren’t planning on celebrating and that me, you and Sophie were just going to have a quiet meal in.”
“…And?”
“And…the party’s at 5,” Benedict admitted in defeat, staring at Kate warily. She looked at him for a moment and sighed, dropping the polishing cloth back on to her desk. “Look, I promise I will make it up to you,” he pleaded with her.
“You better.”
Kate Sharma (4.24 pm) - Please tell me you are attending this thing tonight?
Simon Bassett (4.30 pm) - What thing?
Kate Sharma (4.31 pm) - The thing at Violet’s
Kate Sharma (4.31 pm) - For my birthday???
Simon Bassett (4.32 pm) - …How do you know about that??
Kate Sharma (4.32 pm)- I live with Benedict
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - Fair enough.
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - And yes, I will be attending.
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - Won’t you be with Ben anyway?
Kate Sharma (4.34 pm) - Yeah, but he’ll be with Sophie.
Kate Sharma - (4.34 pm) And I’ll be alone.
Kate Sharma (4.34 pm)- At Bridgerton House.
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm)- …
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm) -  I thought you liked Bridgerton House?
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm) -  I do, but this birthday is just a reminder to my mother that I'm still single.
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm) - Which will lead to a blind date with one of her friends' sons
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm)  - And you know how well that went last time
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm)- He wasn't the worst date you've been set up on
Simon Bassett (4.35 pm) - Remember Berbrooke
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - Unfortunately
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - I've got to go. Sophie's just arrived and I need to steal her away before Ben gets to her.
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - See you tonight.
Simon Bassett (4.37 pm) -  See you tonight.
Bridgerton House was familiar to Kate, she had spent most of her summers away from University looking after the younger Bridgertons whilst her mother and Mrs Bridgerton mourned their respective husbands. But standing in front of it on her 29th birthday, it loomed over her - its presence bringing back forgotten memories.
Benedict and Sophie entered first, allowing Kate to take a moment before she joined them in the hallway. She let out a breath as she entered, observing that the ‘party’ Violet had thrown for her consisted of her mother and sister, nearly all of the Bridgertons, Penelope Featherington and Simon Bassett.
“Happy Birthday!” They called out, causing Kate to chuckle softly. Mary and Edwina were first to hug Kate with Simon following behind them. He offered her his arm, leading her into the living room.
“Happy birthday,” he whispered as they passed the Bridgerton family. “You look very nice tonight.”
“Why thank you,” she blushed, “I’m glad you made it. I need at least one sane person with me tonight.”
“I couldn’t miss one of my oldest friend’s birthdays, could I? Especially not one as special as this.” He commented slyly, raising his eyebrows at her.
“Simon, I’m turning 29…I’m not sure it’s that special.”
“We shall see,” Her friend smirked, quirking an eyebrow, “speaking of oldest friends, a certain Bridgerton wanted me to pass on his apologies that he couldn’t make it. He did promise that he’d try and pop in if he could. Why he couldn’t tell you this over text alludes me.”
“You know how Anthony is with technology. I just managed to persuade him to download WhatsApp for a group chat. Initiating texts is a long way off.” Kate laughed, taking the seat Simon guided her to, observing the room around her. The furniture in the living room had been pushed into the middle to make a small circle around the coffee table, presents stacked precariously around it. As everyone filtered into the room taking their seats, Kate smiled softly. Whilst she didn’t normally like to celebrate her birthday, she appreciated the thought that went into the celebration, knowing that her friends would have needed to stop Violet from throwing another birthday ball.
Kate got through her presents quickly, her friends and family eager to see her reaction. She received a perfume and recipe book from Mary, jewellery from Edwina, paints from Sophie, books from Eloise, bourbon from Simon and a homemade card and cake from Hyacinth and Gregory. Thanking all of her friends, she placed her presents in a neat pile next to her before hearing a small shuffle from the other room. Benedict entered a few moments later, having disappeared at some point, with a medium cardboard box in his arms.
“Kate,” he began, “this gift is from all of us. We know that it’s something you’ve wanted for a while now and we hope you like it.”
She looked at him confused as he settled the box down in front of her, opening the lid.
Kate was in love.
In front of her was a corgi puppy, a purple collar around its neck.
“Ben, you didn’t.” She breathed, holding out a tentative hand to the small dog.
“His name is Newton- but you can change it- and he’s yours.”
“Ben!” She squealed, carefully picking up the puppy. “This is the best gift ever.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” A voice sounded from across the room. Everyone turned to see Anthony leaning against the door frame, a small piece of paper in his hand. “Happy Birthday, Kate.”
“Thank you. I thought you couldn’t make it,” Kate queried, standing to greet Anthony with a small hug, Newton still in her arms.
“I managed to get someone to cover for me. Something important came up,” Anthony answered, returning the hug stiffly before taking a small step away. “Speaking of, can I speak to you? In the kitchen?” He asked quietly, aware of his families’ eyes on him. Kate nodded and passed the corgi to Benedict, excusing herself from the living room. Anthony then turned to Simon and jerked his head towards the kitchen, motioning for the other man to follow him.
When the trio were alone in the kitchen, Anthony placed a napkin on the counter in front of him.
“Would someone explain why I found this on my desk this afternoon?” He asked calmly, pushing the napkin across to Kate and Simon. The duo exchanged a confused look before peering at the napkin.
“‘This contract states that…’” Kate trailed off in horror, glancing up at Anthony, “this is a joke, right?” At Anthony’s silence, she turned to face Simon, paling at the grimace on his face. “Simon?!”
“It’s not a joke, Kate,” Simon answered quietly, pulling the napkin closer to him, “I wish it was but I remember this contract. If neither of you get married by Kate’s next birthday, you’ll marry each other. Basically…you and Anthony are engaged.”

bridgerton (tv) | anthony/kate explicit, 10.5k In preparation for their wedding, a nervous Anthony asks Kate to show him how the Haldi ceremony is performed so he can practice. Naturally, things escalate.
He smiles and shakes his head, consequently smearing more on his top lip and the tip of his nose. He speaks against the pad of her finger, "You are incorrigible."
"And so are you."
"Stubborn."
"And you."
He clears his throat gently and doesn’t move his face away from her hand. "Beautiful."
She smiles. "And you."
He laughs and pulls away from her hand, wrapping his fingers gently around her wrist. "Why must you be so you?"
She smiles and wiggles her fingers in an attempt to try and smear his chin. "Who else would I be? Kathani Bridgerton is as much a menace as Kathani Sharma."
He smiles widely and stares at her.
"What?" she asks, feeling self-conscious.
"Say it again."

Title: Kate Sharma and the Vexing Ordeal of Being Betrothed
Rating: M
Tags: Betrothal era, fluff, idiots in love, UST
Summary:
Kate and Anthony navigate the world's longest betrothal with their usual unhingedness. --- Anthony sighs. "They are not entirely misguided. I have behaved inappropriately with you, and you deserve a proper courtship. I do not wish our marriage to be the subject of rumor any more than it already will be."
Kate nods. "We shall have to be discreet then."
Anthony looks at her, aghast. "We shall have to be chaste!"
Kate laughs disbelievingly. "You do not mean that."

Coming soon: A Weary Memory prequel

“I'm Anthony.”
“Anthony?” she asked, with a hard “th.”
He shook his head.
“Anthony,” he enunciated. “With a ‘ta.’“
The way Anthony exaggerated the consonant sound drew Kate's attention to his mouth and the way his tongue peeked out just a little from between his teeth. I wonder if that's a move. He has lines, so surely he also has moves. I bet that “with a ‘ta'” nonsense is the only reason he pronounces it that way.
Kate realised too late her gaze was lingering on his mouth, looking up only once Anthony started smirking. And I totally fell for it, damn him.
Anthony with a “ta” put a hand on the wall behind Kate, and his forearm brushed against her shoulder as he leaned forward. “Would you like me to demonstrate again? Up close this time?”
Kate rolled her eyes. Definitely a move. “No, thanks. I'm a quick study, Anthony.” She noted it must work both ways, judging by how Anthony's eyes darted down to her lips. “Sounds quite posh, pronounced the proper way. Suits you.”
“Why doesn't that sound like a compliment?”
Kate tilted her head to one side, and Anthony seemed to reflexively tilt his head the same way as his eyes stayed trained on hers. “Perhaps because it isn't.”

Knowing Me, Knowing You
Chapter 11 & Chapter 12 on AO3
The group of twenty first years arrived with Brimsley and Portia in tow. Kate and Anthony had greeted them in the lobby, standing a respectable distance from one another, to give out room assignments to the students while the other staff checked themselves in. Portia had looked Anthony over carefully in a rather contemptuous manner, but hadn’t given much attention to Kate, who was glad she did not have to share a room with the other woman who seemed rather put out to be there.
“What did you do to her?” Kate murmured as the students dispersed to find their rooms, laughing loudly.
“She’s never liked me,” Anthony said. “Perhaps because I’m the world’s biggest rake.”
“Don’t I know it,” Kate replied and Anthony had lifted his eyebrows suggestively before stepping away again.
