♥ : Name one thing about the way their emotions work that they despise Rin hates, and I mean absolutely despises, feeling vulnerable. If she is beaten, or her glider is broken or down, she gets antsy. Another thing she hates is when she’s beaten, she’s a VERY sore loser, so much that she cries, which she feels makes her look weak. She’ll do anything to prove she’s worthy.

۞: Are there any inner demons they can never seem to get rid of? What are they?

Hate. Rin knows and feels hate towards people, and as much as she tries to calm them, sometimes the burning pain of wanting to actually hurt someone is more real than she can bear. This goes along with the emotions above, that if she is beaten, she wants to prove herself more than anything, which pushes her into an invalidated rage. She’s usually very good about checking this in, but on rare occasions it could push her further... depending on the reason, this could be either very good, or very, very bad.

              Never, not even within the furthest reaches of his mind, buried deep in the catacombs of his thoughts, never did he think it would come to this.

               She was always his better. His better, the elder, the wiser, the more skilled– the one who actually had Marcus du Couteau’s blood running through her veins. He had accepted it long ago, when he first stepped foot in the family mansion, sixteen and still with the grime of the streets clinging to his skin. Long ago, when she first laid eyes on him like he was the dirt beneath her boots. That is how it is, and how it will always be, he thought. 

               And yet here she kneels, Katarina du Couteau, pride of Noxus, wounded badly but not lethally, a blade pointing to her throat. He is the one holding the blade. He is the one who spilled her blood. 

               It should be the other way around. Him, on the ground, blood matting his dark hair, gasping and grasping at his torn clothes and gaping wound. Her, above him, knives at the ready, that patented du Couteau resolve shining bright in her emerald eyes. He closes his eyes before she strikes the final blow, his last thought knowing, for absolute certainty, that this is how it is meant to be. 

               And yet.

               And yet.

               Talon feels dizzy.

               She offers him an ultimatum. He knows that if they were in each other’s positions, that if they were in the correct positions, she would kill him. Take no chances. Take no prisoners. Blood for Noxus. In the end, he would be just another casualty. 

               But he stares into the eyes of the only person he has ever called his sibling in genuine sincerity, and he can’t. 

               He can’t. He can’t kill her. He drops to his knees, to her level, and reaches out with one hand like he wants– he wants something. 

               He wants a sister. 

               “Go, Katarina,” he says, barely a whisper. “Live.”

“Katarina's laughter was a shield. It had made her invulnerable in the past and that wouldn't change, not even now. He guessed she was wordlessly covering the holes of her silence with, he had been cruel, he had preyed on her past. Until her words stabbed him sharper than steel. Talon visibly tensed, his hand almost squeezing the blade's hilt.

But his head was down, his face shadowed under the hood, unreadable. He knew Katarina would see through it as if he was transparent, an open document to be read.

He took a few steps away from her, openly leaving his back vulnerable. Perhaps as a taunt or perhaps because he sensed she would not attack him. Talon stopped by the ledge, no blade was hurled at Katarina Du Couteau.

"That is why we are so different. I kill without passion, I am an assassin, orders and gold dictate my blade. I don't need to believe in this Empire to kill in its name. " Like a mercenary who didn't expect gold, his blade was sold for his obsessive loyalty, his hope, his hunger for information which would lead him to the shadows behind his mentor's demise.

"And that is why you will never be the assassin he needed." No, she was more than that, she was more than just a blade in her father's armory. She was the destined heir. She was not like him, she was never meant to, her blood was noble, his blood wasn't. The only blood which made him worthy was the one on his hands, his ability to assassinate any target.

Talon seethed in silence as he helplessly believed her. Had his lack of loyalty to Noxus truly been the General's disappointment?

"Your father needed a blade, not a son. And I succeeded in that." He finally spat, overcome by bitterness.”
