car stuff is so stupid
it should not cost me almost the same amount of money to replace my key fob as the windshield?
i have given up on having power locks ever again with this car now. manual key entry it is! maybe if all it needed was reprogramming i could save up $90 for that. but what if that’s not the issue? if i have to replace the whole damn thing they’re gonna charge me at minimum $350. it’s fucked. it’s a key with a watch battery that unlocks my doors. it should not cost hundreds of dollars

i cannot believe i really waited in my passenger seat of my hot car at an extremely busy gas station for 6 and a half hours with my knee barely cracking it open bc of how wide the RVs filling up next to me were. felt fully unable to leave or move bc i was terrified i wouldn’t be able to get back in because my doors automatically lock themselves over and over

This is fucking ridiculous. Btw the baby is okay, of course they broke the window glass.
My mom has a Volkswagen and when her key fob died and she couldn’t get in it, she had to call AAA. There was a keyhole on the car, but it was hidden and my mom had no idea.
Now, electric cars, especially Teslas, are dying in extreme heat and trapping people inside. Apparently Teslas Only have a manual release inside the car, that many people don’t know about and is utterly useless if a baby is trapped inside the car! It’s absurd.
There needs to be regulations against this, not having a way to use a fucking physical key to open a door is a potential death trap. And if you’re going to hide the keyhole and levers, (which btw why??) there should be a huge fucking instruction on how to use before they can even take the car off the lot.
So please, if you own an electric car please be aware of this problem and learn how to open your car without electricity. And if it can’t, like the Tesla from the outside, make sure you have a window breaking utensil. (Which btw, you should have anyway)

what even is the point of a 'keyless car' if basic principles of designing a car so people can use it means that you have to have a key in there so you can start your car when your key fobs battery dies

This is a great tip I heard and wanted to share…
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
Next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the intruder won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone.
P.S. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My friends mom has suggested it to her Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.
This may save a life!

My car's battery almost died 😓 Since it's been having that transmission issue, I haven't been driving it and forgot to plug it into the charger. My app read it at zero but my key fob still worked so there's something still there. Now it's charging.
I gotta call some automotive repair place, and I know which one I'm gonna call, but I need to figure out my script before I call. Dad won't understand that, but maybe I'll get some mercy since my car had to be charged anyway lkjhsdfg. Dreading the thought of potentially having to drive it while it's Like That. But we'll see

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.
Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.
Please pass this on even IF you've read it before. It's a reminder.
