Kermit and Friends: Happy Birthday Elisa

Elisa Jordana’s birthday is on Wednesday so she decided to have her Kermit and Friends birthday show on Sunday...... what in the World could possibly go wrong during Elisa’s birthday week?!

Well, when you’re engaged to Andy Dick... anything crazy can happen on any given day. It’s doesn’t matter if it’s the week of your birthday or if you’re about to have a baby.... the only thing you can count on with Andy is that there will be chaos in his life that will impact you as well if you’re deeply connected with him.

I want to be sincere with my thoughts on the Andy Dick situation but I also want to refrain myself from being too hard on him. At the end of the day... Elisa cares about this guy and it’s tough for me to be critical about someone she cares about. So I will just try my best to explain how the situation was presented by Elisa and give my thoughts on it without being too blunt.

Andy was arrested Saturday night. Allegedly he had an altercation with Lucas that led to Andy bashing Lucas over the head with a metal chair. Andy’s roommate Jesse G-Rider indicated that it wasn’t serious and that Lucas got the cut on the back of his head from something else. However, Jesse is extremely loyal to Andy so it’s not easy to just take his word on this, especially when we’ve seen Andy’s aggressive side before on the show.

Elisa thinks jail can be a positive thing for Andy. He has a place to stay where he (possibly) can’t get drugs and doesn’t have enablers surrounding him 24/7. I predict though that Andy won’t be there for long. Lucas will either drop the charges, or some of the trap house peeps will come through with the bail money. 

Unfortunately, it is extremely unlikely that this will be some sort of wake up call for Andy like Elisa and others hope it will be. Andy has been arrested many times in the past and it didn’t seem to change a thing. I doubt this is any different from those times. Andy Dick will still be Andy Dick.

Both Elisa and also Sugar see something in Andy’s charm and smile that makes them believe that the real Andy Dick is a super sweet guy who dearly loves Elisa. How do we know that “sweet” side we see from Andy isn’t a manipulative side of him that coincides perfectly with his volatile side? To me that’s more likely the case since Andy is more cruel than he is nice from what I can tell. Then again, I’m not around him in real life so I can be way off base. It is wrong for me to judge either way... it’s just my gut feeling on the matter I guess.

What I do understand is that Andy is very fascinating and charismatic, and his life is something that’s difficult to take your eyes off of once you start paying attention to it. He’s great for Kermit and Friends, he’d be great to help Elisa progress her entertainment career if he actually gave a darn to help her.

It is my opinion that Andy does not care about Elisa and he will never benefit her life outside of fun content for Kermit and Friends. Elisa opened up about a reality TV show opportunity she had that Andy blew because Andy didn’t want Lucas involved. If it wasn’t Lucas, it probably would have been something else. Andy openly plans trips to Vegas and Detroit, and has no interest in inviting Elisa, only his “boy.” If Andy truly loved Elisa, he would be making these grandiose plans and vacations with her like she’s always trying to do with him.

Elisa’s mom is visiting this week and Elisa is having a big party for her birthday. I pray it all goes well and that Elisa has the time of her life. If Andy becomes involved though I will be worried about that. I guess we’ll see what happens. At the end of the day, even if it goes badly, it still gives Elisa a great story for KAF, so it’s a bit of a win-win situation for her regardless. My biggest concern is that if Andy can be this violent with Lucas, he can be this violent with anyone. I don’t want Elisa around someone like that, but she is a big girl and I will trust her judgement. 

Now... enough with anymore negative thoughts! Elisa, looking like she’s about to turn 25-years-old, still managed to give us two great interviews for her birthday show with two very cool and powerful ladies, Fallon MacNeil and Rachel Luba.

Fallon MacNeil is one of Coach Love’s friends. She is the author of The Missing Puzzle Piece, a book aimed towards helping children who have a parent that’s incarcerated.

The father of Fallon’s child did over a decade in prison. It inspired Fallon to not just help her daughter understand and cope with the situation, but to help others going through the same pain and confusion. It’s a very admirable cause. It’s also coincidental that this guest was booked and Elisa’s fiancé ends up in jail the day prior, but I digress!

Rachel Luba is a high profiled sports agent that famously represents Trevor Bauer, a guy who won the Cy Young last year (an award given to the best pitcher in Major League Baseball). Because of Bauer’s success, Rachel managed to help get Trevor Bauer one of the largest contracts in sports history.

Rachel opened up to Elisa about how she was shot down by someone big in the industry when she first decided to pursue sports agency as a career. Women couldn’t make it, she was basically told. Well, Rachel proved him wrong!

Rachel and Elisa also talked about the plights women have to endure from the media and trolls constantly assuming they must be dating whoever they work with. It really has to be obnoxious to hear that all the time but at the end of the day, Rachel is doing what she can to normalize her situation so that the general public won’t jump to conclusions like that.

After Rachel shared about eating disorders she’s had, Laurie popped on to seek advice on what she can do to deal with depression eating, as Laurie called it. Rachel tried her best to give Laurie sound advice, and eventually the topic geared towards Rachel being criticized for showing off her body on social media. One female sports reporter thought low of Rachel because of it, until she decided to reach out to Rachel and hear Rachel’s side. That led to this ESPN article if you would like to read more about it.

Moreover, Rachel is a bit of a trendsetter in the agency World. Instead of being paid a percentage of what her clients make, Rachel gets paid directly for the hours she puts in. I’m very interested to see if this catches on. I’m sure professional athletes and entertainers alike have to be intrigued by this. It seems much more fair than just nabbing a percentage of a contract they didn’t earn. The money they earn is the time and work they put in, so they should be paid for that instead. Many props to Rachel Luba for setting this new awesome standard.

Anyway, both Rachel and Fallon were great guests. It’s always a blessing for Kermit to make new friends like this, and hopefully it shined a bright light on Elisa’s birthday show for her.

That said, they weren’t the only bright lights! Claire from New Jersey called in and sung a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday to Elisa. Wappy did two gorgeous covers, She Talks to Angels by The Black Crowes and Cumbersome by Seven Mary Three. Johnny B did a karaoke version of Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night) by Ronnie Milsap in which he was joined by Sigmond, who he himself sung The House of the Rising Sun by The Animals earlier in the show. It was so awesome to finally hear Sigmond sing... he did a spectacular job!

All in all I thought the birthday show was a tremendous success and a very good time for everyone who tuned in and participated. What more could you ask for? I just hope Elisa’s birthday party goes splendidly too and that she’s blessed with so much joy and happiness this week like she deserves. Happy Birthday Elisa, you are dearly loved. ❤️

We’ll Come Too

On a Thursday, you wake up to an empty bed.

It’s the middle of the week, and you have completed your second semester at Union, finishing out the year with a curated undergraduate exhibit and another talk in the Art Building. You haven’t responded to the contract renewal yet, still deciding on whether it might be a good time to take a sabbatical and focus on your own work.

Although being surrounded by your contemporaries and seeing the changes that photography has undergone in the past few years has been great, not to mention staying faithful to a schedule has helped your life immensely… there is just a certain freedom that you are lacking. A freedom you really enjoy having.

You are reminded of this freedom as the sun cascades through the open blinds and over your eyes. This past year, you’ve been up before sunrise most weekdays. You smile, eyes still shut, reveling in the fact that on a Thursday, you can stretch and yawn and remain in bed for another hour if you wish.

You do just that, squeezing your hands into fists as you crane your neck upward and stretch your spine. Then, grabbing the pillow to fluff it a little more, your hand lands in something silky. Perplexed, you slap your palm around and wipe your eyes with your other hand. Another silky thing touches you. And then another.

When your eyes finally open, you see that the bed is covered in BLOOD WHAT THE FU—

Oh. Your heart settles when you realize it’s not blood at all. The bed is layered in red rose petals. Both your hands fly to your face as you take deep breaths, scolding yourself to calm down because you nearly just had a heart attack.

“Bucky?” You call cautiously, sliding off the mattress and brushing off the bits of red on your shirt. “Steve?”

When nothing answers you back, you follow the trail slowly from where your house shoes are to the half-open door. It leads you further, down the stairs, past the walkway, and through the kitchen until finally, you stop by the couch where two men stand in the middle of the living room, arguing.

“You are so stupid!” Bucky hisses, showing Steve his middle finger.

“Real mature, Buck.” Steve responds, pinching his nosebridge, “Will ya just ---”

They pause when they see you leaning on the couch, rubbing your eyes. “What’s happenin?” You ask, picking up a petal and sniffing it. “I rolled over one of these. I think—think there’s a stain. I thought it was the horse scene from The Godfather.” Turning, you try to point your nose to a damp spot on the small of your back. Bucky’s t-shirt indeed had a light pink smudge. “Is this gonna wash out? I love this shirt.”

“Babe,” Bucky calls.

“And who had to tear off all these petals? Who’s hands are red?” You ask, flinging the petal in your hand down.

Steve sighs your name but hardly gets a syllable out before you interrupt again.

“And who is going to sweep all of these up?!” You cry.

They call your name in unison and you snap out of your moment. It’s then you see that Steve and Bucky have dressed in matching trousers and dress shirts. The curtains are all drawn. There are candles lining the perimeter of the room and they balance on their heels, bashful and quiet.

“Guys?” You ask, feeling a sudden pitch of your heart as they stare at you lovingly. You, with a sloppy night-time bun, bunny slippers on, wearing nothing but Bucky’s oldest shirt, threadbare and crumpled, drool-stained and all.

Steve smiles first, taking Bucky’s hand in his as he steps forward. You reflexively back up, but Bucky’s short chuckle makes you pause, and he takes the opportunity to reach out to grab your hand, too. “We got ya somethin…” He murmurs.

You blink. “Is it… breakfast?” You ask, peeking over to the dining table where two more candles flicker. Sometimes they’re not sure when you are joking and when you are truly oblivious. Their girl, always independent and headstrong, sometimes became so silly in their presence.

“No.” Steve laughs, slapping the hand holding Bucky over his face. His other hand, you notice, is behind his back, and your heart suddenly drops into your stomach and feels like it’s about to fall out of you completely. “It’s better than breakfast.” He grins.

“C-C-candy?” You ask, trying to steer the conversation somewhere stupid—somewhere else. “D-did you—ge-get me—oh Christ.” Your eyes fill up with tears when he pulls the velvet box forward. “There’s a Jolly Rancher in there, right?” You whisper.

Bucky wipes a tear from your eye when Steve gets down on his knee. “I’d do it too, but these pants can’t contain this ass.” Bucky snarks. It earns him a laugh before another tear drips down your face.

“Honey,” Steve says quietly, looking intently at you even though he’s not much more than a blurred shape of sandy hair and two blue marbles. “We love you so much. You mean so much to us, sweetheart. We’re so happy to have you…” He pauses, “I just… I can’t think of another way to show you how much… Let’s get married, baby.”

“He had another speech, but I told him it was stupid.” Bucky comments. “Lots of references to World War II—can you believe?” But you can hear the shudder in his voice, the threat of a faltering last word, as his throat closes up with emotion while he waits for you. His hands are clammy and squeezing tightly, and you almost pause to comment because Bucky, nervous? You would have never imagined it.

Turning to face him, you see Bucky chewing on his lip, nostrils flaring just a tad to keep himself from crying. His nose is tinged pink, and you nearly jump into his arms to soothe him if it wasn’t for Steve peering at you with such earnest.

“C’mon, doll. Don’t make two old men wait.”

You can’t help but let loose a happy sob and nod your head because it is all you can get out now as your face and chest feel nothing but salty wetness pouring out. Steve slips the ring on your finger and you take a second to wipe your eyes and look at it.

A simple silver band shines like gold under the candlelight. Encrusted on top by a delicate smooth setting sits a clear blue diamond, a little green, a little grey, a perfect reminder of their loving gaze.

Steve finally stands up, brushing his knees as he holds your trembling hand up to his lips and kisses each knuckle in reverence. “What do you think?” He asks, thumbing the jewel on your finger.

You place your hand over your chest, taking Bucky’s fingers in tow. With a damp smile, you reply, “I think I need to brush my teeth before I kiss either of you.”

You announce the engagement over a group text to Tony and the others. Soon enough, a caravan of Avengers arrives with champagne tucked under their arms and you are scrambling to arrange some kind of fruit and cheese plate for all the guests. Natasha finds you in the kitchen and slaps your hand away before ushering you into the living room.

Pepper is there first, pulling you into a firm hug, sweeping your still wet hair to the side and placing her hand on your cheek.

“I’m so happy for you. It’s a wonderful feeling.” Her voice is wavering and gentle, and you return her hug with enthusiasm, hoping to convey to her all the gratefulness you feel for her.

Tony springs open the champagne bottle, and because there are no flutes in your new home to house them, he pours the bubbling liquid into ceramic mugs and wine glasses instead. An array of mismatched objects you’ve collected.

“What is this, a cabin?” He mutters with a little smirk as he sips champagne from a Kermit the Frog mug. They laugh and cajole, Sam is shoving his elbow into Bucky side and rubbing him about being a taken man, even though he’s been taken the very second he met you. Across the room, where Steve is being pat on the shoulder by Clint and Bruce, he sends you a smile.

All three of you, basking in the glow of the afternoon, surrounded by clinking glasses and laughter, rose petals crushed under your feet, share a sweet second of silence together before returning to the world.

The new ring on your finger still feels out of place and you can’t help but twirl it round and round, finding the jewel on top with your thumb repeatedly. Bucky and Steve are stacking mugs into the dishwasher as you take a minute to yourself. There are so many things to consider, so many technical aspects of a marriage, planning and pondering, where to have it, what to serve, who to invite, what you’ll wear and what they’ll wear, and how it will work with three.

Your mind wanders to only one thought, and it chews relentlessly deep in your gut.

A hand settles softly on your shoulder and you look up at Steve’s kind eyes. “Baby,” he calls, “We’re with you.”

“Yeah.” You say with a deep breath, placing your hands over his. “Yeah, I know.”

“Whenever you’re ready, we’ll come too.”

Bucky peeks over his shoulder, patting his hands on the back of his trousers and offering you a sympathetic lift of his mouth. You reply with a cagey smile of your own and then shake your head, letting loose your hair before leaning back onto the cushions.

“Let’s go on my birthday,” You summon the courage to plan the first step, “It’ll take the edge off hearing the news.” And you don’t mean about the engagement. You are talking about the relationship—the Binding-- altogether.

The two men nod, letting you steer. It’s been nearly a year since they’ve been with you, since they met you, and became Bound to you. Now, there is a new chapter with a home decorated and filled with love, and an approaching celebration to mark the blessed union. It’s been nearly a year now, and Steve and Bucky have not yet met your parents.

Steve leans down to kiss you, hand cupping your jaw, mouth pressed firmly on yours in a promise:

We’re with you. Whenever you’re ready. We’ll come too.

“i promise this will be fun, kermie. it’ll be lots of fun i promise.” zebby was nodding as she walked in front of the two. she wore tiny heels that clicked against the pavement along the side of the house.

“i believe you.” he mutters.

“i’ll make sure he has fun, zebs.” atlas chimes, the grin clear in his voice.

“good!” she turns her head around with a grin. “these guys have been so nice to me, it was so lovely of them to let me bring everyone. and i figured it’d be a good place for you to meet elijah.”

kermit stopped in his tracks. “wait what the fu—”

“we can’t wait!” atlas cut him off, dragging him forward.

zebby swung the bag she clutched as she walked a bit faster, and opened the gate, immediately greeted by two dogs. “hi guys!” she stooped over, giving them both scratches on the top of their head.

soon enough, they were approached by the hosts. Standing side by side, glued in some fashion as always. “hey guys!” maggie grinned.

“happy birthday!” zebby stepped forward to give her a massive hug. “thanks for inviting me.” she gave a big squeeze before letting go, and turning to gesture to her tall companions. “this is my brother kermit, and his boyfriend atlas.”

“nice to finally put a face to the stories.” vincent chuckles as he stepped forward to shake both of their hands. “good to finally meet you.”

“oh! and this is for you.” zebby holds out the bag to maggie, who takes it slowly.

“this is too kind. vinnie, look, the bag has a little puppy on it.” she holds the bag up to him, and he gives a look over, placing an arm on her back.

“that’s cute.” he gives them all a quick look, and a warm smile. “i wish i could chat, but i have a grill to supervise.” he gives a nod. “beer and drinks are all back there, help yourself. food should be up in twenty.” he points as he walks back into the sea of others, joining another couple in a fit of laughter almost immediately.

“hey,” maggie grabs her attention by gently touching her elbow. “i thought mister handsome was coming.”

“he is, should be here soon. he had to come right after work.”

maggie hums and nods. “i look forward to seeing him again. but i should go make sure my troll friends don’t eat all the meat as it’s on the grill.” she points behind her, and zebby looks over her shoulder to see, sure enough, the tall couple giggling and extending their hands to pick over the meats of the grill. the tall blonde even managing a piece of meat and grinning in victory, the male grabbing her hip to pull her away.

“they look like they’re good at it.”

“you have no idea.” she laughs, giving her a pat on the arm. “make yourselves comfortable.”

zebby turns back to kermit and atlas, who were petting one of the dogs that came to say hello. “do you guys want to get drinks?”

kermit held up his hands. “i’m driving.”

atlas stands, and takes zebby’s hand. “let’s go find something.” he leads her over to the cooler, and opens it up. he lets out a low whistle. “you have some real hipster friends, zebs. this shit is hard to find.” he takes a bottle out and looks over the label. “you’d like this one.” he gives it to her, and takes a different bottle for himself. “guess kermit’s having a sprite then.” he shrugs when digging the drink from the very bottom.

the cooler shuts and he presses his forearms onto the top, leaning closer to her. “i can’t promise the goblin will behave when prince charming shows up but i’ll do my best.”

zebby gives a sheepish smile, keeping her head low. “i figured it wasn’t going to be easy any way i brought him over.”

“i know.”

“he’s also dumb.”

“i know.” she smiles.

atlas leans forward brushing his finger against her nose. “but i’m excited to meet him and i promise i’ll be nice.”

she nods.

when they came back, they found a seat with kermit at a table, sipping their drinks. zebby was still getting used to seeing them act like a couple. hour kermit would reach over and pull atlas’ sleeve gently when he wanted to show him something on his phone. how when atlas looked over, he rested his head on his shoulder. or how kermit kept putting his hand on atlas’ leg. it was nice. just so different from what she grew up around.

when she was hanging out with kermit a few weeks ago, she brought up the flaw in how she was fully supportive of him and atlas, but he showed disdain for her relationship in return. he argued it was different because she knew atlas and he didn’t know elijah. she said it wasn’t fair regardless. none of this changed her relationship, but she knew she hadn’t changed his mind very much. but she knew atlas was on her side and slowly trying to win him over.

finally, she’d gotten the buzz on her phone saying that elijah was finding a parking spot, so she left atlas and kermit to their own devices while she ran out to the front, where he was walking up the sidewalk.

shocking how she could go almost a week without seeing him and then when she saw him again, she was desperate for him. so when she made eye contact with him, and the grin spread across his face, she broke out into a sprint and launched herself to wrap her legs around his waist and arms around his neck.

he grunted, taking a step back and holding onto her tight in response. “i missed you too.”

there was a tight squeeze between the two of them and he let her down, his hands resting on her arms. “you look beautiful.” he huffs, brushing back some of her hair. “almost makes me forget how nervous i am.”

“i’ll be good, i promise.” she grins, only to suck in her lips. “well, i can’t promise that, but i’m going to try my best. come on, we just need to get it over with.” she turns around abruptly and takes his hand, dragging him back around the house to the gate, where she pokes her head around to see kermit and atlas sitting close together, looking at their phones.

zebby steps out, elijah not far behind her as she brings him to the table. “hey guys.” she announces. “i’d like you to meet elijah.” she gestures up to him.

her eyes are glued to kermit, who looks uneasy and skeptical as he stand sup. He’s polite enough, thank god. they all shake hands and without atlas’ radiating positivity and jumping head first into a conversation, zebby’s pretty sure she would melt away from awkwardness.

shockingly, elijah’s taller than her brother, which kermit clearly notices, and she’s certain by his scrunched nose that he’s not crazy about it.

“kermit, why don’t you get elijah a beer.” atlas rubs a hand over his back, giving a warm smile.

he shoots his partner a glare before stepping away to go to the cooler.

“i’m so sorry but he’s going to be weird and slightly rude all night. promise it’s nothing with you. he’s just got no idea how to handle this.” atlas chuckles nervously, onyl to reach out for zebby’s arm and tug her closer. “but you have the most precious gem and we all just want her to be safe and happy.”

zebby blushes, eyes big as she watches elijah. his smile only half tilted and his hands shoved into his pockets as he chuckels. “yeah i have no idea how i landed this one but i don’t plan on hurting her.”

“mm, that’s what people usually say.” kermit grumbles as he steps back in, holding out an opened beer.

atlas gives kermit a kick, smiling at elijah. “you seem great. zebby talks so highly of you, really.”

atlas carries the conversation for a while. she’s beyond thankful for him and his ability to ease the tense situation. then she’s even more thankful that food is ready and they can take a break to stuff their faces. they step away from atlas and kermit to go eat under a tree. picking off of the same plate, she likes when elijah reaches forward to wipe off the cause from the edge of her lips.

“thanks for coming.” she says, her knees resting on his thigh as she traces over the ink on his arms. “it wasn’t really fun but i appreciate you doing it.”

“well, i can’t just not meet the most important people in your life.” his hand rests on her skin, rubbing his calloused thumb over her milky skin. “i’ve been in a lot more questionable situations.”

she hums and nods. “kermit will come around eventually. he’s never been in this spot either and i usually only tell him about guys when i’m crying over them.” she looks down, bashful.

“ah,” elijah nods, rubbing his hand over her skin until he reached up to brush back her hair and grab the back of her head. “it’s fine, zebby. i’m sure he’s a great guy, and i get he just cares. he’s not starting any fights so i can’t blame him for just being protective.”

an exhale leaves her nose and she shakes her head. “he gives me such trouble but deep down he knows he has to deal with it.” leaning into his body completely, she smiles. “i’m going to keep you around for as long as you’ll let me.”

his hand pulls her closer, kissing the top of her forehead. “good think i don’t plan on getting rid of you any time soon.”

Well…I believe we all had a fun Tuesday (maybe not the Birthday Boy. He’ll be fine)! Here’s to next year’s entirely-too-many-kermit-posts!
