And now, perhaps the nichest shitpost I have ever made.

I spent way too long on this and it still looks bad lol.

(If you count adaptations, then Dani actually has two and Pryde has three, as X-Men Evolution made Dani and Kitty the pair with a soul-bond... I want more soul-bonds in X-Men adaptations. Give us more gals who have their souls become intertwined before their first kiss.)

I’m in the process of rereading the 1983 run of New Mutants and I had genuinely forgotten how much of Illyana’s narration is dedicated to her waxing poetry about Kate. It’s “My best friend Kitty…” followed by the most romantic declaration of undying love you’ve ever witnessed.

Look, I’m not trying to suggest anything, I’m just saying. Right before this panel, people at the Hellfire Gala were paired up on the dance floor. I’m just saying. Reach your own conclusions. About why these two are standing very close together and are probably breathing a bit hard.

Despite all my misgivings with the story so far, this issue was good. I'm so glad Yana is back in action.

Can we talk about this moment for a second?

Illyana went there as a last attempt to save her life, and when she was told that she was essentially about to die (like any minute now), she pretty much accepted it, and:

- Wanted to know if her brother survived the massacre

- Was happy that the last person she would get to see, and who'd be by her side when she passed, was Kitty.

-- Happy with the assumption that Emma quietly suspected the worst and had sent her someone she knew loved Illyana deeply so she wouldn't be alone in her final moments.

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Even though Illyana has developed friendships along the way, in her assumed last moments of her life, all that was on her mind were THE TWO PEOPLE SHE CARES ABOUT THE MOST.

It's such a perfect character consistency moment, and I LOVE IT.
