How many musicals can one single song be cut from? Let's take a look at Boys and Girls Like You and Me, written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

It originally featured in the 1943 musical Oklahoma!, but was cut before opening. I can't find any recordings of it from this show, although I would love if someone could prove me wrong. Very quickly, it was placed into the 1944 musical film Meet Me in St. Louis - this show has an original score by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane (at least nominally; Martin claimed after Blane's death that it was a solo endeavour), but contains songs from other composers, and this was to be one. Once again, it was cut at the last second.

In 1949, the song wound up on the cutting room floor yet again. This time it made it all the way to being filmed, in Busby Berkeley's film Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Again, this is a film with a score majorly by other composers (Roger Edens on music, Betty Comden and Adolph Green on lyrics), but with a couple of interpolations, as our song was intended to be. It was thought to slow down the picture too much; take a look at the clip below, sung by Frank Sinatra to Betty Garrett, and see what you think.

In 1957, Rodgers and Hammerstein finally get it in a show - their own Cinderella, sung by the Queen. Yet, surprisingly, it's hard to find clips of this, as it has been cut from every telecast of the musical. Technically in the score, the song's disposability seems to have struck again. It's on the International Tour cast recording below, which gives you an idea of its scarcity.

And, although it did not feature in the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical film State Fair, it did make it into the 1996 stage musical version, posthumous for both writers and interpolating many cut songs from their previous shows. Listen below:

STARZ and Channel 4 have commissioned a six-part thriller, “The Couple Next Door,” starring Sam Heughan (“Outlander,” “Suspect”), Eleanor Tomlinson (“The Outlaws,” “Poldark”), Jessica De Gouw (“Pennyworth,” Our Man from Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (Tigers, “How To Get Away with Murder”) from Eagle Eye Drama. The series is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the stultifying claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your darkest desires.

When Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into an upscale neighborhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety. But soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw). Sam Heughan heads up the cast as Danny who shares a passionate night with Evie, his beautiful but troubled neighbor.

It’s the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.

Starz confirmed Outlander will return for an eighth and final season consisting of 10 episodes to follow the hit period drama’s upcoming extended 16-episode Season 7 premiering this summer. And while fans will certainly be disappointed that Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) Fraser’s adventures across time and space will be ending, the show’s prequel series Blood Of My Blood has been greenlighted at Starz and will consist of 10 episodes.

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer. He continues, “the title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that ‘Outlander’ fans will know and recognize. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the ‘Outlander’ universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans.”

“For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming for Starz. “But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore of this dynamic world and its origin story. News of the new project began buzzing in summer 2021, with the network confirming it was in development last August. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel, Blood of My Blood will dive into the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

Roberts, who is also the showrunner and executive producer of the flagship series, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Maril Davis will also executive produce the prequel with Moore, who developed Outlander for TV, under their production banner Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also EP with Gabaldon, whose novels inspired the franchise, serving as a consulting producer.

Roberts, Moore, Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Balfe, and Heughan serve as executive producers on Outlander, which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures, and Story Mining & Supply Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Blood of My Blood will be produced by Sony Pictures Television. Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Karen Bailey will oversee the prequel on behalf of Starz.

Starz Renews Outlander For An Eighth And FINAL Season

As the headline says, that's it for Outlander. In addition, Starz has greenlit the 10 episode prequel series, "Blood of My Blood." Quotes, as well as a synopsis for the prequel and a video from the stars of the flagship show, below:

After months of speculation and uncertainty, ‘P-Valley‘ is officially returning for Season 3 where we’ll hopefully see Diamond escape karate hottie Big Bone’s kidnap trunk, Keyshawn survive her heart-breakingly hellish ordeal, Lil Murda step into his Rap star era with boo thang Uncle Clifford, and, of course, more PANK-POPPIN’ over the course of 10 freshly ordered episodes.

The long-awaited renewal was commemorated with a special video featuring all of our Chucalissa faves announcing Season 3.

The sophomore season of the hit series averaged nearly 10.3 million viewers across linear, VOD, and streaming platforms domestically (up +23% vs. Season 1 in the same time frame) making it STARZ’s biggest show in the U.S.

Gene Kelly became a star on Broadway by playing a heel in Pal Joey, so it's fitting that he made his movie debut playing a heel who becomes a hero in For Me and My Gal. Initially, he was too much of a heel for preview audiences, who indicated that they wanted Judy Garland to wind up with George Murphy instead of Kelly. So some additional filming and editing (eliminating a lot of Murphy's role, even though he was billed second below Garland and above Kelly) made Kelly's Harry Palmer more likable. The movie doesn't free up Kelly to do the kind of show-off dancing that he would later become famous for. It's a story about vaudeville, and the songs were nostalgic oldies even when the movie was first released. Harry Palmer is an ambitious hoofer and comedian who will stop at nothing to get to the top: the Palace in Manhattan. He muscles into the spotlight, breaking up with partners and stealing musical arrangements, to wind up teaming with Jo Hayden (Garland), whose ambition is similar to his but restrained by a conscience. When World War I starts, Harry breaks his hand to keep from getting drafted just as they're about to play the Palace and she tells him off, leaving the act. Naturally, the plot hinges on Harry's redemption. Busby Berkeley's direction keeps things lively, though the film doesn't feature the kaleidoscopic production numbers he became famous for at Warner Bros. and in three of MGM's "hey, kids, let's put on a show" musicals with Garland and Mickey Rooney. There's a subplot involving Harry's flirtation with a star called Eve Minard, played by Martha Eggerth, a Hungarian soprano famous for her performance in operettas. She was signed by MGM possibly as a replacement for Jeanette MacDonald, whose career as the studio's house soprano was ending. Eggerth sings splendidly, but she photographed less well, and the house soprano job went to Kathryn Grayson. For Me and My Gal is full of historical interest -- it was also the first movie for which Garland received top billing -- but it feels a little canned and unoriginal in comparison to the Freed Unit classics that followed.

BAFTA, ahora presentará honores especiales en América del Norte durante todo el año
