Last month, I attended my first J-rock concert, and, not to mention, it was my first time going to a concert alone. Initially, my partner and I were supposed to attend their "Eye of the Storm" concert in 2021, but the pandemic happened, and I had to refund the concert tickets because no one knew what would happen at that time. Everything was completely uncertain back then.

Fast forward to today, Pulp announced that they were bringing the "Luxury Disease" Asia tour to Manila. I asked Asis if he wanted to attend, and he said no due to unforeseen circumstances. I didn't wait in the queue when the tickets went on sale. They were sold out after a few hours.

Later, I read that they were going to open more seats. Since I still wanted to experience watching them live, I decided to go alone. I waited for the second batch to open and was contemplating getting a General Admission ticket. However, I ended up with an Upperbox seat. The area I got was on the furthest right, Toru's side. I had no problem with that because Smart Araneta Coliseum is just the perfect size. I could still see them on stage compared to MOA Arena or the Philippine Arena.

I was excited when the day came. I was even active in group chats. I also bought official merchandise t-shirts for myself and Asis. Thankfully, I was able to secure a slot since the t-shirt design we wanted was instantly sold out. Anyway, I was planning on making new friends. I said to myself that I would be Miss Congeniality that day. However, being the introverted person that I am, I made zero OOR friends.

The concert was amazing. They totally rocked! Taka's voice was just beautiful. What you hear on the tracks is pretty much the same live, or even better. They sang a total of 18 songs, including the repeated song "Neon." The first time they sang it, Taka had an in-ear monitors problem.

I was also hoping they would sing "We Are," which is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Instead, they performed their 2010 song "Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer." This was fine with me since I had read on Facebook group pages that Filipino fans were hoping they would perform this song.

So, the concert ended with all of us in high spirits and still wanting more. Just as I was about to exit the arena, I made three friends. They were long-time fans of One Ok Rock, while I'm a relatively new fan. I discovered them in 2018 and became an instant fan after watching their live performance videos.

All in all, it was quite an experience. I can't wait to see them perform live again, hopefully with Asis next time. I'm also looking forward to their next release.

P.S. I asked someone to sign my name on the fan signing banner because I had to work that day, and I might not have been able to make it if I had waited until after my shift to sign it. Also, I'm grateful to my sister for accompanying me to dinner before I entered the dome.

I brought my Instax Mini with me and used up 4 or 5 shots inside the dome. Unfortunately, the shots either turned out blurry or too dark. I expected this, but I was still hoping they would turn out fine. What a bummer.

What was your favorite part of the concert!!?

Everything was perfect!!!! The setlist, stage production, their performance, Taka's vocals, everything.

But if I have to answer, I loved it when each one introduced themselves in korean lol i was actually surprised at how good their pronunciation was!!!! They're all so nice and cute 😆

I also want to point out the fact that they played not one but TWO songs for the encore, wherever you are + kanzen kankaku dreamer. Everyone went crazy it was such an epic finale 😭😭

Reminiscing my first concert experience with One Ok Rock (because I can)

So I've been a fan of One Ok Rock a long time ago, quite around the time when they released The Beginning (I knew it through Rurouni Kenshin Live Action), and I was like 13 then. Around that time, they were touring, and yes, they did come to Malaysia. But I was too young and couldn't attend the concert so yeah, I only saw the concert reports. The venue was very small too, hahah. When I knew that they were touring for Luxury Disease, I was hoping that they would come here and yes, they did. I bought the ticket and attended the concert with my friends who share the same passion!

The concert venue - I was quite far from the stage but thats alright! Hahaha I enjoyed it nonetheless.

This was my first concert I attended in my life and they did not disappoint at all! They opened with Wonder and Taka was dancing cutely on the stage and I was HYPED asf (bcs the opening act was fun too)

Taka looked so good with the platinum blonde and I CANT BELIEVE I SAW MY TEENAGE CRUSH (TORU) LIKE WHEKAGWKAW

Their stage presence was crazy good and one thing I remembered the most was Taka telling the audio staff to increase his mic's volume bcs we (the crowd) was so loud and we were all singing together THROUGHOUT the concert. I love it, really.

My personal favourite would be Let Me Let You Go, I Was King, Clock Strikes, The Beginning, Wherever You Are, Make It Out Alive, and Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer (THE ENCORE WAS SO GOOD I WANNA CRY A LOT)

I enjoyed the concert very much although my voice cracked at the end but it was worth it.

Taka took a rose given by the fan and he was so goofy with it too 😭😭😭.

During the MC, even Taka was lowkey 'impressed' that we waited for 10 years for them to come back here. I'm very thankful that they come here again and one of my dreams was fulfilled <3

This concert was the highlight of my 2023 and honestly they helped me in a lot of ways.

As an old fan, I'm really happy bcs I got Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer as one of the encore songs BCS THE WAY I SCREAMED WHEN I HEARD THE GUITAR SGSJEGSJ INSANEEE

Kpop isn't really my thing, but pop in general isn't much my thing, tho I'd LOVE to hear some k metal or k rock if you know any bands. But i think hating on people just cause they like different music is... ugh. And i got to see MCR last night, and they were FUCKING AWESOME. But my parents were the ones that took me, and my parents just... kept putting mcr down cause... they're not [insert popular metal singer from the 80s here]. Like that's not them, that's not what they're trying to be, and comparing them is like comparing apple juice to orange juice and getting upset that the apple juice doesn't taste citrus-y. It's just so annoying. Just enjoy what you enjoy without putting others down. Pls.

yeah! that's what I'm trying to say! Congrats on seeing MCR! I'm seeng them too in a few weeks! Did you get to see burn bright?!?!?!? that's one of my top 5 songs and I'm heartbroken that wasn't my show :(.

I get people liking different genres but it's always at someone else's expense and I'm SICK OF IT. It is fucking awful. Not everyone is XYZ. And not everyone likes XYZ. I don't like a lot of things, but if someone else likes them, i would never insult them. because they don't deserve that. The only thing you can POSSIBLY do by insulting music someone likes is make them upset. And why would you do that.

I don't have any k rock or metal bands to suggest but i do have j-rock for you and then a few kpop songs just to see what happens ;)

so obviously, One OK Rock is the greatest j-rock band to have ever lived and i am seeing them in october (they are not ready for me), so here's my top songs:

Dari sekian banyak pengalaman, pengalaman 6 bulan jadi tutor ITC sangat berkesan. Awalnya aku cuma coba-coba daftar karena waktu itu banyak daftar ikut volunteer online. Kebanyakan tertolak karena gak masuk kualifikasi. Sumpah itu sedih banget rasanya.

Gak ada maksud apa-apa daftar volunteer banyak-banyak. Satu-satunya alasan karena gabut. Alasan yang gak bermutu sekali ya? Hahaha, tapi entah mengapa saat gabut kerjaanku banyak yang bagus dibanding saat serius. Serius deh, aku juga heran. Tetapi, gak mungkin aku gabut tiap hari.

Kembali ke pengalaman di ITC tadi, aku merasa sedikit tertarik sama mengajar. Karena selama ini aku denial mau ngajar. Aku merasa selama jadi tutor di ITC, jadi ngerti bagaimana ngajar di kelas secara online. Aku yang gak suka anak-anak jadi suka gara-gara ketemu mereka. Apalagi ngeliat siswa antusias di kelas itu seneng banget. Terus ya, semua volunteer sama pengurusnya itu welcome gitu. Jadi kalo salah, dikasih tau gak di judge. Kayak merasa bersyukur diterima jadi bagian ITC. Terus ya, setiap sabtu malam selalu dapat ilmu baru dari microteaching.
