Had an entire day without anything on my teaching schedule. Since it was finally a bit cooler, trekked over to DC to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, where everything was in bloom.

The Forgetful Bee. Sorry, anthropomorphizing is fun. We are fun. Therefore we are calling this the forgetful bee. It is also a male Florilegus condignus, collected and photographed by Chelcey Nordstrom in the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington D.C. on Pickerelweed, which makes sense since it is a Pickerelweed specialist.

What sort of very very tiny colourful flowers and arangement can my character use for their garden. There is a pond as well so aquatic plants will work as well, and part of the garden is a steep slope.
This depends somewhat on how much shade or sun the garden is actually getting. It is something your character will have to consider when choosing their plants, especially aquatic plants are prone to sunburns in climates with harsher sunlight.
tiny plants for a pond
azolla or mosquito fern
Canadian pondweed
cardinal flower
creeping Jenny
pitcher plants
sensitive plant
water clover
water hyacinth
water lettuce
water sprite
tiny underwater pond plants
anacharis
cabomba
moneywort
tiny garden flowers
Angelina sedum
baby’s breath
bugleweed
brass buttons
common periwinkle
creeping phlox
Cretan oregano
dwarf lady fern
fairy foxglove
forget-me-not
ice plant
Kenilworth ivy
lobelia
rock cress
snow-in-summer
sweet alyssum
sweet woodruff
thyme
tufted pansy
slope plants
climbing hydrangea
creeping phlox
superstar creeper
verbena
wintercreeper
All of the above plants have tiny leaves and flowers, however some of them require a little maintenance to be actually kept short. There are also some neat foliage plants in here, but more so on the waterside of plants since those are limited to begin with.
Now there is nothing against a garden full of tiny colourful flowers, even short tiny colourful flowers, however the eye enjoys some rest with larger flowers or decorations that aren’t as intricate. When it comes to arrangements they are usually meant to form a complimentary contrast to their surroundings. A very bleak room with simple large shapes will benefit from an arrangement with lots of things going on it, and the other way around.
Furthermore, the arrangement depends on what it is. Is the entire garden the arrangement? Does your character have different containers they want to decorate with plants? Where is the arrangement located in the garden? Arrangements are planned based on available space, their placement, as well as how sun and shade the plants are getting.

Best Time to Visit Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is a National Park Service site located in the northeast corner of Washington, D.C., and the Maryland state border. The gardens are home to a variety of aquatic plants, including lotus, water lilies, and a variety of grasses and reeds. The gardens are open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the summer months, when the plants are in bloom. Read the full article

This month’s post is also based on photos taken at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (KAG) in Washington, DC.
The first one is my drawing of a dragonfly and then there is the photo of it that I used.
As I was walking through KAG I saw what i thought was a conch.  And when I walked around I saw that it was actually a dried up lily pad.  The flowers are beautiful.  And then there was the turtle.  The frogs moved too quick for me to get a photo fo them.

Flowers and giant lily pads at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens near DC. As usual for me, I loved the reflection in the water. Surprisingly vivid in the color on this one.

@ladyoldstones (and her camera) and I ventured right down the road to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in DC this morning. It’s known for its lotus and lily ponds. Heat index was already 101 at 0930. Love finding awesome stuff in our own backyard!! I didn’t know lotus plants grow 5-6’ tall!! They were beautiful to see.
