June 20th - Osaka Day Trip (Last Day)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, this is the last blog post and I am definitely in my feels writing this. This past month has been real and it’s definitely going to be hard to say bye to both Japan and the people on this trip. I really hope that we meet up in the fall and do something fun, maybe during sylly week or for Chelsea’s sign-night. This group is definitely a little weird, but I love it. However, I do miss home and all the things that come with that including hooping, going to the beach, playing poker, and spending time with friends and family. Whether it was going to see a kabuki play or sipping a much-needed drink on the top of a gorgeous rooftop bar with beautiful views of the city, this trip has been nothing short of amazing and I am definitely glad that I was able to visit this interesting country with such interesting people. I do hope that my peers feel the same way. I’m going to miss playing Uno and gaslighting people to buy me ice cream the most. Ok, now that the sentimental part is over, time for the actual blog post. Today, I woke up extra early and went to Starbucks (where I didn’t see girl Sam surprisingly) and got a strawberry donut and did some work. I came back and got ready for the day. Today’s lecture really just consisted of our favorite parts of the trip and what we thought the professor could’ve done to improve it. We commenced our Osaka day trip with an hour-long train ride, which we were able to pass the time through a shared music experience through Spotify. Imagine having Apple Music, I feel sorry for you. We got to Osaka, where we immediately split for lunch and our group got cut off from the small group of five that had the best curry on the trip unfortunately. Our katsu was ok. We met with the class again and headed to Osaka castle. We took pics here and it was hot so I kept kidding around by pretending that I was at a prom after-party by unbuttoning all my buttons on my white shirt. You had to be there. Vishnu likes taking strange pics of me when I randomly lick my lips and had my shirt unbuttoned. I also taught the group how to properly griddy here (that’s a dance move mom). I felt cool in the moment because I hit it well and then flipped my fan out at the same time. Afterwards, we hopped on the train again and went to a neighborhood that was supposed to mimic American culture, but other than the McDonald’s, there wasn’t anything distinctly American. Then we kept walking where we eventually split for the last time as a group in the heart of Osaka. I had a strawberry ice cream, thanks to Vishnu. We then did some thrift shopping, but at first I couldn’t find anything. Xander and I also took a break and we got smoothies; I got an acai flavored one that was extremely refreshing. Everyone was buying goods, and my wallet was itching to spend money, because I love shopping but wasn’t finding anything. Eventually, at the last store we went to, I found a lovely Dior sweater that I believe was reasonably priced for what it was. After that, I led the group of Xander, Sebastian, Nico, Aulora, Casey, Chelsea, and Eliza to team-labs Osaka. Vishnu met up with us because he had gone to the Osaka aquarium. It was cool and relaxing to walk through the garden that was decorated with changing lights and interesting designs. Some of us (Xander, Vishnu, Aulora, Chelsea, Casey, and I) headed to a local restaurant, where most of us got pork yakisoba. After that it took us a while to get back to the hotel because there were delays on the train due to a derailment. I showered and got ready to go to bed, but Nico and I went to Family Mart first to get some sweets and have a good chit-chat. We love chit-chatting and talking chisme (gossip).
Academic Reflection
By the end of this course, it is evident that all of us students have learned so much, even if we haven’t always done the dense readings. We learned about the youth sub-culture of Japan with anime and manga, while also learning about the traditional aspects such as tea ceremonies, history of cities, and Buddhism. I found it incredibly interesting that on one street, one can find beautiful traditional temples with ornate gardens and then several blocks over, the entire street would be adorned with lights, colors, advertisements, and anime characters.
The previous reading was concerned with the urban organization/planning of Osaka and Kobe (shoutout Vishnu). As Professor Smith explained, Osaka was previously a major merchant city that heavily relied on movement and trading of goods, which fostered a more casual environment and societal structure. In class, we discussed how buildings are constantly being destroyed and taller, more modern buildings are constructed, leading to a constantly new skyline. It also contributes to a decrease in traditional buildings. This method contrasts that of Europe, in which many cities will purposefully place regulations to keep the traditional scenery of the city. Cities in Japan definitely display a greater mix of modern buildings with traditional buildings compared to cities in Europe that typically have separate zones for traditional building areas and modern building areas.

SO i watched the old guard and loved it and i have a habit of combining things i love and it’s 1am and i can’t get to sleep until i purge this from my brain i think SO consider this
Five jumps in time into the apocalypse and - he dies. Of course he dies. Maybe it’s the time jump itself, managing to rip himself apart because he tried too much too soon. Maybe it’s the apocalypse itself that kills him. Regardless, he dies.
And then he wakes up. And he’s fine. And he continues on.
Except - he has weird dreams. He dreams of - of all these people? He dreams that they’re in the apocalypse as well. It’s weird. He would brush it off but, well, he keeps dreaming of them. Again. And again. And again.
(He likes dreaming of them, honestly. When he doesn’t dream of them he dreams of ash and fire and his siblings dead and decaying and wailing at him for failing them.)
He continues to live in the apocalypse and years pass and - he’s not getting older. He cuts his leg open on some rocks, and it heals way too quickly. All of his injuries are like that, actually.
(He spends a whole week starving to death over and over again once. It isn’t pretty. He doesn’t even know he’s dying.)
Eventually he comes to a conclusion - his time jump fucked him up. He’s in a permanent... stasis? Sort of? He keeps continuously returning to the state he was when he jumped through time, including his body now? Rejecting injuries? Presumably because he wasn’t injured when he jumped?
It makes sense to Five, shhh.
And then he gets picked up by the commission. and then he doesn’t shoot JFK. and then he goes home.
(He keeps dreaming about His People. They aren’t in the apocalypse when he isn’t, which is nice. They’re probably some weird manifestation of his subconscious, considering his brain keeps casting them as people during the time periods he’s visiting)
Now I know what you’re thinking - Five is dreaming about these glorious weirdos in the apocalypse, obviously they would try to find him because they’re dreaming about him as well, right?
See, the thing is this: Andy doesn’t remember the exact date she first had a dream about The Boy.
(The Boy definitely deserved the capital letters, because he’s the weirdest enigma that they never solved.)
But she remembers her and Quynh being horrified because - the next immortal was a child? They freaked out about it and tried to write everything down they could remember to help them hunt the kid down.
And they tried - they did! for a whole three days! except after those three days the dreams just - stopped. cold. nothing new.
This was, of course, super super confusing. And maybe they would have written it off as a shared hallucination if it didn’t keep happening.
There’s no pattern to when they dream of the kid. It just happens. Sometimes a few times in a year. Sometimes there’s decades or centuries between dreams. The first time Nicky and Joe dream of him, Andy has to sit them down and explain that no, don’t worry about it. Yes she knows that it’s a child. No, he’s not a new immortal. They’ll stop dreaming about him in a few days, a week tops, it’s fine. No, she doesn’t know What The Fuck That Is About.
By the time Nile joins the team it’s sort of a weird inside joke. There’s longstanding bets about when the boy will pop up in their dreams again. It’s fine. Okay, so it’s weird, but their lives are already so goddamn weird.
(So imagine the old guard fresh in the apocalypse, no human life on earth. they’re dreaming about the boy again, and the only weird thing now is the consistency of it. maybe they’re in europe or something, but most of the planes have been destroyed in whatever-the-fuck took out the population of the whole ass world. it might have taken years to literally find and dig each other out of the rubble. yeah it’s weird the boy is not a frequent dream thing, but it’s not like it’s urgent.)
Anyway, Five jumps into his family’s courtyard and stumbles out, and eats and peanut butter and jelly sandwich, avoids questions about his age by rambling about quantum versions of himself, and goes to Griddy’s where he ends up getting attacked by commission goons and having to walk home barefoot because he had to ditch his shoes
(The Commission couldn’t put a tracker in his arm. His body kept rejecting them somehow, thanks to his... weird temporal nonsense. The Handler kept promising him that they’d find a way to fix him or whatever, but they never did. Assholes.)
Now, the Old Guard squad go to sleep and, thank you, start dreaming of Five in all his somewhat feral glory.
They bolt awake and - “You guys owes me so much money.” Nicky crows victoriously, because he totally won the pot on the next kid dream year, thank you very much.
And any other time that would be the end of it, because they’re used to these fleeting dreams of the boy.
Except Nile exists now. And of course she’s like, we have to find this kid.
Of course the others try to explain to her - except Nile points out a very important fact: it might have taken weeks or months or years to find other immortals back in the day due to travel times and lack of information and all that. But it’s 2019 baby. They have the internet and very fast plane travel. Did you have that when Booker was a baby immortal? no. it took them like, a day to go hunt Nile down though.
“You say you dream about him for a few days or a week or whatever.” Nile points out to the group’s dawning realization, “Well we have the power to get to him in a few days. So we can find him.”
“If we find him then we can never bet on him again though.” Booker points out, and Nicky who is in the process of gloating about his latest win (Nicky has won three times in a row motherfuckers) looks a bit crestfallen. Andy, on the other hand, just looks determined.
“Get off your asses.” Nile says firmly, spinning her laptop around and showing them the one (1) result for a “Griddy’s Diner” that she found that matches whatever the fuck the dream showed her, “We’re going to America.”
“Again?” Nicky complains, “I thought we swore to not go to America again for at least a century.”
(Until Nile’s family definitely dies, they don’t say.)
So they all begrudgingly go to America, during which time Five manages to get called potentially insane by his favorite sister, not get any sleep, bribe his brother to investigate an eye that doesn’t exist, and mourn losing his one lead to who the fuck started the apocalypse.
I don’t think Five or the og squad were expecting to actually meet.
But they’re hunting Five down and looking around and Five is pondering his next move and then just - across the street, their eyes meet.
“YOU.” The OG squad bellows, because Five has been a goddamn mystery for literally thousands of years.
“Me?” Five says, very confused, like someone who has definitely had trauma induced hallucinations and flashbacks whose dream characters decided to show up on the street outside his house for some reason.
And they go over to Five, and Five is like “wow what a weird hallucination to be having, maybe if i ignore it it’ll go away because that’s a healthy mindset to have (:”
and then one of them touches him and just -
Five lashes out. It’s instinctive. He has a knife and he just - stabs. Automatically. and his dream person winces and steps back and -
(He stabbed his dream person. Hallucinations don’t touch him they’re not supposed to touch him and they can’t be stabbed what - )
And then the dream person heals before his eyes.
“I probably deserved that.” Booker muses, grimacing at the hole in his new shirt thank you very much.
“You’re not real.” Five says a little too loudly and a little too insistently to sound at all convincing as he takes a step backwards.
“I’m not real? You’re not real!” Nicky butts in, slightly offended, “You’re the one that keeps - keeps vanishing!”
“Oh my god why are you all disasters.” Nile mourns putting her face in her palms as though she can block out her new weird family by sheer force of will.
“Hey, remember when you died?” Andy offers with a shrug which just makes Nile groan louder. “What’s that about? I’m not even shooting him this time.”
“You can’t shoot him, he’s a baby.” Joe gasps, gesturing towards Five’s thirteen-year-old self.
“I’m not a baby!” Five snaps, bristling on autopilot because the rest of his brain function is stuck on a repeat of “what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck”
“Baby boy. Baby.” Nicky backs his husband up, leaning against Joe and smirking.
“Am not!” Five growls, “And give me my knife back!”
“Finder’s keepers.” Booker says nonchalantly, spinning said knife in his fingers, “If you didn’t want me to have it then you shouldn’t have stabbed me with it.”
“It’s my brother’s knife, you can’t have it.” Five argues.
“Booker.” Andy says firmly, making Booker shrink a little like a scolded child, “Give the kid the knife back. How would you feel if I took your gun?”
“You wouldn’t take my gun.” Booker mutters, handing an increasingly confused Five the knife back, “I would simply shoot you.”
“Ooh,” Nicky snickers, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
“Don’t encourage them.” Joe says, nudging at Nicky. Which would be fine if he hadn’t added in a slightly lower tone that they could all still hear, “Fifty on Andy.”
“That’s a sucker’s bet, my love.” Nicky laughs, pressing a kiss to Joe’s cheek.
There’s a beat of silence.
“No offense, but what the fuck is going on.” Five states rather than asks, clutching his slightly stolen knife (Diego didn’t even notice when he’s snagged it which honestly means he didn’t deserve to keep the weapon) tight to his chest. “Are you guys... with the Commission?”
“What the fuck is the Commission?” Joe does not whisper to Booker, who is supposed to be the research guy but he just shrugs because he’s useless.
Anyway that’s how the whole Old Guard squad winds up in Reginald Hargreeves creepy ass mansion trying to explain to an increasingly erratic immortal child that, yeah, he’s a little bit immortal. No it doesn’t have anything to do with his powers (powers?? powers??????? what the fuck i mean yes their lives are already so goddamn weird but there is a line and Booker draws it at teleportation what the fuck).
What’s this about an apocalypse?
(When they asked Five for his age, they were not expecting a curt ‘fifty-eight, probably’. Yes they are now aware there is funky time travel involved - which honestly explains so much about the frequently vanishing immortal - but still.
He looks baby but also he is baby. He’s younger than Booker!! Not even a century! They have two whole babies on the immortal squad !!)
“The world is going to end on April 1st.” Five explains, looking deeply uncomfortable. And afraid.
(And young. So very terribly young. He’s been thirteen-years-old for a long time. If these people are right - he’s going to remain thirteen until his immortality, what, wears off? Which could be literally thousands of years in the future?
He has family god damnit. He doesn’t want to outlive them. He just - he just wanted to see them again. To save them.)
And honestly why not. Five has already demonstrated teleportation. Time travel does explain his random popping into their lives via dreams. Why not? And let’s be real, they have way much more to lose by not believing him than believing him.
“Alright let’s stop an apocalypse.” Andy says, clapping her hands together.
“You’re going to help?” Five asks in a small voice, because he had sort of resigned himself to going at it alone.
“Give me the number for the eye.” Nile says kindly, “We have someone we could contact about that sort of thing, or at the very least who can keep an eye out for when it is manufactured and let us know.”
(RIP Copley when he realizes he has to deal with anything involving the Umbrella Academy. I am sure they were a very deep thorn in the governments side for a long time tbh)
“Who The Fuck Are All These People In Our Living Room.” Luther asks, Very Loudly, with Allison close behind.
And yeah. No one really knows how the fuck to answer that, let’s be real. What are they supposed to say? Hey, sorry for crashing, we’re here to lowkey kidnap your newly re-found brother because surprise! he’s immortal! Because that would go over so well.
Anyway, so the Old Guard squad are just there like,, trying to teach Five about his newfound immortality (at least he’s got good at the whole “fuck cameras” thing during his stint in the commission, though admittedly there were plenty of mission from pre-camera times. ah, the age before technology.) and also adopt him? because being immortal means family and family means no one gets left behind (or forgotten, hello Quynh)
(okay yeah they tried to put Booker in time out that one time but after a few years they were just sad and everyone was texting him anyway so now it’s just something they bring up at every opportunity. Joe wants the first turn in the bathroom? Booker, you betrayed him. He was a lab rat, Booker. And on and on until Booker throws up his hands and gives in. Yes, fine, you can have the bathroom first.)
And the Umbrella Academy usually would leave Five to his own devices but... look. Five might have vanished for seventeen years or whatever but he’s still their brother and they can be surprisingly territorial.
At least some people are getting along like a house on fire.
(“You were a crusader?” Klaus asks with wide eyes, “How does that even work?”
“What, being gay?” Nicky asks, tilting his head, “It’s fine. I have a permit.”
“A permit.”
“Mmhmm. From the Pope and everything.”
“I kind of want to be you when I grow up.”)
I can’t tell if things would go more smoothly or if the fuck ups would be even more epic in proportion. On the bright side, the apocalypse probably wouldn’t happen because Andy and Nile immediately clock Leonard-Harold’s serial killer vibes.
(Leonard realizes they’re onto him and tries to kill them which is a big mistake lmao, bye bye Leonard)
It probably ends up in an all out war against the Commission honestly, and the OG squad and the Umbrella Academy teaming up to destroy it.
(“How is this even going to work?” Allison asks at one point, gesturing at Five and the old guard.
“Shared custody?” Joe suggests brightly before doubling over because Five has pointy elbows and is not afraid to use them.)
Andy and Five probably go feral together at one point and it sure is something to behold.
“Now that is a kid who understand what a signal is.” Booker admires after a particularly large explosion happens. Nile just nods along because yeah.
(“How come you guys get to call Five a kid without being stabbed?” Klaus complains.
“He isn’t even a century old. I’m 250 and I was the youngest until Nile popped up.” Booker shrugs.
“We’re in our 950s.” Nicky says, “If little Cinque does not want to be called a kid he should have been born earlier.”
“How old is hot axe woman?” Klaus asks, absolutely enraptured.
They OG squad all exchange a look and just collectively shrug, “Old as balls.”
“Besides,” Booker says dismissively, “What’s he going to do about it? Kill us?”
and that ends that conversation)
(They also don’t discuss how young Five is. How young he was when he died. How that’s going to effect him all his life. How he’s going to be old in years, but he’s always going to be thirteen in the same way that Nile is stuck in her 20s. Sometimes it seems like the immortals are getting younger and younger in age and... it sucks.)
anyway just. Old Guard and Umbrella Academy shenanigans as they stop the apocalypse and try to look after the semi-feral teenager they have been saddled with and figure out what comes next

Pt 14 - Donuts, Doctor's Visits, and A Mannequin Named Dolores
Leaving the house and the rest of the Hargreeves behind you guided Five to where you kept your car in the back alley next to the academy. As you got close to it, unlocking the doors, Five flashed ahead a little bit before opening the passenger side door. You stopped for a second, fully noticing what he was doing, and smiled. And as you approached the car and he extended his hand out to grab yours and help you get in. What a gentleman. Once you were fully in the passenger seat, Five carefully closed the door before walking over to the driver's side. Sliding into the driver's seat he attempts to start the car before he realizes he can't.
"I think you're going to need these." You comment, handing him the keys
Five takes the keys from you, and finally turning the car on he starts to drive towards Griddy's. It wasn't a long drive, really the two of you could've walked it if you wanted but something about taking the car just felt like a better decision. It was nice to just get to be alone with you, to have a moment to yourselves without the rest of his siblings around. Especially Diego who had made it obvious he did not want Five to be around you at all. Diego was just going to have to learn to cope with that fact because Five was not going anywhere without you again. As the car pulled up across the street from the donut shop, Five put it in park, before spatial jumping outside your door. Just as he opened the door for you to get in, Five opens the door once more and extends his hand to help you out. Walking towards the front door Five opens that for you as well, allowing you inside the place before following behind.
"Wow, you're such a gentleman. I would say I'm surprised but I'm not." You comment
"What do you mean?" Five asks confused
"You planned a whole party to celebrate six months of us being friends when we were 12. You got me flowers and a teddy bear, remember?" You replied
"Right, I did do that." Five recalls "Although all I really remember is how nervous I was to make it perfect."
You let out a little laugh at his response. He was cute. Sitting down at the counter, Five took the seat to your left as you looked around the place. You didn't come here very often after Five had disappeared. There were so many memories made and so many donuts had in this place. It was almost nostalgic to be back in it. To be back here with him.
It was quiet in the shop, and there wasn't a server in sight. Seeing a bell on the counter Five rings it and as he does so an older gentleman opens the door to the shop before taking a seat on the counter chair to the left of him. Within a few moments, an older-looking waitress emerges out from the back of the store and over to where the three of you sat. Reaching for a pen from her shirt pocket and her order pad from her waistband she looks at the man says,
"Sorry, the sink was clogged. Now, what'll it be?"
"Uh, give me a chocolate eclair." The man responds
Looking from the man over towards you and Five, she assumed that you must be his kids. Although there was something interesting about the two of you. It felt like deja vu in a way. Had she seen you two before? Turning back to the man she asked,
"Can I get the kids some glasses of milk or something?"
The man looked at her confused. He didn't know either of the kids sitting there with him. When he came in they were already there. The man opened his mouth to respond but before he could do so Five stated,
"The kid wants coffee. Black."
"Jelly donut, please." You added
The waitress looked shocked at Five's curt response but nevertheless wrote down the order as it was. Giving a glance to the man, the waitress hesitantly commented,
"uh, cute kids."
The man looked back at her just as confused as she looked at him while the two of you awkwardly smiled at the waitress. Deciding she had enough of this conversation the server left to get the items you requested.
Five looked around the shop just as you had done only a few moments ago. The place was a little more run down and dingy than it used to be all those years ago when he used to frequent it with you. The white walls had seemed to yellow with age and everything seemed just a little more outdated.
"I don't remember this place being such a shithole. When I was a kid I used to sneak out and come here all the time with my best friend and just sit and talk for hours." Five mentioned to the man "Simpler times."
"I- I suppose" The man replied weirded out
Returning with the coffee and pastries, the server placed them down in front of you all before heading into the back once more. Not wanting to be around the two weird kids sitting next to him anymore the man takes out enough cash to cover his eclair and the items the two of you ordered before wrapping his eclair in a napkin and quickly trying to leave.
As the man walks away Five noticed the tow trucking logo on the back of his jacket. Calling out to the man, Five asks him for a specific address which the man responds with promptly before leaving the store. Turning back towards you he sees you staring at him.
"What is it?" He questioned
"Y'know, I didn't notice it earlier but you slicked your hair to the side like you used to. It looks nice." You replied
"Oh. Uh, thanks." He said reaching up to touch his hair
"Although I think the disheveled mess that you first showed up with suited you better." You added
Five smiled at your comment, he would have to keep that in mind going forward. There were so many things the two of you wanted to say but no words came out. Instead, the two of you said in a peaceful silence as Five drank his coffee and you had your donut. As you sat you could hear the door open from behind you and the bell on the door jingle a little bit. As if running on some type on instinct, both you and Five looked into the bell on the counter and saw the reflection of men with guns in it. You both continued to sit forward as you gave Five a side eye and whispered in serious tone,
"Five."
"Let me handle it." He whispered back
The number of footsteps entering the room grew and yet you still didn't move to look. As you continued to face forward, there was a heavy silence before Five said,
"That was fast. I thought I'd have more time before they found me."
More time before they found him? Who was he talking about and why would they send a bunch of men with assault weapons to come find him?
"Okay, let's all be professional about this, yeah? On your feet and come with us and we'll talk." A voice from behind calmly said
"I've got nothing to say." Five replied
"It doesn't have to go this way. Y'think I wanna shoot some kids? Go home with that on my conscience?" The same voice asked
"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that." Five stated "You won't be going home."
You watched as Five's hand slowly creeped forward towards the knife resting on the counter. As he gets closer to reaching it you can hear him whisper firmly,
"Invisible. Now."
You weren't sure what you needed to prepare for next but you sure as hell were going to do what you were told right now. Immediately, you turn invisible before phasing through and ducking down behind the counter.
"What the fuck!" A different voice exclaimed
With the group of armed men distracted by your unexpected disappearance, Five took the opportunity to spacial jump behind the man who was talking to him. Using the knife in his hand he stabbed him in the neck causing him to accidentally fire off rounds from his gun across the shop and into one of his accomplices causing them too to accidentally fire their gun as they fall to the ground.
Still invisible you peered over the counter top to see Five flash away and reappear across the room. Laying on his side across a table top he called out,
"Hey, assholes."
While the circumstances were concerning, you did have to appreciate his confidence. The number of armed men in the shop was still numerous and upon hearing his voice they turned their guns on Five and began to shoot at the area. It didn't matter though because he had already spatial jumped out of the way of the bullets, reappearing outside the door.  From outside Five knocked on the door causing the man directly in front of the door to turn around and start shooting. He must not have learned from 30 seconds ago because Five was gone by that point. The cocky bastard was toying with them.
You weren't just going to let Five fight these gunmen alone though. Pulling out one of the knives you carried on you, you immediately threw it at one of the men landing the knife in his neck before using your powers to push it fully through. As the knife exited the other side stabbing itself into the wall the man fell to the ground without another movement.
Appearing inside the store once again, Five quickly broke a mop before stabbing the broken wood handle into the side of another gunman. As that gunman dropped to the ground, he jumped across the store again. Taking his tie off he wrapped in around another guy's neck before pulling it back and down so hard that the gunman's neck broke. Pivoting he grabbed a knife off a table stabbing another gunman in the crotch before using the same knife to stab him in the eye.
As Five worked the guys on one side of the store you saw two closer to the side you were on. Revealing yourself, you taunted,
"Over here fuckface."
The two guys turn towards you, with one of them quickly reacting by raising their gun and starting to shoot. It didn't do anything though as all the bullets went through you hitting his partner who just wasn't quick enough. Using your powers you melted the gun the one man held causing the molten plastic and metal to start eating through his flesh. As he writhed in pain as you transported yourself behind him, kicking him to the back and sending him to his knees. Grabbing at his hair, you pulled his head back exposing his neck, before pulling out another one of your knives and slitting his throat open.
Five's heart raced as he watched you swiftly and effectively take out the final gunman. You were so impressive. Grabbing his uniform tie off of the man he killed with it, he puts it back on, tightens it, and tucks it back into his sweater vest before making his way towards you. As he approached you both noticed one of the men on the was ground still moving and he watched as without hesitation you went over to the man and snapped his neck. These ones were dead, but more were sure to be after him and he needed to make sure they couldn't track him as easily. Grabbing your knife that was stuck in the wall, he pulled it out before pulling up the sleeve of his jacket.
Turning around from the man you just killed you saw as Five was digging into his forearm with your knife. You looked at him confused and horrified as he pulled out some small device of sorts from his arm. Grabbing a cloth napkin from behind the counter, he cleaned off your knife and handed it to you, before wrapping the cloth tightly around his arm, and walking out of the destroyed store. Following him out, you saw as he dropped the device down a sewer drain outside. As he walked back towards the car he pulled the keys out of his pocket and grabbed the driver's side door. Summoning the keys to your hand, they fly out of Five's and towards you. You watch as he turns around with almost a shocked look on his face.
"You are not driving my car with a fucked up arm." You state firmly "Get in the passenger side."
Five nodded his head as he made his way to the other side of the car. As Five got in on the passenger side, you slid into the driver's seat and started the car, driving off from the shop as quickly as you could before the cops could show up. You knew if you were still here by the time the cops showed up, you would have a lot of explaining to do to someone. As you continued to drive on, Five spoke up stating,
"(Y/N), the academy is the other way."
"Yeah, and so is the closest police precinct." You replied curtly "We're taking the long way back."
As you continued to drive there was a heavy silence. You were confused and upset at whatever had just happened. On a day that you thought couldn't get more chaotic, it did and in the worst way possible. Trying to cut through the silence Five started,
"(Y/N)-"
"What in the ever-loving fuck was that Five?" You cut him off
Five could tell you were very upset. Rightfully so, no one other than Five himself would probably expect to have a bunch of guns shoved in their face at a donut shop. Maybe he could downplay this a bit. Make it seem like it wasn't a super big deal so when he explained what was actually going on, it would be easier to comprehend.
"Just a bunch of gunmen. The crime rate must've gone up over the years since the academy disbanded." Five lied
"Bullshit." You stated angrily "They talked to you like they knew you and you talked the same way back to them."
Damn it. That did happen. Why did he even think he could fool you in the first place? You were a highly intelligent and capable person and he knew that. This wasn't how he wanted to start the introduction to what is going to happen in 8 days but he was going to have to.
"Fine. They're people who are trying to keep the future as it is." Five explained
"The future? You came from the future?!" You questioned loudly
"Oh, that's right, you weren't there for that conversation..." Five recalled
"NO!" You yelled louder "WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF FUTURE DID YOU COME FROM?"
"I'm concerned you're going to crash the car if I tell you now but I'll do it when we get back to the house." Five explained
Letting out an annoyed huff, you responded,
"Fine."
For the rest of the ride, the two of you sit in silence. Five knew that you were upset at what had happened but he also knew that if they figured out you were important to him they would've killed you on the spot or taken and tortured you so he would come back to the Commission. He couldn't let you get hurt, he refused to let that happen.
When you got back to the house you both walked inside quietly and upstairs towards the bedrooms. Passing by his door you pointed him to his room and without any further instruction Five walked in and sat on his bed.  Quickly, you went to the bathroom and grabbed a first aid kit before making your way back to him. When you went back to his room, you didn't look at him instead you took his jacket from him so that you could take a look at his arm. Undoing the makeshift bandage he had made from a napkin you placed a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol and where he cut himself applying pressure to it. He didn't make the deepest of cuts, so it could've been worse but you still needed to stop him from bleeding. You continued to sit quietly hoping that the blood would coagulate enough for you to be able to bandage it up. After a while though, once the bleeding had finally slowed you put some antibiotic ointment over the cut and wrapped gauze around his arm to keep the cut from getting infected. It definitely wasn't perfect but you hoped it could work for now and you could get your mom to check it out tomorrow. As you finished dressing his wound, you had calmed down from your anger in the car and were ready to talk. Looking up towards Five you said calmly,
"We're home now, so I need you to tell me what is going on."
Five took a deep breath. After all his time in the apocalypse, vulnerability was something he was not accustomed to. He had never talked to anyone about those 45 years but he trusted you and hoped you would accept what he had to say.
"(Y/N), when I went to the future do you know what I found?" Five asked quietly
"What?" You responded
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. From what I could tell I was the last person around. I had to survive on scraps, whatever I could find because there was nothing else." Five explained, "I don't know what happened to cause it but I do know when it happens."
"When?" You questioned
"Eight days from now." Five responded, "And I'm trying to stop it."
"So those people back at the donut shop want to-" You started to ask
"Stop me from doing that." Five finished
Your jaw dropped in disbelief at what you were hearing. Eight days from now everything would just cease to exist? No people, no anything, and no idea on how it's going to occur? Your mind started to race and you just froze. Today was just filled with surprise after surprise and with each new one, it was getting harder to process. First, it was seeing the Hargreeves grown up, then it was Five coming back, then it was realizing that times had changed, then it was getting attacked by gunmen, and now the world was going to end, your best friend lived through it and there was a bunch of people trying to kill him so he can't stop that. It was too much for one day, you couldn't take anymore, and you needed to go. Abruptly standing up you gave Five a horrified look.
He knew it was a big admission but he hoped even after everything you would be able to understand. In a way, he needed you to understand because after the experiences he had with his siblings today, you were the only person actively accepting him being back. Standing up he grabbed your hand, hoping it would help you but more so because he hoped it would help him too.
"Are you okay?" He asked softly
"I don't know..." You replied, "It's hard to be okay after finding out the world is going to end."
"No, it won't. I'm going to-" Five started to explain
"Five," You cut off "I can't do this right now."
It was too much and you needed to be alone. You couldn't process anymore and especially not around him. It hurt to leave him but you just couldn't do this. Taking your hand from him you quickly exited the room and went down the hall to your room. Quickly closing your door you grabbed your teddy bear from Five off of your dresser, climbed in bed, and stared at the ceiling hoping things would start to make sense. Sure, life stopped making sense the day you met Five, but this was a new level and once more you needed to adjust. Things would get better if you just kept moving forward right? It's what you had always done. You just hoped maybe you could do it again.
Back in Five's room, he had stood frozen as he watched you leave to be in your room. Sitting back down on his bed, he placed his head in his hands. He fucked up.
"Idiot." He chastised himself "You should've known it would be too much for one day."
Laying back on his bed, Five stared at the ceiling his head filled with thoughts. Why did he tell you today? After all the mess that had occurred, why didn't he just let you process a bit before throwing another thing at you? Maybe he just hoped that after all these years he'd be able to throw anything at you and things would be okay, just like they used to be. It seemed like times had changed, but he was going to fix this. He was going to fix everything. He had eight days to stop the apocalypse, eight days to save the world, and most importantly eight days to make sure you could have a future. Looking at the clock on his desk he saw how many hours of the day he lost because of everything that had occurred. He was losing time and he needed to go stop this. Getting up out of his bed he quietly made his way out of the room and looked down the hall towards where yours was. Even if you didn't want to talk, he at least wanted to tell you he was heading out. Walking down the hall to your room he saw that the door was slightly ajar and there was light creeping out from the cracks. He gave a light knock but there was no response. Carefully, he pushed the door open only to see that you had fallen asleep with the teddy bear he gave you in your arms. For a moment you looked peaceful, but then the image of you lying dead in the apocalypse crossed his mind. Walking over towards you he needed to know you were okay. Crouching down by the side of your bed, he brushed some hairs that had fallen in your face back before placing two fingers on your neck checking for a pulse. When he found one a wave of relief came over him. You were fine and he still had time to stop the horrors he had seen but he needed to go.
"I don't know if you can hear me but I'm going to head out for a bit so I can stop this mess from happening, okay? I'll be back for you soon." He said quietly
You didn't respond though as you were still soundly asleep.  Five looked at you for a little longer, etching this version of you into his memory. This is what he was fighting for now, the version of you that was alive. The one that he was going to keep alive. Standing up and walking out of your room, he quietly shut the door behind him to let you rest, and to keep you from coming with him as he knew assassins were hot on his trail. He needed to stop the apocalypse, and the sooner the better, so he head out to follow the trail starting with the only clue he had.
You however slept through for the rest of the night, albeit not as peacefully as you typically did, but you slept nonetheless. When you woke, you laid in your bed for a bit. The world was still and the house was quiet. Thinking about the events from last night and you started to feel bad for abruptly leaving Five. The news he delivered was difficult but you still shouldn't have left him. If he was telling you about it, it was because he trusted you as his friend, and you ran away. You had to apologize. Getting up from your bed, you left your room and walked down the hall to his, but when you got there you found nothing. Odd. Maybe he was somewhere else in the house. Walking down the main steps, you could hear voices coming from the parlor but couldn't quite make out who it was yet. Deciding to check, you went through the entrance but instead of seeing Five, you saw Allison and Klaus there. You watch as the two of them stop their conversation and turn to look at you with shocked expressions.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt." You say sheepishly as you turn to walk away
"(Y/N), wait," Allison called out
Turning to look back at her, you watch as the corner of her lips upturn into a small smile as she adds,
"Come join us."
Carefully you walk over towards the couches in the parlor and sit on the one opposite Klaus. It was then that you noticed he was only in his underwear. It was an odd sight to see but you tried your best to ignore it. You noticed as Allison sat on the same couch as Klaus on the completely opposite side. The two of them stared at you silently once more and you could only imagine what was going through their heads. You leaned forward staring back at them trying as you waited for them to say something. Anything.
"Um...you look great!" Allison said breaking the silence
You nodded your head slowly acknowledging her statement as you awkward responded,
"Yup, time travel will do that to you."
The room faded back to silence as the three of you look around avoiding eye contact once more. It was like sitting in a room full of strangers, except you all knew each other. Well used to know each other.
Seeing the weird tension in the room, Ben gave his brother a disapproving look. This was their friend that went missing. The one they hadn't seen in over a decade and still no one had asked you how you were doing or how your life had been.  If you were able to see him the way his brother was he would've already started a conversation with you trying to catch up for all the lost years you both had. Standing up from his seat he walked to the back of the couch you were sitting on and stood directly behind you.
"Klaus, we haven't seen her for years. Ask about her life." Ben criticized, placing a hand on your shoulder
A chill ran down your spine as you felt some type of minor disturbance touch you. Turning your head quickly behind you, you grabbed the spot on your shoulder where you felt it.
Ben looked down at you, your hand unintentionally resting on top of his. His jaw dropped as this was the first time someone had ever interacted with him besides Klaus in years. Looking up at Klaus with pleasant surprise on his face, Klaus looks back in shock and confusion. Could you...see him?
"You okay?" Allison asked confused
Seeing nothing behind you at the moment you turned to look back at Allison. You could feel something still on your shoulder but there was nothing there. Maybe your powers were on the fritz due to stress? No, that didn't make sense. Stress had never caused you any power issues before, but then again you hadn't been under this much stress before either. Maybe it was just your imagination.
"Yeah, I just thought-" You started to explain before stating "Nevermind."
As you pulled your hand off your shoulder, so did Ben although his shock didn't leave him. If there was even a chance that you might know he was there he had to find out.
"Klaus, Klaus! You have to ask her what just happened! What if she can somehow see me too?" Ben explained excitedly
Klaus could not let anyone know that Ben was there though. No one would believe him. Well, you probably would but the rest of his family wouldn't even if he tried. And if by some miracle they did believe him they'd probably get mad he hadn't said anything for this long. Jumping away from the topic Klaus interjected,
"Hey anyway! How has life been post time-jump?"
You turned away from Allison to look at Klaus. Your face dropped slightly as all you could initially respond with was,
"Oh."
"Klaus..." Ben stated disappointed "when I said to ask about her life I didn't mean like that."
Klaus gives Ben a weak smile as he notices the look on your face. He felt bad for the way he had phrased the question but it was too late to shove the words back in his mouth.
"Well, currently a little overwhelming. Up until now though it's been-"
You paused. Looking off in the distance you remembered what these last years had been like. Of course, there were plenty of good things that you could recount but there were many negative things that had occurred as well. You didn't want to burden them with what those things were though. They were already going through enough, Klaus with his evident addictions and Allison with her very public custody battle, and then of course the death of their father and having to see each other for the first time in a while. Coming back into focus you put a smile on your face.
"-Pretty good." you continued in an upbeat tone "Y'know I have a place to live that I'm familiar with, a great support system, a solid group of friends, and plenty of activities to keep me busy."
Allison could tell there was something off about your response. You changed tones the same way Claire would when she didn't want to talk about what was upsetting her. Allison knew it was a little wrong to pry, but you both used to be open books to each other. Trying to figure out what was wrong, Allison pressed,
"All this house to yourself though? You must've been so lonely."
"I was fine." You replied firmly "I had Mom and Pogo and I had free reign of the house so for the most part I did whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted."
"Well, I'm glad you were able to make a home out of this empty building." Allison replied "Right Klaus?"
"Oh yeah, very...homey," Klaus added
Another silence fell upon the three of you except for Klaus who continuously heard Ben complaining about him not asking you about what had happened only a minute ago. Before Klaus could even decide if he wanted to investigate you spoke up asking,
"So um, have you guys seen Five? I woke up and I can't find him."
"No, I haven't seen him," Allison replies
"I saw him in my dream last night. We were in the Willy Wonka factory and he fell down the bad egg shoot" Klaus adds
"And what about this morning?" You ask
"Nope." He responds
"Ugh, he comes back, and yet I don't even know where he is." You complain "What am I supposed to do with a boy like that?"
"Love him, like you always have." Allison comments
"Oh shut up!" You exclaimed before stating "We're just friends."
"Oh really? Well, I've never met a pair of friends who look at each other so longingly as you two did in the kitchen yesterday. Have you?" Klaus remarks wiggling his eyebrows
You looked at Allison before looking back towards Klaus, a smirk coming to your face as you joked,
"Nope, but I've met a pair of siblings."
Hearing your response Klaus bursts out laughing as Allison smacks him on the arm. Although she put off the vibe that she was annoyed by the comment you could see a smile creeping up on her face as she comments,
"Oh, that's a low blow."
"Hmm...what did you always say to me? Oh right!" You mocked before stating "Denial, denial, denial."
"Well, I seem to recall you always replying, ironic, ironic, ironic." Allison retorted playfully
"Don't worry (Y/N), your man will turn up eventually, and then you can-," Klaus stated before wrapping his arms around himself pretending to make out with someone before finishing his statement "-all you want."
"We will not be doing that," You reply flatly
"So you're just going to keep kissing your pillow then? And pretending it's him?" Allison inquires, her smirk forming into a smile
"Hey, I told you that in confidence, we all practice somehow." You comment "And pillow kissing is not as bad as having a magazine poster of them in the back of your closet and kissing it because that's the closest wall to their room."
"Ouch, but touché," Allison replies
"Don't deal it if you can't take it." You remark
"Okay, well I'm going to go find Luther," Allison says getting up from the couch
"Have fuuuuuun" You say as both you and Klaus start to make kissy faces toward her
"You two are the worst," Allison replies rolling her eyes before leaving the room
You and Klaus laugh as you watch her walk away shaking her head at the two of you's antics. Turning your attention to him, you ask him,
"How about we go get breakfast and start your day off right with some orange juice?"
Although you couldn't hear it, Ben loudly exclaimed,
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID!"
Quickly looking behind him, Klaus shoots Ben a glare as you all walk out of the parlor together and down to the kitchen to start off your days.
Meanwhile, Five was on the hunt to find the owner of the mysterious glass eye he had found in the future. He had left early to go and locate the building where the eye was to be made, Meritech Prosthetics. This eye was the only clue he had and the name of the company on the back of it was the only place he could start. Entering the building Five took the elevator up to the main offices where the eye was made. Standing in the lobby he took a look around at the place. As he looked behind him back at the elevators he could hear a voice ask,
"Uh, can I help you?"
Turning around, Five looks at the man and sees him wearing a lab coat. He had to be a doctor or at least someone who knew whose eye this belonged to. Pulling the eye out of his pocket, he walks over to the man and holds it up for him to see.
"I need to know who this belongs to."
"Where did you get that?" The man in the lab coat asks
"What do you care?" Five asks annoyed
He could see the negative reaction on the man's face and new than in this body his typical demeanor was not going to gett him anywhere. Trying to change his tune Five puts a smile on his face and in an upbeat tone adds,
"I found it while I was walking in the park. It must've just popped out and I want to return it to the rightful owner."
"Oh, what a thoughtful young man." The secretary behind the desk coos "Yeah. Look up the name for me, will ya?" Five bluntly requests
"Well, patient records are strictly confidential but if you give me the eye I can get it back to its owner." The doctor states reaching out for the eye
Five harshly takes a step back, firmly grasping the eye in his hand. Not enough to break the glass but enough that there was no way this man could pull it from him. Agressively staring the man down he states,
"Yeah, you're not touching this eye."
"Now listen here young man-" The doctor attempts to scold but is cut off
Five was frustrated. Time was running out second by second and this asshole doctor was withholding the information that he needed to save the world. Grabbing the doctor by his lab coat Five pulls him in closer, his eyes directly staring him down as he explains,
"NO, you listen to me, asshole. I've come a long way for this, through some shit your pea brain couldn't even comprehend, so just give me the information I need and I'll be on my merry way. And if you call me young man one more time I will put your head through that wall."
The doctor was frightened by the sudden act of aggression and did not want to deal with whatever was going on her. Carefully, turning to look at the secretary behind the desk he meekly chokes out,
"Call security."
There was no way Five was going to get kicked out of the building. He needed a new strategy and unfortunately, he would probably need the help of someone else to get things done. Maybe Allison was still at the academy and he could get her to help rumor the asshole into giving out the information he needed. Letting go of the lab coat, Five turned towards the elevators and left on his own. He'd be back though, as soon as he had a new plan in place.
And with that, he left the building and started the trek back to the academy where you were currently enjoying breakfast with Klaus. Sitting across from each other, you two ate some french toast with scrambled eggs that Mom had made and of course enjoyed some fresh-squeezed orange juice. As you slowly ate your meal you closely watched as Klaus scarfed his down as if it was going to run away from him. You wondered if this was the first time in a while that he had been given a full meal to eat.
As you carefully watched over Klaus though Ben sat in the seat to the left of you. With his elbow on the table and his chin resting in his hand sat there just watching you. It was interesting looking at you now. The last he saw of you, you were a child just like he used to be, and yet here you were now, older than he was when he disappeared from this earth.  You looked nice and with the way you were laughing with Klaus and Allison back in the parlor it seemed like you were happy too. When you had left, sure he wanted you to come back, but more so he just wanted for you to be alive and happy. And now here you were, being both of those things and he couldn't help but smile.
Although you couldn't see it, Klaus noticed his brother just sitting there silently looking at you. Putting his fork full of eggs down he look in Ben's direction and stated,
"Stop staring. You're being weird."
Both Ben and you turned your attention towards Klaus, caught off guard by his comment. Thinking his comment was directed towards you, you looked down and your food and apologized,
"Oh sorry."
"Shit. No (Y/N). not you. It's uh-" Klaus started to explain before pausing
Seeing you look up at him confused, he looked between Ben and you trying to figure out what to say. Most people didn't want to listen to him when he started talking about something but then again you weren't most people. As he sat there trying to process, Ben exclaimed,
"Tell her I'm here!"
Looking from the spot where Ben was standing back to you Klaus attempts to speak saying,
"Well it's- it's uh-"
"A ghost?" You question
"Yeah." Klaus says impressed that you guessed right before shooting Ben a look and adding "An annoying one who doesn't know the first thing about personal boundaries."
"Annoying? At least I'm not being selfish and hiding my dead brother's existence." Ben retorts
"Can you just leave me alone, I am with a friend." Klaus complains
"She's my friend too!" Ben remarks
"She can't be your friend, you're dead." Klaus states flatly
"That's low." Ben replies
You saw as Klaus argued with what looked like the air next to you, but you knew that he was seeing a ghost there. It was surprising though, typically when Klaus saw a ghost he would panic or try to ignore it. At least to the last of your memory you never took him for the type to actually fight with them. And although you were only seeing one half of the conversation there was something familiar feeling about it. It gave you a sense of deja vu but you couldn't place why at the moment. Trying to ease the tension between the two you put your hands up as if to "separate" them.
"Hey, we don't need to argue over me...I think..." You stated before calmly adding "We can all be here together. As friends."
Ben and Klaus looked at each other silently for a moment. It was odd to think that they could both just exist with someone at the same time, all as friends. At that moment they realized they weren't just some drugged-up junkie and his ghost brother, neither of them needed to be better than the other. For you, they just needed to be Klaus and Ben. And so the two of them nodded at each other in agreement, before quietly turning their attention back to you.
"So how was your date last night?" Klaus asks curiously
"It was not a date Klaus," You respond
"Fine, how was your not a date-date." Klaus retorts
"It was fine." You responded rolling your eyes before adding softly "He opened the door to the car for me and held my hand under the countertop for a moment at the donut shop we used to go to."
"Wow, who knew he still had a heart under that grouchy exterior." Klaus commented, "Then what happened?"
You opened your mouth about to continue your recap of the night but before you were about to speak you thought for a moment about what actually happened after that. Recalling the bloodbath you had found yourself in and the unfortunate way you ended the night you decided to keep that information to yourself.
"I had a donut, he had some coffee and we came back home and went to sleep," You responded before quickly adding "Separately."
"Ah, separately. Man, when I was your age I was sleeping all over the place." Klaus muses
"You still are." Ben chimes in
"Your judgment of my lifestyle is not appreciated." Klaus said to Ben before turning back to you and adding "Anyway, good on you for sticking with one person. I don't think I could ever see myself falling in love with a single individual."
There is a silence that falls over the breakfast table for a moment, but then Klaus enthusiastically asks,
"Hey, for your next not a date-date you should let me, your very good friend Klaus, plan it. All the dates I've been on have been such a good time."
"Do not let him plan a date for you. His idea of a good time is hallucinogenics and blowjobs." Ben warns
"She can't hear you, remember?" Klaus reminds
He was right, you couldn't hear him, but you could feel him. At least he hoped so after what had occurred in the parlor earlier. Using his pointer finger he traced the word NO on the back of your hand over and over again hoping that the message would somehow get through to you.
Your head turned to look down towards your left hand as you felt that chill feeling from the parlor again. This time though, instead of it being on your shoulder it was on your hand. Focusing on the feeling, you saw a flash of what looked like blue fuzzy molecules move across the back of your hand. You watched it do the same rhythmic movement over and over again before you realized that the word no was being written on your skin. Your eyes went wide as you realized that whatever ghost was sitting next to you was trying to get you that message and there was a part of you that wondered what made the ghost care enough about you to intervene. Regaining your composure you looked back towards Klaus.
"Um. No. That's alright." You politely responded before asking "So anyway where did you go last night? we came back and no one was around."
"Well I was supposed to get waffles with Diego but then he kicked me out of his car to go drive to some crime scene," Klaus complained
Your face shifted into a look of concern as you registered his words.
"Crime scene? Where?" You pressed
"I don't know wherever the most recent shooting happened. I was too busy thinking about my rumbly tummy at the time to pay attention." Klaus responded flatly
"Shit." You groaned
You knew your brother and were very aware of his "freelance investigator" habit. It was a habit that had gotten him in trouble with Eudora on multiple occasions. And if he had rushed off to an active crime scene you knew there was only one place that he could be now. Quickly getting up from the table you started rushing towards the kitchen exit so you could get ready and get to Diego.
"Where are you going?" Klaus called out
"To bail out my brother." You answered adding "Do not steal anything to pawn. If more ghosts show up and start bothering you there are two bottles of Absinthe hidden in the attic. You are welcome to one of them."
"Really? Thanks!" Klaus exclaimed before realizing what you said and asking "Hey wait! Why do you have Absinthe?"
"They're birthday gifts for a friend so please do not drink both." You explained running out of the kitchen
"I'll try not to!"
As the two of them watched you run away, Ben moved to stand next to Klaus.
"A friend who wants Absinthe for their birthday?" Ben remarks "She is not good at choosing friends."
"But she's friends with us," Klaus responds
"Exactly," Ben says flatly
You did not hear the last of their conversation though as you had already started running your way upstairs to switch out of pajamas and into day clothes. Quickly changing you run back downstairs and outside. There was only one shooting last night to your knowledge and you knew exactly where it would be. Sprinting down the block you headed over to Griddy's only to be met with the unsurprising sight of Diego's car being parked outside the building that was now surrounded by police tape. Letting out an exasperated sigh you slowly walked over to the car in the parking lot. As you made it to the driver's side door you checked around for any witnesses. Seeing the coast was clear you phased through the door and into the car before opening the glovebox and pulling out the copy of the car key that you had made. This wasn't your first rodeo getting Diego his car, and it sure wouldn't be the last.
Driving off from Griddy's, you quickly made it to the station, parking your car in one of the guest spots before heading inside. Standing at the front desk you considered just sneaking to the back offices as you had done a few times before but before you could decide to do so you heard a voice behind you ask,
"(Y/N) what are you doing here?"
Turning on your heel you see Eudora's detective partner Chuck standing behind you with what looks like evidence bags in his hand.
"Where's my brother?" You questioned
"How do you know he's here?" Chuck inquired back
"Well, I went to get a donut and I happened to see his car parked outside the building that was surrounded by police tape." You answered, "I put two and two together and now I'm here."
"Fair enough. Have you ever thought about becoming a detective?" He asked
"Occasionally, since Eudora and Diego both seem to be interested in doing so but Diego keeps telling people I'm going to win a Nobel Prize one day so I gotta make sure he doesn't look like an idiot." You state before returning to the original reason you were there "So are you gonna let me back there?"
"You know that's against protocol." Chuck reminds
"Listen, you've got two options, you let me back there or I sneak back there." You explain "And if we're being honest we both know that everyone has broken protocol for me before."
You watched as your words registered in his mind and the wheels started to turn. He knew that you were right and if he didn't bring you back then someone would. You had the whole department wrapped around your finger for years now with everyone from the officers to the district attorney treating you like an extra daughter or little sister. Letting out a resigned sigh, Chuck replied,
"Come along."
Walking behind the front desk Chuck takes you into the office area and from across the room, you can see a familiar figure hunched over their desk looking at paperwork. Approaching the figure, Chuck calls out,
"Patch, you have a visitor."
You watch as Eudora looks up from her work and over towards you and Chuck as you approach her desk. A smile comes to her face upon seeing you as she asks,
"(Y/N), hey. What are you doing here?"
"I know Diego's here. I brought his car for him." You respond
"Smart girl." She responds with an amused shake of her head "I just asked Rodriguez to go get him from his holding cell. He'll be here shortly."
You give her a quick nod, but before you could say anything else Chuck chimes in,
"Hey, so ballistics came back. Bullets from all our shooters match." "Round robin." Eudora states
"Yeah, to quote a very smart woman, these idiots all shot each other." He replies "We also got IDs on all the deceased gentlemen. Not so gentle, as it turns out."
"Criminal records?"
"All of them. Battery, assault, a few dishonorable discharges. They're all hotheads. One and all."
"Well, that settles that."
"Well, there is just one thing. Remember the victim that got stabbed in the carotid artery?" "Yeah, one of the guys stabbed the other. What's the problem?" "Fingerprints on the knife don't match our guys. But it gets weirder. It did match an unsolved cold case that came back, circa, get this...1938."
You stood there quietly as you watched the two of them go back and forth discussing the crime that had occurred at Griddy's last night. It was somewhat of a relief that they had not come across your fingerprints at the scene and that they also believed these men to just be incompetent. But at the same time, you knew the truth of what happened and how you and Five were the actual reason they all were dead and it concerned you greatly that there was a chance they could still find out. You watched nervously for a moment more but then you saw another familiar face start to approach. Diego. He was handcuffed but he had a cocky smile on his face as if this was just some funny little game.
"Tell them to run it again. We'll pick this up later." Eudora stated, her attention now on Diego
Still cuffed, Diego sat in the seat next to Eudora's desk, looking at her amused before being uncuffed by Rodriguez. Looking around Diego finally noticed you were there and said,
"Hey kiddo! Why are you here?"
"To drop off your car." You replied flatly
"That's my girl." Diego praised "Just give us a moment and then we can head out"
Turning his attention from you back to Eudora, Diego leans in close as he quietly asks, "So...did you talk to the tow truck guy?"
"Shut up and listen carefully. The next time you interfere in one of my investigations, you so much as breathe on one of my witnesses, or touch a piece of evidence, I'll charge you with obstruction of justice. You will do jail time. That clear?" Eudora explains firmly "Damn. You need to relax, Eudora. All this bureaucracy is get-" Diego starts to say
"Don't-" Eudora cuts off "Look, I know you. You like playing by the rules, but you live for putting the scumbags away." Diego comments before suggesting "So why don't you put that badge down for one night and you come out on the streets with me? Without all this bullshit."
"Can I come?" You interject
Both Eudora and Diego pause their conversation as they both turn to face you with stern looks on their faces.
"No." They simultaneously state
"What! Why?" You complain
"You have college ahead of you. No way you are ruining your chances of that."  Diego responds
"Speaking of college, it is a Monday. Why aren't you in school right now?" Eudora questions
"Is it a crime to come see two of my favorite people?" You asked
"When you're putting your future at risk it is," Eudora replied
"She's right," Diego added
Moving some papers aside from Eudora's desk, you took a seat on top of it in between where Diego and Eudora sat. You looked at them silently for a moment before you explained,
"Well, if you have to know the school gave me three grieving days off."
"Grieving days? What do you have to grieve?" Diego asked
"Nothing." You answered "But the school saw the news and cross-checked with my home address and just y'know assumed I would be in no condition to go back in for a few days. So I'm here and 100% legally I might add."
"You better not be lying to us," Eudora warned
"I'm not," You replied putting your hands up innocently "I have done nothing wrong in my life. Ever."
"Yes. We know this and we love you." Diego said happily
"Diego-" Eudora chastized
Diego looked over at her with shock on his face. Did she not love you? Did she not believe that you have done nothing wrong in your life? Because for both cases there was no reason to believe otherwise. Trying to get an answer, Diego asked confused.
"What? Do you not love our girl?"
"Of course I do." Eudora explained, "But you're too lenient with her."
"Why be strict when there's nothing to be strict about?" Diego retorted
Eudora hated to do this to you, but she also needed to prove that Diego was being too lenient. You were a very good kid, but Diego saw you as his perfect little princess who could do no wrong which was just untrue. You were human and were flawed. Granted what she was going to say probably wasn't a huge deal and there had to be an explanation for it but still, she needed to at least try to get Diego to shake his point of view. Closing the file on her desk, she turned her chair so she was fully facing him. Staring him down she firmly stated,
"Her teacher called on Friday, she's losing participation points in her advanced chemistry class,"
"You're what?" Diego asked shocked, looking towards you for an explanation
"It's not my fault! He never picks on me for questions." You exclaimed before ranting "I think he's a sadist and gets off on humiliating his students and he knows he can't do that to me because I always get them right."
Diego's face turned from shock to anger. He couldn't believe that your teacher would take away points when it was him who was not calling on you. With a serious look settling on his face, Diego lowered his voice as he stated,
"I'm going to go down to your school and I'm going to have a talk with him."
Eudora realized that this was a bad example and unfortunately she probably just reinforced his belief rather than challenging it. With a shake of her head, she placed a hand on his shoulder as she calmly added,
"WE'LL talk to him."
"Yes, we will." Diego replied looking at Eudora "Just like we'll go out on the streets together."
"Yes." You chime in enthusiastically
The two of them both slowly turned their heads to look at you once more before simultaneously emphasizing,
"No."
"Listen, Diego, You're right, that all sounds super fun. But I think you missed some things when you got yourself thrown out of the police academy, so let me explain." Eudora remarks "This bullshit is what gets convictions in a court of law. What you do out there is a fantasy. I would love to play cops and robbers, wear a mask, and feel important, but guess what? Recess is over. It's grown-up time."
"I am a grown-up." Diego remarked annoyed "No, You're still trying to prove that, when you were kids, running around in those stupid uniforms, that it wasn't for nothing."
You winced slightly at her comment. You knew it wasn't meant to be cruel, just factual, but with everything that had happened yesterday hearing about the original umbrella academy felt slightly painful. You had hoped that no one had noticed your reaction, but of course, Diego had.
"Can you not mention the old academy in front of her," Diego says harshly
Looking around the room to see if anyone was paying attention he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper and his tone becoming slightly saddened as he adds,
"We had a rough time at the funeral yesterday."
"Oh...oh (Y/N), I'm so sorry," Eudora apologizes before softly asking "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I'm fine." You reply bluntly
You weren't. There were a lot of things that you were going to have to work through with everyone, well almost everyone, from the academy being back in your life. But this was not the time nor the place to deal with things. You saw how both of them looked at you, their faces filled with concern for your well-being. They both knew all that you had been through, and they had been there for most of your struggles during your readjustment period.
"Are you sure? You seemed pretty upset yesterday. And remember separate or together, Eudora and I are always here to support you and-."  Diego started to explain kindly
"Please don't give me the break-up talk again, it happened years ago. I swear I'm fine." You cut Diego off
You could see that their expressions were unchanged. You understood that they couldn't help but care but at the same time you wished they would take your "I'm fine" at face value.
"Listen, there were some mishaps yesterday but it wasn't all bad..." You added
You trailed off from your explanation as your mind wandered back to the memory of Five holding your hand. A blush rose to your face and you could feel yourself start to smile.
"What's that face for?" Eudora asked curiously, raising an eyebrow
"Huh? What face?" You asked panicked
You tried your best to hide what you had just felt but you the deepening blush on your face was giving you away. You could see as the wheels started to turn in Eudora's head, a smirk coming to her face as she said,
"It's a boy isn't it?"
"I perhaps may have gone out to eat with a boy." You quietly admitted
You saw as Eudora smiled. She had never really heard you talk about taking interest in anyone before. It was new and exciting to know that you had found someone who seemed to make you happy and if she wasn't in the middle of the police station she most likely would've gotten teary-eyed as she realized that you were actually grown and not the sweet little 13-year-old Diego had introduced to her years ago.
Diego on the other hand was more than annoyed at this development. You went out to eat with him? That's practically a date. You couldn't date and especially not the time-traveling asshole that was his brother. Crossing his arms, his face showed his annoyance, as he stated,
"I don't like him."
"Have you even met him before? Or are you just upset because he's a boy?" Eudora questioned unamused
"Oh, I've met him before. He decided to show up at the academy yesterday looking like a typical teenager and acting like a prick." Diego complains before adding "(Y/N), if he hurts you, I will kill him."
"If you kill him, I am obligated to put you in jail." Eudora reminds
"I would happily do jail time for his murder." Diego states firmly leaning in toward Eudora
"Diego she is 18, she can decide who she wants to date," Eudora retorts leaning back
"Oh we're not-" You attempted to interject
"Absolutely not. She shouldn't even be looking at boys until she's 30." Diego asserts
"You're being ridiculous." Eudora criticizes
"You guys realize I'm right here, right?" You remind
"Of course we do!" Eudora says happily before narrowing her eyes at Diego and quietly saying "We will finish this discussion later."
"Fine," Diego relents
"Now, If you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my very important job so why don't you take our girl back home so she doesn't spend the rest of her grieving day in a police station," Eudora suggests
Diego stands up from his seat as you hop off from where you were sitting on the desk.
"C'mon princess let's get going." Diego says "Say goodbye to Patch."
"Bye Eudora!" You exclaimed wrapping your arms around her
"Bye (Y/N)," Eudora replied holding you back before whispering "You'll have to tell me more about this boy later."
Pulling back from the hug, you went and stood by your brother's side. You watched as Diego and Eudora looked at each other for a moment not saying anything. Ever since they broke up this was a common occurrence and you had seen these almost longing looks every time. It hurt to see it because deep down you knew they still loved each other but their paths just didn't align with each other anymore besides their want to help others and their mutual care for you. Giving her a small smile Diego says quietly,
"Bye Patch,"
"Goodbye, Diego," Eudora responds
And with that Eudora turns back to her work and the two of you walk away and out of the police station. Getting in his car, the both of you drive away from the station and back towards the academy.
Making it back to the academy, Five looks around for anyone who might be useful enough to help him out. Perhaps Allison or maybe even Luther could assist him in his plan to get information on the prosthetic eye he carried but as he walked around the place it was dead silent and seemed like there was no one to be found. Walking down the hall of bedrooms he could hear the sound of music being played. Following the sound, he assumed it was coming from your room. Looking into it though he saw it was empty. Your bed was unmade meaning you were up but you weren't there. Realizing the music was coming from the bedroom across the hall Five opened the door to see Klaus pacing about talking to the air,
"They have crushes on each other, isn't that crazy?" Klaus says
"Not really Klaus. All of us saw it a long time ago. It's actually really concerning that you didn't." Ben replies to him matter-of-factly
"Okay, you know I meant they still have crushes on each other," Klaus replies "There's no need to be so rude."
"I'm not?" Ben says
Five let out a reluctant sigh. This was not the person he wanted to be helping him. Honestly, Klaus was probably his last choice but it seemed like he was the only option available. Five took a deep breath before stepping into the room and asking,
"Klaus. You wanna make twenty bucks?"
"Don't do it," Ben says to Klaus
Klaus shoots him a look and quickly snaps around saying to Five,
"Absolutely."
"Good. Put on your best clothes and meet me in my room."
As Klaus rushed to find something nice he could wear Five left to go to his room. Standing in the doorway he took a much longer look around at the place. These four walls were haunted with memories of a better time. It was never perfect, he knew that much, but looking back it could've been a lot better than what he had gone through. If only he had stuck around, who knows where he would've been today. Who he would've been and what he could've done instead of what he had done. As he stepped further into the room he could hear the sound of loud footsteps rushing behind him. Turning on his heel, he saw Klaus excitedly standing there.
"I'm all ready to go. What do you need me to do!" Klaus asked
"Listen carefully. I need you to come with me to this prosthetics place and pretend to be my dad. Easy enough?"
"Yeah, I can do that, I'm great at pretending to be someone I'm not. I did it around dad for years." Klaus replies
As he prepares to explain more to Klaus, Five hears the sound of the front door slamming and the echoing of footsteps coming up the stairs. He didn't know who it was but in any case, he didn't need to get more people involved than necessary.  Pushing Klaus towards his closet he opens the door demanding,
"Get back, in the closet."
"But I like who I am," Klaus replied confused
"Shut up and stay quiet." Five says shoving him in and closing the door
"Oh, this closet," Klaus replies before the door is fully shut on him
Walking over to his window Five tried to look natural for whoever was coming. But as he looked out his window, he saw the window of your old room across the street. The curtains were open but the room was completely dark. As he looked at it, he remembered all the times when he used to pop over to your room to watch TV way too loud so your parents couldn't hear him and you talking. He missed the times when life was just normal for you two, it was a life he wanted to return to, but that time was gone and the reality was if he didn't stop this apocalypse there would be no returning to a life with you. As he continues to look out the window he hears a voice from behind him say,
"Oh my god, there you are! I was wondering where you went."
Recognizing the voice as yours he immediately turns on his heel to face you only to have you wrap your arms tightly around him, your face burying into his chest. Initially shocked by the reaction he wrapped his arms back around you.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry." You profusely apologized
"What? Why?" He asked confused
"I wasn't being very supportive. It was just so much with you coming back, and then the stuff at the donut shop and then what you said and-" You rambled refusing to look up "I was worried you left again because you were upset at my reaction yesterday."
Five's heart dropped for a moment realizing you thought he had run out on you again because he was upset. Trying to get your attention he calmly says,
"Hey, look at me."
Slowly you tilted your face up towards him worried about what you would see but when you finally looked at him all that was there was a soft smile on his face and a genuine look in his eyes.
"You're my best friend (Y/N). I could never  be mad at you." He gently explains "And it's not your fault, it was a lot to put on you in such a short time frame, especially after all that happened yesterday"
"Yeah but I could've at least tried to understand. Sure it was a lot but I've been through a lot of other crazy shit because of this family. Instead of dealing with it...I just ran away. You don't leave when the people you care about need you, so I'm sorry." You state
"It's okay, we're both here now." He replies
A smile comes to your face as the two of you pause for a moment, still holding quietly holding each other. As you stand there you can't help but feel the atmosphere of the room change. You couldn't place what it was but you knew it had to deal with the boy standing before you. Not knowing what to do, you broke the silence asking,
"So do you want to watch some movies or something since you're back? I know there's everything still going on that you told me about but it might be good to take a small break to help clear your mind. There's been a lot of good movies that have come out since you've been gone."
"I'd love to," Five replied before remembering that he couldn't "But I can't right now. I need to go out again."
The smile that had come to your face dropped into a disappointed frown. Where in the world did he need to go?
Five saw as the smile you had quickly turned into a frown. He did feel bad for leaving again, especially since the last time you believed it to be your fault but he had a world to save. A world to save for you specifically. Trying to make you feel better he added,
"How about when I get back we do something together."
"Like what?" You question
"We'll do whatever is going to keep a smile on your face."
"Okay," You said happily "I'll come up with something really fun."
"I know you will." He replied
Taking one more look at him, you separate yourself from the embrace and slowly leave his room glancing back at him until you were too far out to see him anymore. You didn't like how he had to leave but at least you knew this time that he would come back home to you.
Five watched as you walked out of the room and down the hall. He was disappointed that he couldn't just spend time with you. He knew that you wanted to be around him, and all he wanted to do was to spend as much time as possible close to you, but he knew he couldn't because had to stop the apocalypse first. As your footsteps trailed off Klaus burst out of Five's closet commenting,
"How touching. All of that stuff about friendship, and caring, making her happy. You should just tell her you love her already."
Five's head snapped towards Klaus as he worried about all the commotion he was making.
"Will you keep quiet? She'll hear you." Five snapped at him
"Oh, c'mon Fivey. You've been in love with her since we were kids and distance makes the heart grow fonder. I mean you might as well just spit it out already." Klaus whimsically replies "Either that or kiss her. This is the second day in a row your faces have been only a few inches apart, just seal the deal already."
"I can't." Five replied, looking off to the side
"Not with that attitude you can't," Klaus responds
Five was not going to tolerate whatever point Klaus was trying to get at. There was too much at stake. Grabbing the collar of Klaus' shirt, Five pulled him close, firmly stating,
"Klaus, I don't know if you'll be able to get this through that drugged-up head but I cannot do that. Right now there is too much risk associated with me saying those three words to her. I don't want anything to happen that could ruin everything."
Pushing his brother away, Five then adds,
"Anyway, I thought I told you to put on something professional."
"This is the nicest outfit I have," Klaus replies
"Fine, we'll go raid the old man's closet." Five comments annoyed
As Five and Klaus made their way to their father's room to find better clothing for Klaus, you started making your way back downstairs. As you did so though, you could hear the sounds of Allison and Vanya talking. Not wanting to interrupt you paused on the stairs out of view as they continued to talk.
"I've never met your ex-husband, but...he sounds like an asshole." Vanya comments "That's one word for it." Allison scoffs "You know what? You're probably better off here."  "No, I'm probably better off with my daughter," Allison replies offended "Of course, um...I'm sorry. I didn't..." Vanya tries to apologize "You know, if I wanted advice, Vanya, no offense, it wouldn't be from you." Allison remarks "What is that supposed to mean?" Vanya questions
"You don't have a child. You've never even been in a relationship."
"That's not true."  "So you know what it's like to love someone like this? Like when you're apart from her, you can't breathe? Like you would- you would die, and I... I mean actually...die...to know that she's okay and happy." Allison rants "You separate yourself from everyone and everything. You always have." "Because Dad made me." Vanya replies "Did Dad make you write that book about us, too?" Allison spits "You're an adult now, Vanya. You don't get to blame your problems on anyone but yourself."
There was a silence and then the sound of heels clicking against the wooden floor that moved farther and farther away. Carefully, you made your way down the stairs trying to act as casual as you could. Reaching the bottom step you saw as Vanya turned her attention toward you.
"I'm guessing you heard all that?" Vanya comments
"Most of it..." You reply awkwardly "If it means anything to you I don't think you separate yourself from everyone and everything."
Vanya smiled at your comment. If she didn't have her siblings, at least she knew she had you to support her. She always had you to support her.
"It does mean something. Thank you."
"By the way, I read your book." You mention "I actually did a report on it for school."
"Really?" Vanya asked surprised
"Yeah. Had to keep it a secret from Diego though. He sure wasn't happy about it. I can see where your siblings might be coming from but I liked it. Thought it was really well written." You explain "I have a friend who really loves it though. Reads it all the time. Do you think you could sign a copy so I can give it to her?"
"Oh...uh...yeah sure." Vanya replies taken aback "I- I think I have some leftover copies at my apartment."
You smiled wide at Vanya who returned with a small smile of her own. The corners of her mouth raised just enough to indicate happiness. Oh, Vanya. Shy, reserved, soft-spoken Vanya. You knew it came with the way she had been treated by her family. You would be lying if you said that her siblings didn't outcast her due to her lack of powers. You could only hope that being back together you could bring her more out of her shell and show her she was special too. Powers or not.
"Oh, so I was going to go play the piano for a bit and if you have your violin maybe we could duet. We uh- never really got to finish learning the phantom of the opera together as we had planned." You suggested to her "I mean. I know it now but we could play it together like we wanted."
"That sounds really nice and I'd love to but I left my violin at my apartment. I give lessons to people." Vanya explains apologetically "I actually have to head out because I have a lesson later. I'm super sorry (Y/N)."
You tried your best not to get too down about not being able to spend time with Vanya but it was difficult since it seemed like everyone you hadn't seen in forever was too busy to be around you right now. Trying to stay upbeat you reply,
"Oh. Well, come around any time I guess. I'll be here."
And with that, you walked away from Vanya to, unfortunately, go be alone, but as you walked away you couldn't help be feel like there was someone watching you.
After Five had gotten Klaus into a more appropriate outfit for the plan he had going the two of them left the house and headed to Meritech to talk to the doctor from earlier. Heading up to the offices once more, the elevator door opens, luckily enough revealing the doctor from earlier standing in the lobby.
"That's him." Five whispers to Klaus
"Excuse me!" Klaus shouts
Turning to look at who shouted the doctor sees the boy from earlier and an older man in a suit.
"Oh no." The doctor mumbles under his breath before replying "Can I help you?"
"Yes, my son said that you refused to talk to him earlier and I'd like to speak to you on the matter. Swiftly and privately." Klaus explains in a stern tone
Letting out an exasperated sigh the doctor replies,
"Follow me to my office."
The doctor leads the way as Five and Klaus follow him to an office completely of glass. Sitting down across the desk from the doctor they watch for a moment as he rearranges some papers around his desk. Looking up from the desk, the doctor turns his attention to the two of them and asks,
"What do you feel the need to discuss sir."
"My son wants to return the eye he found but he's saying you won't tell him who he has to give it to." Klaus complains
"Like I said to your son earlier, any information about the prosthetics we build is strictly confidential. Without the client's consent, I simply can't help you." The doctor states firmly
Standing up from his seat, Five places his hands on the doctor's desk leaning over it slightly as he replies through gritted teeth, "Well, we can't get consent if you don't give us a name." "Well, that's not my problem. Sorry. Now, there's really nothing more I can do, so..." The doctor dismisses trying to get the two to leave
Klaus was not having it though. He came here to make twenty bucks and he sure as hell was going to make sure he got them. Training his eyes on the doctor he slowly asks, "And what about my consent?" "Excuse me?" The doctor replies
"Who gave you permission...to lay your hands...on my son?" Klaus says between fake sobs "What?" Five and the doctor both ask confused
"You heard me." Klaus reemphasizes  "I didn't touch your son." The doctor states defensively
Klaus stands up from his own chair, now looking down at the doctor with an upset look on his face. He was only half sure where he was going with this but he knew he had to make it good.
"Oh, really?" Klaus questioned "Well, then how did he get that swollen lip, then?" "He doesn't have a swollen-" The doctor beings to say
It was too late though, Klaus had already pulled his hand back into a fist before quickly bringing it down on his brother. Recoiling from the punch five grunts in pain, placing two fingers over his now bloody lip. What the hell was Klaus thinking? Looking back towards him confused he watched as Klaus inhaled sharply before leaning over the doctor's desk and stating, "I want it. Name, please. Now." "You're crazy." The doctor exclaimed
"You got no idea." Klaus chuckles before picking up a snowglobe from the doctor's desk and commenting "Peace on Earth. That's so sweet." Klaus quickly slams the snowglobe against his forehead causing it to smash into a bunch of tiny pieces, cutting him in the process. Blood and snowglobe liquid ran down his face as he groaned in pain.
"God, that hurt!" He yells
The doctor looks on shocked at the situation. He was concerned and had no clue what was happening at the moment. Trying to get these crazy people out of his office he immediately picks up his phone stating, "I'm calling secur-"
He wasn't able to finish though as Klaus grabs at the phone in his hand trying to take it away.
"What are you doing?" The doctor loudly asks
There was no need for explanation though as Klaus successfully managed to take the phone away from him. Pressing it to his ear he hears the sounds of someone on the other side asking what is going on.
"There's been an assault in Mr. Big's office, and we need security, now." Klaus cries before shouting  "Schnell!"
Throwing the phone down on the desk, Klaus leans in close. His eyes trained on the doctor as he starts to explain in a low voice, "Now, here's what's gonna happen, Grant." "It's Lance." He interjects scared "In about 60 seconds, two security guards are gonna burst through that door, and they're gonna see a whole lot of blood, and they're gonna wonder, what the hell happened?" Klaus states before pretending to sob dramatically "And we're gonna tell them that you...beat the shit out of us."
Instead of saying anything in response Lance just looks back, his eyes darting between Klaus and Five as Klaus stands up straight once more. And although the punch was unexpected and unwanted Five started to smirk at the bit Klaus was putting on. Maybe it was a good idea to bring him along after all.
"You're gonna do great in prison, Grant. Trust me, I've been there." Klaus states with a malicious smile on his face "Little piece of chicken like you. Oh, my God, you're gonna get passed around like a...you're just...you're gonna do great. That's all I'm saying." "Jesus, you are a real sick bastard." Lance remarks  "Thank you." Klaus replies before spitting out some glass from his mouth
Hurriedly, Lance takes the two of them from his office over to the records room. Quickly he searches through the files trying to get the patient information before the two before him could do anything else. As he find the folder that would hold the information they were looking for, he opens it up and scans for the serial number only to find it didn't exist.
"Oh, that's strange." He says aloud
"What?" Five asks "Uh, the eye. It hasn't been purchased by a client yet." Lance answers "What? What do you mean?" Five demands frustrated "Well, uh, our logs say that the eye with that serial number..." Lance continues confused"This can't be right. It hasn't even been manufactured yet. Where did you get that eye?"
Five didn't have time for this though. Upset that the only lead of who was going to cause the apocalypse was out the window, he walked away from Lance and back towards the main lobby to leave the building. With Klaus in tow, Five marched angrily outside and stated visibly upset,
"Well, this is not good."
"I was pretty good, though, right?" Klaus says
"Klaus, it doesn't matter." Five retorts annoyed
"What's the big deal with this eye, anyway?" Klaus asks
"There is someone out there who's going to lose an eye in the next seven days. They're gonna bring about the end of life on this Earth as we know it. " Five states angrily
"Yeah, so...can I get that 20 bucks, like, now, or what?"
"Your 20 bucks?" Five questions back shocked
"Yeah, my 20 bucks."
"The apocalypse is coming, and all you can think about is getting high?" Five asks enraged
"Well, I'm also quite hungry. Tummy's a-rumblin'." Klaus replies with a smile
"You're useless!" Five exclaims walking away from him
Five sits down on the steps of Meritech trying to think of what to do now. Klaus takes a seat next to him.
"Oh, come on. You need to lighten up, old man. Hey, you know, I've just now realized why you're so uptight. You must be horny as hell! All those years by yourself. It's gotta screw with your head, being alone." Klaus comments before adding "Even more reason for you to tell Y/N how you feel. I mean the overwhelming tension between you two is just so palpable. You might as well say something to her and uh get on with it."
"Listen I told you I can't and...I wasn't alone." Five replies quietly
"Oh?" Klaus says intrigued "Do tell."
"Her name was Dolores. We were together for over 30 years...Well, the mannequin's name was Dolores, but what I saw there was (Y/N)." Five explains
"But (Y/N) wasn't there..." Klaus says confused
"She wasn't, the mannequin was there physically but what I visualized and saw was (Y/N) and so for those years that I was stuck I talked to and grew old with an imaginary version of (Y/N). I know it sounds crazy but she kept me going." Five continues
"Oh shit. If what you saw was (Y/N) there, did you like-" Klaus says making a hand jerking gesture but was cut off by Five saying
"I'm leaving."
With that, Five spacial jumped from next to Klaus and into a taxi heading to the one "person" he needed most. Five took the taxi to the store where he knew she would be,  Gimbel Brothers Department Store. By the time he had arrived the store was closed and the lights were off. Spacial jumping through the doors he made his way to the women's section. Picking up a flashlight as he passed a display he turned it on and carefully walked through the store shining the light and all the different displays. When he turned a corner, the flashlight shined on who he was looking for. Dolores. Slowly he walked over to the mannequin standing in the center of a display. When he stops in front of it he says quietly,
"Dolores. It's good to see you. I've missed you...obviously. Well, I...It's been a rough couple of days."
Five was about to continue when from behind the display Dolores was on he saw two masked figures with guns.
"No!" He yelled
The masked figures started firing off rounds and the top part of Dolores fell off her leg. Five hid behind a rack of clothes where the figures couldn't see him.
"Oh, shit! It's them." He said to himself
Quickly he ran and grabbed Dolores carrying her with him for a bit before saying,
"I'll be right back for you."
As the masked figures continued to shoot at him he continued to run around the store hiding from them. As he passed a camping section he grabbed a duffle bag and made his way back to Dolores. He started putting her in the bag when the agents attacking him found him. He scooped Dolores up in his arms before running off again. He tried spacial jumping a couple of times but it was no use as he had Dolores with him. His only hope was to get to the doors of the store. Making his way over there he got targeted by the two agents but the sound of a police car caught their attention and he escaped. He hid behind the register with Dolores as the agents left and the police arrived. When things died down he snuck out and made his way back home. When Five got back home he brought the bag with Dolores to his room. Unzipping the bag he took Dolores out and placed her on his desk chair. He has Dolores face his bed and as he goes to his bedroom door to shut it he says,
"I'm glad we got home safely."
When he turns around he sees the imaginary version of you sitting in his desk chair. You have your feet kicked up on his desk.
"Five, why did you come get me?" Imaginary you asks
"So I could have someone to talk to." He replies
"Five, the real version of me is somewhere in this house waiting to spend time with you. This is ridiculous." imaginary you comments
"But-" Five starts
"No buts. I am not your best friend, I am an imaginary version of them that you used as a coping mechanism to keep you from fully going insane due to loneliness. Your best friend is (Y/N), the real (Y/N), the one you can talk to, and hold and oh I don't know kiss if you actually stopped being a bitch about it and told her you loved her."
"Wow! You too now on the ''tell (Y/N) you love her'' train!"
"Five, I'm in your head. I only say what you want me to. Anything I say to you is just your true thoughts."
"Stop. I don't want to hear it anymore. I can't tell her I love her. With the Commission hot on my ass it puts her at too much risk. I just want to keep her safe while I stop the apocalypse."
"And what if you can't stop the apocalypse in seven days? Do you really want all this time to be spent away from her? You've already spent 45 YEARS away from her. If you truly love her then instead of telling me, go show her."
"You're right..."
Five takes a look back at the imaginary you. He sees you waving your hand shooing him out of the room and on to spending time with the real you. Five walks out of his bedroom and closes his door heading downstairs to look around for you. After some time of spacial jumping from place to place, he finds you outside in the courtyard. You were sitting on a picnic blanket listening to the radio and looking up at the stars. Slowly he approaches and asks,
"May I join you?"
You look up at him and say,
"Absolutely. I was worried that you were standing me up."
"No, I wouldn't do that. I was just...busy." Five replies sitting down on the blanket next to you
"Oh yeah, I heard about your day." You state with a bit of sarcasm in your voice
"What?"
"Well, when Klaus came back home he asked for twenty bucks, and when I asked why he said that you owed him $20 dollars for pretending to be your dad and helping to forcibly get patient information out of a doctor because some special eye is the key to the end of the world." You explain
"Damn it, Klaus." Five remarks
"What happened here?" You asked softly, using your hand to tilt his face towards you
Taking a better look you saw that his bottom lip was cut and swollen. Gently, you ran your thumb across it as you looked at the injury. What you didn't notice though was the way Five was looking at your lips. They looked soft and he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to kiss them. He had wonder so for a very long time, dreaming about what it would be like. And with Klaus and imaginary you telling him he should just do so it made him want to find out more. Slowly he leaned in a bit, but there was something within him holding him back. Looking back up towards you, his face moves far enough away that you thumb was no longer touching his lip.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." He answered
You couldn't help but worry though. It had barely been a day, and you had already found out that he lived alone in a wasteland and now was trying to save the literally world from destruction. You could only assume how much that weighed on him. Putting you hand on his shoulder you state,
"You know Five, I'm here for you. You don't need to carry the literal weight of the world on your shoulders."
"I know..." Five despondently replies looking away from you "It's just...after being alone for so long, I've forgotten what it's like to be around people you can rely on. I don't know what it's like to just live because I still feel like I'm trying to fight to survive."
Gently you place a hand on his cheek and turn his face back to look at yours once more. Looking him in the eyes you quietly say,
"You don't have to fight your battles on your own now. It's not just you anymore, it's us."
Between the soft look in your eyes, the warmth of your touch, and the strength of your words, Five couldn't help but feel his barriers begin to break down. All these years he dealt with the knowledge that the world would end, he dealt with the overwhelming loneliness of the apocalypse, and even more so he had to deal with the grief of finding his family dead and watching you die. When he was alone he forced himself to be strong and keep going because he had to survive in that desolate world. He forced himself to be tough and mentally resilient when he worked at the Commission because he couldn't let them on to what he was doing. But at this moment with you, he realized that he didn't need to do that anymore, at least not entirely. He didn't need to be strong, or mentally resilient, he didn't need to survive because he had you. Deep down he was just an emotionally scarred kid who longed for someone to help him and now he finally had that. You pulled Five into your chest and wrapped your arms around him as you let him release all the feelings he had kept inside. Tightly he wrapped his arms back around you. You could feel him shaking as he grabbed two fistfuls of your shirt to hold on to. He did not cry, but still you gently you stroked his hair trying to comfort him as you knew what it was like to be in his place.
You too were once completely alone and you had to force yourself to continue to live even if the pieces weren't really there. You could only imagine how much worse it was for Five, with no people to exist at all, he truly was alone. You could feel your eyes start to well up as your heart broke for your best friend, and the boy you loved. You'd never wish what he had gone through on anyone.
For a while, you two just sat there as you held on to each other. After years apart, neither of you wanted to be the first to let go. Neither of you wanted to let go ever again. But slowly, Five pulled himself out of your chest and looked at you. Having you was like having his own personal miracle and he would never wish for anything else but you. Noticing the tears that had fallen from your eyes, he used his thumb to gently wipe them away.  He looked at you for a moment more, but then the sound of the music coming from the radio caught Five's attention.
"You know what I haven't done in a very long time?" Five asked
"What?" You reply curious
"Dance," He said standing up and extending a hand "Care to dance with me?"
"I'd love to." You reply grabbing his hand
The soft music of the radio played in the background as the two of you danced around the courtyard. To him, every time he held you in his arms was better than the last. You got lost in his eyes and it felt like you were walking on air. You didn't realize it but you were. You had unintentionally made both you and Five lighter than air and so the two of you were gently swaying under the night sky. Five looked down for a second and saw that you two were just a bit off the ground. Your powers had really improved while he was gone.
"This is a neat trick." He commented
Confused you looked down. When you saw what was happening your unintentional lightness stopped and you started to fall to the ground. Quickly spacial jumping, Five placed himself underneath you and caught you in his arms.
"I told you I'm not going to let you fall."
Carefully, placing you back on your feet he added,
"How about we go watch one of those movies that I missed out on?"
"Yeah, sure" you replied
You stood there speechless for a second as he walked away. And when he realized you weren't following Five came back and grabbed your hand to bring you inside. You started to walk with him but your head was still up in space. He had told you before that he wasn't going to let you fall but you couldn't stop it because everything this boy did made you fall for him more and you were curious as to what these next days would bring.

"Diego!" Five yells from his room.
Diego shrinks into one of the kitchen chairs.
"Now what did you do?" Allison asks in front of him, with a mug in hand.
“I left some knives in his room,” He answers with a grimace.
“Bad idea, bro. Our dear Five has been very sensitive these days,” adds Klaus.
"I don't think it's that bad–“
A blue flash appears in the kitchen, causing Diego to jump back. Five raises one of his knives and glares at him.
"You think it's fun to stab my notes and maps?" He asks through his teeth.
Diego grimaces.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. I won’t leave them there again,” Five pushes his hand away.
“The problem is not that you forgot. Stop practicing in my room!" He yells, stabs the wooden table and then disappears. Klaus whistles.
"What was that all about?" Ben asks.
"Diego almost died... again,” Allison takes a sip of her mug calmly.
"That boy’s crazy! I've always practiced in all the rooms, I don't understand what the problem is now," says Diego taking his knife.
"Maybe Five is on his period," says Klaus.
"No, he's yelled at us more than usual lately and only leaves his room to eat," Ben adds thoughtfully.
“Perhaps he’s lost his mind officially…”
They were all thinking that was the most logical reason.
***
The next day all the siblings finish eating and help collect everything. When Five finishes his part, he decides to make himself a cup of coffee as usual, but taking a sip his face twists.
"Agh! Who do I have to kill to get a decent cup of coffee?" He complains looking at his siblings.
Allison, Diego, Luther, Ben, Klaus and Vanya look at each other without knowing what to do.
"You bought another kind of coffee yourself," Vanya says. Five shakes his head.
“No, someone must have changed it. It tastes awful,” He says, throwing away the coffee and washing the cup almost furiously.
The siblings share another worried look, they know it can get worse if they do something. Luther raises his hand and winks at them, the others tried to stop him, but it was too late
"I'll take care of it," he says, approaching his brother. “Five," He touches the boy's shoulder and he turns, raising an eyebrow. "Don't you think it's time for you to learn to control your anger?"
He says it with a reassuring smile, which doesn't last long as Five's features tightened.
"Control my anger?" He says, laughing cynically. "Oh brother this is nothing. Do you want to know what I can do when I'm really angry?"
Luther shakes his head repeatedly and babbles nervously.
“Five," says Vanya and her brother looks at her, finally noticing the fear in the others. He sighs.
"I'll go for a better coffee," he says and then disappears.
"I think Luther wet his pants," Diego says holding back a laugh as Allison slaps his shoulder.
***
Three weeks later.
"Guys!" Diego yells running to Allison's room, the largest of all, and calls his siblings to meet there.
"What's going on?" Ben asks.
“Is it important enough to interrupt my bath?" says Klaus dressed with a towel.
"You're okay?" says Vanya.
When everyone is together -except for Five- Diego thinks well what he has to say.
“You won’t believe what just happened.”
"Say it," Allison complains.
"I was practicing with my knives, I’m using a new technique that I have perfected–"
"Diego!" The others say at the same time.
"Yes, okay– I was practicing and I didn't realize that Five had entered, so by accident I cut his ear a bit. It was just a scratch! I think I panicked a little when it all happened.”
"And now he's looking for you to kill you?" says Ben crossing his arms.
“No, that's what I have to tell you. I apologized but he just... smiled. He said there was no problem, it was just an accident, and continued on his way.”
"Didn't he yell at you?"
"Threats? Revenge?"
"No, it's not- Do you think he's planning revenge?" He says, suddenly more nervous.
"Wait," says Allison. "You're telling us that Five,” points outside her room. "That little maniac we have for a brother, didn't do anything to you?” Diego nods.
"This is very strange," says Vanya.
"Do you think he's drugged?" Luther asks.
"No sir," says Klaus. "I would know.”
When everyone is silent, they hear the faint sound of a record: Dancing in the moonlight.
The Hargreeves brothers stay still in their places.
"Does the music come from..?” Diego says.
"Five's Room," Ben finishes for him.
"Maybe he is high," adds Klaus.
***
The next day Klaus grabs his walkman, puts on his headphones, and starts dancing around his room until he goes out into the hall.
Everything is fine, the music takes him to unimaginable places -just like his drugs- and from time to time he looks in the rooms of his siblings; Ben is reading, Vanya’s practicing on her Violin. Klaus smiles at them, but everything changes when he passes by Five's room, where he stops at the door frame.
For a moment he thinks he sees Five walking from one place to another fixing his outfit. He laughs at his own thoughts, but he can't help but hide to spy on him better and what he finds surprises him even more.
Five is dressed in dark jeans, a navy blue T-shirt, sneakers, and a leather jacket. Klaus can't believe what he sees, his brother in front of a mirror, combing his hair and adjusting his jacket.
Never in his life had he seen Five worry about his appearance and the worst thing is that he wears normal clothes! And not the uniform of the academy that he has become used to.
Klaus is gaping, but he knows he can't be there any longer, so he runs off to Allison's room and tells his sister everything he just witnessed.
"You've got to be kidding me," Allison says without taking her eyes off her magazine.
“I swear I'm not lying. I know I'm a genius at lying, but not this time."
His sister sighs and looks up.
"Okay, suppose that's true. Why do you think he’s doing it?"
“I don't know, that's why I came to you, little sister. I have no idea what is going on. Let's see it with your own eyes.”
She rolls her eyes and they both leave the room just as Five leaves his. Allison also can't believe what Klaus said was true.
"Five?" She asks.
“Hey," answers the boy with a half smile, causing chills in his two siblings.
"Are you going somewhere?" Ben and Diego peeked out their doors to find out what’s going on.
"I'll go out,” replies Five with a shrug and walking towards the stairs to avoid further questions.
“Five's not wearing the uniform..." says Diego, meeting with the others. "Did you also see him or am I going crazy?"
"This is so strange," adds Ben.
"Where do you think he went?"
"I don't know, but we have to follow him," Allison answers. "He didn’t use his power.”
The four of them were silent for a few seconds, until they ran to their rooms and grabbed their coats. Allison told Luther and Vanya on the way out. Diego hurried forward to look for Five and found him walking into a flower shop.
"What's happening to him!?" Klaus exclaims.
Five leaves the premises with a red rose in hand and a big smile before continuing on his way. Cautiously, the other Hargreeves followed him until he reached the cinema. The boy waited at the entrance next to the small cubicle where tickets are bought.
"He seems nervous," says Luther.
“What're you planning?" Diego asks in a whisper.
Klaus, Allison, Vanya, and Ben roll their eyes at their brother's question.
"Look!" Vanya points out the moment a girl calls out for Five.
He smiles at her and scratches the back of his neck nervously. The girl hugs him and he corresponds, then gives her the flower. They chat for a bit and then head off to buy their tickets.
"No way…”
"What?"
"I can’t believe it!”
“Shit."
"Five is–“
"On a date!"
***
Three weeks before.
"I'll go for a better coffee,” he says and then disappears.
While his siblings plan to avoid Five's anger. He appears outside the Griddy’s shop, where he and his siblings used to go often when they were younger.
He fixes his uniform, walks into the store and sits at the bar, ignoring the people. After a few minutes Agnes, the waitress takes his order, just black coffee.
While waiting, Five decides to look around: to his right were two gentlemen, talking and laughing. To the left, in the background, there’s a girl, perhaps the same age, sitting with a cup at her side and a notebook in front of her, she’s drawing, deeply concentrated. And further on are a group of four teenagers laughing and joking, every now and then one of them turns towards the girl.
His thoughts are interrupted by the cup of coffee Agnes brings him, his focus now on caffeine. That’s why he doesn’t hear the laughter increases.
Five is oblivious to what happens behind his back: A boy rips a napkin into small pieces, makes them into balls and begins to throw them towards the girl to attract attention.
Little by little the girl loses her patience with the teenagers, who have been visiting the store for three days only to annoy her while she tries to focus on her drawings.
A napkin ball falls on her table, another falls into her notebook, but when one touches her face and the laughter of the boys increases, she decides that’s enough.
Sighing, she doesn't want to leave the cafeteria, she's only been there for a few minutes and she really wants a moment alone, as she always manages to do. She looks up and looks around her and sees the two men who are about to leave, so she looks at the bar. A boy in uniform she’s never seen before is there.
It seems that they’re the same age, so she takes her cup, her notebook, pencil case, bag and walks towards the bar, on the boy's right side. She clears her throat and he looks at her sideways.
"Excuse me, does it bother you if I sit next to you?" says politely, pointing to the bench.
Five just shrugs. Y/N frowns at his reaction, she was expecting something more, but doesn't want to push, so she puts her things on the counter and reopens her notebook.
"Hi Y/N, can I get you more chocolate?" Agnes asks. And the girl nods.
Hearing the girl's request, Five can't help but roll his eyes thinking how childish it is to drink chocolate. After a few minutes, Agnes returns with the cup and offers it to the girl, who thanks with a smile.
"Now why did you change places, Y/N?" Agnes asks while cleaning the counter. "You always sit on the back."
She makes a face and points behind her.
"Oh, those children. They have come three days in a row, haven't they?"
"Yes, unfortunately.”
Five raises an eyebrow at the conversation. Agnes leaves to continue cleaning the place.
"Don't your parents say anything to you for drinking coffee?" Y/N asks him.
“No," He says curtly and she makes a face.
"Personally, I prefer chocolate," She adds with a smile.
"Good for you.”
Her smile falls at the boy's responses.
"Sorry, I just wanted to make conversation…”
The girl takes a sip from her cup, takes out the pencil she was using earlier, and goes back to her drawings.
Five is a bit surprised when the girl next to him no longer tries to get his attention, usually people nags until he loses it, especially about his uniform, or even recognize him from the academy. He turns a little and sees the delicate strokes the girl makes, along with some loose pages that almost fell off the notebook. Without thinking, Five asks.
"Did you do all that?"
She raises her head and watches the boy, who points to the paper.
“Oh yeah –uh. I did it,” She takes out one of the sheets and shows him a pencil drawing of a swallow.
Five takes the sheet.
"You're good," He says simply and returns the drawing.
"Thank you,” she answers with a smile. “I'm Y/N.”
"Five," he replies, nodding, she looks at him confused.
"What?"
"My name is Five."
“Oh…”
“Yeah."
Y/N shrugs, looks down, and notices his blazer.
"What school do you go to? I think I have seen that emblem before, but I don't remember…”
Five rolls his eyes, but knows it's his fault, he hinted to continue the conversation.
"A private one, it's not very well known,” He says, turning to the counter and taking his cup.
Y/N frowns trying to remember, but is unable to do so, as her thoughts are cut off by another ball of paper crashing against her nose.
"Ugh, you have to be kidding me," She complains, drawing the attention of Five.
"You know? If you say something to them, maybe they’ll stop bothering you.”
She snorts. “I already did, the first day they arrived. They invited me to be with them and when I said no, they did their best to annoy me, it has been like this for days. Every time I say something it's worse,” She rolls her eyes. “I guess they can't understand much when they have a brain the size of a walnut…”
The comment makes Five smile, remembering that he once said it to his brothers.
"Trust me, I know what you're talking about," he says.
"You do?" she asks.
"My brothers are not the smartest in the academy.”
She laughs.
“It must be fun going with your siblings to the same school. I’m an only child,” She adds.
"Sometimes it is…”
She opens her mouth to continue the conversation, but one of the annoying guys arrives at her spot, between Five and Y/N.
"Hey kid," He says, tapping Five's arm. "Why don't you just leave and go back to your stupid school?"
His friends laugh and Five turns completely still on the bench, looks at the boy with a tight smile.
"And leave Y/N in the hands of four idiots who don't know what a 'no' is?" He says sarcastically.
Y/N looks surprised, while the other boy clenches his hands into fists.
"Surely she’s bored with you, friend. I'm doing you a favor.”
“How considerate of you. What’s your next altruistic action of the day?"
That makes the girl laugh and Five raises an eyebrow, annoying the blond boy further.
"Do you want to fix this problem outside, kid?"
"I don't see why,” answers Five. "And you?" He asks Y/N and she denies. "You see?"
“You and me outside. Now.” The boy mutters.
“No, thanks.”
The friends get up. That puts the girl on alert, touching Five's shoulder and he notices it too.
"Just leave us alone," She says.
"Shut it, princess,” answers the blond.
Before anyone could do anything else, the blond grabs Five by the collar of his shirt and forces him out of the store. Being taller and stronger than Five, it was quite easy to pull.
Y/N quickly packs up her things and pays for her chocolate and Five's coffee. When the blond lets go of Five, he walks away laughing a bit.
"What's so funny, you idiot?"
"Oh nothing. Only- it's funny to think that you guys want to fight me.”
"Oh, let's break you up," says another of the guys.
Five laughs again and the four boys approach him, but he uses his teleportation power to dodge them. In less than five minutes, the boys are on the floor complaining. Five sees the end of the ‘fight’ and fixes his tie.
"I can't believe it," Y/N says, surprised by what she just witnessed.
The black-haired boy turns to see her and shifts somewhat uncomfortably instead.
"You're a freak!" Yells one of the boys on the ground, then stands up  and runs through the streets with his friends closely following him.
"You're okay?" asks the girl, getting closer.
“Obviously," He raises a brow.
"That was amazing!" She exclaims surprising the boy. "You're one of the Umbrella Academy, aren't you?"
"Uh- I, Yeah,” he says, there’s no point in denying it.
“Great!"
He frowns, then rolls his eyes and walks back to the store to pay for his coffee.
"Oh, I paid," she says.
"You didn't have to do it.”
"Come on, it's the least I can do," she says, smiling. "They won't go back to the store now. Thank you.”
Five looks her straight in the eye and smiles a little.
"You're welcome.”
"I - uh, do you have something to do?" She asks with a slight blush. "We could go to the park that’s nearby.”
Y/N hopes she doesn't sound like one of those desperate or intense girls, while Five thinks about his options. Go home to put up with his siblings or go to the park… with a cute girl.
"Sure, why not?"
She smiles again and they both walk into the park while talking about whatever comes to their minds.
After being together all afternoon, Five realizes that Y/N’s a funny and smart girl, when he tries to explain something to her about his power and how it can work using unusual terms, she tries to understand, and asks the right questions. She knows how to listen and takes it seriously. While she tells him about her art and some techniques that she has learned during her classes, getting all of Five's attention.
Both are happy to have met and although Five is not used to these new feelings, his curiosity wins and he wants to know more about her. The boy can't remember the last time he felt so… happy.
Throughout the remainder of the week and those that followed, Five returns to the store and meets Y/N, always in the same place. In a short time they know about their families, favorite activities, tastes…
The girl's company makes Five's anger and frustration dissolve quickly, he no longer takes it out on his siblings.
Five finds himself looking at every detail of the girl's face who’s telling him… something. His thoughts go beyond her voice, now every time he thinks of her, positive adjectives accompany it. Every time he walks to the store he gets nervous and Five knows that this is not normal.
So after three weeks, he works up the courage to ask her out to go to the movies. Y/N accepts, avoiding acting in a shameful way.
When the day of the date arrives, both teenagers are excited, but also anxious: Five decides to dress in 'normal' clothes when remembering that Y/N once asked if he was always wearing the academy uniform. He wanted to surprise her, while she’s dressed in a flowered, loose dress along with a denim jacket. The first to arrive is Five, after a few minutes she arrives with a beaming smile. The moment he sees her, he hides the red rose that bought her behind his back while smiling back.
"Wow, you look very different without wearing the uniform!" She says upon arrival.
"Hello to you too," He says, making her laugh.
Y/N hugs him by the neck and he reciprocates the hug. When they both part, he offers her the rose.
"I brought you this," he says with a little blush.
"It's beautiful, thank you,” She answers taking the flower.
"Uh- I was thinking the new action movie, but I don't know if you want to see it..?” He says nervously.
“It’s cool.”
The two of them get tickets, buy popcorn, and enter the room, oblivious to what is happening not far from them.
Five's siblings enter the cinema, after a discussion of whether it was right to spy on the boy, in the end, the idea of Klaus won. Inside the room, the film continues without problems, while the teenagers share from time to time a look, touch hands and laughs, the rest of the academy can not believe the attitude of their brother.
After the movie ends, Five and Y/N walk out of the room holding hands.
"It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that interesting," She says.
"I think the same.”
"Can you hold this? I have to go to the bathroom…”
He nods and takes her jacket along with the flower. When Y/N disappears, Five's smile falls.
"I know you're there, come out now.”
Several complaints are heard, but in the end the six brothers come out and approach Five.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"How did you know we were here?" Luther asks.
"I heard how you argued with Diego over the popcorn,” Ben and Klaus roll their eyes with ‘I warn you’ scowls. "I would recognize your voices anywhere," he says seriously.
"Oh, but that’s not the important thing here, little brother,” says Klaus as he walks to his side. “Who's that cute girl you have a date with?"
Five's cheeks flush, but he tenses his body at the question.
"It's none of your business.”
"Come on, Five. We don't want to ruin your date, just tell us her name,” says Allison.
"I'm sure you won't leave either way, sis,” replies Five with his usual ironic smile.
“Try us," Vanya adds with an amused smile.
He sighs. "Her name is Y/N, now get out!” The six laugh.
"Five?"
The boy tenses again when he hears her behind his back. He turns and smiles nervously at her as he hands her his things.
"Everything is alright?" She asks seeing the six kids who look at her excitedly. “Hello?" She says uncertainly.
Five closes his eyes for a few seconds cursing his family. There’s no escape, so he turns to his siblings and puts a hand on the girl's waist.
“Y/N, this is my family. They spied on us while we were watching the movie.” Now the girl looks at them surprised and a little embarrassed.
Five introduces each and she reciprocates the greeting.
"It's great that there’s someone who supports our dear brother,” says Klaus, approaching the girl and then hooking his arm with hers.
"It's not that bad,” She says looking at Five, who tries not to smile.
The six Hargreeves want to get to know the girl Five is dating, not knowing that this was their first date. So they followed the couple for the rest of the date.
Y/N gets along with the family with great ease, thinks Klaus is funny, discovers that she has things in common with Ben and Vanya, thinks that Luther’s protective of his family, Diego teaches her his power, and had a good conversation with Allison. All this under Five’s uncomfortable gaze.
The boy can’t deny that he’s happy to see the girl who likes to get along with his family, but he’s also frustrated at the interruption of their date. Only in the evening, when she said goodbye to everyone, did he have a moment alone to accompany her home.
"I like your family,” She says.
"I'm sorry they interrupted our date," He scratches the back of his neck.
"Next one will be just the two of us," She says, causing him to raise his eyebrows.
“Next one?"
"Yeah, why not?"
He smiles in relief.
"I can't believe my family hasn't ruined something in my life, I assure you that Diego and Luther's fights are always-"
Five is interrupted when Y/N stands on her tiptoes and kisses his lips chastely. The boy blushes just like her, but they both smile and Five leans in to kiss her again, shortly.
"See you tomorrow?" He asks when they part.
"I'll wait for you,” She answers.

First Date
pairing: Diego Hargreeves x reader
warnings: extreme amount of fluff, nervous Diego, etc.
notes: this piece is for a writing trade I’m doing with @lovcfools !
summary: the story of your first date with Diego
Tumblr media
Diego could hardly remember the last time he’d been this nervous let alone the last time he’d been on a real date. He still could hardly believe the fact that you’d actually accepted his offer to go out for a “bite to eat” as he’d put it, yet here he was at your front doorstep with his best shirt on and a decent bouquet of flowers (a first date must have according to Allison).
Diego’s breath catches in his throat the minute you open the door and by god do you look stunning. He gulps nervously and feels his palms begin to perspire, heart beat picking up rapidly when you flash that award winning smile of yours.
“H-Hi,” he greets, cursing himself for the stutter and hoping he’ll be able to keep it at bay throughout the evening.
“Hi Diego,” you grin. Your eyes notice the bouquet of flowers in his hand and twinkle with excitement. “Are those for me?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, I uh, I wasn’t sure what kind you liked so I got a little of everything,” he explains with a nervous laugh as he awkwardly thrusts the bouquet upon you.
“That’s so sweet of you,” you compliment, hugging the flowers close to your chest. “I didn’t really peg you as the flowers type of guy, if I’m being honest.”
“I guess I’m full of surprises,” he jokes, his confidence beginning to return to him now that he’s found his rhythm with you. You always have a way of throwing him off, making him slip up, and it’s not on purpose of course. You’re not even aware of the affect you have on him, but Diego always turns to putty whenever you’re around.
Once you’re ready he offers you his arm and walks you to his car, being sure to open and close your door for you as well. He resented his father for many things, but he had to give Reginald credit for the etiquete lessons they’d all had to participate in as kids. He figures he’ll take you a nearby diner; it’s quiet and simple, just the two of you with no distractions, and you can’t go wrong with fries and a burger for dinner. You listen to an old Kiss song on the way, stealing glances from each other and repeatedly getting caught in the process. But it’s fun and every time he shoots a wink at you you giggle, something that’s music to his ears.
Much like Griddy’s the diner is warm and inviting but pretty empty during the night, but neither of you seem to mind as you sit down and look through your menus. He expects you to order a salad (because that’s what most girls eat on date’s, right) and is pleasantly surprised when you instead order a cheeseburger with extra bacon and cheese fries, which you offer to share with him, of course.
“So what do you do for work?” You ponder curiously while playing with the paper wrapping of your straw.
“Oh, you know,” he shrugs offhandedly, “odd jobs around the city. You?”
“Kindergarten teacher,” you reply with a smile. “I’ve been teaching for five years now.”
“So you must be good with kids then?”
“I think you have to be if you want to be a teacher. Others may not share my sentiment but I want the kids to have a place to feel safe, even if it’s just for a few hours a day. Who knows what they have to deal with outside of school?”
Diego smile faintly at that, his mind wandering as he fiddles with his butter knife. Your kind hearted tenderness reminds him a lot of his mother, and he wishes he could have met you sooner. Your presence definitely would have helped during his childhood years. He wonders what your reaction would be if you actually knew what he did during his “odd jobs,” if you actually knew who he was, what he could do, and what he’d done. A nice little school teacher on the arm of a vigilante was a funny picture in his head, and he could already hear his siblings giving him shit for his choice in women. But you were different than what he was used to, a good different, sweet and normal and sane. It was a change but a good one, and he really hoped this whole thing could work out.
Despite how full you both are from gorging on dinner food, you decide to split a bowl of ice cream. Diego lets you pick the flavor, and though he isn’t particularly fond of your choice he says nothing as you smile and talk about your upcoming trip to visit some family. He pays the bill despite how much you protest but agrees to let you be the one to leave a tip, and though you’re reluctant it’s starting to get late so you have no choice but to start heading back home. He takes the longer route this time so you can have more time together, and you’re delighted when he uses his free hand to hold your own as he drives.
Diego makes you feel safe in a way no one else ever has. He’s warm, he’s strong, he’s very handsome, and despite only having been on one real date with him you know that he’d do anything to protect you. Perhaps it’s too soon to tell, but you feel like you could fall in love with him if you wanted to, and you do.
“Do you go on dates often?” You ask, and though you try to remain neutral your obvious prying tone has Diego quietly chuckling in the driver’s seat.
“Nah. I usually don’t even get this far in.”
“So what was different about tonight?”
“I really like you,” he replies earnestly, and you’re grateful for the fact that his eyes are on the road and not casted upon your blushing cheeks.
When you return home he opens your door for you once again and walks you all the way up to the front steps until you’re face to face, waiting with baited breath to see who will make the next move first.
“So...”
“I had a nice time tonight,” you smile gently.
“Does that mean I can take you out again sometime?” Diego asks with a hopeful glimmer in his eyes.
“I think it would be wrong not,” you reply with a cheeky grin. “Will you call me when you get home so I know you got there safely?”
“I will.”
“Okay. Goodnight Diego.”
“Goodnight y/n.”
Neither of you turns to leave, instead choosing to linger there on your front doorstep. Your eyes dart from his intense gaze down to his lips, and a small breath escapes you as his warm hand comes to gently cup the back of your neck. He’s pulling you in closer, guiding you to meet him halfway until your mouths are meshing together in a sweet kiss. He isn’t abrasive or rough, but his lips do glide across your own skillfully and his tongue darts out for a mere moment to lick at your bottom lip. It’s sweet and it’s romantic and it has you wanting more the minute he pulls away. He smiles at you then, thumb rubbing carefully along your warm skin, and he leans in to give you one more firm kiss.
“I’ll call you,” he promises again.
“You better,” you murmur with a small smile.
Diego slips away from you to get back into his car and already you find yourself missing the warmth and comfort his presence brings you. He gives you a wave as he slips into the front seat and doesn’t drive off until he sees that you’ve made it inside alright and are tucked in safe for the night.
With the windows down and the radio playing some old song he doesn’t remember the name of, Diego realizes he’s found himself in quite the predicament. His head needs to be focused on his work, he can’t afford any distractions, but there seems to be one tiny problem: he’s falling in love with you.

Main Master List | TUA Master List
Tumblr media
It was my first day of work. Time to put my training to work. I am currently working my evening shift at Griddy's Doughnuts. It wasn't too busy and I liked it like that. The bell rung alerting me of a new customer and a smile made it's way onto my face automatically. In came a kid around my age (16) and he took a seat at the counter.
"Hello, may I take your order?" I asked politely at the handsome young man sitting in front of me.
"Coffee, black," He stated and I felt my smile falter for a second. What a rude guy. I turned around and started to prepare the coffee, humming softly to the tune that sounded throughout the small dinner. I poured the brown liquid into the white ceramic cup and placed it in front of the black haired boy.
"Would that be all?" I asked.
"No thank you..." He trailed off his eyes lowering onto my chest. I felt uncomfortable until he finished his sentence. "(Y/n)." Oh he was just looking at my name tag. Of course why would I think anything different. I felt my face heat up at my thoughts and turned back around to clean some dishes. "I haven't seen you work here before."
"This is my first day," I replied glancing back at him and saw that he was staring at the back of my head. He hummed in response telling me that he was listening.
"My, this is the best coffee I had in ages," He complimented with a small smile.
"Thank you," I smiled. At least he was being more polite. I set his bill on the counter top and went to take care of another customer. When I came back he was gone. I felt a little sad since I was just starting to enjoy his company.
Yet my next shift he was there again. This time it was later at night so he was the only one here besides me. He once again got a black coffee. It was quiet for the most part, I went back to reading my book (which Miss Agnus let me when the day went by slow or if no one was in). I felt the stare of someone on me and I glanced up to see the kid's blue eyes focused on me. I tilted my head to the side and felt my cheeks once again heat up.
"Five," He said with a smirk.
"Five what?" I asked out confused.
He sighed the smirk leaving his face, "My name, it's Five." My eyes widened and I felt stupid even though the misunderstanding wasn't entirely my fault.
I nodded, "Unique." He rolled his eyes and I felt bad, but can you blame me I have no clue how to talk to people!
"Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children?" He asked reading the title of my book.
"Oh yeah!" I exclaimed with a smile. "I'm rereading it, it's one of my favorite series."
"I'll have to check it out sometime," Five concluded. "What is it about?"
"It's...a lot and I'm not really good at explaining things," I explained sheepishly. "I do recommend it because it's a fun read." He nodded in understanding. I handed him his bill and a pen and he started to write something on it. I didn't pay attention and went back to reading. I glanced up from my book once again only to see the bill he wrote on next to me. I looked at it and it read;
Call me xxx-xxx-xxxx
I was surprised and held onto the piece of paper. I decided I would call him the next day and I was completely nervous. What if he gave me a fake number? Wait why would he even do that? I let out a sigh and quickly pressed the call button like I was ripping off a band aid. I held my phone to my ear listening to the rings which were quickly silenced by Five.
"Hello?" He asked.
"O-oh hey its uh, (y/n)," I rambled nervously. I fiddled with my shirt sleeves staring at my ceiling.
"Oh hey," Five said almost dismissively. "Are you free today?"
"Yeah," I replied, glad it was a Saturday.
"Text me your address and I'll pick you up around noon," He stated.
"Okay, see you then," With that we hung up.
I got off my bed and ransacked through my closet looking for some nice clothes to wear. I then went to take a shower and dried my hair off with a blow dryer. As I was finishing up my mom told me someone was here for me. I made my way down to the living room and there sat Five. He looked at me and gently smiled which was odd but it made my heart flutter anyways.
"Ready to go?" He asked standing up. I nodded and my mom gave me some money before we left.
"So where are we going?" I asked tilting my head.
"Oh you'll see," He smirked. We walked down different streets and our hands would brush or our shoulders would bump which made me slightly flustered. We ended up at the zoo which was a nice surprise. Five payed which I was against, and we looked at all the different animals. Sometimes he would give me some random facts. It was fun and over time we held hands. It was nice and I loved all of it. It was obvious that this was no friendly outing but I surprisingly not scared, nervous or anxious. He ended up walking me home and we were standing outside on the steps to my home.
"I had a good time," I said with a bright smile feeling better than I ever have.
"I did too," He agreed. "I hope to do this again soon."
"That would be fun!" I grinned feeling like I was soaring over the moon.
"How about next week," Five offered.
"That sounds good."
"Have a good night (y/n)," Five said giving me a kiss on the cheek before leaving. My mouth hung open and I felt like my breath was taken away and it didn't help that I knew that cheeky bastard was smirking.
But I didn't mind since we just went on a perfect date.

Hey! Literally love your writing, and I was wondering if you could do a hc with five and dating in highschool au? Thanks so much and if you don't do this I completely understand! Love ya ☺
i mean since you said you loved me 👉👈🥺
Five x reader high school AU:
Five would be the really smart popular kid, he’d be well known but 100% be in a clique of ‘bad boys’ not really but there always is that one group of boys isn’t there
maybe you’d meet because he got asked to tutor you or you got paired together in a project (in maths or physics most likely)
Starts off by meeting like once a week during a free period
but then slowly as you warm up to him (because Five minus the apocalypse i reckon he’d be rather charming or just a slight heartbreaker) you start spending more time together, maybe move up to two to three periods a week of meeting up
at this stage you wouldn’t even be working on the project/ tutoring just sitting and talking together
as soon as he had your number he’d text you at random times during the school day asking when you’re free then talking more and more after school
“do you want to come to Griddys with me this weekend”
one griddy date turns to another and more and more, meeting up at each other’s houses and spending loads of time together, as well as making sure when he can walking you home after school
he’d ask you out probably at griddys
after then when you were ‘official’ you’d want to keep it lowkey
but he wouldn’t so slowly he’d start being more affectionate with you in public
holding your hand as you walk to school
randomly coming up behind you and hugging you
randomly wrapping his arm around your shoulder/ waist
and eventually everyone caught on but never really said anything about it, just accepted it and never said anything
He’d probably be very affectionate and soft™️
The first time you’d wear one of hoodies or shirts to school hed have the biggest grin on his face all day
he’d still sit and help you with school work without question
when his siblings found out i think it would be interesting to say the least
Diego probably wouldn’t care and neither would luther but allison, vanya, klaus and ben would 100% be so excited to meet you (must to Fives dissamay)
but it meant that he didn’t have to sneak you into the academy anymore
soft™️

Klaus Hargreeves Headcanons
Tumblr media
Request: Yo I would looove some Klaus Hargreeves x gnc male reader Headcannons
I hope these are okay @plants-are-sick! <3
Comments are much appreciated!
You and Klaus would definitely steal skirts. Klaus, to distract the two of you from, you know, the oncoming apocalypse, would sneak into Allison’s room when she wasn’t there and steal half her clothes from the wardrobe. Cue Allison arriving home, with Klaus wearing one of her long leather skirts, his feet on your lap on the sofa while you’re wearing one of her shirts unbuttoned.
The two of you are so lovey dovey, all the time. Poor Ben, in the end, keeps on having to shout at Klaus, or wave his hands in front of his face to try and get his attention. Most of the time, though, Klaus would just push Ben out of the way, unblinking, before he goes back to feeding you one of Grace’s blueberry and bacon smile pancakes at the breakfast table.
Ben, bless, him, sometimes just has to give in, and in the end, join in. He, surprisingly, gives reasonably good fashion advice.
Sometimes, you’ll come out and take him out of the Academy, if not to get him away from his siblings for the day, just to help him control his cravings (he finds it a lot easier to avoid the drugs when he’s in your company). The two of you will just be out, fingers entangled within each others, palms pressed close as they swing between your hips as you walk through the closest park.
When you get back, the two of you will collapse down onto the sofa. One arm wraps around your waist, resting his fingers comfortably on your hip before pressing a kiss into your hair as you nestle into his chest.
When he thinks you’ve fallen asleep, he sneakily reaches down, biting his lip as he tries not to rustle you, until he bumps into your pocket. He pulls out the cigarettes from your skirt/ trouser pockets, thanking himself for having stashed a few extra spares in their a few days before.
The two of you are both equally as horrifying dancers, but that doesn’t stop the two of you from running off to a thrift store and buying bulks of disco balls and neon lights, as well as some beaded curtains and feather boas to hang around the place.
The look on Diego’s face when he walks in on your little ‘disco’, was worth all the money spent.
Too many times to count, Five has walked into Klaus’ room in order to discuss an important question with him, or to try and get him to conjure Reginald Hargreeves, only to find the two of you jumping up and down on his bed.
When the two of you finally collapse down in a fit of giggles, you have to explain to Five that Klaus had dared you, so of course you had to dare him, to touch the ceiling, which had soon turned into a very heated competition.
Most nights, the two of you sneak out so you can go buy him donuts at Griddys. These are his favourite memories, the two of you sitting on the scarlet swivel chairs, custard streaked against your nose as he gazes at you in adoration, jam covering most of his cheeks. It reminds him so much, of when the two of you had stolen your first kiss here when you were kids.
Only a few times, when you both try to avoid Luther and sneak out the back way, has he fallen into the bin.
Many times over the course of your dating history, has Klaus crashed at your place. Half the time, however, you don’t even know he’s there until you wake up, and see him in your bathrobe. His arms are completely wrapped around his waist, head pressed tight against the tip of your cheek as he snores against your chest.
After his whole Vietnam trip, when he’s having bad nights, you’ll have baths with him. He’ll rest against your back, sighing as you place his Walkman’s headphones over his ears. He lets his head fall back against your shoulder, breathing evening out as you rub a washcloth against his arm, careful not to rustle him too much as you trace over his tattoos.

A Notice
Movie/Game/Show: Umbrella Academy Dynamic: Klaus Hargreeves/Reader Warnings: dead Reggie Summary: How did Klaus and his wife get together? ~~~
A note came back with her dog at noon on a fittingly sunny Sunday in late June.
(Y/n) held up the note to her face as she gently pat her plump dog’s side, sending Scratch off to the kitchen where he could pester her mother for lunch scraps. Her brows furrowed at how odd it seemed - words scribbled in a multitude of colorful markers ranging from bright red to murky brown.
“‘Your dog’s pretty fat, I’ll walk him for you if you want! For like two dollars anyway. Oh, this is your neighbor, Klaus, by the way!’”
She turned to the living room, where her little brother and father were watching television together, “Do we have a neighbor named Klaus?”
Her father hummed, squinting at the bright screen, “Those Hargreeves’ kids have wild names. Probably one of them,” he looked to the squirming four-year-old beside him with a wide grin, “Do you know, Owen?”
The small boy shook his head quickly, leaning his head into the man’s chest, eyes still stuck on the television. (Y/n) nodded, walking into the kitchen where her mother was cooking, “Do you know the Hargreeves? The kids’ names, I mean.”
“I believe there’s an Allison in there,” the woman murmured, still facing the stove, “Maybe a Ben… but I know one of them goes by Five. A little weird if you ask me but…” she trailed off.
“Oh,” (Y/n) pressed her lips into a thin line, “I’m gonna go over there and just check it out.”
“Why?”
There was no response, not when the tween was already at the front door shoving her shoes on. The woman shook her head with a light giggle, “Henry, your daughter’s going over to the neighbors!”
“Your daughter too, Miriam!”
That was all (Y/n) heard before she was rushing down the sidewalk towards the biggest house on the block. The biggest house in town, more likely. She pushed the gate open, cringing at how it creaked under her palm before coming up to the door. Clanging the heavy door knocker against the wood, she waited with the note in hand for someone to answer.
After a few seconds, a boy no older than she had answered. He quirked a brow at her before moving to slam the door, “We’re not buying anything.”
“Oh no, I’m not selling,” she instantly blurting, bringing the paper to his attention, “Does anyone named Klaus live here? He left this attached to my dog’s collar.”
He huffed, clearly disinterested in conversation as a whole, however, he gave her a tight-lipped smile and held up his index finger, “Just a moment.”
And promptly slammed the door shut in her face, she flinched at the rude move. (Y/n) blinked up at the manor, taking quick notice to how eerie it seemed from the outside - she wondered how the interior looked as well. A few seconds later, the comically large door opened, a new brunette boy peeking through.
“Hey, you got my note!” he pointed at the paper in her hands, “I’m glad it was you and not some weird old guy.”
“You… you didn’t know who it would be going to?”
Klaus looked to the sky, as if in thought, before shaking his head, “Not really.”
“Wow,” (Y/n) breathed out, placing a hand over her stomach, “I think that just took a few years off my lifespan.”
“Five says I have that effect on people,” he leaned on the wedged-open door, “So, do you need a dog walker or sitter or both?”
A note came back with her little brother at three in the afternoon on a rainy Tuesday in mid-March.
“Sissy?” Owen’s quiet voice called from the hallway, one hand clutching a crinkled piece of paper by his side while the other fiddled with pieces of his hair.
(Y/n) looked over from her textbooks, no longer as invested in the Russian Empire of the seventeen hundreds as before. She spun around in her desk chair, giving her baby brother a sweet smile as he stepped into her room. Owen held up the paper, placing his rather sticky hands on his sister’s thighs, trying to hoist himself into her lap by himself.
She quietly chuckled before setting the parchment aside and picking the first-grader into her lap, cringing when she felt at his hands, “Oh, you mister, are going to have to wash those mitts.”
He whined, burying his face into the material of her nightshirt in protest to the mere idea of getting up and washing his hands.
“Fine, fine, not now,” she rubbed his small back, picking up the paper.
“‘You should come to our hangout spot, not the shack the other one. The secret one around midnight. This is your friend, Klaus, by the way.’”
Of course, it had to be the rickety old treehouse in the field by their neighborhood - at midnight. Let’s not forget midnight. (Y/n) huffed, pulling herself up by the splintering wooden planks acting as a ladder, though what worried her was the lack of Klaus-like noises. Usually, he would be eager to make his presence known to her whether it be by offering a hand or his loud, shrill giggles at whatever the ghosts were saying now.
Eventually, she managed her way up, finding Klaus sitting oddly still and silent. She reached for his shoulder, finding no pleasure in the way he flinched before whipping around to meet her. However, rather than a pale, cold corpse positioned to look like her friend, she was met with crooked, off-white teeth on full display.
Klaus turned around, taking the girl’s hands in his, “I know I’m not the guy your parents would dream of you dating but- “
“Woah, woah,” she felt winded, looking to the side briefly, “Are you- are we?”
“(Y/n),” he breathed out, getting onto his knees in a mockery of a proposal, “will you do me the honors of taking you out on a date?”
A tiny giggle escaped from her, she pulled him down into a hug, “Yes, I’d love to.”
A note came back with her father at five in the afternoon on a cloudy Friday in early December.
“You’re doing it wrong,” Owen muttered, leaning against the fridge as his sister whisked eggs.
(Y/n) paused to glare at her little brother, “How does someone whisk eggs wrong?”
He gestured to her hands, “The way you’re doing it.”
The front door to her childhood home opened, the woman sighed, shaking her head, “Dad, I told you to let me know when you’re going out for a run! Scared me half to death when I couldn’t find you this morning.”
“Sorry, little lady,” Henry grinned down at his daughter, ruffling her hair before taking the bowl of raw eggs with one hand, “Your boyfriend asked me to give this to you.”
Another note. She took it with a quiet mumble of her gratitude, not understanding why her boyfriend of almost a decade - starting around fifteen years of age and still going strong into twenty-five - had to use a note rather than his phone to contact her. Though, she supposed the nostalgia was appreciated while they visited their home neighborhood.
“‘You should come by Griddy’s in like half an hour! You know, for old time’s sake. This is your boyfriend, Klaus, just so you know.’”
Klaus was a lot of things, spontaneous only scratching at the surface of that word bank. Of course, it was in the back of her mind that he’d invite his siblings, but she didn’t really expect it to happen. (Y/n) gave the four other Hargreeves a small wave before joining her beau at the smooth beige counter.
“I thought you guys only saw each other for funerals and weddings?” she murmured, tacking on a small laugh when it felt strange not to.
“Well,” Klaus reached into his coat pocket, “I suppose they make an exception for proposals now.”
“For what?” she gasped, watching, completely stunned, as he stood and took her hands in his own.
Klaus thrived off of attention, so it shouldn’t have baffled her that the eyes on them only encouraged his actions. He grinned wildly, not too unlike a maniac, “I always thought you were the foxiest little thing on the street ever since I saw you. Then, you became the sweetest little thing but now…” he let go of her only to open the velvet box and show off the ring inside, “I want you to be my every-little-thing.”
“Oh, sweetie,” (Y/n) cupped his cheeks, nodding, “Of course!”
The peeping adults, and some children who followed their parents’ example, gave over a round of applause. Agnes smiled at the newly engaged couple, making an announcement about a round of free donuts for the patrons. As it died down, Ben gave Klaus a pat on the back - well, the sentiment was appreciated even though his hand just went through the living man’s body.
He giggled, not willing to admit how nervous he truly was, “I didn’t think that’d work as well as it did.”
(Y/n) pulled his head closer to her lips, kissing his forehead before releasing him, “If there’s anyone I’d want to marry, it’d be you.”
Klaus brought up a hand to fiddle with the sleeve of his fiance’s shirt, a bad habit he partook in during occasional nervous fits, “Even if that anyone was an ex-junkie?”
“If I wanted to marry anyone,” she repeated, tone much firmer than before, “it’s you. Ex-junkie and all, babe.”
“That was just adorable,” Klaus snorted, leaving her sleeve in favor of watching Agnes come toward the family with plates of donuts in hand.
A note came back with her husband at eight at night on a rainy Saturday in late March.
(Y/n) was nestled into the couch of her and her husband’s home, with the heater broken there was little to nothing keeping out the creeping cold of March’s spring-winter amalgamation. The front door slammed open, alerting the woman until Klaus ran into the living room. He was holding up a torn-out article from the day’s newspaper, winded from rushing over to the house.
She stood, taking the paper before leading her poor, exhausted husband to the couch. Sitting beside Klaus, (Y/n) looked over the article while rubbing his back, “Oh my God…”
“I know!” Klaus wheezed, though despite the usually horrifying news he was smiling as if he’d just been told something uncontrollably amazing.
As awful as it was to say, (Y/n) didn’t feel bad about her upcoming disregard for her father-in-law’s life, “Do you think he left you anything?”
“‘SIR REGINALD HARGREEVES: DEAD!’”
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?” the woman murmured, stopping her husband from entering the manor, “I know he was an awful person and I just don’t want you to feel forced to come here.”
“I want to be here,” Klaus whispered, turning to his wife, eyes wide, “Gotta make sure the old man’s really dead!”
She chuckled, pushing the door open, “Wouldn’t you be able to see him?”
“Not sure,” he shook his head, looking around the main hall, “I think hell has delayed seance service, sweetheart.”
Just as (Y/n) went to make her own joke, a voice called out to them from the staircase, “Klaus, (Y/n), what a lovely surprise.”
Diego, of course, the little optimist that he was. (Y/n) gave her brother-in-law a tiny wave, “Good to see you as well, Diego.”
A warning came with her time-traveling brother-in-law.
“What- what- what do you mean?” (Y/n) shook her head, her hand intertwined with her husband’s, “The world can’t just end like that! Shouldn’t there be signs, like all the animals acting weird or extreme weather?”
Five paused, narrowing his eyes at his sister-in-law, “You know, it’s funny. I’m from the future, I can remember the tiniest details of my life before getting stuck, and I’m smarter than all of you combined but still…” he walked towards the woman, “I have no clue who you are or what you’re doing here.”
“Woah,” Klaus intervened, “don’t be so rude to your sister-in-law, little Five. She’s just trying to help.”
Of course, he knew that. Five remembered meeting her. He saw her. In the past, obviously, but in the future as well. He saw her there, in the rubble of the Umbrella Academy with her husband - dead. Eyes peeled open in horror, it was haunting to look at. To look at all of them, really.
Walking corpses stained into the individual wrinkles of his brain.
“Whatever,” Five huffed, turning to leave the room, “I don’t have time for this.”
Klaus came closer to his wife, brushing a thumb over her cheekbone, “I’m sorry about him.”
“Don’t be,” (Y/n) took his hand from her face, intertwining their fingers, “Assuming your brother isn’t coo-coo, he’s under a lot of stress.”
But there was no way he wasn’t crazy. The world couldn’t just end so abruptly, right?
Right?

Indestructible  (Klaus x Reader x Vanya)
Ep. Number 5
Warning: Mention of drugs (cocaine/weed are abused in this series), Swearing, Pretty gay, Female POV but can be easily changed if needed, SPOILERS, it follows the same story line as the show so there’s a ton, gore
Word Count: 1.8k
“What’re you doing under there?” You asked Klaus who was digging under his bed. He popped his head out, grinning at you wildly.
“Come here,” He waved you over. You cautiously took a seat on the floor next to him. He pulled out a baggie underneath the Polaroids of the two of you.
“Klaus is that-”
“Maybe,” He smiled, he was tired, but still the excitement of doing something he shouldn't overtook the guilt that weighed on him as his deceased brother looked over his shoulder disappointingly. “It helps quiet things down.” He explained looking behind you at a tall dark figures hiding in the corners of his room.
You watched, mesmerized by the fluidity of his motions as he skillfully rolled a joint, sticking the filtered end into his mouth before digging into the box to find a lighter. He took a long hit, coughing a little before passing it to you.
You stared at your friend’s latest fix. Looking up at him as he exhaled shoulders relaxing as the smoke left his lungs. You craved that peace. The quiet he spoke of. You breathed in the smoke for the first time,
and for the first time it felt like you could breathe.
//
Diego wordlessly drove you back to Griddy’s where you had your car towed to by the nice man in the truck for the low low price of a thirty second hand job. You played with your hands, feeling absolutely sick to your stomach. How could you have let this happen. Sometimes- Most of the time it felt like you were the only one there for Klaus. You had always been there for him. Even Diego hadn't been the one to bail him out of jail half the time. Or checked up on him while he was in rehab. Hell, to check in with him in rehab. Maybe you weren't the best influences on each other a lot of the time but you had always been there.
“I'm sorry,” You started not looking up at Diego. His jaw clenched. You still had hope for Klaus. Diego knew Patch was gone.
“It’s not your fault.” He croaked trying to keep his voice steady.
“I could have done something-”
“”Drop it.” You stopped, bowing your head in shame and worry. He signed feeling sorry for snapping but not having the energy to apologize. “Go on.” He says pulling up next to your car. You give him a weak but appreciative smile, getting in your car. He nods and backs out of the parking lot, wiping away a stray tear.
You wait for him to leave before settling into the back seat, an old shirt of Vanya’s as a pillow.
//
“You have beautiful hair.” You smile, running your hands through her soft, dark strands. It was late. You should be in your room but you were dazed and a little high still, just wanting to be close to someone.
“You’re high.” She sighed, looking away, the moonbeams accentuate the exhaustion on her face. She was still so lovely, and you were sure you looked worse. On her back, her hands on her stomach, her chest ached as you cuddled into her side. She had never felt this way before and she wasn't quite sure what this was.
“Only a little, but you’re always beautiful.” You say dreamily, nuzzling her shoulder. After a moment of silence you ask a question you had been wandering yourself for a couple months now, “Vanya,” She turns her head slightly, still shy but wanting to look at you. “Have you ever been kissed?” She hadn’t left the Academy more that thrice in the last year, even less the year before. The answer was a simple no. In her sixteen years of living she hadn’t known anyone but her siblings. Who would she have kissed?
“No,” She whispered embarrassed, a little curious, definitely anxious as you lifted yourself to get a better look at her. Your face hovered over her’s, eyes flickering down to her lips.
“Do you want to be?
//
You stumbled down the sidewalk, Agnes had found you that morning shivering and whimpering in your sleep. She woke you up by knocking softly on the car window. Handing you a cup of coffee and asking if she could do anything to help. You smiled softly thanking her but ultimately having a mission. You had to find Klaus.
A couple blocks away from Griddy’s and you saw a small explosion followed by wails that sounded far too familiar. You raced around the corner finally finding Klaus, hunched over a broken suitcase, bits and pieces of it shattered. You called his name bending down beside him and taking his head in your lap. He sobbed clinging on to you as if his life depended on it.
You hugged him close letting his cries die down until no sound was left. You had never heard anything like it from him. He was absolutely distraught. Tears of your own pooled in your eyes as both relief and dread settled into your chest.
Finally you got him to stand, your arm wrapped around his ribs as you made your way to the only home you had left.
“You want me to make you some tea?” You asked softly, he had complained of a headache.
“Coffee actually, thanks,” He sighed, scratching his chest and settling on his childhood bed.
“Okay,” You smile softly at him, the expression quickly fading as you turned around and headed to the kitchen. He hadn't wanted to talk about it when you got home and you let that be. What he had been through in the past forty eight hours, calling it horrific couldn't begin to describe it.
By the time you had made the coffee, Five was speaking to Klaus who looked dazed and annoyed. Five whipped around and glared at you, you stared back at him. “Get out,” He exclaimed, frustrated by your ignoring his glare as you handed Klaus the coffee. He took it gratefully smiling up at you weakly before downing the cup. You looked at the kid, handing him your mug of coffee thinking he probably needed it more.
“I'm trying to have a serious conversation with my brother.” He took the mug anyway, chugging it faster than Klaus had. You looked over at him, he shrugged exhausted and defeated. You go to say something but leave, emotionally drained from the day's events as well.
But you felt the urge to look for the people who had done this to Klaus. You felt the rage in the pit of your stomach burn and you pushed through the tiredness from your two basically sleepless nights.
“-Interrogation over.” Klaus huffs, leaving to go after you but by the time he makes it outside you’re gone.
//
A knock on the car window makes Diego and Klaus jump, seeing it's you Diego rolls down the window. “You guys suck at hiding.”
“What’re you doing here?”
“Same as you, I'm getting revenge,” You smirk.
“They'll see you,” Diego hissed. You shrug looking up at the mostly abandoned motel.
“”They know why I'm here,” You say looking up and catching Hazel’s gaze. You flip him off smiling grimly.
“Get in.” You slip into the backseat digging into your jacket pulling out the gun you got the other night.
“I have a gun.” You say after a pause, making Diego whip around to see if you were joking or not.
“Why?!” He exclaimed reaching for it, you pull it out of his reach, as Klaus looks at you amusingly.
“I traded with my roommate for it.” You grin.
“Jen?” He asks.
“Mhm, well it wasn’t exactly a trade, she was like give me your drugs, bitch,” You gesture with the weapon, making Diego flinch, “and I said, Jen, please put it down, and she just kept yelling so I went and got the drugs and she threw the gun at me and told me to get out, and I mean even without any weapons she's pretty intimidating-”
“Where are you staying?” Diego asked, now more concerned than he was before.
“In my car, “ You say casually, Klaus gave you a worried look, suddenly feeling guilty he hadn't thought about that before. “So now I have like three outfits, from when I was staying in my car last year, no drugs, and a gun.” You explain counting the things off on your fingers.
“Gimme that-'' Diego wrestled you for the gun, reaching behind the driver seat to get it. You yell as he snatched it from your hands.
“Stop! That's one of my only possessions, I gave everything for that!” You pout.
“Relax we were gonna use it for the same reason anyway.” He mutters checking to make sure the gun was loaded.
“Oh. Okay well, go get em, sport,” You grin almost sarcastically, patting his shoulder and exiting the car.
“Where are you going?”
“Well, I was gonna use the gun on them, but since you took it from me, I’ll just have to use my hands,” You smile wildly at Diego's shocked expression. He holds you back from climbing the back stairs of the motel, pushing you back into Klaus who had stepped out with his brother.
“You two stay here.” He states not waiting for a response before sneaking discreetly but efficiently up the stairs.
“Are you seriously staying in your car?” Klaus asks, concerned etched in his tone.
“Yeah, where else would I go?”
“The Academy? Vanya's place?” You laugh at the thought. You had put her through enough over the years. “And you’re sober?”
“I had to be, I was looking for you,” You say looking over at him as you trailed behind Diego. “And I have no money,” You tease taking a breath as you two finally catch up to Diego.
“Don't wait up,” You smile racing ahead of the two. You turn a corner into the open motel room. Empty. “Shit,” A shot rings out outside and Diego groans in pain. You sprint and take the gun from his hand, turning and shooting at the vehicle speeding up the street, hitting and shattering the back window and just barely missing one of the back tires. Another shot is heard but you barely notice as you sigh, having let them escape once again.
“Holy shit, (Y/N),” Klaus exclaims holding a hunched Diego, his eyes glued to your abdomen. You look down to see the wound bleeding through your sweater.
“I'm keeping this.” You state calmly about the gun, aiming to finish what you started. You turn the corner before writhing in pain. Maybe Klaus was right. Maybe Vanya would take you in, at least for the night. You struggle up the street, gripping your stomach, she was only a couple blocks away.
//
“What about my family.” Five muttered.
What about them” The Handler spoke, unamused.
“I want them to survive.”
“All of them?”
“Yes, all of them,” he paused looking over at Klaus, “And that (Y/N), I want her alive to.”
The Handler chuckled, “Well you don't have to worry about that,” She grinned. Five gave her a suspicious look. She shrugged “I'll see what I can do,”

Everything Wrong With The Umbrella Academy. Episode 3, Extra Ordinary.
We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals
Run Boy Run
Usual disclaimer: This is all in good fun! I wanted to do a really nitpicky re-watch of the series and found some really cool and interesting things I didn’t notice before. This is meant to have a Cinema Sins-esque tone. However, I did take off a lot more sins than Cinema Sins would have because I do genuinely like the series and the people that made it possible. So all of the good things got one sin off and all the bad things got one sin added. This is a really long post, so grab some popcorn. If there’s anything that I missed, feel free to add it!
Vanya was clearly about to sell her violin. She looked dejected and sad and was detached from her violin case. This is in character for Vanya on her pills, who must have decided that she wasn’t good enough at one point. Sin for putting Vanya through trauma. +1
The Umbrella Academy comics are priced weirdly. The one on the right is $25.00 and the one on the left is $15.00. What makes the one on the right more expensive? It even says on the cover that the one on the right was supposed to be $0.50. So why the inflation? Taking a closer look, all six heroes are on the cover, so it’s not that either of them are pre-Five leaving and therefore more expensive because Five is on both of them. Though, the one on the right does have a picture of Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Ben, and Reginald under where it says that the comic is 50 cents. To make a long rant short, the comics that Vanya looks at in the pawn shop window are confusing. +1
However, Gabriel Ba’s art. -1
The strange lack of technology means that Vanya’s book was written on a typewriter. +1
Vanya needed 6 pencils to write her book with. These are maybe supposed to symbolize Vanya’s 6 siblings, in which case, interesting detail, but still. Six pencils. As opposed to one pencil and a pencil sharpener? Why all the tools Vanya? +1
The six pencils (with two pointer up) symbolize Vanya’s six siblings, two of which turned around since the siblings they are supposed to represent (Five and Ben) are no longer around. -1
Vanya’s dying houseplant. Water that! +1
Vanya collects another houseplant and it looks relatively healthy. -1
The messy table garbage still has the same plate and same crumpled papers/napkins in the same position. Either Vanya was super lazy, or the set designer/director was. +1
Vanya replaced the dying houseplant with the fresh one. Poor houseplant. I will mourn you. +1
“Lost Woman” has some really on the nose lyrics. Playing the phrase “lonely woman” before Vanya starts narrating her book is ridiculously on the nose. +1
However, “Lost Woman” happens to be one of my favorite tracks from the series. -1
Luther should be part ape in this scene, (as it takes place five years ago, not seven), but he looks completely normal. This is a massive continuity error so I’m adding two sins. +2
“Starved for attention” is the line Vanya narrates over Allison reading it. On. The. Nose. +1
Diego is so pissed off at Vanya that he tapes her likeness to a punching bag and punches it. You know, like a rational adult. +1
Klaus is wearing birkenstocks and burgundy capris. +1
Also, Ben and Klaus work together to read a book. -1
But I have to ask, why did the rehab let Klaus read during group therapy. And shush his dead brother’s ghost. +1
Ben is pissed off by the line “and haunted by what might have been.” On the nose. +1
Five reads the harsh line “we all wanted to be loved by a man incapable of giving love” while next to Dolores, who is also incapable of giving love because she is a mannequin. Also, Five reads this book, full of vitriol and hate, as the last connection he has to his siblings, at age thirteen. +2
Reginald doesn’t read the book that his daughter wrote. As usual, Reggie is a dick to Vanya. +1
Vanya’s reaction to being late to rehearsal is so relatable. I swear I have done this a thousand times as a musician. -1
The Netflix captions (yes I watch with captions) say “Chamber music playing”. They have a conductor. +1
The conductor has the character of all conductors. Dick. +1
Vanya isn’t vibrating when the rest of the orchestra is. Late or not, you still need to follow the concertmaster, Vanya. +1
The rainy weather matching Vanya’s stormy mood. Foreshadowing. -1
Badass umbrella title screen. -1
However, why are all those people stopping in the street? It’s raining, get to where you’re going! +1
Allison and Luther watch the tape where Reggie dies over and over. This is weird, even if they are trying to figure out if Grace killed him. Who would want to watch someone die over and over? Not even I want to replay Reggie dying, and I genuinely hate him. +1
Luther says that Reggie thought people were out to get him. On the first watch, the audience can chalk this up to Reggie being a paranoid old man, however on the second watch we know that the Commission exists and that Reggie is probably not from this world. So either of those groups could have been out to get him. But who? This remains a sin until they explain it. +1
Training posters in the kitchen. The kitchen! Really, Reggie. +1
There’s this weird caterpillar thing with a face behind Grace in this scene. What the hell is that? +1
There was also a radio in the kitchen, which implies that Reggie either let them listen to tunes, or had training cassettes the same way he had training records. Either way, what the hell, Reggie? +1
There is a ridiculous amount of light sources in this one room. +1
Grace has a cactus full of toothpicks or skewers by the stove. Cute art project, whichever kid but likely Diego based on his fascination with pointy things. -1
The “your father was a great man” speech. Poor Grace. +1
Jordan Clare Robbins is an excellent actress. -1
Smiley face made of two eggs and a strip of bacon. -1
Diego doesn’t understand the chain of custody regarding evidence. Patch says that if he touches a piece of evidence, she can’t use it in her case. How many murderers have walked free because of Diego? +1
Hazel and Cha Cha use bullets from 1963. Dallas foreshadowing? Remains a sin until season two confirms the Dallas plot. +1
These bullets were found on the random local hires Five killed at Griddy’s. Why does the Commission use bullets from the early 60’s? Isn’t that a big red flag to their time organization? +1
Patch indulges Diego the Vigilante by asking for his help. You’re a police officer, you got this, Patch. Also, this foreshadows her death when she does things his way and gets killed for it.  +1
Diego tells Patch to investigate Five. Oh, the irony. +1
“I do give a shit” is such a weird line to try to portray as romantic with the music, tone, and lighting, show. +1
Beeman, unprofessionally, brings up the fact that Patch and Diego used to date while at a crime scene. +1
Vanya washes her hands for two seconds and then goes to talk to Helen. Almost like that was the real reason why she was in there. +1
Vanya attempts to compliment Helen Cho, who is overall, not interested. Is this Vanya’s repressed way of flirting? Pick a better time.+1
Seriously, what is with Vanya and starting conversations at the absolute worst time. It’s like she wants to get insulted. +1
No way in hell would one professional musician to another be this bitchy, Helen Cho. +1
Helen straight up calls Vanya talentless. What an awful thing to say! +1
She softens, as if she just gave Vanya legitimate career advice, but she didn’t. She really just insulted the time and effort Vanya put into her instrument. As a musician, I can confirm that what Helen just said is the equivalent of saying something really, really nasty. Tumblr hate anons have nothing on what Helen just said. +3
Vanya takes a pill after being called talentless. Pill foreshadowing. -1
Cha Cha uses a curling iron to cauterise the wound Five gave her from the shovel. Where did the curling iron come from? +1
“The entire fate of the universe” oh Hazel. Thanks for the irony. +1
How did no one in the history of this shady motel notice the hidden panel? You would think at least one person attempting to have shower sex or someone cleaning or  someone doing matinence should have noticed that, right? +1
Five stitches up his wound by himself despite the fact that multiple people are in the house that are capable. He’s going to pull a few of those based on the angle. Also, Five didn’t bother to clean the blood off his arm, so who knows if he bothered to sterilize the needle or his hands or anything. +1
The wound on Cha Cha and the wound on Five are eerily similar. However, what makes them interesting is that Cha Cha decided to cauterize where Five decided to stitch. Both are decent methods, but Cha Cha’s way is going to leave severe permanent scarring and Five’s way might heal. This could foreshadow the way they treat the end of the world. Cha Cha wants to end it, Five wants to fix it. Maybe not Cha Cha herself, but she does represent the Commission and their ideals. She is a stickler for their rules and uses her last moments to try to call them and get rescued. Point is. This is an English teacher moment full of symbolism, and I respect the show for this choice. -1
Billy the Choo Choo bandages. First of all, Five can never get away from the childishness of his current form. Second of all, Reggie let Five have “Billy the Choo Choo” licenced bandages??? +1
Or, Five chose to buy/steal these bandages. +1
Five puts a clean, white uniform shirt over blood that he still hasn’t cleaned up. At this point, that has got to be uncomfortably sticky. +1
Five didn’t bother to clean his wound until morning. “I guess I’ll go to sleep and bleed”???+1
Or, it took Five several hours to get the supplies. Bullshit. No way in hell did Reggie not have those supplies lying around. +1
Five still chooses to wear the full uniform ensemble even though he could at the very least get rid of the tie. +1
The teleporting kid gets the fire escape bedroom. It’s like Reggie was begging Five to sneak out of the house. +1
Dumpster Bagel: Do Not Eat. +1
“I’m done funding your drug habit” you never did in the first place? You didn’t pay him at all for that magnificent acting?? Unless Five did this before he left the mansion, in which case, Five funded Klaus’s drug habit. +1
Justin Min looks so incredibly creepy sitting on the dumpster. He has such a blank expression. Also, when did he move from the fire escape? +1
“I love you. Even if you can’t love yourself!” is a great line. -1
When Five drives away in the stolen van, he passes an absolutely bewildered guy. How the hell did Five function as an assassin? He can’t do subtlety. This contradicts “I know how to do everything”. +1
Was Aidan Gallagher actually driving in this scene? Because it kind of looks like the way a beginner would drive. This also contradicts “I know how to do everything” +1
There’s a lady passing Meritech that actually chose to wear a baby pink fedora. M’costume. +1
Five left his wife stuck in a bag and didn’t remember her. +1
He also left a bottle of some clear liquor on top of her. +1
“This is the place that it was made. Or will be made.” The delivery on this line was kinda bad. +1
Allison used her power on Claire. Claire was three years old. No matter which way you slice it, this is the shittiest thing Allison has ever done. She’s working on it, but the fact that it happened deserves a sin. +1
Emmy Raver-Lampman is a kick ass actress. -1
Allison has the most warranted case of impostor syndrome ever. Sin off because this is the one of the few scenes where two characters actually talk about their emotions. -1
Luther and Allison had that conversation sitting ridiculously far apart. +1
Leonard’s shop is called “Imperial Woodwares” Apparently, he delivers as well. How did Leonard get the business and woodworking skills necessary for running a relatively successful shop while in prison? +1
Leonard somehow knows that Vanya’s orchestra (which rehearses and performs in the Icarus Theatre) is far from Bricktown. At this point, he shouldn’t know that unless that is the only orchestra in the entire city. There is no way that that is the only orchestra in the entire city. +1
Leonard took up wood carving in prison. Is that allowed? +1
If a guy you just met makes a wood carving in your likeness you should run. Run like hell. Get a restraining order. That is so creepy. Obvious villain is obvious. +1
Also, I once read a fanfic (The Moon Laughs by Lady_Origami on ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/17959847/chapters/42417584) where a character is kidnaped by Leonard and tortured in this backroom where he’s showing Vanya the creepy statue. I can see where the inspiration came from. This back room has “place to keep the person I kidnaped and torture them” vibes.+1
Leonard stayed up all night to make the creepy woodcarving. He then insists that Vanya take it. And Vanya doesn’t recognize the creepy vibes. +1
And she does take it! +1
Leonard says that he made the carving for her and that she inspired him. Obvious manipulation is obvious.  +1
Leonard is a dick to Vanya by using Allison’s successful career. +1
Leonard doesn’t like the Beatles. +1
Why did Allison go to Bricktown to find Vanya when that is nowhere near the theatre or Vanya’s apartment? Was she just wandering around hoping to find Vanya? +1
Allison is the Queen of actually talking out her thoughts and feelings. She just apologized to Vanya and explained why she was so angry in the last episode. Well done. I respect that. -1
Allison and Vanya sisterly bonding. -1
Five sees children playing and then immediately starts having an apocalypse flashback. This shows that Five lost his childhood as soon as he time traveled to the apocalypse. I’m sad now. +1
Aidan Gallagher plays this really well. -1
If you look closely, you can see Five/Aidan Gallagher laughing at Luther/Tom Hopper because he can’t fit in the van. I can’t tell if Five is laughing at Luther or if Aidan is laughing at Tom. Either way, that slaps. -1
However, corpsing. +1
No one has written Klaus/Dolores fanfic yet. They really hit it off in the van, y’all. +1
Five throws an empty can at Klaus for messing with Dolores. +1
Klaus’s expression after Five says “does it matter, it’s Klaus.” Sinning because Five is a dick to Klaus. +1
“Did I ever tell you about the time I tried to wax my ass with chocolate pudding. It was so painful.” I love this line. God bless Robert Sheehan. -1
Aidan Gallagher contemplates this line then starts corpsing. I don’t blame him. I’ve been trying to figure out how that would be possible too. -1
How can you use chocolate pudding to wax any hair? +1
Aidan Gallagher laughs at this line, meaning Five found this funny, but didn’t want to give Klaus the satisfaction of laughing. +1
Luther and Five are dicks to Klaus. They kicked him out of the van! Assholes. +1
Luther is sort of trying to connect with Five, but he fails miserably because it comes out really condescending. +1
“I don’t think that I’m better than you, Number One. I know I am.” Hubris much, Five? +1
Luther is already sick of Five’s “I’m better than you, I’ve done things you couldn’t comprehend” schtick and Five has only been back for three days. And we make fun of Luther’s moon thing. We get it, Five, you’re a badass. Actions speak louder than words, old man. +1
On the side of the Variety Store Klaus steals from is a billboard for Clever Crisp Cereal, which is the cereal that  Reggie invented in the comics. I guess he did that here too. -1
Also, Klaus steals from the Variety Store and drops everything while running away. Why did you steal so much shit if you knew you were going to drop it all Klaus? +1
Ben’s reaction to this buffoonery must have been hilarious. Sinning the show for not showing us that. +1
“Now I’m starting to wonder if that was the wisest decision.” What? Kicking Klaus out of the van or Klaus deciding to rob the store? Because both were pretty stupid. +1
Does Agnes own Griddy’s? +1
Agnes just gave some valuable baking tips when it comes to doughnuts. Thanks, Agnes. -1
Agnes and Hazel are really cute together. -1
The Hazel and Agnes theme is my favorite instrumental piece from the whole show. -1
There are still bullet holes in the walls. Attention to detail! -1
Hazel and Cha Cha pretend to be social workers or private detectives concerned for Five’s well being. Oh, the irony. +1
“I mean who lets a kid get a tattoo” Reginald Hargreeves. That’s who. +12
Agnes is indignant about Five’s tattoo, citing his age. This whole episode has a ridiculous amount of irony. +1
Agnes draws the umbrella tattoo a bit too perfectly for someone who only saw it once and at the wrong angle. +1
Diego straight up threatens Luther at knifepoint. +1
This family meeting is a complete shitshow. +1
The monocle is likely to become a s2 plotpoint because Diego put it in a place where anyone could take it. If you’ve read the comics, you know why I think that’s important, but I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t. Either way, that was a dumb way to dispose of the monocle, Diego. +1
Diego is a dick to Vanya until she agrees with him. +1
They are legitimately talking about killing their mother. What the fuck. +1
Klaus references the van when only Luther, Five, and presumably Ben know about it. This makes no sense. +1
Votes to kill Mom: Luther, Allison, Ben +3
Klaus hisses at Ben and no one thinks this is weird. +1
Grace definitely heard Luther and Allison voting to kill her. After she made them breakfast too! Luther and Allison are dicks in this scene. (And so is Ben but Grace couldn’t hear him.) +2
Grace tries to prove her worth by making cookies. Fuck Luther, Allison, and Ben for voting to turn her off. +3
Diego and Vanya actually have a civil conversation. Well done for doing the bare minimum, Diego? -1
Vanya’s pills suggest that she was friendlier with Diego at some point. +1
Pogo for sure saw that whole thing and he saw Vanya take the pills. Dr. Complicit. +1
Reginald is a total soccer mom in Diego’s flashback scenes. This amuses me. -1
However, Reginald raised six child soldiers as “crime deterrents” so +6
Luther is casually working out in his bedroom while the mission alarm is going off. +1
“Where’s my knives” was a phrase Diego practiced. Also, Diego would never lose his knives. +1
Vanya’s room is a fucking closet. +1
“Thank you, Mother” Dante Albidone is a treasure. -1
“Boys will be boys” this is the only time that phrase is acceptable. When you’re putting out a fire your son caused for no reason. -1
“You did it! I’m so proud of you!” -1
Reginald interrupts this. +2
Diego’s flashbacks were very unorganized, which makes sense. This is probably several years worth of mission flashbacks. -1
“It’s okay if you hated him” “I would understand if you wanted to hurt him”-2
David Castaneda and Jordan Claire Robbins nailed this scene. Two kick ass actors being incredible. -1
Did Five really sit there all day with no breaks? +1
Five is arguing with Dolores and losing. She is a manifestation of his subconscious. And she is winning this argument. +1
Aidan Gallagher looked directly into the camera. We made eye contact. It was weird. +1
Lance straight up sells those illegal prosthetics where anyone could see it. Lance is an idiot. +1
Agnes’s drawing led Hazel and Cha Cha to the Academy. +1
Cha Cha left the window down in the car. +1
Would that air thing actually work? If it wouldn’t then sin on Reggie for getting cheap locks. If it would, sin on me for not getting better locks sooner. +1
Hazel and Cha Cha don’t have their masks on. What if somebody saw them? +1
The portrait of Five comes back to bite the Academy in the ass. Why haven’t they gotten rid of it? Five has been back for three days. +1
Klaus has black nail polish on his toes. -1
No way in hell is Klaus able to have his eyes open in a soapy bathtub. +1
The ghosts are creepy. Sin because Klaus is traumatized. +1
“We’re Through” by the Hollies is one of my favorite songs to play on guitar. It’s a decent coffee shop piece and I like playing it live. Thank you show, for helping me discover it. -1
Klaus is taking a bath with the door open. +1
Luther has been eating his Wheaties, Cha Cha. If you call experimental ape drugs, Wheaties. +1
Luther describing sunrise on the moon. I like this bit of writing. -1
Where were Hazel and Cha Cha keeping their guns and masks? Special pockets? +1
Diego is the only person who could possibly bring knives to a gun fight and win. Diego is a badass. -1
Hazel and Cha Cha continue to have stormtrooper aim. There are so many times when either could have shot Diego, but magically miss because Diego has plot armor. +1
Reginald’s portrait gets shot though. Right in some lethal areas. This amuses me. -1
Grace is so out of it she doesn’t notice heavy gunfire. Reggie, you suck. +1
“Who the hell are these guys?”/”Who the hell are these people?” +1
Diego, Luther and Allison just saved your ass. Less arguing, more fighting the crazy people. +1
Reggie keeps convenient weapons everywhere like they’re lamps. +1
Vanya is still in the Academy hours after the meeting, and she doesn’t think to hide during all this crazy gunfire and fighting. Sigh. +1
Seriously, it’s like she’s trying to get killed. +1
But she doesn’t because she has plot armor. +1
“Hey, asshole” goes back to Five’s “hey, assholes” from episode one. So did Luther learn that from Five, did Five learn that from Luther, or did Reggie decide that that was an acceptable phrase to teach his children? I lowkey want to write all three in a crackfic. Nice. -1
Vanya probably has a concussion. Otherwise, she would have attempted to run, right? Please tell me she isn’t that stupid. +1
You know that b99 meme where shit is going down and Gina is just chilling with her headphones. Yeah. That. Klaus, get some situational awareness, please. Also, what are these magic noise cancelling headphones that can block out the sound of gunfire and where can I buy them? +1
Allison, I understand why you don’t want to rumor anyone, but your life is literally in danger. I think you can forgive yourself if you rumor Hazel and Cha Cha into not killing you and your family. +1
“You wanna rumor this psycho?” “I don’t need to because this bitch just pissed me off” These are both horrible lines. I can’t tell if it’s because of the writers or because of the actors, but both of these lines are genuinely terrible. +1
“We just want the boy”. Nice comics reference, Cha Cha. -1
Diego doesn’t attempt to fight Cha Cha and give Allison the upper hand. He just sort of stands there. What the hell, Diego? +1
And when he does fight her, he doesn’t use any long range weapons. Diego, this is your house. I’m assuming you know where the knife drawer is? +1
Ben attempts to give Klaus privacy. In this situation. That’s a sin. I would risk seeing my brother’s naked body if it meant he wouldn’t be shot. Just sayin’, Ben. Get all up in his face. Put your ghost hands through his head. Get his attention! +1
Luther and Hazel can go hand to hand as equals and the show never addresses why. +1
Vanya really is that stupid. There are plenty of doors. And the fire escape from Five’s room. Vanya, run!+1
Luther had plenty of time to get out of the way of the chandaller. Why didn’t he shove his siblings and follow one of them? The motion would have made sense. +1
This ape reveal makes no sense. It would have worked in episode one, but it’s weird in episode 3. Why didn’t they reveal this to the audience earlier? +1
The dinosaur footprint sound effect. +1
Why didn’t Vanya and Allison hear Grace humming? Also, why didn’t anyone hear Hazel and Cha Cha breaking in. It was established in episode one that there is no soundproofing. +1
Grace is cross stitching the moon exploding. Foreshadowing. -1
She is pulling the needle through her own hand though. +1
Who gave Grace that nice bracelet? That’s so adorable. -1
Diego killed his own mother. +1
However, it is a mercy kill. Who knows what Luther or Allison would have done to her if they had found out how screwed up Grace was. I’m really conflicted about this scene. On one hand, fridging, on the other, it makes sense. Therefore, it’s a wash. -1
What is this magic cloth that Allison gives Vanya to mop up the blood and where can I get it? Seriously, it cleans up blood ridiculously well. To the point where it doesn’t look like Vanya’s been injured. +1
Diego takes out his anger/sadness/frustration on Vanya. Also, Diego would be excellent at cinema sins. Vanya could have been killed and she was stupid to stay, but there is no reason to raise your voice at her like that, Diego. +1
“She is a liability”. And you are an asshole. Diego just said that line to Allison as if Vanya wasn’t even there. As if she was just some inanimate burden. Fuck Diego for this line. +1
Allison doesn’t even attempt to defend Vanya. Even if Diego made a good point, there is no reason to let him get away with that kind of emotional abuse. +1
The show kind of addresses Luther’s body image issues, but doesn’t let him talk about it. +1
When did Vanya get Leonard’s address? +1
“I didn’t know where else to go”. Home perhaps? To your apartment? And not into the arms of creepy Leonard? +1
Hazel and Cha Cha didn’t discuss what to do if shit went sideways. No wonder Five was better than them. +1
When would Hazel have kidnaped Klaus? We don’t see it happen so we should just assume that Klaus appeared there magically? +1
Hazel and Cha Cha have FRC 891 as a licence plate. Neverending Chaos. Google FRC 891 Umbrella Academy. -1
Overall Review:
I forgot just how important episode three really is. Here we learn just how harmful Vanya’s book was, that Vanya is in an orchestra, and more about Leonard. This episode carves out who Vanya is as a character before Leonard sinks his claws into her. We can see the effects of the pills on her ability to connect with others and her ability to play the violin.
We also get a lot from the other characters. The Claire reveal is a big one for Allison. So is the ape reveal for Luther, even if it should have happened two episodes ago.
As for acting shout outs, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Jordan Claire Robbins killed it in this episode. I can’t wait to see more of Emmy in s2 and I really hope that Jordan will return.
There was some excellent use of irony in this episode. Like a lot of irony. What killed me was the Griddy’s scene. Hazel and Cha Cha pretending to care about Five’s well being so they can murder him and Agnes being indignant about someone as young as Five getting a tattoo is just amazing.
As for plot things, this was really a Vanya-centric episode. It establishes a lot of things about her, which makes the twist at the end even more obvious. This is not my first, second, or even third rewatch, so I know what’s coming, but how did I not see it before? When I first watched it I thought that Five was the main character and that Vanya was a self-insert. Looking back, I can see that Five and Vanya had pretty equal backstory and screen time given to them. You could make the argument that they are the main characters. You could even argue that they’re the primary protagonist and antagonist, but to be frank, that discussion should be saved for episode 10.

THE SLEEPY MEME:
Name: Allison Hargreeves Residence: Umbrella Academy, New York City, Los Angeles, wherever work happens to take her Hours of sleep: She will always say beauty sleep is high key important. As a kid she’d always try to get 8-9 hours, unless she was hanging out during the midnight hours with Klaus or sneaking out to Griddy’s with everyone else. It was one of the only things she was obsessive about to the point of being like Diego or Luther. As a mom though and as an actress, she definitely had to make sacrifices on that front. On her best days she can still nab 6-7 hours, which she has to make do with. Catch her on any other day though and you’re going to get a hella cranky Allison. Type of bed: My girl is a queen hence she has a queen since living on her own.   Amount of blankets:  Two - three. She runs really cold at night. Amount of pillows: Yes. Just.... yes.  Type of clothing: Allison is the kind of extra to own a bunch of bathrobes and stuff but when it comes down to it she is also the kind of gal to just have a bunch of pajama pants with dumb cartoon bananas on it or something. She always sleeps with a shirt or a tank top since she runs cold.   Do they sleep with company?: When she’s married yeah, lol. But she also didn’t mind when Claire would just hop up into her bed with her when she woke up early in the morning and just fell back asleep. It was one of Allison’s favorite times.  Do they sleep with plushies?: If Claire brings one to bed for naptime or mama cuddles Allison isn’t going to kick them out. Do they sleep better with company?: Both yes and no, depending. In a relationship she likes the comfort but she’s also as equally used to sleeping alone. Does it matter where they sleep?: This girl is about as Princess and the Pea as you can get. If it ain’t comfy she ain’t snoozing.  Frequent dreams, nightmares?: She doesn’t really get nightmares. Even the ones she got from what happened to her during her Academy days have faded away. Allison does vividly remember the nightmare she got when Claire got her first fever. That might have been worse than all of the Academy dreams combined.  What do they do if they cannot fall asleep?: Snacks! She will eat sweets and drink some tea or cocoa. Coffee when she was younger, ironically enough.  Deep slumber or naps?: She’s a light sleeper but once she gets started it’s pretty much sheer stubbornness she doesn’t wake up.  When do they wake up?: With such a regimented sleep schedule when she was younger, Allison is used to going to bed early and waking up early too. Maybe 5:30 or 6. Being on film sets definitely helped reinforce that. But she likes sunrises.  When do they sleep?: Usually tries to head to bed around 9 or 10 at the latest.   What could wake them up?: The only one who could wake her up before she’s damn well ready is Claire. Maybe also Grace but that was more out of fear of Reginald’s wrath than actually wanting to get up.

Atlas: Touch (Five Hargreeves x Reader) (The Umbrella Academy)
A/N: HEEEYYY GUYS!!! So this is based off of a request I got today, and something I personally wanted to write. (The whole Five comforting the reader thing) The title + kinda sad nature of it all is based on Atlas: Touch by Sleeping At Last. I feel like this may be kind of a mess, but it’s honestly because today was just such a bad day. SOOOO ANYWAY, THIS IS GONNA BE A TWO PARTER!!!! YAYAYAY!!!  Also, it’s a little shorter than what I normally write because of that...Soooo just be aware of that...now ENJOY!
Summary: Five comforts the reader after having a vision she really wished hadn’t seen...(Reader can see the future)
Warnings: References to murder, killing, blood, language, implied panic attack, a really terrible childhood, angst, cliffhanger (that will be resolved in part 2) FLUFF!
Word Count: 2,381
Tumblr media
The wind is harsh and brisk, passing straight through your body as it eradicates any sense of warmth you once felt. A chill rolls down your spine, and a feeling of uneasiness fills your gut. The area around you was barren of life, save a large, vibrantly colored sycamore tree far off in the distance. Its presence made no sense, since there was no other sort of growth in the area.
It was almost dream like. You look up at the lightless night sky. Not a single star was shining. The moon was nowhere to be seen. It was dark, ominous, and strangely malevolent in sensation.
“Where the hell am I?” You ask yourself.
Then, you see a familiar shape lying under the tree.
“Five?” You call out as you begin to make your way over to him.
No answer.
“Five?” Your voice echoes back to you.
No answer again. You squint, trying to get a better look at Five. He wasn’t in his Academy uniform. He was wearing a Bowie shirt, with a flannel over it, and dark blue jeans. You walk a bit closer, and you start to see more.
In the center of his chest, you notice something dark, something staining through his shirt. In the center appears to be some sort of a hole.
Then, it hits you.
The dark stain was blood, and the hole must have been where a bullet entered Five’s chest.
Five had been shot, and you weren’t there to stop it. You were too late.
“NO!” You cry out.
You break out into a sprint, rushing over to him as fast as you possibly could. “Five!” You scream as you come closer to the great big tree. Suddenly, crows burst into flight from the branches of the tree, their shrilling squawks shaking you up a bit.
Finally, you approach Five. You kneel down by his side. Tears well up in your eyes. “F-Five?” You croak, swallowing harshly. You grab his shoulders. “F-Five, p-please. Stay with me, please!”
No answer.
You extend your index and middle finger underneath the right end of Five’s jawline, searching for a pulse. “P-please, p-please s-stay with m-me,” You stutter. You refuse to move your fingers, even though you feel absolutely nothing.
You shut your eyes tightly, and tears begin to stream down your cheeks at free will. You collapse in Five’s lap, sobbing heavily. You chant incoherently, “Wake up, wake up, wake up.” But he doesn’t. He can’t
He’s gone.
The crows that had left seconds ago return again, circling around the tree, cackling their cacophonous cries, telling the gods above that they had correctly predicted yet another death.
Then, there’s nothing by darkness. “Five!” You scream as you open your eyes, pushing yourself up in your bed. Light fills the room, but you can’t fight the overwhelming darkness you feel deep down inside.
Rain patters loudly against the window next to you as a tear slides down your cheek. You take a deep breath, but it feels like the air that once filled your room was sucked out by some sort of vacuum. The walls feel as though they are closing in. Your heart beats rapidly in your chest.
What the hell just happened? You ask yourself.
Your visions had been growing worse lately, but that specific one had taken you by surprise. Your visions never showed how something would truly happen, but they would give you some sort of intimation as to what would come to pass. Five and the rest of the Hargreeves swore to help you learn to use and control your abilities the minute they met you. They promised that with their help, you could dive deeper, and figure out more about your premonitions.
It was hard, of course, when you couldn’t stand to experience whatever it was you saw. All your life, you couldn’t stand your power. Most of your visions came on without warning, and depicted terrible, horrendous things. Worst of all, you were unable to control who’s future you saw.
Yes, being able to see the future could be a blessing at times. But, more often than not, you felt as though it was a burden. You had grown up in foster care, which had only added to your stress as a child. Not only did you deal with a power you couldn’t control, but you had no one to depend on. Your outbursts due to your premonitions caused you to move around quite a bit. Every foster parent you had deemed you “impossible,” which ruined your chances at becoming adopted. Kids bullied you from group home to group home, and you struggled to stay stable. One fateful day, when you finally felt as though you had enough, you ran away.
You planned to move to New York, and pursue music, the one thing that helped you throughout your life.
You stopped for some coffee at Griddy’s on your way out of town, and that was when you met Five. The minute he sat down next to you, you had a premonition: Five would temporarily lose his powers, causing him to be captured and tortured by The Commission.
It was often obvious to those around you when you had your premonitions, since you essentially travel to a dream world in some distant stream of you consciousness. Five immediately knew that something was wrong.
“I’m sorry, but are you alright?” He asked. You decided to take a chance on Five, and explain to him what it was you saw. There was something about him that told you he was just like you; he was a dysfuctional outcast, who simply wanted to be loved.
By the end of your conversation with Five, about what you had foreseen, as well as your powers, Five decided it would be best for you to come back to the Academy with him.
You had nowhere to go, no one to take you in. Somehow, running off with some seventeen year old boy who could move through time became your best bet.
Over the course of the last few months, you and that very same seventeen year old boy had created an unbreakable bond. Your childhood made you feel unlovable, and Five made you feel the exact opposite. Five cared about you. He was usually sarcastic and nonchalant with people. But with you, he was kind, and sweet. He made you feel like things were going to be okay, or possibly even better than okay.
Maybe things could be…good, just for once, You thought to yourself.
Most importantly, Five was the first person to ever say those eight words to you:
“I hate most people, but I love you.”
You hadn’t expected him to feel anything for you. Your whole life you felt worthless, and unwanted. But Five wanted you. He saw how incredibly special and important you were.
“I love you too,” You said back.
It was abundantly clear that you couldn’t lose Five. Not now. Not after everything you had told him, not after all of the late nights that you two had stayed up talking. You had built a relationship with him, and it was the first relationship that had ever truly mattered to you.
Suddenly, a knock at the door brings you back to reality. You look in the mirror across the room, revealing your puffy, tear filled eyes and red, soaked cheeks. You swallow harshly, frantically reaching over to the tissue box on your nightstand.
“(Y/N)?” Five calls, knocking again. “Are you okay?” You can’t speak. Everything hurts far too much. You look over to the door, and watch as the knob twists, and the door creaks open.
Five’s crystal blue eyes meet yours. He studies your face, instantly recognizes how disheveled and destroyed you look. You break down again, simply at the sight of him. You sob heavily. “I-I d-don’t kn-know what t-to d-do F-…” You choke on your words. Five rushes over to you, wrapping his arms tightly around your shivering body.
“What happened?” Five questions softly. “Did someone hurt you?” His tone immediately changes at the thought that someone did this to you. “I swear to God I’ll fucking kill whoever did this.”
“N-no o-one h-hurt m-me,” You stutter. “I-I c-can’t t-take th-this a-anymore Five, I can’t d-do this sh-shit anymore,” You say in between sobs. “I can’t fucking do this.”
Five furrows his brows, and presses a soft kiss to the side of your head. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” He whispers. “Shuuuush, it’s okay, I’m right here.” Five’s voice is soft and low. He holds you tighter, rocking you lightly back and forth. “I’ve got you now.”
You press your face into Five’s chest, sobbing heavily. You couldn’t breathe. “I-It’s n-not o-okay,” You struggled to say. Five pulls you in even tighter. “I-I saw something, F-Five. F-fuck, I-I c-can’t lose you.”
Five’s fingers gently come through your hair. “You aren’t going to lose me,” Five coos. But his words cut like a knife. Truth was, you knew you were going to. Everything felt so overwhelming. It felt like a family of elephants had sat on your chest, and your respiratory system could no longer function because of it. The walls of your room continue to close in on you and Five.
You pull apart from Five for a second, trying to catch your breath. “E-everything is too much. I c-can’t h-hande my p-powers anymore,” You cry out. “I can’t j-just be happy, for once? Things can’t just stay good, for once in my life?” You’re screaming now. “Of course all of this was too good to be true. I don’t deserve any of this! I’m nothing, and no one. I’m worthless shit!” More tears stream down your cheeks.
Pain and confusion spread across Five’s face. He inches closer to you, wrapping his arms around you yet again. You bury your face in his neck. “You are enough, (Y/N). You are more than enough. Everything anyone has ever lead you to believe about who you are, and what you’re worth, is absolute bullshit,” Five coos, his hands rubbing gently against your back. “I love you, and I’m not going anywhere.”
“Y-you d-don’t know that. I’m going to lose you, Five,” You sob.
“Tell me what happened,” Five whispers. “Where did all of this come from?” He asks.
You swallow harshly, preparing yourself to explain to Five what you had seen. “I-I h-had a premonition,” You pause, attempting to collect your thoughts. “Y-you, w-well y-you…” You trail off, pulling away from Five. You study his face, his piercing blue eyes, his chocolate brown hair. A single tear falls from your eye and rolls down your jawline “Y-you d-died. Y-you’re g-going t-to…” You can’t go on. Five pulls you in again.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Five says, his fingers combing through your hair again. “You aren’t going to lose me. It was just a vision. For all we know, it’ll remain a vision. It might not turn into anything more.”
You sniffle. “I know what I saw. Five, s-someone i-is g-going to sh-shoot y-you.”
Five stops playing with you hair, and he has no response. Silence looms over the room. Unfortunately, your visions were more ‘accurate’ if they showed a specific cause of death, and the bullet wound in Five’s chest was a clear and specific cause of death.
“Wh-what a-are we going t-to do?” You ask, pulling away from Five. For once in his life, Five is at a loss for words. He always had some sort of response for everything. He always had some sort of answer. Sometimes, it came off as cocky, or smug, but regardless, he always knew what to do. He always had a plan.
This time, however, was different. This could very well be the end of everything.
Five swallows harshly, his ocean eyes searching yours as if it was the last time he would ever be able to see you. “I-I d-don’t know,” Five says, standing up. He begins to pace back and forth. “Do you know who k-killed me?” Five asks.
“N-no, but you were under a sycamore tree. I don’t know what was so important about that, but that was…well, that was where I f-found y-you,” You explain.
Five shakes his head. “Maybe it’s The Handler, or The Commission,” Five begins to pace faster, his steps becoming more rushed and frantic. “Are you sure it was a bullet wound? Maybe Vanya somehow escaped again? Maybe it was her?”
You simply shake your head, unable to give Five a real answer. It’s impossible for you to form coherent thoughts or sentences at a time like this. Whoever killed Five could be anyone, or anything. Maybe Vanya did escape, and maybe she found a gun. Maybe The Handler caught Five messing with time again, or found something new to blame him for. Nevertheless, everything was happening so quickly. All hell was breaking loose.
“Is there anything else you noticed about what you saw, anything that could help us?” Five questions. He stops pacing, and sits back down on the bed next to you.
“Wh-when I f-found y-you, i-it was night,” You explain, sniffling a bit. You remember what he was wearing when you found him. “You had on a Bowie shirt, and a flannel, and jeans.”
Five scratches the back of his neck anxiously. “That’s what I was going to wear today. I had the day planned for us. I was hoping you’d want to go see a showing of The Man Who Fell to Earth at that old theater downtown…” Five trials off.
Tears continue to stream down your cheeks. “Th-then t-today i-is…” You don’t have the strength to finish your sentence.
“Not if we don’t go out. Maybe we can cheat death,” Five’s eyes light up with hope.
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try.”
To Be Continued…
