Is there any interesting Jambu and/or Pineapple stuff in your rewrite? Or are they largely the same?

since this rewrite is focused around arc 1, i actually havent thought much about jambu or pineapple... jambu will still be in the hidden kingdom, but i'm not sure if pineapple will be relevant. he's still around, just in the background.

this is a good reminder to do more work with jambu actually...

starflight's arc in my rewrite is all about confronting his desire to be important/special. he's taken by the nightwings sometime between the lost heir and the hidden kingom after appearing on a battlefield to stop blister from killing king gill (will make sense after I share my tlh notes haha). prior to this, he was raised on lots of stories about the nightwings being very special, and he's always wanted to embody that.

on the nightwing island he meets his family (father and half-sister) and is placed at the head of the false dragonets of destiny. this is a very alluring thing to him, becoming the leader - he could start over as the powerful mythical dragon he's always wanted to be. of course, this façade gradually falls apart, and he eventually rejects the nightwings' plan in favor of choosing the prophecy and bringing it to fruition with his chosen family (the dragonets of destiny).

there's some other stuff going on in the dark secret as well, which i'll list here:

starflight replaces fatespeaker in the fake dod lineup. fatespeaker acts like she's totally okay with this, but it actually tears her up a lot, as she feels like she got thrown out the second a "better choice" showed up. starflight actually bonds with her quite a bit in tds, he helps her find meaning beyond the prophecy and in the process discovers things about himself & the nightwings.

starflight learns about stonemover while on the island! stonemover is spoken about in hushed tones, as a traitor who the queen wants dead. he comes up again in the brightest night, but plays a different role than in canon.

starflight gets into a fistfight with fierceteeth and some other nightwing teens. he loses.

a song I heavily associate with him is helplessness blues by fleet foxes.

Probably has been asked before but do you have bits of your AU/rewrite published anywhere? It sounds super amazing and honestly pretty unique— I’d love to give it a read, even if there’s only a chapter or two as of currently. ^^

hello! thank you so much for your interest, but unfortunately it isn't online anywhere - I have a big doc full of notes and am slowly sharing it into this blog. that's actually why I love asks so much, because I get to share what people are interested in without posting massive textposts all the time haha

If I do write out anything for it, i'll be sure to post it on here! probably it'd be scenes from the lost heir first, there's a lot in there that I feel is writing-ready. it'd also be fun to do little "character interviews", like maybe a short series on asking random dragons about their opinions on the war... i've done a lot of work on the politics surrounding the sandwing sisters, it'd be neat to explore that through conversations. maybe I could post 3 or 5 npc dragons and people can send in questions?

Can we hear more about the royal Seawing couple and their Issues tm?? I’m new here but DAMG if that isn’t such an enticing hook already…

absolutely!!! and dw about being new, I havent really gone in-depth on my au yet so im glad to talk about it :] one bit of lore before I start: the war started in 4996. in 4999, an absolute massacre of a battle convinced gill to pull the seawings out of the war, and he moved the whole kingdom underwater. coral backed him on this. this event is also when gill got all torn up, he was captured by burn & scarlet and very nearly killed before he could escape! orca tried to kill coral a few months after all this happened.

soooo anyhow! the way I handle the queens in my au is like a series of parables about ruling a kingdom. gill and coral are monarchs who let their own beliefs & feelings get in the way of being proper rulers.

gill believes firmly in the prophecy and wants to one-up the other kingdoms, especially burn's allies. when the dragonets of destiny bumble into his kingdom, he sees them as leverage against the others, who need them to end the war. he's also controlling and wants everything to go his way. In other news, he has a loose alliance with blister- he's agreed to back her if she wins but refuses to give her access to his army. she believes she can draw him back into the war. their relationship is tense and strange. blister would kill him, actually, if he weren't the door to an incredibly powerful army that she's convinced she can get back on the battlefield.

meanwhile, coral has lost 6 eggs to the statue and is stricken with grief and paranoia over it. she's very wary of anyone involved with the hatchery. at first her and tsunami are very close, but various things - her many neglected sons, torturing a hatchery guard, etc - drive them apart. coral has complicated relationships with all of her children, actually, but especially with anemone, turtle, and tsunami. she eventually improves, but that doesn't come until later (if I were to rewrite arc 2 it'd be a big part of turtle's story).

final note: yes, gill is still alive in the lost heir! tsunami killed her brother prince seal in the arena instead.

are you doing anything interesting with the original skywing dod or the skywings in general in your rewrite? i feel like the skywings are rarely or never explored outside of peril which is really disappointing bc with their military culture and the changes that come when ruby becomes queen,their canonical breeding program imposed by scarlet and them being the only dragons to have a form of religion,believing in reincarnation,they have the potential to be SO interesting and they just ignored by the writing.

absolutely fair, though honestly I think all the tribes are lacking in terms of fulfilled potential... especially with religion! here's hoping that guide book expands on it. I haven't done too much worldbuilding yet, but I plan to expand on each tribe individually - I super love worldbuilding so it'll be really fun :]

the skywing dod still dies in-egg, but I have stuff planned for the rest of the kingdom. I also changed up scarlet and burn - scarlet sees burn as a fun & stable ally, while burn enjoys forays into the sky kingdom's bloody arena sports. they get along well as vitriolic best buds!

as for the rest of the kingdom... first i've gotta explain the situation with tourmaline and ruby. tourmaline and ruby are NOT the same dragon, they're sisters! tourmaline has always been smart & ambitious, she fled the capital when scarlet started suspecting her of wanting to become queen - she knew that, if she didn't get out of the way, scarlet would kill her before she got the chance at a challenge. she's been traveling the kingdom and gaining support for her political ideas (not 100% sure what she's all about yet...) meanwhile, ruby is her older sister! she's a single mother who dislikes scarlet but has decided to stay in the background for now, primarily for the safety of her young son cliff.

when queen scarlet gets incapacitated at the end of the dragonet prophecy, tourmaline jumps back into the spotlight, planning to use her mother's injury to take over. some skywings rally behind her, others rally behind scarlet, and woops! civil war!

this conflict is in the background of the rest of the arc. tourmaline eventually wins, though i'm not sure when in the timeline that'll happen... i'm still working out a lot of the politics here, too.

either way, this is a major part of peril's arc, which is also going on in the background. peril wants to support tourmaline and fight for her, but most skywings think of her as "scarlet's attack dog". we last see at the meeting in the darkest night, when she's standing beside tourmaline to represent the skywings. ...or maybe she's with ruby, representing tourmaline? I dont know yet haha

but yeah! the sky kingdom is going through some things. one I do some worldbuilding i'll post that too! :]
