also curious: what're those book covers made of? they look like very thick card, which seems a bit flimsy to be the entire cover, but a bit stiff to be wrapped around a board to make the cover?

(I guess they're for paperback? question stands, though)

yeah they're card stock for paperback perfect bound! (ground and glued, not sewn signatures or anything.) This stuff is Keaykolour line, 111 pound cover weight—poundage is the weight of a set number of sheets at a standard dimension, it’s, well it’s important but it’s a really weird & arbitrary measurement to use outside of the printing industry. basically 111# is generally the heaviest paper I would use for foldover cards or covers, sturdy but still flexible in the page-turning as long as you get the grain direction right.

the physical thickness is in 1/1000s of an inch, if that’s a more useful measurement? the Keaykolour mics 19, a couple typical library paperbacks i just grabbed mic 10-15. This kind of card stock would be pretty wild for uuuh any large scale publication. it’s an awkward middle ground? lots of digital printers just won't feed stuff this heavy, and it would be WAY expensive to make genuinely large runs printed letterpress even if you put it on automatically fed presses rather than my hand-fed ones.
