Mmmmmmmmmm i dunno why I haven't asked this sooner. Who's your own current favorite OC?
currently that would probably be sichen because i love angsty guys with blood on their hands. i don't have much art for him yet tho because he's fairly new and i'm still figuring him out, so its just this so far i think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some physical notes: one of his ears is gone, you can still see the remnants a bit from the side view, but not much from the front. he does not have an eye color and he does not show his eyes. if he flips his hair back? no he didn't. but if he does, a bird will fly by to cover them. or an avalanche will occur, or everyone will sneeze. his eyes do not get revealed, even if physics must be broken to keep them hidden.
he is. Up To Things. and a menace. and he won't stop betraying people, but i love him dearly. and he would probably not even care about that at all.
in terms of all-time though (which i know you didn't ask but. i take any opportunity to talk about him), that would be beltran. i think he's my prettiest guy ever and i'm noticing a trend between him and sichen and that's the fact that they are both consumed by an obsession that has taken over their entire life and become their reason to live.
for sichen, that obsession is originally around resurrecting someone he loves, but then it turns into revenge :)
for beltran, he is consumed by a need to find out about the past, and his ancestors place in it. his family swore themselves to serve someone, but then that person disappeared. it's been hundreds of years, but he wants to find that person no matter what.
a rough illustration that i probably won't finish of beltran
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not super happy with the rest of the face so a close up crop but slightly more recent beltran art
people also often misunderstand beltran as evil i guess from vibes but he is not! he has been consumed by the ancient texts, yes, that is true, but he is really sweet. he is kind of a dick though when it matters. but in terms of overall morality he is a good guy.
Tumblr media
beltran also can turn into a wolf but it makes him very sick and his girlfriend gets extremely worried so he doesn't do it unless its a life or death situation. if he does it too much he will die (not joking)
Tumblr media
beltran i attempted to make in a picrew!! he is probably one of my worst picrew characters just because of the blue-black + two-tone hair and purple eyes. it's so hard to get a picrew that actually has stuff with the right shades
he is very heavily associated with the night, and the stars, he's someone you find in the hallways of the manor after dark, and you see him as a strange figure in the moonlight being cast through a stained glass window. when he's feeling well, he's in the library or the study, pouring over a stack of tattered scrolls, his wispy sleeves pulled up to keep them out of the ink which he scrawls his notes in, translating language after language. he is someone who keeps trying to work even when his body is falling apart, and the eyes of his loved ones fill with worry, but he is chained to the things he must know, and they drag him deeper into the abyss. "i'm so close to finding it." he'll mumble, the dark circles under his eyes taking more of the light from his face every day, as karina tries to get him to rest, reassuring him that there will be time tomorrow, and that it will all be easier once he's been able to sleep. watch him, he is a ghost already, he will not answer when someone says goodbye. "this is what i've been looking for." he whispers, reaching out. his fingers will run against rocks that haven't been seen in a thousand years, tracing the inscriptions that say he was right all along. and he'll see the person he's been searching for. it's finally his turn to live.

IBP Cagayan brings joy to flood-affected families in Pamplona town
#PHinfo: IBP Cagayan brings joy to flood-affected families in Pamplona town

- oc quote tag
thank you @teethcrunchrr, his post is here!
My prompt: a quote about their closest friend (how do they show affection? What do they appreciate in a person?) Your prompt: a quote about something they've lost (a physical object, a friend, their soul, etc)
---
Wolf: "Look, I'll give you some advice on the house. The best friend you can ever have is money. Cash, coins, capital. Family isn't forever, and friends give up on you. If you have money you have food in your stomach and a roof over your head. That's all you need to keep going, right? That other stuff? Don't need it. Trust me, I can walk away from these guys anytime. Don't let the fickle things hold you down. Just keep going, whatever it takes."
Boram: "My best friend is my boss when he pays me. My enemy is my boss who doesn't pay me enough. The girl at the convenience store was also nice."
Lily: "I'd really like to make a friend! Wolf and Solei are nice but I don't think we're friends. Wolf is more like a brother and Solei is like... Um, he's more like a dog? Is that mean?"
Solei: "That's... difficult! I'm grateful for so many people. Lately, it might be Wolf? He doesn't act like it, but it's hard not to get close to someone when you're sharing a bedroll most nights. I mean, I need to stop him from talking to people sometimes, but he hasn't tried to- well we haven't been caught. Haha, uh, I mean my mother tried to raise me well, she said some people just need extra care, I think he's just like that. He wouldn't do anything, no, well, ahem. He just has a unique personality, and there's nothing wrong with that, and I shouldn't judge him."
Beltran: "I don't know who blessed me, but I'm glad they did. She's done so much for me, too much, I don't deserve it— No one does. I'm grateful for her everyday, and my only wish is to see her change the world like she did mine."
Crane: "I talk to the shadows in the corners of my room and pray they keep me safe at night, I know at times they fail but I want to believe they're trying. Everything will be alright."
Merile: "I respect a person who doesn't make a crowd — a thought I'm certain couldn't cross that Aldot's thick head even if his precious sword did the carving. Stars forbid a man apologize for his own inconvenience."
Karina: "It's alright, I won't stop you. He's always been stubborn, so just... please tell me when it's over. I don't want him to do this alone. Please."
Fenn: "Both of them, I feel at home. Karina has given me opportunities to do what I love, and there's no one easier to talk to than Beltran. It's rare to know people you don't have to play pretend for."
Baltasar: "He was someone I trusted more than myself. I did all this for him, asking me to stop is saying he's not worth remembering. That is the one thing I will never do."
gently tagging @mr-orion and @kaylinalexanderbooks and leaving an open tag for anyone who would like to jump in

hello! random question, feel free to ignore. tell me a random fact that may or may not be plot relevant about one of your ocs but you love about them.
thank you for the ask chance!
i'm going to use this to talk about something i've briefly mentioned about serpent's quest but not really gotten into in full: the cyclical history
history repeats itself in serpent's quest. the actors and the results may change, but nearly every event mirrors another in the past. every character has at least one counterpart in history. counterparts are frequently related to each other, but not always, and not always in the way that you'd think.
specifically i'm going to talk about beltran alutokaba and his distant ancestor, first of the alutokaba name, maghi alutokaba.
the alutokaba family has a history of swearing itself to protect one of the three sisters. in the modern day, beltran originally swore to protect karina blackthorn. his ancestor, maghi, swore her blade to kotura.
both were unable to fulfil this oath in some way. beltran had to step aside due to his worsening health, and kotura left maghi without warning, and she never saw her again.
maghi never retracted her oath to kotura, but she did ultimately offer her blade — and later family, in service of another. the blackthorns. they had been one of the few families that hadn't been directly opposed to kotura.
now, in the present, beltran is dedicating the focus of his studies to mysteries — unexplained phenomena in history, gaps, and lost things that seem so important they should have never been lost. one of those mysteries is the disappearance of kotura herself, because she didn't just disappear on maghi. she disappeared on the world.
[Spoiler Warning for the Second Arc of Serpent's Quest]
his research, and the search for an answer, bring wolf and beltran together, to see if maybe there's something still left in the world that tells kotura's story in full. and what they find is both the answer, and the trigger for impossible amounts of new questions.
beltran and wolf find kotura's city — encircled in giant bones, underground, uninhabited, and unknown to time. and at its center, the woman herself, kotura. asleep. alive. and waking.
so my favorite fact about beltran is that, across the span of generations of lost knowledge, he is able to rediscover the person his ancestor loved so much that they would swear loyalty to another just to be close to their remnants. maghi kept her oath even through death.
this became... very plot heavy sorry. but it is one of my favorite parts of beltran's story so :)

random details about serpent's quest characters
wolf is the best cook out of the main gang, great with seasonings, and his flower powers just make him even better now. he's very resourceful even when he's severely lacking in proper ingredients
solei burns most food aside from the most basic of meals. jai does too but she does it on purpose, she's a decent cook when she isnt setting her food on fire, but thats rare because she never gets tired of the sensory experience of eating fire
boram always goes out to eat if she can help it. she can make the single person survival dishes but she really prefers not to
beltran is a pretty good cook, about at wolf's level, but his strong suit is baking. karina is decent but she usually doesn't have to cook her own food so she doesn't really have any instincts related to cooking, so its largely random whether what sbe makes is edible or just slightly very off. fenn knows how to cook but only their safe foods. they have trouble substituting ingredients.
beltran had a phobia of the red-spotted birds from a saihin folktale as a child, but it dissipated over time. red is still his least favorite color though.
wolf's favorite minecraft painting is the skull on fire
