These aren’t some munchkins or some edible balls. These are Bokashi/Mabuhay Balls! These are made of clay soil and effective micro organisms and proven to help clean toxic waterways or tributaries. The technology came from Japan and Philippines adapted it. They are called Mabuhay balls for it gives life. Mabuhay from buhay = life. It gives life to toxic bodies of water like esteros. A size of a tennis ball can clean 1,000 liters of toxic water. In some places, this creating Mabuhay balls is already a source of livelihood as they earn 2.00 or 3.00php per ball made. One of the successful esteros where these balls were used was the Estero de Santibañez in Paco, Manila. Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig of ALKFI’s Bantay Kalikasan trains communities along esteros create Mabuhay Balls with the help of its partners.

Week 4: Analysis and Orientation
This week, we were asked to submit the analysis of case 1. While doing this case, my group sort of had a hard time as it was our first time to do it by the step-by-step process that we have previously learned. But after a while, we managed to analyze the case properly and make an ethical choice. We also discussed our case zero too which was entitled “The Parable of the Sadhu”. The Parable of the Sadhu was actually a good case to enhance our skills on analyzing cases.
Also on this week, we were finally informed that our partner organization will be Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) for our immersion and it would be in Paco, Manila. We were oriented as to what the community or organization is about, and what were proposed activities to be done during the actual implementation of the projects. We were given letters and waivers to be handed to our respective guardians, which were to be signed and submitted this week. After listening to the orientation for our immersion, I was somehow looking forward to our immersion day because I didn’t know what to expect to see and experience. Immersions are things that I look forward to because I know that I can make someone’s life better in some way.
We had our first quiz for this class this week and it was a bit of a challenge for me. This simply made me motivated to study harder for my next quiz.
